Ultimately theres no way he generated those flames via friction. If that was the case then his Elephant Gatling would have been set ablaze as well seeing as how his fists were moving far faster than Red Hawk(you couldn't even see his hands and he wasn't even using G2) while in a bubble filled with oxygen which for obvious reasons would be far easier to accomplish than underwater(which isn't even possible).

Actually it was a lighter if I recall correctly. But I still believe the reason for her Salamander technique was Haki. The reason being because Sanji another Busoshoku Haki user used to have to spin in order to set himself on fire. Now after his training he no longer needs to spin or use friction which indicates that with further mastery certain characters no longer need to kick-start their flames with a match or friction. The way they used their Busoshoku Haki suggests that it must have some affinity towards flames because when you look at when they set themselves on fire they themselves don't feel a thing yet anyone else gets burned from the flames.

Alright. I had forgotten that he mentioned that some people fail to bring it out. That still is no indication that Pearl is incapable of utilizing it seeing as how he's clearly doing something that only other Busoshoku Haki users have been shown doing. Oda portrayed it as a mysterious ability he learned in the wild. Thats clearly an allusion to Haki.

Then again from what we can tell: with proper training anybody can utilize the ability. Though Rayleigh hints that if they have "doubt" that will somehow hinder their ability to awaken their Haki.

She held the match in one had and the other thing in other (canćt remember the english word). A trace of sparks was left behind the match.

But yeah, the way her hair was burning undamaged is obviously Haki related.

He definitely coats his arm with Busoshoku, but you're right in that it's never implied to be the cause of the fire itself. His arm just…happens to ignite. It's weird. He's never used it since FI, either.

What evidence was that? I'm not questioning your argument, I'm actually curious to know what that evidence is.

But the thing is, characters bursting into flames for literally no reason is half of Sanji's shtick. None of half of what these guys do make any sense, it's a shounen manga. While most of the stuff (like Luffy's gears) does have an explanation in-story, and I do think it's possible that haki can be the explanation, I don't think it's concrete unless Oda says it is.

Which is exactly why there must be some explanation for it. Luffy wasn't capable of using flames before he learned Haki. So obviously theres a connection there. Theres no way that it's a mere coincidence.

Not entirely true, but even so that doesn't suggest that theres no logic to this at all. No Author of a shounen battle manga would create techniques that work without any explanation whatsoever.

He certainly didn't mention people's limbs turning Black from Haki and whatnot. So it's fairly obvious that theres a lot he didn't mention. At least from what we saw.

Yes One Piece is in fact a pretty Toony series so logic doesn't apply 100% of the time but the same could be said about the rest of fiction. This doesn't mean that we can't use logic at all. After all these mangaka base most of their logic on the world we live in. So theres nothing wrong with using real world logic in cases where it makes sense.

• Busoshoku Haki "Enshin" (Extending) - Increases the range of the user's physical striking/slashing/stabbing attacks without any physical contact with the target.
• Busoshoku Haki "Shahei" (Shielding) - Protects the user with an invisible field. This is the same technique used by the Boa sisters when they were fighting Luffy, as well as used by the marine admirals in order to block against Whitebeard's DF attack from reaching the HQ.

So what do you guys think? This is all just speculation so I don't know if these two techniques have names (or will even get named eventually) or not.

Actually, aren't those two the same? We've seen that the "shielding" can also be used offensively, like when Rayleigh used it to knockdown the giant elephant , when he was teaching Luffy about Haki.

If memory serves right, he explained that CoA was like wearing an invisible armor that could shrug off enemy attacks, and, if strong enough, could be used offensively, and he then knocked down the big elephant without touching him. In other words, if it can be done with your bare hands, then, logically, it can be done with swords and other weapons, since CoA can be imbued in weapons as well.

Yea it was more of a bounce/ricochet effect too when that happened. Also when the other Boa sister reflected Luffy's attack too. Seems slightly different than just a basic blocking effect.

True, but the standard reaction to that is, "Rayleigh never explained about Hardening in that first lesson either!" Which… yeah, he didn't. Plus there was a year and a half of lessons that we never saw. I won't ascribe "burning attacks" as a Haki power, but that's because I think it would be a cheat by this point. Instead I'll say that there are probably Haki tricks we haven't seen yet, as well as weirdly powerful pseudo-supernatural martial arts that we're only just begun to see.

I agree with josephes's idea but the thing with the flames that everyone is talking about May not have a straightforward answer cause the pearl guy( forgot the name) used it waaaay back in the manga and I don't think someone that weak could even dream of haki or any special training stuff …. , it probably was just a lighter and only the shields were on fire, sanji's was also introduced way back when haki was still a mystery ( at least to sanji) and oda even stated that while the fire burns hot sanji burns hotter and we can clearly see the toll it takes on sanji's leg so we can assume his willpower is just too strong to feel the burn. Zoro's could be explained with friction ( the sword isn't hurt by fire),I formyself can't remember kinemon PRODUCING fire and that's the thing we're debating on and not because he can control the fire( he just cuts through it) and daruma's technique could be explained via simple biology, those kind of fish have extremely hard skin akin to their hard teeth so only cause we didn't see him catch fire doesn't mean he used some sort of special technique.the WB captain that light his sword on fire also could have only used a dial or anything else. Now to the confusing part namely boa marigold,luffy and sanji( after timeskip). A debate could be made for the connection of these powers with haki but exactly HOT it's connected is still a mystery for me, there are lots of theory's but I haven't found a hard and foolproof theory that supports these ideas but the only reference that we can use as far as I remember are luffy -red hawk, sanji-fire technique and boa marigold salamander.
And I believe that rokushiki was made by some marine( we haven't seen a pirate utilize it till now) that couldn't learn haki so he decided to make the next closest thing namely rokushiki. It also explains why someone as weak as cobi( pre TS) could use soru but only videAdmirals and higher ups can use haki and maybe we can figure out some of Haki's future extensions ( like enshin or whatever it'll be called) .

I doubt anyone else in the SH crew will have CoC and tbh I'd say that's absolutely the way to go.

It's meant to be this mythical ability that only 1 in a million people have, yet we're seeing quite a lot of second tier characters turning out to have the ability (Doffy, Chinjao, Ace). Added to the fact that we've yet to see anything of the crews of both Kaido and Big Mom (who will almost certainly possess CoC) I feel like the ability itself is being overused.

Also, Zoro and Sanji have already been assigned their Haki specialties (CoA and CoO respectively), tbh there isn't really any need for either of them to possess CoC in the first place.

In terms of Zoro and Monet, CoC is meant to be, like Redx said, intimidation through spirit/willpower.

In Zoro's case, he intimidated her by cutting her in half and showing that he could have killed her effortlessly. That particular incident isn't relevant to CoC potential.

It may not be the biggest cut, but when the context of the situation is applied, it makes sense.

She was sure that Zoro wasn't going to slash her, that he would never attack a woman.

She thought she had Zoro figured out, and that after dealing with Tashigi, she could try and find some way to deal with him, confident in the idea that he wouldn't harm a woman.

Yeah but it was really reminiscent of the scene when Kaku stopped his attack because of Zoro's willpower manifestation.
Even Arlong started to fear Zoro's look when he was on the verge of death.
I just feel that Monet's fear was far from being rationnal and can only be explained by Zoro's willpower
But I might be completely wrong.

There was no fear on his part, at all.

I don't think either of them, or the Monet example, has anything to do with spirit/willpower.

Monet - Goes from safe to about to die instantaneously and freezes.

Kaku - Sees something he doesn't understand and stops attacking for a few seconds.

Arlong - Surprised by Zoro's incredible will to live, and lack of fear even on the edge of death.

In the next page, Arlong seems to be convinced that something really bad will happen in the future if he doesn't kill him immediately. He recognized Zoro as a threat when he was already done for. Of course he wasn't scared like a little girl, just saying that he saw something in Zoro that Luffy and Sanji don't have.

As for Kaku vs Zoro, I'm pretty sure Kaku said something among the line of :"can he really create illusion with willpower ?!"
So I think Post-TS Zoro can easily prevent an already scared opponent from moving only with willpower. Again, it's just a theory and I'm not a big fan of Azura to begin with.

Arlong realised that Zoro was an exceptional person who might be a threat to him if allowed to live.
Tbh, I'd say Luffy and Sanji have both shown similar endurance and willingness to live/lack of fear of death just like Zoro in this example.

I personally don't think that whatever Asura was is necessarily indicative of Zoro later being able to develop the ability to freeze opponents with intimdation along the lines of CoC. That's just me though.

We still don't really know what the hell Asura actually was lol.
