Smash is currently on my mind, but I will start the game this weekend!

Probably Dumb Question: do you have to beat the Elite 4 to connect to X and Y?

You can do it after helping Wally get his ralts.

That's…..looks at Hoenn map Petalburg. So before Rustboro.
Sweet, I can get my Igglybuff egg.
Haven't fired it up yet, but I got the game after work earlier in the evening. First time I've had to stand in line for a game, heh. I believe my team's going to be something like this: Swampert, Aggron, Claydol, Salamence, Ninetails, and Magnezone. No longer needing a dedicated Flyer really frees up a slot, though I do intend to use Pidgeot/Mega Pidgeot in some capacity since I've always had a soft spot for it.
@Vegard:
The mountains do however tend to force the player to use Strength, Rock Smash and Rock Climb a lot. Like, I'm actually playing Platinum these days, and this is the first game where I've seen fit to actually have a HM-slave in my party at all times.
Yeah, that sucks too, actually. They finally fixed the requisite HMs thing in BW, and kept it mostly optional for bonus areas in BW2 and XY. Have to have an HM slave, or divying up the moves to every mon or your team has always sucked. (Though surf itself has never been an issue since its basically the best water move in the game.)
It works a little bit as resource management when going through the final challenge cave of victory road as a test to make sure you have all that you need (and maybe deny you a useful poke) but its pretty lame to have to force it onto your team like that.
It's a legit complaint, that stems from a game deigned over a decade ago.
Never played the originals when they came out, so I'm really excited to be getting one of them tomorrow!
I'm gonna use the same team I used in my original ruby with the exception of Groudon(though I'll try to use him at least a little so that he doesn't get the same treatment I give to Yvetal lol) but I'll still use a ground type to have Groudon at least be a little represented on my team.
I'll let you guys chose, the only requirement is that he must be from the Hoenn pokedex.
I don't even remember the team i used. As for the poké, use Numel.
Remember to register your new game id to PGL guys. Also, for the tourneys should we make a new thread? I'm guessing the first one will be all teams of six Mega Salamence.

If it wasn't in your original team, Flygon, Exploud, or Mightyena

I always hoped that the HM moves would one day just completely go away with the Pokemon actually doing what they are supposed to do. You know, catch a reasonably big/strong water Pokemon and just let it be able to swim without surf? You don't even have to fuck around with the map layout because of parts that you aren't supposed to reach early, isn't there usually some sort of mechanism which makes that impossible, like needing the fifth badge in order to be able to use swim, fly, strength? And the more you advance the game, the less it becomes a problem, if you have, let's say, a lvl 10 pidgey at the start, it wouldn't be a problem that it can't carry you at first, since fly won't be unlocked with, let's say, level 40 or the fourth badge or whatever, at that point it's a Pidgeot anyway so you won't necessarily feel like you are waiting for something. I mean, gamefreak is already doing that, planning what you can do at what point so the whole thing progresses naturally, it would be the same more or less, instead of having to waste a character and/or attack slot. There are critters like dodrio who can't do what their typing is implying, but that shouldn't be the reason for not getting rid of something I genuinely believe nobody likes?
I think a good fix for HMs would just be unlocking a list of "commands" you can give Pokemon in your party. Like say!
Open menu>Commands> (List of Commands)
-Surf (or Swim if "Surf" remains a regular move)
-Fly (or Flight
-ect
(Selection one) > Basically shows who's ABLE and UNABLE in your party like you do when you a teaching a move
And along with that, you also have the option to hotkey commands and/or bringing back the "follow" feature to simply talk to the pokemon that can use a command.
As for the HMs themselves… The only issue I see if deciding if they all are learned naturally, get rid of them completely(like Cut or Rock Climb being sort of useless for normal moves), or change the properties so they can be more or less useful (like Strength being a fighting move with maybe lower base power, ect ).
So anyone have any secret base qr codes to share yet?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
My first Secret base QR code by the way
Wait, wait, wait, wait. So the secret base guy just told me i can have "Pals" that work and keep around my base and gave me a proclamation where i can set the rules and my "pals" have to follow my rules in my base?
Is…is Game Freak making the jump to full on Slavery now?
Wait a sec…
SONOVA…
Just beat Roxanne. So far I've been having fun and everything's mostly familiar, but the DexNav is a super nifty feature, and it's prompting me to catch Pokemon I normally wouldn't really bother with much (just caught a Focus Punch Shroomish, for example). Though, Fire Fang Poochyena slaughters everything but Wingull until you reach Rustboro. I find that I have to keep reminding myself that this isn't a Megami Tensei game so I can't pass these moves down to other Pokemon, hehheh.
Current team is Mudkip (13), Poochyena (9), Zigzagoon (8), Ralts (9), Surskit (7), and Taillow (8). Predictably Mudkip had to do almost all the work in the Rustboro Gym.

Dang, I just got bodied by a Lass's Rollout-spamming Marill.
Call me crazy but I'm gonna start breeding a few pokemon from Y to throw into Ruby…..

I don't care what type you make it, but Rock Smash should be super effective against Rock types, dammit.

Isn't rock smash a fighting type move and therefore super effective against rock types?
Are the only ways to transfer Pokemon between X/Y and Ruby/Sapphire
a) PokeBank
b) having 2 systems and trading?

Ummmm yes
Pokebank is somewhat convenient though you can't evolve trade this way and you have to pay an annual fee to use it.

I guess you mean inconvenient :D Shame there's no way I'm gonna get myself a second system.
So the GTS are closed off to the game then? That would've been nice…

You coud always get a friend or someone online to trade for you.

Closed off to all games prior to gen 6 yes.

You could also try and set up very specific trade requests from X/Y and hope that no one takes them away while you switch your cartridge.

So the GTS is gen 6 - meaning I could set up a request there on Y and accept it on Sapphire?
Wow, they really remodeled Mauville.
I'm so jealous of you guys, we're only getting the game on the 28th here in Europe… I'm getting it shipped on the day of release but that's still 6 days from now. By then you'll all have beaten the elite 4
So the GTS is gen 6 - meaning I could set up a request there on Y and accept it on Sapphire?
Yep, that should be working, as long as you don't try to trade stuff that has been introduced in ORAS. At least in theory, don't know how exactly the restrictions work, if you have to reach a certain badge to be able to trade with X/Y or if you're only able to trade Pokémon that are in the ORAS dex and so on.
I'm glad the Pokebank allows for such an easy transfer (though I did yell at it for saying I had to have the Pokedex first in Sapphire before bringing over Pokemon that weren't even identifiable in the Hoenn dex). Made it easy to pick out my team from my bred Pokemon which look very pretty in the game. There weren't any problems with moving or using the X/Y Pokemon either except for having lots of ???s in their information.
Now I just have to pay attention to when I beat Gyms or else they'll stop listening to me.

You can trade with Y & X after the getting the Pokedex.

Not when it only has 40 attack, and the majority of rock mons have a secondary typing. Grass and water are 4x effective against the majority of rock mons (and get stab on most things). I guess against the couple rock/steel types its extra effective.
It is literally one of the weakest fight moves in the game (aside from moves that hit multiple times )
"Rock smash" just always felt like a move that should just… utterly destroy rock types, and it really doesn't. Like it should have a built in status effect of "does extra damage to rock types". Which a couple moves do now with multityping or effects.
Hell, it used to be only 20 attack for the longest time, utterly worthless.

And Sturdy, but I see what you mean.
Hmmm. Rock Smash.
Has the same effect of Super Fang vs Rock Types.
Damn, half of my team is weak to Fire. Waifu Fire Leader was kinda hard.
This game sure likes to reveal character ages.
Birch is 35. Mr. Stone is 52 and his first name is Joseph. Mr. Briney is 72. And Wally is 10.
Sableye gets Quash guys. Run to the hills.

Um, no, don't do that. You want to set up the trades from OR/AS and accept them on X/Y, so if someone does take your trade you only lose a level 3 Taillow instead of your Yveltal or whatever. And if someone does 'steal' that trade you get an extra Yveltal anyway.
Ummmm yes

soooooooo glad my bf is staying with me now with his copy of sapphire
I traded my baby shiny near-perfect gabite idiot child onto my team and I adore him!!!
Got the Stone Badge! and loving everything so far.
My team right now is Treecko, Tallow, Ralts, Igglybuff, and Vulpix (last two were due to Y and Pokemon Bank). Interestingly enough, only Tallow turned out to be male.

Yeah I was thinking along those lines :P
Me: "Heh. Winona will be easy"
Meet her Altaria.
Me: "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-"
A friend was bragging to me that even if i have had the game before he was already at the final showdown with archie. Then i saw him get swept four times by mega sharpedo :p
Man, Mauville City is barely recognizable. I guess they needed a place to put all the staple features introduced since gen 3.
At Aqua Hideout and still only 4 Pokemon in my Team. Don't know what will interest me enough to fill the last two slots.
Locking me out of catching an Aron until after I get to Mauville and have the Mach Bike isn't cool, Game Freak. (at least I got a decent Abra though in the one part of Granite Cave they do allow you visit your first time through)
Got the first badge and am on my way to to face Brawly. Here is my team
Grovyle lvl 17
Slakoth "Bruce"lvl 16
Tailow "Sally" lvl 16
Surskit lvl 15
Poochyena "Jack" lvl 15
I'm really enjoying Omega Ruby so far I had to have played Emerald over 10 times in the past so I'm loving the small tweaks especially the DexNav.
Only got to play Ruby about an hour all weekend
Tomorrow night and Tuesday I'll probably dump 15 hours into it :ninja:
