8 player smash would probably be way easier to play if you go to stuff like conventions and don't just stick to established friends as well
Super Smash Bros

I go to a community college, I run into like 16 loser nerds like me who have Smash.
-
Even the godawful SNES and N64 versions of Bowser's Castle?
You think the N64 Bowser's Castle is bad? Your opinions are invalid forever.
I can't believe people aren't more excited about 8 players! Just because its local? Anyone you know with a 3DS will be able to play. I'm certain everyone can find at least 4 others by researching the smash scene in their area.
Controllers are not the limitation. Having enough people that I actually want to invite into my home simultaneously, and who are all able to when I'm not busy, is.

Back when I was in school and I knew that type of people, I still would not have actually invited them to my house ever.
-
My social community was nerdy enough that Smash was a regular occurrence. 8 Player Smash would have been a cinch.
-
8 Player smash will at best be a party thing, perhaps around the Thanksgiving time as the best way to shut up in-laws or that aunt who cannot stop talking about how great Billy is.
-
At best it might not be too bad to do the thing from that cheesy amiibo commercial where four people battle in team ups with their amiibos.
-
does anyone else have the voice of the guy who did the smash facts in their head? I can't do something without thinking about how he'd comment… although it makes boring things all the more intrestring
"CLOSE TABS" "GRAB A REFRESHING PEPSI" "PAT THE CUTE PUPPY"
maybe I'm just really weird
-
I wish Xander Mobus would narrate my life in real time. He's just that amazing.
-
The 8-player is far from useless for me even if it's local only. I have at least 3 friends with a Wii or WiiU, so it shouldn't be hard to gather 8 controllers and play that crazy mode. I could always buy the GC adapter and look in my old stuff for the 4 GC controllers I should still have.
Plus, playing 1 vs 7 lvl.9 CPU should be a fun challenge. -
See I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who has 7 friends I can play with. In my house alone there is 4 so 5-player smash will be common I reckon.
-
Got my brother, might convince my family to do a few matches for the novelity, honesty, I'm cool with cpus.
-
You think the N64 Bowser's Castle is bad?
At the time when I played Mario Kart 64 no….after playing the track again in Mario Kart Wii.....yeah
-
So 8-player Smash is local only? Well that's most unfortunate…
-
I mean all things considered, when they're recommending an outdated, not even sold anymore device for the best possible chance at lagless gameplay, there's probably no way that 8 players would be anything but lagless
Still, that's more of a problem with the design more than anything else

Yes.

Greninja has a point.

Oh man I FINALLY beat Classic on 9.0!!! My heart was pounding like a mofo, lol. <3 defense setup.
-
With the latest in Wii U technology coming out, I can't wait to make a For Fun setup where people are just capitalist pigs and hoard coins
-
so far we can confirm:
what stages will be available for 8 player smash (could be more). More choices are available in Omega Form.
….oh man 8 players on regular Yoshi's Island.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Another new stage, it seems swimming makes a return after all for the Wii U version!
…I dunno, I have a strong suspicion these little minor things (item frequency, coin battles, this, etc.) could be patched in the 3DS version at some point?
-
So the stage select in your screenshot here shows at least two more stages than the one posted earlier taken from the My Music menu. But what really confuses me is that the My Music one shows all the stages staggered and not lining up nicely, despite still having 6 stages per row, whereas in this one they line up beautifully. I wonder what that means.

There's evil afoot.
-
Neither is the full stage set?
-
Who knows, but I would be disappointed if there were only 2 hidden stages.
-
What I find pretty weird is how brawlish the stage screen is, and how it doesn't have the next pages for custom, or old stages. I'd rather all in one page, but if you take half of the screen for the preview, you shouldn't do that.
It could be that custom is ALSO dissabled for 8vs.
-
Well we know of 4 secret stages so far: PAC-land, Pokemon stadium 2, Kongo jungle 64 and smashville. I'm fairly confident there is more like magicant maybe or a wind waker or game & watch level
-
It will be revealed that all previous stages from previous games will be included.
Plus stages from future games.

I hate final bosses like this who just come out of nowhere.

Woo! Second challenge panel completed, and only 9 challenges left on the third panel!
…although I did technically cheat and use hammers for the others involving collecting all custom items and smash run powers. The Custom Specials are one thing, since you can just look up a character and see, but the game doesn't tell you what custom items/smash run powers you're missing. Coupled with that and the repeating item rewards, it might be too much of a hassle.
But stuff like 1000 kos, 50 hours of smash, or All Star with everyone….yeah, I can deal with those.

Will the Wii U version have those things to do?

Thanks to the direct and a Gamexplain analysis video, here's a list of known challenges so far:
-Create a Mii fighter in custom
-Get 50 or more trophies
-Clearing 100-man Smash in 3 minutes
-Clear a 3 minute smash after getting 60 KOs
-Have the game for more than 10 hours
-Score at least 150,000 points in a single game of Target Blast stage 1
-Get a chain of 50 or more on Trophy Rush as Wii Fit Trainer solo
-Get a max combo or 30 or more in trainingso….the jury's out on that one. A single panel has 140 (definitely gonna be more) challenges, and of course CDs, stages, and trophies will factor in as rewards as usual.

And will you try to get they all again?
-
I'm guessing that if you do them 2 players (or use your amiibos) you can cut the grinding time in half. At least for All Stars and Clasic.
-
And will you try to get they all again?
Me? I gave up on Brawl's challenges and yet I'm almost done (albeit with some help) with the 3DS's challenges. There's bound to be a lot more in the Wii U version, and naturally there will be some tedious and/or really difficult ones.
Worth a try, though. At least now you can brag on Miiverse!

Its missing Jiglypuff, yo.

Is Jigglypuff a boy or a girl
-
@Purple:

It can be either. I wouldnt really use any Pokemon, since theyre all "its" in the grand scheme of things….
-
Smash Wiki uses terms like "it" to refer to the Pokemon as they are basically animals, and both Genders can be caught in the games themselves.
The fact that Pikachu's alt hats are all either Gender Neutral, or takeoffs of the Male trainer hats from the Pokemon games, and all of Jigglypuff's are either Gender Neutral, feminine, or takeoffs from the Female trainer hats leads me to believe we're supposed to perceive the Pikachu and Jigglypuff in Smash as Male and Female respectively.
While we're at it, Mewtwo, in the games, is officially Genderless, tho in all media, English or Japanese in which Mewtwo is voiced including the Japanese version of SSBM, it is voiced by a man. So, same deal. They might be reinforcing that they consider Mewtwo "Male".
-
Call me old-fashioned, but ever since I was a kid, I've always regarded smash Pikachu and Mewtwo as male and smash Jigglypuff as female.
actually, isn't smash Ivysaur female?
-
Smash Pikachu is definitely a male because of the actual gender differences that came about, but yeah the basic point is that while they're reinforcing the idea of the genders…
-
The pokemon have sort of 'intended' genders, but I still like to think of them as being either. If you really wanted to go deep, we know that Pikachu's gender can be identified by its tail, so the one in Smash is definitely a dude, but Pikachu first joined Smash before any pokemon were given gender differences, so you could argue that they were sticking with the rat's iconic look.
-
Jigglypuff is actually a Ditto.
-
Are we sure that we're not actually looking at Jigglypuff from the wrong angle and that it's actually a voltorb/pokeball/electrode?
-
Aren't all spheres really just Jigglypuff seen from above?
-
The odds are in favor of smash's Jiggs being female. We don't know about Squirtle, Greninja or Charizard, Ivysaur has the seed, so it's a girl, Mewtwo and Lucario have male voices, and even if pikachu was "unidentificable" in the first two, brawl came after gen 4, and this:

Well, actually…
The latest movie Mewtwo was featured on (which is the one where it mega-evolves into Mega Mewtwo Y) actually had the Pokemon voiced by a woman.... a very feminine sounding one, at that.
I actually wonder what voice they're gonna use for Mewtwo in this game.

Interesting. Tho, that's clearly playing heavily against the trend.
