To be honest I don't like year long time skips too much for the sake of raising the power plateau.
I think one of the most enjoyable things about shonen in general is seeing people struggle through hardship, struggle for strength and then when we get the payoff in a fight it feels really satisfying.
When you do a time skip just to show hey these guys are now on this level where they can compete with the arbitrary power creep you created yourself there seems to be an awkward moment of pacing as in that it's really hard to built tension for some time.
You have to show some results of the timeskip otherwise you run into the problem that was the naruto timeskip which felt super pointless on a narrative basis.
But at the same time you want to built tension you want to build struggle which conflicts with the goal to show off power.
If your characters struggle too hard people again wonder what they've been doing during the time skip aren't they supposed to be strong enough to handle their shit?
We see the result of how that looks like in One Piece where the fishman arc really lacked a lot of tension on these one off battles, it was good that oda finished all those skirmishes fast but still it creates this unnatural flow in the suspension arc.
That said I think a timeskip can have its purpose but just to raise the powerstakes and skip some painful growing just doesn't feel very satisfying. I prefer seeing characters grow naturally throughout the story.
This all very much mostly relates to how I perceive battle shonen. I think there is a different nuance if you were to do a timeskip in a sportsmanga for example. I also understand if people just don't care for built-up some just like the adrenaline filled shots of awesome. So different preferences might make it very easy to discard anything I said.
