I was all about this series up until the timeskip. I thought it had nothing but potential and now I find myself bored to tears while reading…
Hopefully it comes back around and I'm forced to withdraw this statement cuz there aren't enough good manga these days.
Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
-
-
On the bright side, with no weekly manga to do, I have my first week of not having a single weekly project to do in like 5 years. Also now I have time to get the rest of the movie done, hopefully. It's really slow going because I have only the audio and the novelization to go on for figuring out the lines, rather than the closed captions from the anime or the text in the manga.
There are no words to describe my immense gratitude.

Golden Week is almost over… I need my Toriko fix.

Same here. After the timeskip i had the feel that the series has changed o.O. it's like shima has focused more on characters. I liked the first 2 chapters after the timeskip. After that it went down. Enemies aren't interesting right now, because the captue lv are low as hell. Way lower than i thought. I mean, the chapter before the TS, toriko was like at least able to take down C-LV 500. Then he spent 1, 5 years in the GW, so i expect him to be at least able to take down C-LV's of 800. It feels weird that they face such lame asses.

What do you people expect? CLVL 800+? They only just barely progressed beyond the outskirts of Gourmet World so of course they haven't run into anything freakishly strong yet.

Yeah that's the point. It's like starting from the beginning again. He was already in the GW and smashed some big beasts, at least i hope so, now he goes again and starts over.
-
Yeah that's the point. It's like starting from the beginning again. He was already in the GW and smashed some big beasts, at least i hope so, now he goes again and starts over.
There are 3 key difference though.
1. We only saw him enter and leave the first time.
2. He took the easiest route; this time he's taking the toughest.
3. Last time he would frequently settle down in "safe zones."
Toriko is pretty fast paced compared to other shonen, give it 10 chapters an we'll be seeing 600+ beasts. I can almost guarantee you that much. This is necessary setup though because we, the readers need a proper introduction to the Gourmet World. Can't just jump into the thick of it.
-
He just rushed to Komatsu as fast as he can I think. Then started gathering foods. He was like a worm or something as you would say. He wasn't there to conquer regions and acquire the ultimate ingredient -that is Akasha's course. It's plausible I would say the things they are now. Now he is moving as a threat to everything and makes it clear very much. This time it is Toriko multiple four times by the way.
I'm just upset about how Toriko's monster dodged that ero-sennin-nitro's wake-up call strike. He is portrayed as a little further than other 4HK too. He is the main character he might, or should, end up a nose-breadth ahead of them but I think it shouldn't be because of the things that is off-screened.
And Shima is trying to keep things out of one dimensional lineer kind of setting I would say. Yes it will be like that when they are 5k+ but while climbing the top it should be not only strength wise.
Ans it would be good to remember that we have spent 200 chapters to only overcome 100lvl strength limit. We don't know it's really easy to go from say 500 to 800.
We don't know how a creature fair against with a gap of captur level, say 50 or 70. Part 1 wise it's on a whole other league. I don't if it's safe to think with ratios. As in if 80 lvl can desolate 50 lvl when we get to see a 500 lvl beast treated the same we shouldn't just think his enemy supposed to be 800. It might turn out to be like that and for the series sake it should, but downplaying it overly kills the suspense. As in FFS TORIKO GO IN GIVE IT ALL AND FIGHT 1500beasts.

A new lovely chapter.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Page 3 defintely remind me of JoJo!
-
Fun chapter all around. Glad to see the frog came back (sort of)
Those tonyudo still look creepy as hell -
So based on this chapter, Coco is now the weakest.
-

Yeah never mind that he defeated Grinpatch who is stronger than Tommyrod.
-
I should'nt be surprised at this point but…did they just chop up and eat the fully sentient Old Man Head capable of clearly comprehensible speech?
-
its intelligence is likely just an illusion
-
Toriko: Mario Kart Edition featuring Frog.
-
The frog is awesome.
Don't really like Toriko just scaring away level 600's just like that, but the scene itself was hardcorely badass. In a good way. Been a while since an intimidation scene was that good.
Eating grandpas is creepy.
The frog is awesome. Again.
-
So we know now Toriko's limit. Seems the year and half he spent in Gourmet World really paid off. And Ultimate Routine gets more clearer.
The third page is a work of art, the amount of detail Mitsutoshi puts in his drawings is simply marvelous.
And the frog? Most awesome beast to date.

Idk man. He said level 500-600 beasts are fodder to his intimidation now. Who knows what his upperlimits are. :x
-
yeah that was pretty good, kinda bleachy chapter with not much happening and stretching content, but oh boy what content that was, especially the spread was fuckin' metal
I also mentioned this once, but kinda funny how there being other sentient beasts isn't even a big deal. Thought the Nitro are the only ones, but nope, giant monk wheel heads
edit: also why did Sani yell memory
edit 2: I also love how Toriko described the preshot routine, "I just showed them an image that was sorta real" even he can't exlplain that crap, lol -
I'm even more interested by the fact Zebra didn't give a shit the whole time. I can't wait to see what he's capable of now.
-
The Frog is so classy with his FrogMobile and sunglasses.
@The:

Well we already know Air is sentient, so…something like that was expected.
Also didn't they just take the tears and fog(??) ? -
Oh man, that panel with the frog driving to them in his Geromobile. Unless Soma can somehow beat that, we have the best WSJ panel of the month right there.

yeah that panel was great

That frog just became my favourite character in the series. That panel was hilarious!

Great page.
And yep, the frog continues to be awesome.

@Vigilant:
I know this ain't the argument but this still doesn't change the fact that the big entrance into the Gourmet World, something that the readers were waiting for for years, kinda lost alot of it's spark because of the reasons you stated above, even if those were "safe zones".
I will say the series has bee better then a long time before the timeskip and am glad this wasn't the actual frog from before….I hope.It wasn't, Toriko already confirmed that in the previous chapter.

I'm really liking these latest chapters. Also, i wish to one day be so awesome as to drive a car with my face on it. That frog is awesome.
-
Beautiful intimidation spread! And I'm loving that frog car.
-
"Good for you, Komatsu"
Ahahahah.
Shit, Toriko is quickly becoming one of my favorites again.
-
Well, not everything was an illusion. Those leeches were real and so too were probably those poison monsters.
1 question. How did Komatsu cook in that humongous pot!? Did you see the size if that thing? Compare it to the snake and it's unbelievable.
-
Yeah never mind that he defeated Grinpatch who is stronger than Tommyrod.
Before the time skip, we all know Toriko was the weakest, but things change.
-
Was it really stated that Grin was stronger than Tommy?
Honest question. I don't remember that.
-
So based on this chapter, Coco is now the weakest.
I've always thought of CoCo as the strongest, even now, simply because his power is extremely broken. All of his tough fights so far have been against opponents that are conveniently very resistant to poison. If they aren't they get off screened like livebearer.
Now I guess they will make it so everyone in Gourmet world is able to immediately produce a resistance to CoCO's poisons, in order to tone down his ability.
-
Before the time skip, we all know Toriko was the weakest, but things change.
What? Starjun would have mauled Coco or Sunny. Toriko was not the weakest pre-ts. He's been steadily pulling ahead since he learned the Ultimate Routine.
Was it really stated that Grin was stronger than Tommy?
Honest question. I don't remember that.
It wasn't stated but it was implied. When Toriko met him during the BB Corn arc Toriko said that Grinpatch was only just playing with him even though he was serious. That same Toriko went on to give Tommyrod the fight of his life in the Ice Hell arc.
-
that intimidation was amazing but… they just ate an old man's head? Gross
-
Coco is the poisonous type. Meaning in nature they are like little insects or some weird plant stuff.
Going by the theme it's pretty normal for him to give that Vibe but one little special-touch you're in big trouble.
I mean Toriko's nature might be best suited for intimidation stuff but Coco's low-lewel threshold might be deadly given the example above. Enemies having no idea approaching a weak-prey then BAM…
-

Yeah, but then that same Tommyrod went on to almost kill a post food immersion, "planet eating hair demon thingie" (¿?¿?¿?) fully awekened Sunny in a really really close call for the hairy king. I'd say it's safe to assume the Sunny that fought Tommy is many many times stronger than Ice Hell era Toriko, considering these guys get tenfold stronger after every arc, even without training.
So I feel like it's hard to judge who's the stronget vice chef. . .except for thy blandness Starjun, aka "vice-chef-but-actually-number-2-in-terms-of-strength".
-
also Toriko lost his fight against him anyway, remember that if it wasn't for Teppei a one-armed with three holes in his body Tommy would've killed him. As soon as the rings came of the whole thing became a charade
edit: also let's be fair here, how well would Grin have fared against sunny anyway. That fucking hair is ridiculously dangerous -
I've really been impressed with the artwork in this manga lately. That spread in the last chapter was amazing, also the face Toriko made right before releasing his intimidation. I also really enjoyed how the wheel demons were illustrated using pointillism, don't think I've heard anyone else mention that particular touch. It really gives them an ethereal feel.
And of course the frogmobile. That was just awesome, lol.
-
This one's page 3 with the panel in which Midora looks like Dream from Sandman are my favorites face-wise.
-
Nice to see intimidation again. I've sorely missed it. Oh, and the frog is back too but he can't speak human talk this time. I was just waiting for him to say something comprehensible after all those geros.

There were only 2 Gero's, the rest of the Gero's came from the frogmobile. He'll probably talk in the next chapter.

Really? I thought he was the one where all those speech bubbles were originating from.
But I don't particularly understand the explanations for the speech bubbles between the initial and final "gero" so that could be the case. -
Any spoiler yet ?
-
How about the whole chapter: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/244189/toriko_ch277_by_hi-wa-mata-noboru
! Barack Obama is in Toriko now.
-
Freaking Obama is everywhere!
-
So many new places to see now…. im psyched by the horse king, eight kings, ancient civilizations. .. gah!!! Im kinda happy that toriko is going back to its old ways of crazy adventure.
But I still want to see what happened to the bishokukais. -
And a magnificient chapter in here too.
A bit bummed the frog won't be this arc's villains, but he's nice and funny enough.
Exposition heavy chapter during the second half, with the usual over the over the even more over the top hyping, wanking exposition on villains and hazards (a single footstep from a single beast left thousands of years ago gives off an aura strong enough to make the four kings shit themselves. . .), but this is Toriko, so we should expect this.
And it seems next week, even more New World adventuring's coming.
Everythings well at the Toriko world.
