Nice basic spoiler, but now for the big questions:
! How much does Nakiri granddad strip?

Read the 7 chapters available online for Iron Wok Jan and I'm liking it a lot :) Anyone know where I could read the 25 volumes for the series?
Huh, didn't realise no-one had ever bothered scanning it. Guess that's why I get mostly blank looks whenever I mention it online. It was a pretty niche series - ComicsOne did the first half then disappeared and dodged their creditors, then it miraculously got picked up by Dr Master, who finished it off and very shortly afterwards…disappeared(or just closed down, not sure there was ever anything official posted).

Thanks for replying. After you mentioned it was looking everywhere for it, without any luck. Many of the volumes are out of print and the ones that are available are pretty expensive, so very hard to find within the UK, unfortunately. Hopefully a scanlation group picks it up, or a company decides to print the volumes in the UK, now that Shokugeki no Soma and Toriko are popular

Nice basic spoiler, but now for the big questions:
! How much does Nakiri granddad strip?
! Totally removes his outer layer of skin
Harem get!
! Soma wins and Megumi match is next.
Spoiler of ch 66 thanks to Eru13 from mangahelpers:
! Souma used an idea he got from candy (like "Nerunerunerune") to make nori into small salmon-roe-like dropsThis idea is actually considered a molecular gastronomy technique
! The rice also has a layer chopped dried bonito inside it
! Judge: If Nakiri Alice's dish was a systematically arranged jewel box,
Judge: This Nori bento is just like a treasure box!!
! The judges get flashbacks to their childhood
! Alice starts saying that her chazuke was a better finisher and then Souma reveals there's a hidden container with Kudzu sauce in his box, he tells the judges to pour this sauce on the remaining rice
! The audience points out that the judges look like they're having fun
! Alice: Yukihira-kun…Is this what you meant?
Alice: Are you trying to tell me that what we should put into our bento is our "heart"?
Alice: The point is whether or not it tastes good...Isn't it?
! Senzaemon: Alice...your bento made a great use of cold.
Alice: Yes...I mean, bento are things that cool down.
Senzaemon: Yukihira Souma didn't fix upon that.
[…]
Senzaemon: You must likely would have presented the same dish if this was a sushi contest.
Senzaemon: Naturally, your dish was extremely delicious…But, in fact,
Senzaemon: You only adapted your techniques to fit in that box...
Senzaemon: A flavor that's conveyed precisely because this is a bento,
Senzaemon: Schemes that make bento culture progress...
Senzaemon: Fun and novelty as a bento,
Senzaemon: Did your dish had any of those?
Souma(thinks): He said all I wanted to say...
! Alice has a flashback to how he decided to go to Europe out of her inferiority complex to Erina
! Senzaemon writes the winner(Souma)'s name with a giant brush
! Megumi is next
! Whelp, there goes any hope of Tadokoro for final boss. That is unless the bracket is funky
@Purple:

! Doesn't it just mean the next round we'll see is Megumi vs whoever. For Soma to have a match against Megumi now would imply she won a match offscreen

! Yeah, bracket order.
Screw Brackets.
Oh that's pretty nice that Eru posted spoilers. I've been checking the usual thread and it's just been fakes.(One of them had Soma serving bugs lol)
! I actually don't really care if a Megumi vs Soma happens in the finals or not as long as it happens. It seems like an extremely interesting matchup leading up to more character progression for her.
So with no participants being spectators I guess they're going to blow through the whole quarter finals in one day?
Who do people think she's going to match up with? I feel going to the most unlikely choice seems to have to most success judging by how the series has been so far.
! Megumi's going to get Eizan's thug, just watch. That's pretty much the only thing they can do to build him up as a formidable opponent, unless they want to have him completely chrush Hayama off-panel and meet Soma in the finals. And if that happens, my bet's on Megumi vs the older Aldini. Or Hisako. Both of those kind of make sense as potential match-ups for Soma.
! There's no way in a million years that the fight you guys are suggesting is going to happen this arc.
! Megumi vs the big ugly guy and this one beating Megumi, would be a standard way to develop the tourney. Soma'll have motivation to meet the guy in the finals… Honestly I'd prefer something more unusual.

"Chinese" RAW just kidding SCANS of course!
! Basically, Japan has a ton of weird fun snacks (sold in traditional dagashi stores) which actually uses molecular gastronomy concepts.
I've seen them in US too, but nowhere near as abundant as in Japan, like two liquids that comes with plastic toy syringes, and when mixed, it turns into a solid, gelatinous snack. And so on.
! Soma incorporated these snacks ideas in his bentou.
Which inadvertently became comparative to Alice's gastronomy concepts, but in in a "fun" way like the snacks.
It's kinda cute seeing Alice, a master chef in gastronomy, being completely oblivious about these snacks that uses exactly the methods in her cooking style. She's like staring at the snack like WHAT IS THIS WIZARDRY… oh it's my own thing.
I'm wondering where her aide is during all of this. You would think he would be kinda over watching her at this point. I don't think I remember seeing him in the stands either.
I'm guessing preparing for his own match. I don't recall seeing Megumi around either for this match to support Souma, so we'll see in the next few chapters I guess.
They've been really experimenting with how much they should give out with the spoilers of that jump promotion.
First 1 page, then 1 panel now we're getting 1 page and a double spread for Soma.

Without context of the full chapter I have to say, the tears make this really awkward.
This follows the current chapter so there is no really need of context.
cheap candy… sweet!!!!
For those not familiar with it, cheap candy(Dagashi/駄菓子) here doesn't refer to a specific type of candy.
It's about sweets in general that are extremely cheap and easily affordable for children.
From the pictures I've seen Japan has quite the variety of stuff, in Germany we're bigger on having gummi bears of all kinds.
Some shops have sweet sections but I think the most prominent place for that kind of stuff here are kioske.
They usually have small paper bags that you can stuff with all kinds of stuff and you pay by weight.
How is this in other countries?
Cheap candy is pretty much the staple of my existence, yeah. Usually one of the few things that I can actually eat.
Senzaemon: "Heart? What is this 'Heart' you speak of? I'm talking about actually making a bento, dammit!"
gummy bear is that kind of candy, isn't it? Or at least the same cooking principle used by Soma to create the nori balls

You buy the perspective from the point of view of the taster? Like Ego's perspetive in Ratatouille.

Oh of course. Emotionally rediscovering how it feels to be a kid with a bento again. The fatal flaw of Alice's cooking is pretty much exactly as Senzaemon said, though, that Alice didn't really do much to further Bento cuisine further more than she did showcase her techniques in the form of a Bento.

Yeah it's jelly-gum like candy, I'm not sure how to describe it.
The most famous are Haribo gummi bears(they produce all kinds of stuff, that cola gum above is also from them).
But almost everything in that paper bag I posted could be classified as such.

Senzaemon: "Heart? What is this 'Heart' you speak of? I'm talking about actually making a bento, dammit!"
Yeah that was pretty funny, kind of adressed people that feared Soma would win with the tropey special ingredient "love".

Yes. Heart could be like giving a particular meaning to your food. The remembrance produced by the nori bento of the childhood when opening the bento box was the perspective/heart/feeling Soma put into it. Curiously is the same plot concept used in Ratatoille, when Ego is 'beaten' for a dish that reminds him of his mom caring for him with good food. :-)

The inspiration seemed to come out of that bento he made for that granny, so yeah. He was just having fun making a whole bento, and it really showed in the final product focusing on actually providing a fulfilling meal that was satisfying rather going for small punches.
For Alice though, because Bento naturally get cold, it was just… Ice to meet you. shot
"I am the principal of Tootsuki, Nakiri Sanzaemon!"
I must say… that was a awesome way to announce the winner.
"Bring me a writing brush!!" indeed.
This manga is just great.
soma must have been inspired by the popin' cookin' series of candy~
from about 2:00 of video.
One thing I have learned in GCCX is the existence of cheap candy. It's a shame it's so hard to find this stuff here.
The snack Soma is referring to is based on this.

Damn that was one hell of a great conclusion for the first match. And while most of us were expecting heart to be the thing Alice was missing, it seems her bento wasn't exclusively bento material–-makes sense.

And just a warning to anyone who's tempted to buy Haribo Gummi Bears, AVOID THE SUGAR-FREE VERSION!! The sugar substitute used (and in many cheap sugar-free candies as well) is a natural laxative, so pop one and you'll be on the toilet for the next hour.

Oh wow didn't know that, good that I don't really like gummi bears. Not a fan of the sticky sensation they leave in your mouth.
Soma makes a cool win.
Megumi next. Megumi versus Soma want. But then, I guess it won't happen, huh? I mean who's she going to beat? Takumi? … Erina's secretary? ... ... Alice's aide, to mirror Soma?
Though we need Ryo and Hisako to fight sometime, probably.
Going to laugh if she fights against Eizan's henchman and wins.
"Noooo my evil plans have been foiled by a country girl…"
I've read people say that she losing against Eizan's henchman sets up motivation for Soma to give that match up more weight.
Can't say I'm a fan of that and it kind of seems too obvious but you'll never know.
With Alice matching up against Soma in the first round which I didn't expect at all I'm going to say she's going to match up against one of the aides(cheating guess:ninja: higher chances). The aides squaring off against each other seems like a match up for the fans(would be pretty cool though)
But seriously I don't know... I don't know... I don't know...
I like how the giant brush is so readily available. As if the guy is Senzaemon's personal brush bearer.

actually it will add more elements in Eizan's animosity with Souma, because that guy is not expected to win against Souma anyway in the end…

What is this magic? 0_0
In america the most we have in customizing snacks is lunchables…which is kinda pathetic.

Yeah, that scene was pretty much comedy gold. I'm seriously digging Senzaemon's character. Dude's chill as fuck.
As for Megumi's match- I'd like to see her compete against an unexpected character. Compete and of course take the win. Megumi's an adorable girl who also happens to be an exceptional chef. It's time for the rest of the gourmet world to realize that.
I'm not even sure why Eizan entered the guy.
Even if Soma lost in the first round, making it this far is a good showing. Heck, even if Soma didn't pass the prelims… it doesn't seems like a very well thought out plan.

"Behold, my diabolical scheme to try to knock you, err… I guess slightly off of 1st place in the tournament!"
Here and the next pages show you why.
Nah Sen's reasoning here I think is that Souma's already made it pretty far in and is already probably one of the top 8 (now 4) of his class, so the guy basically has to completely demolish Souma in a round to give Souma a "crushing defeat," because otherwise, Souma's already done a very respectable run through the tournament that even if he loses here or before then, Souma's done pretty impressively still.
