I dunno whether anybody else is as hyped for this as I am!! I freaking loved the manga!! Just wanted to share for any other fans!
Parasyte - Anime begins October 2014!!
-
-
Who the hell are these people.
-
This anime, while classic, had the bad fortune of being released after Tokyo Ghoul and alongside Psycho Pass S2.
-
Woah that looks awful as fuck, what need do they have to change the characters design?
-
I will not be able to get used to his hand being on the right. I read the flipped Mixxzine version with "Lefty" dammit!
Still SO damn weird that they ran this thing side by side with Sailor Moon and Magic Knights Rayearth. Talk about tonal whiplash.
-
Mixxzine
You are an old man. My older cousin had some of those that he'd let me read or just look at. Totally forgot about that until now
-
-
Ah, good 'ol Body horror, now airing on your television. If i can stomach it, I will watch.
I wonder if it will be following the manga precisely. -
Pros: Madhouse doing typical Madhouse stuff again insteads of bad LN.
Undecided: Character designs, Aya Hirano as Lefty (wut).
Cons: Hard competition in the season it airs.Hopefully it succeeds.
-
Completely changing characters.
Miggy as a girl. With Hirano Aya voice.
What the actual fuck, animators.
-
What is this shit? I think I'll just stick with the movie and hope for the best.
-
Exactly. What is the point of gender swapping a character. It does not make any sense. Or did they desperately wanted to shove aya hirano in there. The designs are already kinda meh and now this.
-
Judging by current responses, I'm going to take a guess and say that nobody else is as hyped as Kanji_XIII for this.
-
I'm pretty sure Aya exists in this show for marketing purposes. After all, they want to turn Migi into a loveable mascot with that loli-Lucky Star voice that can be sold in stores. Not to mention all the pop songs Migi will burst out singing for the OP, dance routines, and heck all the inevitable doujinshi and…no seriously what the hell?
Honestly I wouldn't know what voice would work well with Migi, but it certainly wasn't Aya Hirano
PS: If it weren't for Migi attached to his hand, I wouldn't even have recognized the protagonist.
-
I am guessing, that after the "fusion" with Miggy's cells, the protagonist will look wild and aggressive, giving it a more "incredibly changed character" figure from the bookworm four-eyes, accomplishing a larger contrast from the events in the original manga.
I get it.But still, it was unnecessary.
And I'm not even touching the Hirano Miggy, what the hell.
-

"This is too old, therefore in need of updates"

Seems like the animation will be having that as well anyway?
Why the sudden interest in this series by more main stream media, now? Thought this has been out and finished quite a while ago?
-
@LUFFYSMC:

Apparently someone remembered the series and thought it would make a good live-action adaptation. The anime is basically an advertisement for the films, like the Kaiji animations were.
-
"This is too old, therefore in need of updates"
Yeah well, "updating" is like Yamato 2013.
Not turning the captain into Konata and all the female crews into kogals.
-
Yeah, Yamato understandably had some plot points and narrative that i see why could be considered dated for current audiences. Now i don't see any problem with Parasyte, seems they're just changing for the sake of it, because it's 'old".
I just hope the story won't suffer too much. -

This was my mot hyped thing for the fall season, probably more hyped than Reconguista and GBF 2, but now I have been put in extreme caution mode.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
There's nothing to be updated about Parasyte, except maybe an odd indication or two (like a CRT TV or something) that it was set in the 90s.
-
Ermahgerd! I'm so stoked for this!
-
And Aya Hrano voicing Migi doesn't mean it's gonna be a "girl" or have any change of character, right?
-
What the hell.
He was supposed to represent how humanity can be far more frightening than grotesque monsters.
It was done superbly in the original. But no, they had to change him to a very generic crazy man without even an ounce of creepiness of the original.Le Sigh.
-
In lieu of the character design changes….who is he again?
-
Uragami, the psychopath.
He was the representation of real evil, unlike the parasytes which were nothing but creatures following rational animal instinct.
He's kind of a Hannibal Lecter of the story. A convict who knows true vileness, and his knowledge and skills were used by the authority. His personality is somewhat like Hannibal, as in he's "enlightened" in a way - just enlightenment of the devil. So naturally he gave the creeps in the original manga.
But the anime one looks like a generic, stupid, drug addict side character. :( -
Wait…this guy?
!
Yeah, looks like they got his presentation completely wrong. Yeah he had some goofy faces once in a while, but the intensity is supposed to be in his eyes. Not…his goofy "I'm a typical psycho killer" look. I thought the comic made this point perfectly clear about his "eyes". But whatever, we got Aya Hirano as Migi. So clearly the studio got their priorities straight.
-
So that serial killer is gonna be a typical over the top anime psycho who makes stupid faces, making him unintentionally funny instead of creepy?
Can they throw us one bit of reassuring news? Just one bit?
-
To be fair, he does have a handful of funny moments during some parts of the story since he is far from being strictly a "serious character" in spite of his motif. But…he doesn't make faces like that at all. Well, maybe a few times in a flashback, but not at all in the main story (to my recollection) and they don't look NEARLY as exaggerated as that.
Sigh...and if they're going with THAT pic to represent him...then yeah, I have very little faith in this serie.
-
Finally something that instills some confidence
Parasytes themselves are looking absolutely fantastic! A bit of hype has been restored. -
So…what's the verdict folks? First episode supposedly aired yesterday.....I haven't had chance to look for it yet.....anyone watched and have any critiques?
-
Haven't watched it myself yet, but so far the feedback is super positive.^^

It's awesome, violence and gore not censored, the voices work great for their characters, really nice animation and the few changes to the anime compared to the manga are fine as well. At least my POV.

Awesome news!! I'm pleased it's turned out well!! Now I'm really looking forward to watching it!!
-
Wow, I have finally watched it and it was fantastic. Madhouse did an outstanding job with the animation, characters and their voices fit everybody perfectly so far. And man that soundtrack is super awesome and gets you pumped.^^ The best first episode out of all fall anime so far, at least for me.

Yeah! Just watched it as well! Much more satisfying than Terraformars…......mad how some studios know how to tame violence without having to black it out.....whilst others just have no clue! haha
-
I am not sure what to think of the adaption so far. I reread the manga recently and while I can understand the new designs, the rearranging and the OST baffle me a lot. The OP and ED are horrible do not fit either and I got annoyed by the CGI as well. I wait until I judge the adaption, but it sures takes a while for me to get used to this.
Not to mention the completely unneeded change of the time the story plays in…
-
You shut your mouth, the opening is fantastic. :)
-
Sorry, I am not 14 anymore so bad and unfitting screamo/metalcore is not to my liking. Is it so hard to just get a creepy opening like Monster had for such a show?
-
Didn't like the opening that much. But the episode was suuuuuuper. I've read Parasyte only a few months ago so I don't mind watching something slightly different. And it's Madhouse Kyaaaaah!
-
Disgusting opening song, MC is too much of a pussy compared to the start of the manga where he was just a normal teenager, wubstep, Aya hirano voicing Migi, and butchered character designs. Apart from that it was enjoyable.
-
I thought the episode was great, the character designs in the anime look better than in the manga tbh, Murano in the manga looks like she is 30 years old, and the rest of the women are ugly.
-
Aside from the OP/ED and dubstep, a well as the boob grab, which I assume was their way of substituting the PENIS ARM scene, everything was great.
-
As someone who hasn't read the manga, I liked the pilot episode enough to anticipate the next. Certainly one of the more interesting anime servings this fall season.
-

If there is no penis arm I will riot. I waited years for that scene.
-

Come on dude.
They are getting away with a lot of things, but asking for a giant uncensored non-baby penis in a TV anime is too much. That shit wouldn't fly even before the age of crazy censorship, much less now.
-
Haven't read the manga so I imagine I might enjoy the anime a tad more than some people. I found the first episode to be interesting enough so I'll definite continue watching. I do like the character designs quite a lot as well.
-
Genitalia has to be censored by law, therefore even if they would put it into the anime it probably would be pixelated. What is your obsession with seing a dick in the anime adaptation anyway? It's not like it is all that important, right?^^
-
. What is your obsession with seing a dick in the anime adaptation anyway? It's not like it is all that important, right?^^
Because it's hilariously outlandish.
-

To quote Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: "The dick is extremely important".
I would be fine with a censored scene as well, or if it just on the BD. But I need it.
