This is pretty damming guys. Get out your pitchforks and picket signs.
Kill La Kill
-
-
Well, the issue is moot now. It's not as though I want Kill La Kill off the air or anything silly like that–I do enjoy the series overall--but that did seem pretty damn plagiaristic.
-
Even if it is plagiarism, nobody is going to care, Trigger has money and production values, and the other series only ran for a few volumes in the early naughties.
-
@All:
Did people also scream 'HURR DURR GETTER ROBO RIP-OFF" when Gurren Lagann was airing 7 years ago?
"B-b-but TTGL is unique in everything it does and totally unlike all the other lame robot anime !"
I can't even count how many times I've heard the above ignorant nonsense.

Oh yeah, I really hate it when people call TTGL a 'parody' of mecha too. As if there's some kind of rule that says shows about giant robots blasting the shit out of things have to be dead serious. They might as well call Getter, Mazinger, Gunbuster, Giant Robo, G Gundam etc 'parodies' while they're at it.
-
Sad thing is, nearly all people who call TTGL a parody don't even know the names of the series you just mentioned.
-
The most I know of TGL is it borrowing character design aspects from Breath of Fire games, and even a few story aspects from really obscure mech games(like Drill Dozer) I played. But that could be coincidence. It's just not really new that everything conceivable is loosely based off or inspired by something or multiple things. So big deal?
-
So, I heard good things about this series, is it worth a watch? Because I'm still kind of uncertain if it's a good as I hear it is.
-
It started of strong but with time it kinda got boring and repetitive in my opinion. The main protagonist is pretty one dimesnional so far without any real development and the main plot is moving really slow.

Yeah I gotta agree, its a nice premise and has some of that great Ganiax weirdness and wackiness but it takes so long to get to the main point and honestly Ryuko just isn't interesting. Reminds me too much of Inuyasha really, just one of those types that like to charge in and start swinging with no regard for strategy. Okay the heroes in Gurren were like that too but at least it was fun. Plus I'm never a fan of series where, oh the hero gets the victory but whoops it was part of the villain's plan all along and will just make things harder in the future. I can only put up with that once or twice, but having the whole story revolve around it is just annoying because it shows that the hero (or rather the story) can't think of ways to counter it and the other option is to get more powerful that the plans won't succeed because of it.
But hey were getting into the second half of the series, so I can only hope the story will start picking up from here.
-
That's a VERY strange complaint since people here say it moves too fast. Then again, that was a strange compliant to begin with.
As for me, I think it's very fun show that does alot of very unconventional and strange things with its concept, despite how cliche it is on the surface. Haven't enjoyed an anime this much in a long time.
If you are one that would rather a slower paced and more logical sort of series, then maybe it isn't for you. -
I wasn't complaing about it being slow, I was complaining that it takes too long to get to it's point. The first half is roughly nothing but fighting some no name members or getting curb-stopped with nothing much in the way of the initial plot. A lot of action but nothing really happens story wise. It's just oddly paced.
-
Wasn't talking about you, but…
So 12 episodes to too long to show the nature of how the suit gets stronger along with introductions and flashbacks/developments of multiple characters that serve a purpose in the story? Eh fair enough. Can't say I seen alot of series that covered what this show sovered in 3/6 episodes, but you are entitled to make it sound like this show has been going on for a long time. -
Kinda late, but it sort of sounds like Kill la Kill is to that other manga, what Hunger Games is to Battle Royale. aka, same basic concept, different central idea, but enough to start a commotion from people with nothing better to do. The similarities seem really superficial, honestly, though I haven't read the other one so no final judgment from me.
Also, purely from what I've heard about the Japanese school system, I'm surprised that not every anime or manga takes place in a brutal alternate universe where class rank correlates directly to social standing.
-
Sure Hiroy, I hate the show for exactly that reason XP
In any case though, next episode's due next week right?
-
New episode is next week, should have the new OP and ED.
My KLK folder is getting complicated.
-
Well, that was a way to start the year
! Senketsu is gone, ripped to shreds. Called it, but definitely did not expect it to happen in that way. Wow.
-
! The glasses guy just being Nui in disguise got me. Didn't expect that at all.
! also Ragyo just keeps getting more glorious. Can't wait to see what Mako gets to do in the next episodes.
-
Wow, that episode was truly amazing. Really enjoying the Ragyo scenes, more than I should probably, lol.
! Wonder how she'll get the pieces back with no uniform and how she'll put it back together? :o
-
That was different, all right.
Ryuko is right now the weakest link in the series, she lacks motivation and development and has already lost her freshness. She really needed to be reset as a character.
How Trigger handles Ryuko from now on would decide if the series could live to its initial hype.
-
That you say such things after watching this episode completely discredits your statements.
Anyway, I was expecting a relaxing episode after all the brawl.
! And instead I get a yet as awesome episode as the previous one.
This show is truly amazing.
-
! God damn it Satsuki, will you just fuck off? You keep ruining Nui's revenge.
! On an not-hyperbole opinion: I like how Nui beats Ryuko with the same 3 hit combo she gave her dad. -
Well, they certainly zigged when I expected them to zag. Wasn't expecting that in the slightest, and I think I like how it resets the series.
At least it makes Nui one of the more loathsome characters I've seen in quite some time.
-
So all that's left for Ryuko is
! to join temporarily Nudist Beach until she manages to recover, somehow, Senketsu?
-
I always thought the only thing left for Ryuko was to
! not lose her way.
-
shame I thought the official part 1 closeout would be a bit more epic like in ttgl.
serviceable but not great
satsuki with her mom was really creepy -

Perhaps she'll
! not lose her way if she joins the Nudist Beach
-
I don't care what Tumblr says. I like Nui. I would not want to be chased around by a happy go lucky killer like her.
As for the episode, it felt a little too slow for me. I could tell Trigger was holding out on the animation budget because there was not a whole lot moving. Even less so than episode 4. Hopefully the fast paced-ness returns very soon.
-
One eye covered, banned from school grounds, in the girls bathroom, wants to see Ryuko put on Senketsu so bad…
How come I still didn't see it coming.
-
I didn't feel stupid about missing that until you reminded me of the bathroom scene. That was troll foreshadowing right there.
-
More OST! Some freaking great remixes.
Tracks 19-23 -

Tracks 19-23Thanks man, I could always do with more of this song.
-

serviceable but not great
satsuki with her mom was really creepyEnd of part 1 isn't til episode 15 I think. New OP starts at 16, so that's what I'd think anyways.

I kinda hate Nui and want her to suffer horribly, so you could say she's a pretty effective villain

Ahh, hate and love are the same thing. -
Her dress has this pink bunny motif that I really like too. This series panders to my obsession with bunnies too much.
-
Fantastic ep, I feel like I'm finally 100% pulled into the story.
How did Nui stuff those gargantuan pigtails into that disguise lol
-
This album. THIS ALBUM. He's got the look down perfectly.

This album. THIS ALBUM. He's got the look down perfectly.
Thank you for this.
-
Even though the main plot seems to be moving into full gear now, for some reason I just don't care at all for the series or any of the characters anymore, despite liking it very much at the beginning. Probably gonna wait till it's finished and see if I'm gonna watch it to the end then.
-
Very surprised after the beginning. This series keeps pushing the story very well so far, might be the second best, new anime of 2013 for me and it continued very well with episode 13. Looking forward to it.
-
Orgasmic.

Japanese people already have trouble pronouncing anything in easy-to-sound-out languages that use a lot of the same basic sounds as Japanese (Spanish etc). English is more awkward but so common that they usually become okay at it. But then there are other languages that are totally different vocally, like German, and… yeah. Ughhhh.
-
After her speach in this episode, I wonder if Ragyo's most effective during a fight not wearing anything at all.
-
Despite the pronounciation Blumenkranz is still a pretty kickass track.

First guy is way too optimistic and fit looking to be an anime fan. The non-anime fan having a mac is a decent touch though.
