Hunter x Hunter II

Well, I don't know if this helps, but the feeling is, more or less, mutual. It bothers me that I'm bothered by this series, and no one (that I'm aware of) seems to share my concerns or attitude about it. Not that anyone has to, I guess, but it does make me concerned about my personal taste and my ability to judge the quality of a story. It even makes me wonder about my emotions and my morality. Why does this one story invoke so much internal distress in me whereas other stories, that perhaps should invoke more distress, don't? When I see you guys praise it, it kind of reinforces my doubt and makes me wonder why I'm the only one who seems to see it like this (but, to be clear, don't stop praising this series just because of my personal hang up). And this is why I'm very thankful for all the support that's been shown on this thread, assuring me that my arguments are reasonable and understandable.
At any rate, if you thought my posts come off as aggressive or antagonistic, then I'm sorry for that. And I forgive you as well. (Though, I won't lie, sometimes I do feel like letting lose on this thread)
Alright I understand, not everyone is going to like the same things and I understand your story on personal hang ups keeping you from finishing a story even though it's of excellent quality to others. It's all fine.

Kurapika, nope, don't remember him.
I do remember seeing some gloomy blond guy in a suit in the last chapters though.
Wait, guy? Wasn't that a girl?
! obligatory "that was a joke" ninja emoticon :ninja:
-
Everybody likes Leorio.
I don't. But that's probably also because he's had like only two important scenes. Hisoka wound up helping Gon more than Leorio…Splitting the group was probably the problem. While it made sense, it also made Leorio irrelevant. His goals just had nothing to really give him a reason to adventure so he had no reason to follow. Plus the nen ability he gained was similar to the boxing guy in GI. I don't even get what he could have been doing to gain such an ability. How does punch teleporting help being a doctor. He was the one that should have had an ability like Pitou's Doctor Blythe.
-
Random fact by a random person: both Gon and Killua's 2011 anime CVs will have voiced Pretty Cure by the time the year is out. Gon's has been cast as Cure Princess in the new HappinessCharge! Pretty Cure.
Futari wa Hunters!

! Leorio's still studying up to go to med school, and Kurapika is still hunting for eyeballs.
! Especially the final chapter before the break, it seems much more likely that, pending we actually get more chapters, it'll be focusing on them kids entering the dark continent -
Actually it didn't even leave off on him. Never mind.
-
@Holy:
Pitou is the best character in the series though. And possibly of all time.
Not sure why i am seeing a April fools joke in the middle of January -_-'
-
I don't think Kurapika will star again for a good long time. He's pretty much capped talent wise right now and the Spiders already know who he is and his abilities. Leorio is still incubating his talents. I bet Gon and Killua are super powered compared to any of the other recent Hunters right now, especially Killua whose techniques are much better than Gon's IMV.
-
I don't doubt that there can be more that Kurapika has learned and developed in the time away from the plot, so I wouldn't say he's capped talent considering the nature of abilities in this series as well as his progress in collecting the scarlet eyes… but I'd say that Togashi doesn't really know what to do with Kurapika just yet considering that the spiders are still on the move and we don't know Chrollo's progress with the exorcism yet.
-
The exorcist guy just dropped off the face of the series, I wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't do it for some reason and the pregnant Chimera ant is the one who exorcises Chrollo in the end.

Yeah, a goof off post accompanying four nearly identical statements is hella bad, actually, and it's important to let me know that despite it being silly in tone, it's actually quite risible. Cannot let my pride get the better of me though, I will be humble here and admit it's not as great a joke as your signature and for that I apologize.

LOL how ironic , you have that lame ass mentally retarded character avatar. Yet something is wrong the signature of one of the greatest villain of all time ?! LOL ok whatever gets you throught the night

I've always wanted a Leorio, Kurapica, Killua team-up arc with Gon off doing something

Haha you were the tone deaf guy who legitimately thought hyperbolic statements were actually sincere so don't try to act like you're the mighty dude in the dumbass anime forum.
I mean I know you have the fuckin' Jokerman quote that is totally badass as hell to a 12 year old in your sig and for that I am definitely wondering if I should back away, especially if the titular King in your username is actually you. But when that quote in your sig is followed up by adding "- The Jokey" right above a picture of him, ensuring it will escape no hermit who has yet to see popular culture in the past few decades that it is in fact bad dude Jokester your signature revolves around… Well let's just say I'm getting brave...
God I hope I'm ready to argue with children about innocuous things on the internet... Especially when they're so fuckin cool and I've got this shitty baby avatar, for dumb babies like me.

I have been asking myself, what is better? Stand or Nen?
What's better? Flexibility or Fabulousness?
-
But stands can be fabulously flexible !
-
But stand can be fabulously flexible !
Stands tend to be more constrained, so whatever their ability set is, once you've developed it, you can only unlock abilities as opposed to creatively coming up with them as you go. That said, some stands have the capacity to way overpower any regular nen ability and person, and many people are super creative in spite of some weak stands.
Also, fab, so my vote goes for stands.
-
I put JJBA on top of EVERYTHING when it come to "Shounen powahs and fighting", but HxH is the next best thing.
You see,I tend to prefer unconventional superpowers and an emphasis on tactics, which HxH delivers and which JoJo cranks up to eleven.
-
I mean objectively speaking, it'd be pretty cool to develop and tailor an ability to your own personality.
But floating ghosts who can pose? Who would ever pass up on that?

I acknowledge that it was my own fault for applying my knowledge in an argument aggressively . But at least i am not a pretentious person like you .
And pretending to be someone "mature" while using "fuckin" in every sentence and giving big lectures every time someone says negative about your favorite series and character is great, right ?! And I am sorry but who are you exactly to get angry at me for using that signature? Do you like own this forum or something? Last time i checked this was a public forum and i can use whatever i want for the signature or username . You act like someone mature but come across as a clown who is trying extremely hard to sound grown up while constantly giving people lectures on irrelevant stuff and that's backed up by your social status in this forum so i assume that you must think of as someone really mighty in this forum . And if you find this offensive then by all means you can banned me since i was gonna leave this forum today anyway . So good bye to your little "mature" group of people .

We have just lost a voice of maturity and insight.
Anyway back on the fab topic

Haha. I didn't even ever say anything negative due to "my favorite series and character" so I don't know what he's talking about, since I just got done telling Nobodyman to express his opinion and be happy with it lol. I think he really was just a lil kid. Oh well.
-
Well with stands you can luck out and get a super hax power and with nen you have to put actual effort in devising and developing a power… ugh~
So I'll go with stands. You can see me and Togashi think alike. Maybe that's why I like HxH so much. -
Thank you Robby for brightening up my day.

If you're going to leave AP at least do it big by posting something like this

New episode was good overall but had too many repeated animations. Starting the think the constant narration may get annoying after two or three more episodes. It worked well in the manga but I'm not sure if five or more episode of it can translate well to anime.
-
It worked well in the manga
This is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read all day.
Last week's episode was pretty weak, but this week's was very good. As much as I like Akagi, Kaiji Madhouse-style heavy narration with metaphors, an action series deserves dedicated action and the anime adapted the manga quite well, rather than stuck to pure slideshow like in 111.
-
Shaiapouf's dramatic stupidity is always fun to watch.

Not much you can do when the source material has around 10 seconds of real-time per chapter with very long narration.
-
You know I feel like my Pouf hate is decreasing, for he is just too 70's shoujo kind of hilariously dramatic and that entertains me.
-
Wow. HailTheKing was banned? It's a harsh world out there/here.
Unfortunately, it seems that where I watch HxH, the reception towards the narrator is somewhat poor…
! The comments….
@Cyst:
! > @Mary:@TickettoJapan:
To anyone saying that the narrator is needed because there's too much happening, I want you all to go back to the last 2 episodes and re-watch them. I want you all to count exactly how many actions ,actual different things different characters do, were made. Then I want you to go and watch any of the first 100 episodes and compare. If you still believe that the narrator and the slow motion are anything but stalling for screen time than you all should most certainly visit mental institutions because you are completely retarded. Not only that but the narrator voice is fucking hideous. FREE HUNTER, KILL THE NARRATOR!
okay, so it seems that you never read the manga. just read it and you'll understand. well I'll give you the hint. some pages of its manga are only contain pics without dialogue. and what will happens if it applied to anime? don't you think it'll be the awkward moment? and that's why there're some narrations. got a problem? tell it to Togashi.
Hmm, I wonder what could possibly happen without a narrator commenting on every single fk, without someone telling me what happens because I am blind, sure I wouldn't understand sht. Who cares what is in the manga? Is this the manga? No, it's the anime, and this is but an annoying waste of time, nothing more. Open your eyes and keep the other dude's advice because he's right. It wasn't necessary before, it is not necessary now.
! @Cyst:
! > Alright, just one more episode like this and I am going to drop it. Seriously, if I want to watch something boring and annoying sht, I watch naruto. But this? Slow motion? Narrator blabbling half the time? While basically nothing happens? Fk that.
! @Ringo:
! > where is the narrator's home ? i want to fucking kill him right now !! seriously last 3 episodes, 1 episode each week full of his shit.. waste last 3 week bzz
! @Javielopr:
! > For God's sake what an annoying narrator I am tired of it and the gay scenes all of the narration stopping action from happening is stupid it gives a bad impression of what is a great Anime. This gives a sense that all has already happened and the narrator is telling the story which I hate…........... Please stop narrating and give more action pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaseWTF narrator is not needed; imagine this. Killua is walking down the hall to kill two insects he moves his hands to kill the insects with the yoyo's wow what a fucking retarded shit the narrator just made me realize what I already saw fuck you retards fuck the narrator we have eyes and a brain to realize what the fuck is going on for God's sake stop thinking we are that stupid we understand it all and we understand you are just killing time and wasting our time as well with these stupid tactics.
! @xxxx:
! > @GonRocks:I'm so irritated because it's been 3 weeks since the narration begin, I was hoping some epic fight but THE Fck? What's with that Fcking GAY BUTTERFLY dancing and …. SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! But I think this episode rocks because Gon was so so freaking COOL at the end of this ep.
haha that anoying gay butterfly
On a side note, I loved Gon's reference to Hyorri ittai in the preview. -
Unfortunately, it seems that where I watch HxH, the reception towards the narrator is somewhat poor…

Now I remember why I stick to AP forums LOL.

Stream video comments are crappy and full of raging ? Who would've thought
Plus the narrator thing is bound to be divisive because it spits in the face of "show don't tell" and is kinda hit or miss in what it's trying to achieve. Sometimes, it's almost poetic, other times it's "YEAH, THE DOOR OPENED, I SAW THAT".
Doesn't make the rage-y comments and how they express their discontent any less eyerolling though.
-

What is this video forum thing? Tell me so I can see these people for myself.

The stream comments were pretty annoying. I think I've said this already but I really like the narration because it adds suspense and dramatic effect. If they really hate narration then they should steer away from JoJo:ninja:

It was a good episode, no question. My fear is that people, mostly the ones who don't read the manga, will get tired of the constant battle narration. From looking at recent posts its already started.
Maybe I didn't phrase it right before. When reading the manga most people won't have a problem with heavy narration because you're reading and that's part of the medium. Transferring that to an anime over several episodes where people expect you to "show, don't tell", like someone mentioned is what I was worried about specifically to this series. Yeah, we've seen other anime shows with narrated fights but for many HxH fans who expected faster paced battles this is coming out of nowhere.
-
What is this video forum thing? Tell me so I can see these people for myself.
Not forum. Comments section.

Not much you can do when the source material has around 10 seconds of real-time per chapter with very long narration.
Can go the dragonball "5 minutes" route. Say it takes place in a short amount of time when it clearly doesn't. Or just say "screw it" and have the raid take 20 minutes instead of 20 seconds. Its cool to say that a ridiculous amount of things happened in an extremely short amount of time, but at some point there's a threshhold.
Animate what's going on in the character's heads in some creative way. Show them considering possibilities or use metaphor.
There's other options besides using a slow-motion slide show with heavy narration.
What works in one medium (and it barely worked in the manga) doesn't always translate into another.
-
I don't mind the narration. Since most of it seems to be internal feelings and realizations. We would be having internal dialogue anyways. The characters in this seem to do a lot of instinctual actions so having themselves explain why they do certain things would be more strange I think.
-

I guess using metaphors would be fine, but most of the other options you suggested would cause some information to be lost.
