Did the change bug me? Kind of. However, I have to stop and think, why the hell would they promote something that is not happening in any of the regions they cover? It doesn't matter if it's cool to see/know about, or if somebody is planning to visit Japan at some point. The fact is, there's no point in advertising something that isn't in your coverage regions.

Aye, but the new version doesn't advertise anything different or more culturally relevant. The Japanese version would only have meaning to a niche audience, sure. People like myself who might be travelling soon or anyone using an online resource (such as this forum) to follow events surrounding the series in Japan. The American version takes this away but doesn't add anything. There's no event going on to do with that bridge, let alone anything One Piece themed. Nothing at all is gained from the change. It's wasted effort, and the kind of americanisation that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
-
For a magazine that provides me tons of content on a weekly basis, 99¢(not one of a kind, I'm aware, but in scope yes) it's gonna take a hell of a lot more than that, to bug me. Sorry, it's just not a big deal.
-
Of course, no one's saying this one little thing ruins the whole magazine or anything like that. It's still good content and value and it's not as if I'm unsubscribing over it. But the good parts of the magazine don't make the bad ones immune to criticism. We should be able to tall about missteps like these when they happen.
-
Whether the cover is promoting an event or not, Tokyo Tower is still a landmark (much like the Golden Gate Bridge). They already removed all the text so there's no reference to the theme park anyway. It can't just be Luffy hanging off Tokyo Tower? Those of us who know about the theme park will get the reference, the people who don't will just see Luffy hanging of a landmark (much like he is right now).
There really wasn't any reason to change the cover.
-
If we're taking zolo/zoro changes than yes, I can see why someone might be a little peeved, because the actual content within the story is being altered slightly. But this is the front cover, something that's altered all the time, with the removal of characters from series we don't even receive in our version of jump, and I don't see anyone crying foul to that. When they start removing entire manga panels/ changing storylines, come back to me and cry foul
-

You know why no one cries foul about that? because there's a reason. You stated it yourself.
zolo/zoro changes
There's a logistical reason for that.

So, One Piece finally arrived to México, it only took them 17(?)years lol.
But realased 2 volumes in a row, like two weeks of difference I think, I soo much hope they try to keep it up until they reach a decent quantity not to far from the actual 77 volumes out there.
So, Just out of curiosity, Is there any editorial out there doing better than VIZ when it comes to release the newest volumes the earliest as possible??
-
im almost 50% sure VIZ is the only company that translated sfx
so every other language one piece is translated to: indonesian, french, german etc, has volumes released much much quickeredit: I was wrong, here are examples of volumes in other languages, with sfx translated. I think the languages are Bahasa Indonesia (indonesian) and korean? could be wrong.

If you check instagram, these were published way before VIZ volumes were releasedIf we're talking newest volumes, the German/Spanish/French volume 74 comes out the same month as the English one. And volume 75 seems to be a similar case.

In Italy volume 74 was released in February and volume 75 will be out in June.
And yes, we have sfx translated. -

FYI, Barnes & Noble, or at least the one I visit, seems to have Vol. 74 in stock early again.

I always wondered. Do you know why B/N and some book retailers have books on sale prior to their actual release date?
-
Stores run the risk of being fined for breaking street dates, but I guess whoever's in charge of moving stock at my particular store just doesn't see a big deal for a mid-weight manga release. Not the first time that particular Barnes & Noble's done this; back during the five-volumes-a-month speed up they had the final set of volumes out at least a week early too.
On the volume itself, I was quite surprised to see one of Senor Pink's groupies begging him to "make love" to her. There's sneaking crap past the radar, then there's smashing it outright.
-
Went to my BnN and they had the new One Piece volume. Also had the new Food Wars! and AssClass. Pretty stoked to have OP this early. Might pick up Soma tomorrow. Letting AssClass ship from Amazon because I have it on there for $4.99.
And by the way guys, Barnes and Noble has a 15% off coupon for the weekend.
Thanks for the heads up, Crossy.
-
What if the owner of BnN is a huge One Piece fan and realase the volumes on purpose?? Come on Viz, get the message we're dying to spend our money on the newest volumes!!
-
Man I'm jealous of you guys. Viz's local distributor in my part of the world has its release dates a month behind the American ones for some reason. There's a comic shop in my city that imports volumes themselves, but they can arrive anything from a couple of days to a couple of weeks after the official release.
And on the 'make love to me senor' line, I believe that was in the WSJ release as well. It's an interesting choice, but I think it fits the shtick Pink and his groupies have going.

Victoria chiming in. Only one store gets it in & I'm pretty sure that's only because of the amount of pre-orders. I'm happy to be clutching 74 in my hands now.
Dymocks the chain-bookstore does seem to get it in but nowhere near release date & it's a crapshoot guessing if one will carry it or not.

I don't own that volume but man, that is odd. I can only imagine that it's an individual printing error.

I keep telling people when they reach Raftel Oda will chuck in the biggest Lost reference (because he somehow knows Greg is in love with that show)
The strawhats will leave the island and then nami will be like "LUFFY, we have to go back!"or the island will just keep moving around…
mark my words

Nope. In the digital edition there is no such hole

According to Alexis Kirsch, "It's a printer error that affects a small number of books."

How should I know that it was a printing error in the first place? There are lettering/touch up art "mistakes" in digital editions as well.

Does anyone know why Viz doesn't include the Usopp pirate gallery in some volumes?
Im not sure exactly how many are missing the fan art section but I know my copy of vol. 70 doesn't have 6 pages of fan art that were initially included in the japanese volume. -

It's pretty safe to assume but hey, excuse me if I sounded rude or anything of that sort.

Im not sure exactly how many are missing the fan art section but I know my copy of vol. 70 doesn't have 6 pages of fan art that were initially included in the japanese volume.Viz replaced the japanese fanart, atleast in earlier volumes, with fanart from western fans and probably skipped that section completely in later volumes.
Why? I guess it's because it's a less important section of the volume and they'd rather have their own audience involved. Not quite sure. You could try asking Alexis Kirsch or the Shonen Jump-team on Twitter. -

alright will do -
It stilil bugs me that Viz insists on obscuring the cover artwork with their obnoxiously large numbering. They stopped this practice with latter series, instead mimicking the number system of the Japanese volumes. The New World would've been the perfect time to switch…I guess I understand their desire for consistency, but I feel like people would adapt, quite readily to the change. I wish they could just make the number smaller. As it stands, the entire bottom right corner is often obscured. Sometimes characters can be completely covered up. In the upcoming volume 75, it seems Law will be completely underneath the number. It's very annoying.
-
I see where you're coming from. Artwork being covered isn't the most ideal situation. Though it doesn't bother me as much as other things. As for volume 75, I think only a small part of Law will be covered.

here's a list of mistakes I've pointed out on twitter. They can be found in volumes 35-45. (depending on which edition of the volumes you have)

Nice work. Hopefully Kirsch got those in time.
-
I hope we get a special edition release of the series someday down the line with the corrections. Not re-buying or exchanging just for corrected errors.
Another one…I forget which volume. The SBS Where Oda attributes certain nationalities to each Straw Hat. There's an error which states Brook would be Australian rather than Austrian.

No box set 3 this year? The last two were announced in March. :s

Fuck were they announced in march?
I was holding out to get box set 3. Really hope they plan on releasing one this Nov. Hope there's an announcement/plans on releasing it nov 2015 if not I'ma just buy the volumes seperately :\ Was hoping to get a cool poster/special chapter ;o -
Looks like Viz went a little crazy with the blue for Volume 75 vs [the Japanese release
c](http://i0.wp.com/static.zerochan.net/One.Piece%3A.Two.Years.Later.full.1769712.jpg)an't even see the names and outlines at the bottom of the cover
-
I remember quite a bit of slight color difference happening back in the beginning. Like the covers would be either lighter or darker. Biggest one that comes to mind is volume 18. But in this one its like they didn't take notice of the spectrum of blue from bottom to top. That, or they oversaturated the spectrum.
-
It's not Viz but I just bought color walks 3-6 from an online store. Everything on the package box and writing was in Japanese. They included this nifty oragami fish with 'Thank you for your order' written on it. Makes me want to order something else from them someday.

Yellow Note on Amazon Marketplace.
I almost want to buy the data books but I just can't read Japanese. The Color Walks can be enjoyed without needing to read. -
For the most part, I don't have a huge issue with Viz's release tweaking the background colours for the covers or how they've been doing the numbering (people exaggerate the size of those numbers by a lot, seriously), but I have to wonder what the thinking is behind the arc/saga notations above the titles and bannered on the spines.
For the most part it's a great idea - chunking the series into distinct storylines makes its length less intimidating and doing it by saga makes more sense than working with individual arcs, since some of those don't even fill a volume. Problem is this, early on they brand volumes based on what saga the last chapter in it belongs to. Volume 32 contains 8 chapters of Skypiea and 2 of Water Seven, so it's labelled Water Seven, even though it contains the climax and conclusion of Skypiea. My former partner was reading through my Viz set with no prior knowledge of the series and got pretty confused when she reached the end of the 'last' Skypiea volume and the story was still going. Volume 50 is another 8/2 split that's been done the same way. If it weren't for the 'New World' label (more on this in a minute) we'd probably have the same issue with volume 66, which is 7/3 Fishman Island and Pirate Alliance.
And after doing saga by saga for East Blue/Baroque Works/Skypiea/Water Seven/Thriller Bark suddenly the Paramount War saga is cut into three arcs (Sabaody/Impel Down/Paramount War). Which is also confusing because obviously those three parts run together as a larger storyline. None of those arcs stand alone, so why brand them separately? Then the opposite problem - the Fishman Island and Pirate Alliance sagas are labelled together as New World. Fishman Island's pretty distinct in terms of content and themes from Pirate Alliance, so once again, why?
As I said above, I really like what they tried to do here, I just wish they'd been more consistent about it and rounded the labels up or down instead of running arbitrarily on what the last chapter is.
In my mind, it should be-
East Blue v1 - v11
Baroque Works v12 - v23
Skypiea v24 - v32
Water Seven v33 - v45
Thriller Bark v46 - v50
Paramount War v51 - v60
Fishman Island v61 - v66
Pirate Alliance v67 - presentFeel free to ignore my opinions here. This is all minor stuff that has no impact on the actual content of the books and I'm being absolutely neurotic about it.
