I'm late as hell lol but I liked the chapter. Still can't get myself to forgive usopp for last week, but seeing him attack trebol out of the blue was nice. I'm liking Kyros' character more and more. Kinda looks like Rob Lucci to me, except a lil more buff. At this point, I'd say that he has a fair chance of being a part of the crew, up there with violet and Rebecca. Wonder who is gonna join. Sucks that there's a break next week. I'm not fond of flashbacks in this situation, since so much is happening, but I'm actually really interested in Kyros' history..
One Piece Chapter 741 - Usoland The Liar
-
-
Okay 3 things can happen from here.
1.) Ussop ends up getting owned up to the point until he learns haki.
This can't and will not happen.
Or maybe Oda does something completely different. But I really want him to start learning haki….
Usopp using his own ways to defeat Trebol would be a million thousand time better than him learning haki.
-
And then all the toys in the area(including Robin) turn to normal and proceed to curbstomp Trebol
I seriously hope Trebol is taken in a 1 on 1 before all the toys awaken.
Otherwise, it would be kind of unsigthly to see one of Dofla's top 3 guys being mercilessly destroyed by the incoming army of badasses. . .
Still, I kinda look forward to a magnificient 2 page spread where all the colosseum fighters return to human form and start wrecking shit up. It'll probably amount to just that, a badass spread and the realization that, with these guys (and many others) running free, Dofla's empire is done for, but I do expect Oda to give us a magnificient, badass spread with all the heavy hitters ready to go at it (or already going at it).
And I'm really curious as to what Oda intends to do with 1-Kanjuro, 2-Manshelly, 3-Hakuba. With the way things are rolling, I don't think neither 1 nor 2 will be relevant in the end, for lack of time, though the way Oda redid Kanjuro's shadow on volume 73 is really puzzling, and could lead to something. For 3, it remains to be seen if the whole Cavendish/Hakuba thingie was just a super elaborate plot device to let Rebecca advance to the final round, or if it will have further uses. I think the way Oda has been building up Cavendish, along with Barto the most relevant Colosseum fighter, seems to point towards something else, but since I kinda expect the both of them (Barto and Cavendish) to keep making appearances even after Dressrosa is done, the whole thing might be adressed in another arc entirely and not now. . .
-
Hey Oda, that's a really nice tie you have drawn there
! http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/747583onepiece4087811.jpg
First pic from Kyros flashback, second from B block!
Ouw! I am Suuuuuper! Oda is not bad either! That's some awesome detail right there and I love One Piece for such things.
I mean, at first I thought this was just some coincidence, but the line on the left side of the face was the giveaway.

That in OP, surviving a 4-ton bat is overrated.
That's not what Ms. Merry Christmas made it look like.

I just wanted to make a quick point that I don't think that Usopp's lies affecting SOP and the dwarves' behaviour is debatable. He lied to save himself and Robin, but also his lies are the reason the dwarves put so much trust in him, they're the reason they called out to him repeatedly when they were defeated, and (this one is just an assumption) they may not have confronted Sugar the way they did had they not expected so much of Usopp. So to say that his lies didn't affect the operation negatively seems bizarre to me…
I thought this chapter basically guaranteed Trebol as Logia, he was cut in half and is clearly not going to die, so he has to be able to put himself back together. He isn't Buggy, so I don't see how there could be anything ralated to being sticky that has to do with being able to separate parts of your body, regardless of what people think a logia is and whatnot. If he ends up being paramecia, I would consider that a HUGE unnecessary stretch in order for Usopp to be able to handle him if even slightly, unless Oda can come up with a clear and plausible explanation.
-
Cavendish will kill Ussop!
-
This spread is one of my all time favourites, I can't get over how awesome Sanji, Franky and Zoro look, especially Zoro, I had to make him my new avatar. There is not a thing about Nami in it that makes her look even remotely cool or badass, but she looks great, I guess that's the point.

I had to look really closely to make out the words on Chopper's tank: "ITS TAKES TWO TO MAKE A QUARRE"
It takes two to make a quarrel, Oda? That's pretty profound.
And Brook's getup is totally sweet. I think I've found my new AV. Brook's tank says, "All's well that ends welt." LOL

What about the ability to stick parts of your body back together and close wounds?
I know, wishful thinking.
Actually why didn't they just cover Trebol with flour like in that one movie?
-
Honestly, I didn't like Usopp nor dislike his development in this chapter, the fact that he had to hear the sound of death "pigya" from the dwarfs in order to act is a 'NO' to me.
But again, it is his dream to be a brave warrior which he can't accomplish this early, or will he? And his next dream will be to be Sniper King.

About the logia stuff. Is Swamp or Smoke even considered as an element?
If Trebol is truly a logia, then we can agree that logia fruits are things within the nature but not elements only. Kinda don't make sense though.
-
Logia for me is a natural element that would be present without life. Swamps are water and mud, smoke is a bi-product of combustion.
-
Nice chapter.
Usopp's about to get his ass whooped in front of all the dwarves, until someone shows up to help him.
It's been a while, since I last saw a badly beaten Usopp, with a broken nose. -

I believe Trebol's Logia represents anything sticky that is found in nature (resin, honey, mucus, tar, etc.) instead of something specific.
It's like how there are different kinds of sand and smoke out there, but they're all generically called "sand" and "smoke" anyway.
-
I still think that Kinemon is gonna show up just in time, to help Ussop defeat Trebol or save Ussop. And I think that Kanjuuro has been turned into a toy like all the rest.
-

But Gladius and Kin'emon still remembers Kanjuro…
-
Ah derp… you make a good point... then I wonder where Kanjuuro is? Idk, I just think the whole Trebol being flammable is obvious foreshadowing by Oda... but what I am thinking, is maybe it is too obvious and he is just making a lot of readers think that Kinemon will defeat Trebol, when something else will happen instead?
-
trebol will not recognize kinemon
and then ussop will meltdown if he sees doflaemon -
Someone is likely to intervene and help them out.
Would be pretty interesting to see some supernovas.

But seriously. Is Logia a must under an element? Tbh what's Logia is Logia. No use arguing it. Why can't people just agree?
Or is it that people are thinking it's paramecia idek. -
Plot twist: Usopp somehow makes Sugar touch Trebol. Then when Sugar gets knocked out, Trebol curbstomps an unexpecting Usopp in the blink of an eye.
That would mean that anyone Sugar touches automatically turns into a toy. I'd like to think she has more control over it.

Oh thanks. I'd hate it if a quarter of the ring got destroyed offpanel.
If I had the time, I'd try to guess the positions of every finalist based on those few figures shown.

If Trebol is truly a logia, then we can agree that logia fruits are things within the nature but not elements only. Kinda don't make sense though.Maybe it's best to think about that sort of thing as the setting is in a 19th century world. Scientists were experimenting with chemical elements but there was still widespread beliefs in things like alchemical science and elements. So to a super-scientist like Vegapunk or Ceasar oxygen was a thing, but to the majority it was all just air.
-
Maybe Trebol paramecia-sticky powers make him immune to some kind of deaths.
I mean his nose drop never falls cause it's sticky, this way we can assume every part of his body is sticky even his blood, organs etc. so he wont lose much blood cause it's stuck on his body. Maybe even his soul is stuck so even if he is cut in half he will still be able to recompose his body and all its parts, like a sticky slime.
Maybe he simply squashed to the ground and his upper body was a decoy… Or he is just a logia... Or...I like the theory that his real body is hidden inside his sticky slurry fake body.
-
is it so difficult to accept trebol as a logia?

HAHAHA I mentioned this in another post the day the chapter was released and I laughed at welt too xD. I couldn't make out the word "make" on Chopper's tank, so thanks for that. I thought it was a play on "It takes two to tango", like how "welt" is really "well". I'm a little surprised by the grammar mistakes but I'll live.

I've only ever watched Strong World and Z so I don't actually know what you're referring to xD sorry (and the one with Vivi, but it's just an Alabasta recap, so I stopped halfway)
See, that's something I would consider a stretch because a wound is one thing, but getting sliced in half, something that should cause instantaneous death, is another. However, we all know the same should have applied for when Ace had most of his torso completely burned away, and we already know how One Piece generally deals with realistic physical capabilities, so we can't take that too seriously. There's also Viola's and Brook's DFs, which give them some very abstract improvements (the ice attacks, and her weird tear attack thing) that wasn't necessarily explained as part of the fruit's core ability.
So conclusion: I wouldn't put it past Oda to go about it this way.
-
@Mex:

Hell yeah.
Since it isnt directly confirmed whether his DF is logia or paramecia, i'll go with the latter. I think we'll get a confirmation next chapter (like Robin or Sugar commenting on it).

It would still hurt as hell, so I don't see why Trebòl wouldn't try to dodge it in the first place if it was a Paramecia.

The colour spread also made me think about something. Sandai Kitetsu (because Zoro is rarely shown unsheathing it on spreads and stuff like that in comparison to the other two). And then I got to thinking if Zoro will ever upgrade to Nidai Kitetsu. Maybe one of the samurai will lead him to it… :ninja:

Paramecia fruits are just much more interesting than logias
yeah i agree with that too.
maybe it depends on the fact that i'm a newcomer here and i don't even have the time to read all the messages, i still have to get accustomed to the environment, but what i don't understand it's the growing trend of trying to foresee what will happen and then get upset if it will not.
so many people wanted to see the coliseum so this chapter basically was a failure just because of that, others wanted trebol to be paramecia, so if trebol is a logia is less interesting.
I mean, it's all about the story, the dd family is a very well assorted group and i almost like them all, the point is the whole character of trebol, his bitter interaction with sugar, how it will end up, how usopp will get through him and with the help of who. How the plot will unfold.
we all know how it will end up, we already know the end of the story from the first page and still read it after so many yearsOP has never be a strict beating ass and power level material, all the story is based on relationships and connections, growing as a human being, having fear and overcoming that, being free, phisically and mentally.
i still don't like a lot of part of one piece and not all the characters meet my preferences but cmon, it's a 20 year long story and oda is still having care of the little tiny invisible details like it was the first chapter, it's not about worshipping oda is about giving the man credit for his huge, passionate and precise work.
-
on the note of Zoro's swords, I've been really hoping he picks up one of the 12 great swords on Wano (I think Zoro needs to pick up one [more than one would be overkill] of these by the time he fights for the title of World's Greatest). The only sword he has right now that seems to be relatively fungible is the one he got from Ryuuma; if he turns that in at Wano as a sign of respect (as it was stolen by Moria), I could see them returning his favor with a gift.
i've been pretty disappointed at the lack of graded swords throughout the series to be honest. Oda just misses a lot of opportunities. We've only seen 3 of the 21 great swords. It's not like it would be a big deal to just say people like Cavendish have one (Durandal), but Oda never does this, and I'm not really sure why.

Yep, but 10(Strong World), 11(Mugiwara Chase), 12(Z), 6(Baron Omatsuri) and 8(Alabasta) were all better than 4(Dead End Adventure), In my opinion. I don't really remember 9(Chopper arc), but I believe that was better as well.
Dead End Adventure began really originally and really interesting, but instead of concentrating in the race and competition of it , they made the plot of the race being bought and after that the movie was … let's say, not good. -

The Shodai Kitetsu (strongest of the 3) is one of the 12 supreme swords (that's the wiki translation) so I have believed since the introduction of Sandai that he would get this one eventually, and I really hope he does. I also kind of hope he stops "losing" his previous swords in order to get new ones, b/c it would be cool to own multiple, but he's not a collector, so I don't see it going this way. It's just weird, for the example of Yubashiri, that one of the 50 Skillful Grade ones be destroyed, becoming 49 (although maybe plenty of the others have been destroyed too, but they keep them on the list)… and idk, I just don't like that a famous blade is forever gone, but that's just me I guess. And I guess it's not as bad as one of the more famous ones being destroyed (which I'm sure Oda would have no problem doing in the future). Maybe Wado will break in his final battle, as a symbol of his reaching his goal or something, just a thought, idk if I'd like it.
In terms of how many named swords we've gotten that are one of the graded swords, I felt the same way for a long time, but I think you have to remember there are ONLY 12 Supreme grades and 21 great grades. In the entire world. It would make sense that most of them be in the New World, I think. So I understand that, as long as we get more from now on than we did pre-TS. I hope we see all 12 Supremes and most of the 21 greats at least, by the end of the series, but I could be asking for too much xD. I like the idea behind giving away Shusui for a new one, but I really like that blade and I feel like Sandai Kitetsu has overstayed its' welcome (mostly because I want to see him get all 3 cursed blades). I think it looks cool but it feels so inferior being part of just the general list of grade swords and not a numbered one. We're a little over halfway through the series so it's a perfect time to get Nidai, have that for a while, and then finally get the Shodai for the end.
I also just realized Yubashiri is the only famed sword he has lost so far, so I can't really say "keep losing" but I feel like that's what Oda will keep doing.
Finally, sorry for the length of the post, I am very invested in this topic.

No argument there, the first half is the main reason why I like it more than other movies. Second half left a lot to be desired, but it's almost a theme in OP movies.

Shuraiya Bascud was badass, I can see why people wouldn't like that side of the movie though but the big fight and ending of the movie was pretty satisfying. In my opinion the weakest OP movies are the ones re-telling story arcs but that's just me.
The way I see it OP movies are like One Piece arcs in general, people have their own preference.
@Bolded By that logic, doesn't that make One Piece or any story for that matter that has a twist or shift from the set plot bad though? and they did finish the race from what I remember..

The problem isn't really the twist, the thing is that the things that came after the twist were bad. If it didn't had a twist and it kept like the first half it would be way better, but it can be argued that even without the twist the race could be horrible, so is just my faith that would they kept the race it would kept the first half quality.
I believe they finished the race in the end, but it wasn't a race anymore, because the manager of it was bought and all the competition was arrested or fled.P.S: And No, I didn't thought the big fight and ending were satisfying. You're lucky, because you had a good time when I didn't!

But if Shuusui is considered their natural treasure and it's one of the 21 great swords, I think it's unlikely they'd have an even better sword and even more unlikely for them to just give it away. Another problem is that Kuina's sword is Zoro's most prized possession and it's one of the 21 great swords, him getting one of the 12 would kinda hurt that a bit.
Personally I hope Zoro's next sword is the Nidai Kitetsu, another one of the 21 great swords and an upgrade from Sandai and he'd be using 3 swords of the same rank.

I suspect that it's a national treasure primarily because of its historical significance. In addition to being a really old sword, it was also used to slay a huge dragon. I think given Wano's strange aversion to dragons, the sword takes on a sort of holy quality when it is connected with the act of dragon-slaying.
I think Wano would be a great place to introduce one of the 12 swords, what with it being a samurai haven.
If not Wano, then I expect Kaidou's first mate and Bobbins to have one of the 12 supreme swords. I'm a bit surprised that we didn't see of any them during the Whitebeard War. Vista appears to be a pretty formidable swordsman, but his blades look pretty plain. -

I think he will upgrade his Sadai Kitetsu and I personally don't see him getting rid of Shusui in Wano just because the sword was stolen but I can see the strongest Samurai or Ryuma descendant trying to take it back but realizing at the end that the sword could no be in better hands.
Oda probably has been planning to introduce a lot of those swords in Wano and that's why he has been keeping his hands out of them also introducing swords like that is lame, the only strawhat who cares about them is Zoro and he doesn't even know their names nor how great they are, now If Tashigi was on the crew then that's a different story right there.
