That was a pretty good episode. Definitely getting off to a good start this season.

Okay, I'm finally going to let my thoughts out on the premier:
! LOVED IT! I was impressed that they went a different route, instead of introducing another villain. Although I was hoping for a continuation of King Sombra, since we all know he's not over, but I'm guessing that will just be for the season finale. The teasers had me very worried that Nightmare Moon was going to be the villain, but thankfully it was just a flashback. I did NOT want Luna to have all her progress wiped. I'm also impressed that they had the balls, as it were, to seal away the Elements of Harmony for real, to take away their Deus Ex. It gives them a writing challenge, because it leaves them without a big gun to use. Although if those six keys just means they can get the Elements back, I'll groan.
! Like everyone else I was happy to see Twilight struggling with her new self, both with her wings and her Princess status. All very Twilight-ish. A theme of the season will probably be about her growing more into her role, but she isn't going to stay in Canterlot, is she? She's going to get a reason to stay in Ponyville. Everyone else was great too, loved Rarity's moments especially. But does Sweetie Belle live with her permanently now or something? What happened to their parents?
! Some people wanted a song, but frankly I fine without one. It didn't need it. Songs should feel natural, not shoved in.
! All in all, a great start to the season, I can't wait for the rest.I'm not going to watch that leaked episode. All those who do, keep the spoiler tags tight.
-
! But does Sweetie Belle live with her permanently now or something? What happened to their parents?
! It was most likely just some plot convenience. I think we're meant to assume that she was on another visit.
-
I demand an episode where Rarity's mom comes over and accidentally screws things up.
I mean her mom is (almost) Fran Drescher, there's certainly comedic posibilities here, given the fact neither of her parents really fits her personality at all.
-
So, one of the tweaks on the new opening…
I understand throwing the CCs into the group shot… and Granny and Big Mac... but why the Cakes, the mayor, and the photographer?
-
I assume that Twilight's role as Princess might have something to do with the mayor's appearance.
Remember in season 1, Celestia backed out of a social gathering because the mayor requested an audience with her. "Royal duty calls!"
Perhaps the mayor will appear more often at some points, to consult with the local Princess? Also, the cakes are probably there because they fill in the space with the excuse of Pinkie living with them. Also, their designs are colorful and relatively unique.
Regarding the group shot, i think the biggest elephant in the room is Snips & Snails.
What the heck kinda role do the idiotic lackeys get to play that doesn't involve kissing the asses of antagonists? -

Photo Finish is there because she's the one taking the picture, no other reason. The Cakes are there because a lot of shit goes down in the Sweet Shop and it's Pinkie's place of employment. Plus: Pound and Pumpkin Cake. The mayor . . . . . I'm only guessing because a lot more "official" stuff is going to be happening this season.

I made a small PMV about episode 3:
!
It's an obvious combo, but i couldn't resist.

Thoughts on today's episode (#3?)
! Ah, the classic "everyone goes to a scary place and overblow all of their fears" episode.
! I liked it a lot, not just because it was "spooky" and the humor was pretty good, but because while everyone else is going crazy with fear, Twilight was just chilling and reading. Her point at the end makes sense, but Celestia and Luna couldn't made it less macabre? lol
! Figures it'd be Pinkie (although yes, I peeked at the spoiler). You don't have her in an episode and not use her. And while I was expecting this to happen, really appreciated the REAL "scary thing" at the very end. Foreshadowing for later? Just a usual scary episode finisher? Whatevs.
! Seems the running plot point of this season will be to open the magical chest. Pretty cool., I always love when the show sticks to its continuity. Makes it feel more than just some cartoon. -

just gonna leave this here…
whoa! what volume is this? If this is from the comic i think it is…

AAAAAAGGHHH!!! I overslept today!!
Anybody got an online version?

Thank you!
! This was a cute episode. That's really the only word for it: Cute. Well, cute and funny, I suppose. An episode that got all of the Mane 6 involved, which was nice, since I feel like it's been a while since we've had an episode like that that wasn't a big season opening/ending. Please tell me that the Ghost will come back.
! One thing though: Are they seriously going to go with the diary route? When I heard the word "diary" my eyes nearly rolled into my head. Letters are one thing, but diaries are getting into the tweeny girl territory. Dear God No. -
Omg guys I LOVED the episode yesterday :D Things are looking bright for the new season!
Btw it's really nice seeing Twilight starting to use her wings naturally to aid her in her "habit" :P
! Although I Definitely called it for Pinkie in the end.
! One thing that I absolutely love in season 4 so far is the continuity of the plot. From premiere to do with the locked chest -> Twilight searching for more answers in the abandoned castle -> we ended the episode with some shadowy person whose identity will hopefully soon be uncovered.
! I mean, I do like the spontaneity of plots sometimes to do with episodes, but having one fluid plot where the last episode connects to the next is really interesting and exciting.
! Also - anyone thinking the abandoned castle of the sisters probably being renovated and Twilight ending up living there? It's perfect, walking distance from Ponyville!–- Update From New Post Merge ---
! @Satsuki:
! > One thing though: Are they seriously going to go with the diary route? When I heard the word "diary" my eyes nearly rolled into my head. Letters are one thing, but diaries are getting into the tweeny girl territory. Dear God No.
! >! Omg I know right? My first thought was "oooh I see, the staffers probably were thinking of a way to continue to end episodes by each character talking about what they learned, and since letters to Celestia are no more, it's just a self-diary now. Don't like." -
! One thing though: Are they seriously going to go with the diary route? When I heard the word "diary" my eyes nearly rolled into my head. Letters are one thing, but diaries are getting into the tweeny girl territory. Dear God No.
! I'm sorry, but this sounds more like a personal problem on your end. Since when are diaries only for tween girls?
What about all those adult musicians, historians, authors, war veterans, etc? Are they girly or immature for writing their thoughts down on paper? That's what the purpose of a diary IS.
I never understood the stereotype you're so heartily endorsing. A diary could be for anyone.
Hell, even I had a diary at one point.
! Also, Twilight refers to it as a journal. Like i said, it's the SAME damn thing as a diary.
I find it funny that you call it a route, like it's a radical change.
! Exchange Celestia with a piece of paper. GASP! We've been writing diary entries since season 1!!!!
100% serious here, this is a total non-issue and i'm surprised at the automatic assumptions the word 'diary' has given you.
Also, does it even matter? Tween girls are the target audience after all, and this isn't THAT different from the letters…
And the show isn't in danger of getting too safe. In this episode we had a hallway of disembodied pony legs, afterall.
! Not getting on at you or anything, i just take objection to your reaction and i want to let my thoughts be known. -

I ranted without thinking. I just always worry about the show skewing younger and younger, and the diary thing made me twitch. Some writers can write it completely to girly-girly stereotype, others won't. I suppose I should have more faith in the MLP writers.
-
! I didn't really mind the diary introduction at all. I doubt it will be an intrusive element in the show and I think it was just a way to continue the "moral of the day" wrap-up for each episode.

Hello, I am Aru and I REALLY liked how season 4 started. The beginning was a little 'meh' with some jokes thrown too hard, but the rest was pretty nice. It's great they finally put some legendary artifact and stopped using the deus-ex machina of Harmony.
Will I watch the show? Maybe, sometimes… I'm certainly much more hyped about it than I was after seeing the beginning of season 3. -
Loved the new Episode.
! So Daring Do is real. Liked seeing her and RD team up plus Twilight and Co. helping out as well. LOL'd when Daring Do injured her leg and they're all standing outside and Fluttershy goes "Should we go help her?" and then everyone's like "oh! yeah." XD.
Can't wait for the next one.
-
Wait the new new episode's out already ?

I was playing the MLP kindle app, and a pop up window advertising Prince Blueblood came up. (You have to purchase characters before they can appear in your village)
Though upon reading his description, it says
"Prince Blueblood may be of noble background, but he's also quite vain – which is no doubt why Rarity once had a crush on him."Did they really just say that? Rarity was royally pissed off and hurt by his overbearing selfish vanity, and grew increasingly resentful of his behaviour throughout the evening.
They're suggesting that his vanity was the REASON Rarity liked him? Bitches best be trollin'.
Their ignorance is an insult against Rarity's character IMO.EDIT:
Oh, the new episode is available?
Excellent, i'll get it downloaded right away. -

Cool, Jan finally finished this. Watched the animatic for it way back when. Looks really nice.

It's here.
Just finished. It was good, but I feel like the sheer number of references I don't get diminishes it a bit for me. Same goes for the previous two.

I liked the scenes of Twilight and Rainbow Dash fangasming but meh episode otherwise. Daring Do is an insufferable character, she was much better in Rainbow's fantasies when she didn't talk.
-
! Hmmm…
! I really liked this episode, although I did think the last episode with Daring Do (where Dash was in the hospital) was meh. Daring Do might come off as too aloof or something like that, but picture it guys: she has badass adventures a la Indiana Jones, and writes about them. They're practically biographies! So for that, I could appreciate the mystery and adventure aura of this week's episode.
! Dash's overfangirling wasn't endearing all the time, but it was amusing to see her and Twilight (both Do book nerds) argue about what to do next.
! The big finishing scene where the ponies kicked ass, shattered rings, and escaped a crumbling temple…..I'm sorry, I loved that. And while I felt the writers should've dialed back Dash's obsession a bit, I had no real complaints. -
! Good episode but whathisname kinda came off as a forgettable villain. Still having one mid series is a huge leap.
! I found it odd how Twillight didn't tell Dash that, ya know, this isn't a book or a minor social faux pas they can walk away from but an actual honest to god case of someone getting kidnapped by a bad guy who wants to use magical doodads to wreck shit up and stopping that is kind of in Twilight's job description now.
! They weren't treating it like a big deal at all when it totally was one.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Granted she had only a few lines this episode.
About the only major flaw with this episode beside that scene I mentioned before is how DD didn't get any characterisation at all.

So, the new episode…
! Have I mentioned that I'm not crazy about CMC episodes? Their episodes just tend not to have a whole lot of substance to them, and after four seasons they've become kind of predictable. This episode especially fell back on the usual plotline of "The CMC try to do some kind of talent-oriented task, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon try to mess them up because they're petty, and the CMC ultimately overcome it and the lesson is learned and everything." Heck, plot-wise, this episode honestly did kinda seem like a rehash of Show Stoppers.
! Though this one line was pretty amusing: "What can we do? We already called them blank flanks!"
! Not that I hated this episode. It did have some genuine emotional moments and the song was pretty good, but other than that it was just decent. Weakest of the season so far for me. -
^Pretty much.
! Interesting to see the writers finally do the "Scootaloo can't fly" plotline….although it makes Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon seem that much more petty for mocking her because of it. But hey, that doesn't matter! Hard work and teamwork is the best!
! Again, a great moral, but....the episode was a tad predictable. Doesn't mean the song wasn't awesome and really catchy, and the emotional moments good.....just predictable, y'know? I wonder if the CMC will ever get their cutie marks, or will it be a "always working but never getting" kinda thing, like Spongebob's license.
! ....Anyways, not a bad episode by any means, just.....predictable.
! Although seeing the ponies as superheroes in next week's promo has me hyped -
You guys could tell us when a new episode comes out ya know :O

Thank you!
! Really liked this episode. Although like it's been said, it's pretty much a reshash of the standard CMC formula, it finally used the plot point of Scootaloo not being able to fly that Lauren Faust wanted to use for so long. Which, for a rehash, was a pretty good one to use. An episode addressing a pony with a disability, so to speak.
! It helped that it had a really really catchy song. Damn earworm! -
Okay that was good.
! I wonder, can Miss Harshwiny (however you spell that) possibly look more disgusted by having to even be in the same room with a bunch of children ?
! Also, is this the only school in the world ? Why exactly is the selection process limited to one school in Ponyville, which, well, isn't exactly a bustling metropolis to say the least. Are there no schools in Canterlor, or, ya know, the Crystal Empire (which is a weird way to reffer to a single town continously, maybe just give that town a name ?) or anyplace else ?
! Also a little dissapointed we didn't see any of the other's routines, that sort of gave away that they were probably going to win anyway. -
! It was okay. I thought it started off okay until those bullies came and needlessly bought up the whole issue with the Crusade not having Cutie Marks. While it was brushed off really quickly, the second assault(you can't fly) felt somewhat wasted as I knew what was going to happen.
! I'm still waiting got a Crusade episode where atleast one from the trio gets a mark. But I dunno how long they can keep this forumula up for. Either, I liked the songs in the ep. Not as great as some of thier other musicals, but still fun. -
@No:

! Miss Harshwinny specifically said it was for the flag for Ponyville, there are flags for other cities. Rainbow Dash said when she was a foal she carried the flag for Cloudsdale. So yes, there are other schools in each city.
! It's like in the Olympics when there's the march of the nations where the athletes parade around the arena. One of them is holding up the flag. I guess in this case they have foals holding the flag.! I'm still waiting got a Crusade episode where atleast one from the trio gets a mark. But I dunno how long they can keep this forumula up for.
! I dunno, one of them getting their cutie mark would kind of break the whole point of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. But they might try to focus just more on the trio and leave Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon the hell out of it. Or use them in a different way.
-

Okay I must have missed that then !
! Mind you it's a bit weird how they'd ship them all the way to the CE to decide who'se gonna carry the flag for their tiny little town in the middle of nowhere, especially if she was there to begin with. If they do that for every participating city then that must get expensive.
! Also still doesn't change the fact that Harshwinny could have shown a little more enthusiasm and a little less disgust when talking to the kids :P
! I hope they actually show these Games since they were built up since last season.
! Also, three episodes since the end of the season opener and nothing revealed about those keys….I really do hope they don't just rush through to the solution in the last two episodes of the season.
