It's not your thing then.
My mistake, I checked right now and I watched up to Jojo vs. the pillar man, which was episode 13. Does your answer still apply?

If you made it to part 2 and still don't like it at all, then it probably safe to say so,yeah.
Someone can go and correct me on this, though.
Well both part 1 and 2 are cliché because they're old, just like Kinnikiman. Also the manga is meant to be over the top, but man you not being into awaken my masters is kinda sad.
Anyways part 3 is pretty different from the other ones, it's still over the top but it gets more unique with a new power system and its fights are a delight to read/watch.
if you don't have a problem with reading it i suggest you to do so, then if you don't like it really isn't meant for you.
Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency seem cliched because they largely helped invent those cliches.
And there are no "bad" parts of Jojo, just parts of Jojo that don't have Funny Valentine in them.

A lot of people share your opinions on part 1, but part 2 usually gets away with its flaws by being entertaining and having loads of surprises. But since you're not impressed by part 2 so far either, I'm not quite sure what to tell you. I'd still watch the anime until the end since you're half done anyway, and if you still don't like it by then, don't bother reading further.
@ Cyan: Can I use that second sentence as my signature?
I'd say read the manga! Even read Part I. The manga is much better. The anime was a disappointment ( i'm a big Jojo fan but i didn't like the anime).

Part 2 is Joseph Joestar onwards, then? I did enjoy that more than part 1, so …
I'll take Dumhuvud's advice and finish part 2 before deciding on reading the manga.
The anime is really over the top because that's what the manga is best known for, and it was probably meant that way to appeal to the fans who enjoy it (the cult following you mentioned).
Try reading the manga. The first part is just 5 volumes long. If you really don't enjoy it, then it's just not your thing.
I think the anime is probably better, at least for new fans.
It really doesn't matter IMO, since the anime is faithful to the point where it boils down to which medium you prefer. The anime lacks some scenes (such as the mustard nazi) but it has great music and awesome hot-blooded voice acting.
Watching the Phantom Blood anime made me realize how weird it is that Dio ended up evil, and Jonathan ended up good.
I mean, Speedwagon kind of explains it away with "He's been evil since he was born!" But that's a poor excuse.

Do as you will.

Are you doubting Speedwagon's sense of smell ?

I can't fathom what you mean by that… what's weird about it?
Dio was always a sociopath, the mask just made it worse.
Well if you go and poison your dad, burn dogs alive and try to gouge people's eyes before you are 15, there's a strong posibility that you are a bad person.
Also, in Manga vs Anime, I'd say at least for part 1 and 2 is a tie. Excelent music and animation, the team is faithful to the manga, and keep all the fun parts.

Dio had an abusive father and a harsh childhood that required him to do whatever was necessary to provide for himself.
Jonathan had a fine childhood, both before and after Dio showed up, with only the first few weeks that Dio was around being the exception. He had a father who was as moral as they come, who could teach him well in the ways of the gentleman.
I think it makes perfect since.

Except in real life, those who suffer hardships are usually better people than those who don't/didn't.
Compare to Parts 4, 5, and 6.
Generally speaking, kids who put dogs in furnaces aren't mentally or morally sound.

Which was basically the reasoning that Speedwagon gave, and I guess that most of the JoJo villains had… Problems.
Cars and Funny didn't now that i think about it, one just wanted to live under the sun and the other was a pure patriot.
Pretty sure Speedwagon's point was that had Dio truly been just a poor boy from a poor family, he would have taken a liking to his new family at some point during the, what, 7 years they lived together, as opposed to trying to murder them.

Hm, maybe that's why Valentine seems more evil to me.
Anyway, new question: I was looking at JoJolion stuff, and I noticed that the protagonist's name is actually written differently from Josuke's. For comparison, this is the Part 4 Josuke: 仗助. And this is the Part 8 Josuke: 定助. Why is this? Is there a difference in pronunciation?

Suddenly, all the Queen references in this series make sense. Mind = Blown.
Funny wasn't evil, he was the greatest president ever.

Perhaps to differentiate the two, like how Johnny is "Johnny" and not "Jonathan"

Not much use to us English-speaking fans. xD
Oh well.

That infodump SEX=USELESS page said something about Cars's new goal being the shaping of the world to his own liking or something along these lines.

A generalization:there are exceptions. And excessive hardship in formative years can very often break a person for years to come.

No, Cars was very evil. Why would the Ripple Users attack him if he wasn't…wait a minute.
I wonder if the original Ripple users were specists...
Hm, maybe that's why Valentine seems more evil to me.
Valentine, evil? His goal was for the good of his country. He'd bring prosperity to millions at the direct cost of a handful of lives. He might have been amoral, but he wasn't evil.

Hey, that's what the beings at the top of the chain do.
Aren't we humans shaping the world to our own liking ?

Survival for the fittest yo.

Sauza was saying that Kars and Valentine were the only villains who were mentally sane.
Sauza was saying that Kars and Valentine were the only villains who were mentally sane.
Ah, wonder how that got past me. The word "insane" doesn't have a definite meaning, but according to Merriam Webster insanity is "The inability to anticipate and appraise the effects of one's actions." By that definition they were all quite sane.

You just weren't raised a true gentleman
Johnny regretted killing Valentine and robbing the US's chance to become a super power 50 years early until the day he died.
I just read the raw, and the translation, and this is, uh… well, can't say I'm all that surprised, knowing Araki.
@Cyan:

Where did you get that idea? Johnny is a very selfish guy.
Well nobody can say Dio was one to give up lol. In theory if he was just evil from being mistreated he would have done a heel turn at some point. Instead he let the hate flow and rode that wave even into a different parallel Universe. Diego was the only incarnation that was more, just selfish and not evil.
Cars was definitely evil. Though it still makes me chuckle that he didn't spare at least one female of his kind when he went on his slaughter. But I guess if you're immortal and thought you were the best of the best there would be no point in risking having a child that might turn out better.

Evil in early years can fester and grow, to the point where future kindnesses are only seen as advantages to grab hold of. You don't have to be inherently evil to remain unchanged in the face of kindness.

What part of "Sex=Unneeded" do you not understand?

Who needs women when you've got three other fabulous men to beat off the loneliness?

Er okay?
What part of "Sex=Unneeded" do you not understand?
I'm not sure why you posted that again. Not really sure why you quoted me at all actually lol. I don't think I really said anything that was vastly different…
Does the mutsukabe shrine have anything to do with the One-Shot "Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: mutsukabezaku?"
Not much use to us English-speaking fans. xD
Oh well.
There are three Dio's as well. Part 1 is "ディオ", Part 3 (until Part 6) is "DIO" and Part 7 is "Dio".
Valentine, evil? His goal was for the good of his country. He'd bring prosperity to millions at the direct cost of a handful of lives. He might have been amoral, but he wasn't evil.
I think that final standoff proved his character. He made a promise on his father's handkerchief, one with deep personal significance to how he formed his life. he swore up and down that Johnny and his friends would be saved.
and yet, he broke this oath in order to kill Johnny and gain the corpse. Johnny was right not to trust him.
and if you can't trust a man when he swears on his father's legacy, then how can you trust him to take the most powerful object in the world and use it for altruistic purposes?
I guess he wasn't really "evil", but I think Araki was trying to show us that he wasn't a "good person" either.
Hey, Johnny was stupid enough to give him a gun.
and if you can't trust a man when he swears on his father's legacy, then how can you trust him to take the most powerful object in the world and use it for altruistic purposes?
Thing is he'd have done anything for his country, the means justify the ends.
He was like a parent that will do dirty work for the sake of a child's well being.

Don't you mean「evil」and 「good person」
Valentine might have meant well, but I think he'd eventually grow crazy with power and become a dictator.
You will never understand what true patriotism is.
I was going to object, but you're actually correct.
So i just finished reading stardust crusaders and I have to ask… Then ending, the way it ends... Is there a real reason why the final fight ends the way it does or is this another case of "because Araki"?
Star Platinum reached it's full potential.
