I know you joke the majority of the time and it's possible you missed the bottom few lines due to a case of TLDR but you do browse a lot and that one post was posted over and over and the line in question was very long and rather hard to miss. So I don't find it very believable you haven't read it before.
Nah by the time I joined the bet I definitely missed the original post and just ended up reading the summarized list to see what other people are guessing. Think about when the bet was made, which would be right after the big news that it was coming back, and the flood of people going in and posting about it or seeing people throw out guesses.
To be honest, I knew of the actual "wager" part of it only after the manga started back up but didn't bring it up because nobody else was bringing it up.
I declare that list invalid anyway :P cause despite placing a guess(among when it first started up proof: http://forums.arlongpark.net/showthread.php?t=34380&page=426 it's the last post can't quite from closed threads) I'm not on it.

As interesting as this discussion has been I see you all are missing the whole point.
People being wrong about their low guesses is a great thing. Not because of some silly bet or honor system where they'll have to change their avatar if wrong, but because it means Togashi has exceeded their expectations and are getting more HunterxHunter than they thought possible before. You all are worried about who was right and who was wrong and who's being honorable or not to their claim but how does this affect the manga chapters? It doesn't and frankly because of that I don't see why anyone cares.
This is why I never commented on the bet. Not because I knew how few or many HunterxHunter chapters we might be getting but because I saw the whole thing as pointless. It's supposed to be just for fun? Yes, I see.
People should be pleased we're getting great quality HunterxHunter chapters again and not so worked up over the integrity of an internet bet. Personally speaking if (for some strange reason) I did join the bet I would not have pulled out, but if anyone else besides Robby pulled out would it have caused such a commotion? The problem is he won't even admit he's chickening out at all. That and that he went as far as to say I was doing some illegal rigging thing when he is the one doing the cheating. The problem is not that I want him to pay whatever bet.
It's not even a problem other than maybe some choice in strong words in argument. It's an internet guessing game, so who cares if he admits it or wants to pull out of the pool after learning about assistants.

Well obviously we'd all be thrilled if Togashi kept his pace up to Sander's unreasonable for Togashi usually amount. And I don't think that for the most part that we particularly care about the condition of the bet to changing our avatars, but I think you'd be pretty mistaken to believe that most people, especially with the influx of posts at the time were aware of the conditions of the bet, which makes it even less that they'd be apt to follow with it.
Now the real game begins. Considering how good the manga looks now compared to previous chapters, when will we see some classic togashi scribbles again? Or are those days finally behind us for good?^^

Are you talking about the Makino avatar? Which I wore for like 2 months? And whenever one of her matches comes up since?
The gag there was Makino was supposed to lose, and I was going to play the fop and "lose" and switch it out thatsame day once Kizaru had a commanding lead, and then after being a staunch Kizaru supporter, THEN I was going to switch to Makino. (That we had the poll positions reversed at the start of the match is proof that we had planned from the very start to switch on the match we assumed Kizaru would dominate in?) And then it turned out a way the staff NEVER expected. (The poll reversal was supposed to put Makino in the lead, not Kizaru.) I had the makino avatar done in advance, I showed it to lots of people.
Then everyone went and put Makino in the lead, so the planned joke went backwards. The joke was SUPPOSED to be on me, but her suprising win made it act different. This has been explained a ton of times. Then when the next match came along, I changed it appropriately, and bore that avatar for months, as promised.
I also wore the April Fools "I can't tell Oda apart from fanart" sig for weeks.
And lets not even get into "Bedfart", that damn thing lasted for a year.
And I'll change my avatar base don any random ol' theme day the forum has, be it Naruto Halloween or Togashi Day or ponies or DBZ April Fools or whatever the hell else. I'm fine with changing up my stuff.

Hisoka's like Netero in that he wants to kill actual sentient things and not just random nature, so while the ants aren't as bad as those horrors, at least they could tell when their lives were completely screwed

Nanika seemed pretty self-aware and she is supposedly Ai, so maybe they aren't devoid of sentience. Plus, other than them we have that Magical Beast race which should be pretty strong and likely lots of formidable sentient creatures dwell on the continent.
Regardless, like you said, lots of dudes who Hisoka would like to play with are on board so Hisoka is bound to turn up… as long as he turns on the news for once so that he can even know it's happening.

It has to be in the next episode, it can't be after that because if they have him show up at the end and then don't do it until next week it probably would mess up the flow and it wouldn't be as amazing. Plus it probably wouldn't be at the end.

Well, I just finished watching it and it was okay.
This one was definitely better than the first one, at least from what I could tell with my limited knowledge of the japanese language.
It still wasn't very good, though, and the animation looked pretty funky in some scenes. It kind of looked like CG, but not at the same time.

Yeah a big problem is that for a series with established foundations and everything, I think a lot of times it's difficult for studios to write good "filler", and then when you draw it to its extreme of "good filler in only maximum 2 hours", well… you gotta set your expectations kinda pretty low. Even for the artists and writers of the original stuff themselves, it can be a daunting task to setup an antagonist only to deftly hand them the finishing blow pretty much soon after.
