Kenshiro Souma reminds me of the french dub of Hokuto no Ken where the VA completely destroyed the names of the techniques ("Hokuto" -> "Au couteau de cuisine" = kitchen knive).

Caught up to this manga, and I was seriously not expecting it to be this good. Great art (though generic), some very good humour, brilliant foodgasms, a likeable main cast, and the enjoyment of it is surprisingly better than the sum of its parts.

In a Shokugeki there're special rules, you can either win something or lose too much. It's risky, so no, I don't think a new Shokugeki will come anytime soon unless there's an extremly good reason to hold one.
You can see the confidence in the evil grin of that unnamed girl, she has something in mind and high confidence to dethrone the princess.

I just caught up with the manga. One thing is for sure, the author clearly has a hentai manga shelf in his workplace where he takes all this crazy orgasmic shots from.

Of course he's going to play to his strengths for those shots. Some can even read this in a new light with that knowledge.

Ohh i didn't know that. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to hentai (being a girl and all) and i don't know a lot info regarding this manga. I'm definitely one of those who will read this in a new light after this.

@MadieV: Well, considering this manga is new and will last a while, you won't find much info on the net. Though people will need to check these first 30 chapters to get a feel of this. All the info we're getting comes from the manga itself. And maybe some character data book down the line.
You can say that all the info one might seek say, in 6 months, will be found in the chapters we read so far and the ones that'll come for the next weeks.

I dont think we have seen that many regular classes. There are as well pretty many students now for every year, (I dont think we have seen most of the polar students in the regular classes either)

I don´t think it´s a severe blow or anything. Souma looked like he already had the idea when he entered the hall but his dish probably takes a bit more time than the others. Takumi and Megumi were just shocked because Souma, who normally is the fastest together with Takumi, so the situation is unusual. To me, the last page seemed like Souma is trying hard to stay patient.

He was not at all familiar with a buffet style, where one of the most important criteria is food LASTING in room temperature.
He overlooked the fact the dish he made quickly deteriorates if not eaten right away.

! Yeah, with this chapter in mind we now know why Souma looked the way he looked last week. That's the same thing that we saw with Tadokoro: Present a last panel in which things look about to go to hell, only to show us in the next chapter how things got to that point and how that situation can be reversed. I guess we should keep that in mind for the future. I just hope Yuuto uses that card sparingly from now on. Things might get a tad predictable otherwise. And as it is turns my take on that panel was way WAY off base,and Souma's predicament wasn't caused by a deficiency while plating his dishes as some speculated on other sites. I can live with that. It was made a few hours after the release though, you can blame it a bit on the post-release hype I guess ?
! And that new girl is not ordinary, whatever she plans to do she has the skills to back her schemes up. She showed us why we should properly consider her Erina's rival -
! Knew that when Soma first starts to falter, it would be for creating food that's different from his "special of the day" shop. Just didn't make the connection to the difference in buffet style food and longevity. Soma was always gonna pass but good to know Soma's human and can recover quickly when things go douth.

Other than that, this was a good chapter. I really liked the three egg dishes done by the (unnamed?) pale looking girl, those were interesting.

My tongue is still in knots just looking at the term 'sunny side up' deployed in the most awkward of sentences. Whyyyyyy . . .
It was ncie to see Soma falter a little, and to see others a little ahead for once :p Soma's experience being entirely limited to made-to-order cooking blinded him a little, but he's clever.
That girl with the fake egg dishes … she emptied over 200 eggs in such a way that she could fill them up with a milkshake ... not to mention how fiddly her other dishes are. That sounds like hours and hours of really tedious work to me. If they are so popular they run out, she won't possibly be able to make them up at the same rate as they're being taken, right?

Edit: it's funny how commenting on this series isn't as easy as it looks like most of the time. There are chapters that tug at your heartstrings or ones that leave you guessing as to how it might continue but how am I supposed to comment on the cooking? Well, in my case, I understand the terms and I'm actually picky about what I eat (texture and stuff that the manga focus on), but I suck at cooking, so I just feel there's no reason for me to comment on that :P
Anyway, Alice, yeah… I guess she's going to be the antagonist for a while. I actually never saw Erina as the main antagonist anyway, since she's to a certain degree a tsundere, but maybe I'll be proven wrong. -
Hehe nice, Soma pulled through that brilliantly. Can't win em with just the food? Then make a show to lure them in.
Alice seems like one of those analytical types, observe and figure she has the best solution. I like the contrast of the man in the suit observing the situation and then her little opinion. In other words, a know it all with something to prove =P. So my theory is either Alice and Erina was the favored sibling and the other is just trying to play catch up. I'm gonna guess Erina since that would make for an interesting twist.

Lot of fan girl bait with the sweating Soma. Heck, by the end of it I started developing a crush on the guy (more than I already have…) but this was a great Soma's badass chapter. And definitely why this succeeds, you like the main character and following his story.
Plus, once again, it's the little touches that make the manga. I laughed when he's trying to lure the little girl into his booth. And the look at Erina afterwards was pretty funny.
