So, according to adult swim's FB page, tonight's episode is actually the half-season finale. Should be a good'un, too…
Venture Brothers

Based on the production order, this is the 10th episode of the 10-episode season five. Season six will probably come sooner, but unless they secretly lengthened the order this is it for this season. VB was renewed for a 10-episode season five and another 10 episodes for season six.
-
I don't even know, but I'm pumped! Five minutes and counting!
-
Nice mid season finale.
-
That was phenomenal. And it is the mid-season? I'm really confused.
-
Gah, I need more of this right now! I just wanna know about the story behind that damn photo.
-
Yep. That was a great (mid)season finale.
! And really, with that lingering photograph and now the Monarch moving into his parents place, I wonder if the next season (or remainder of the season) will finally reveal the history between The Monarch and Dr. Venture.

CALLED IT!
I'm not always right, but I'm SO glad I was this time.
-
It's not a mid-season finale. That was the season finale. Doc and Jackson confirmed at Comic Con they are writing season six now. They settled for two shorter seasons to, ironically, make them come out faster. Perhaps it was the switch to Titmouse for animating that led to some delay, but I think six should come out faster.
As for the finale itself it seemed pretty meh up until the last ten minutes. That's when it got really good. And good on Hank for tell Dean to stop being a pansy.

Come to think of it, this is the first one-part season finale we've had since Season 1. And it was definitely smaller in scope in that nothing really major happened, except, I guess you could say Monarch's house and cocoon were destroyed (again) and now Hank knows that they're clones.
Still, all around, a pretty solid season, only….
8 episodes and only one brief appearance from Dr. Orpheus?! Shame!
-
This is the Facebook post from AS leading to the confusion:
With Rusty dead and gone, whose life will the Monarch ruin now? Find out tonight in the half-season finale of The Venture Bros., tonight at midnight.
Yeah, I say it should be taken with a grain of salt. Everything is pointing to this being it for the season, even the official bumber before the episode said it was the last new episode.
-
According BleedingCool, who documented the Comic-Con VB panel, the true season 5 finale will be the first episode of season 6, with last week's episode merely setting it up…
-
Yep. And were getting an art book.
-
That was awesome. Omg.
-
Yep. And were getting an art book.
Although we don't have a release date, I'm really excited for that.
-
A few things to say about the (mid-)season finale;
! - Somehow, I was not at all surprised that Hank reacted that way to learning he and Dean are clones. In fact, I feel like I should have been expecting it.
- I'm kind of disappointed about what's happened to Gary now, being back with the Monarch just like that. I liked how he had cut himself loose and was striking out as his own man, even if he was unsure about what direction to go. This feels like a step back for his character.
- Isn't Action Man due to die from a stroke soon, as predicted by Orpheus in season one? He said about two years, if I recall, and I think it's been about that long. Have the creators forgotten about that, or is Dr. O just a lousy fortune teller?
So I'm left with some odd quandaries, but obviously I still loved it, and the while short-but-sweet season in general.
-
I'm still just sort of in awe that they made a random Mike Oldfield joke.
-
My only issue when it comes to
! Gary going back to the Monarch is that… there was like no reason. U get that it was supposed to be the whole "he thinks he was betrayed by Hatred" but it didn't get a chance for us to believe he was believing it... and I feel like he's smarter than that.
! I can't believe 21... the fat henchmen from season one... is now one of the smartest character in this show. -
I guess they opted to play that cliche straight, especially after Gary avoided getting subdued by his fellow henchmen (which I really enjoyed). Maybe Gary decided to stick around because he has a defined purpose in the cocoon, as opposed to when he was crashing on the Venture property. Think about it, the only people who didn't treat him as a nuisance at the Venture compound were the three brothers, and Gary's got at least 10 years on them. He also wasn't allowed to join O.S.I. and his tenure as Sphinx's leader was very short-lived. Add on the fact that he and Monarch apparently had a tight relationship (nerding out together), and it makes sense why he'd go back. I wouldn't have minded Gary and Hatred bonding some more, maybe teaming up to guard the Venture family, but I'm okay with him going back to his role as Henchman 21…

It's about time!

Clip teasing tonight's episode (in spoiler tags since it's an actual scene)
!
-
Am honestly really excited for the new episode tonight. Part of me wants to rewatch Season 5 in anticipation of it, because apparently this is the ACTUAL season finale for S5 despite it airing as basically the start of S6
-
Holy shit how does this show keep getting better and better?
-
There is one more thing that sets up Season 6.
http://www.adultswim.com/videos/the-venture-bros/the-venture-bros-special-epilogue/
-
!
Because the Adult Swim website sucks.
Whoops, didn't count on that being the default image for the video.
-
Hour long episodes are just how this show should be, both times they've done it have provided their best stuff.
I mean, if we're only going to get a short season anyway…
-
I'm pretty pumped for Season 6. That was awesome. Sad for Jonas Junior though.
Also good to see Colbert back as Mr Impossible.
-
Well, that was pretty much the best thing ever.
-
I lost it at the Killenger fight. This show is so damn good.
-
That was an amazing special. More, please!
-
Indeed…worth the wait. :) But when are we getting more, anyway?
http://www.wired.com/2015/01/venture-brothers-special/
Gosh, they sure did sweep the deck quite a bit. But that's what I like, nothing is sacred.
-
Siting here in the Venture panel at DragonCon, both creators of the show are here and they dropped a few tidbits of knowledge. First things, the premiere date was set yesterday for February 7th.
And not only that, they dropped that if they get their seventh season pickup they want it out faster. Granted they've said that before but it seems like they don't have plans to stop anytime soon.
Outside of that, we got a new trailer and a few clips. I'm sure they'll be online soon enough.
-
They always say they want shorter gaps. And they just end up taking longer to make less.
Next February the show will have been running for 13 years and they'll be starting their 6th season.
Season 4 was split in half to spread over two years, and then it still took them three years to get to season 5. And it'll have been three years since that when season 6 starts. ANd both of those only 8 episodes instead of 13.
(Okay, they've released a special in that gap that mI guess counts as a 9th and 10th episode.)
I'm glad they try to keep the quality high and all, but its kind of ridiculous at this point.
-
Have they ever related what the hold-up usually is? Or is it something different every time?
-
Have they ever related what the hold-up usually is? Or is it something different every time?
The excuse is that its just the two guys doing all the writing and directing and they want to keep the quality up. ANd okay, that's something but there's a line somewhere.
They've also used the excuse that CN doesn't give them heads up they're renewed for a new season until after production is over, so the machine isn't constantly running. Which might be true , you're supposed to have writing on the next season started while the animation is going on the previous season… but if those guys are busy doing directing then they aren't writing anyway. (And they could write in their downtime to get basics down, even before confirmation.)
But, it doesn't quite add up since CN greenlights and renews other shows constantly, and generally any show that's going to be renewed knows within a couple of weeks of their new season airing, if not way sooner if the network is pleased enough with the product. . Aqua Teen has annual production, and Ben 10 got to like 200 episodes in 6 years, and Adventure Time is on a constant renewal process.
So, even with that, why only 8 episodes every 3 years at this point? Its not even the 13 every 2 years it used to be. Why is CN so hesitant to greenlight one of their better received longrunning shows? Because it's expensive?
Or is it because the two guys in charge are really slow and takes three years to make 8 episodes, so CN isn't willing to give them a budget until they finish the previous batch?

Yeah, I don't get it. But, what can you do….but wait.
At least there's Rick and Morty now.

Season six trailer:
-
Latest trailer. Jan 31st. save the date.

Finally it's almost here omg
-
First episode just aired:
! Well, I think that ep was a bit of a mess. It's compensating for a big transition, but way too many things to handle at once. Maybe they're changing up the pacing because they have so few episodes for a more ambitious arc? If this was in an earlier season, this could have been at least two or three episodes (4 if you include one about the move).
! That said, there were some solid gags and it will be interesting to see where this goes, mostly since I can't imagine Dr. Venture standing on top for longer than the rest of this season. Not sure I like the development with Dr. The Mrs. Monarch and Wide Whale. Feels kind of ick. If this were in an earlier season, they'd play it as a joke, but now it just feels beneath the Mrs.' character.
! I guess what bothers me the most is how direct the transition was for all of the main characters. The Doc, Hank and Dean all adopted new persona really quickly and it doesn't feel so natural. It would have really helped to have an episode to even gloss over this like the season 4 and 5 openers, where the Bros. changed, but we got to see them growing into those changes a little.
! I've got really mixed feelings on this season opener and I guess it comes down to if the next episodes justify it. I'm hoping these changes end up being worth it, since the process getting here with the Gargantua 2 special was so good. -

I was thinking on this too and I feel that the intent of the scene with Wide Whale was to make the audience think he was talking about sexual favors, but really wanted to Arch on Dr. Venture. It's just that the pacing of the episode threw that off and made it less like a fakeout and more like a "less is more" confirmation of her "cheating" on Monarch.
"More people of color" gag KILLED me!
-
It wasn't the best start ever, but I enjoyed it. I didn't really feel like the pacing was too cramped, personally. Seems like the animation is better than ever, at least.

Adult Swim posted an online-only epilogue on Facebook

Anyway, season premiere was pretty good. I'm just glad to have Brock back on Team Venture.
-
H.E.L.P.eR is pretty cold-blooded.
Also they just can't help but throw pedophile jokes into Sgt. Hatred's storyline, can they?
-
What happened to Sgt Hatred's man-boobs?
-
You know what I hope comes of the Dr. Mrs. The Monarch plot? I hope it ends with her involved with killing Wide Whale. Not just because Wide Whale seems like a not good person, but I can honestly see something like that happening, since it would be a way for the guild to assert their dominance over the New York chapter. Right now, WW seems to be keenly aware of how much power he has over the guild's future and I think it will take a ruthless act for the guild to recognize the sovereignty of the 6/13. Killing an insubordinate hot shot would do just that, plus remove a new, previously unheard of character from having too much power in the VB-verse
-
I thought it was great but I'm just so glad to have the show back. I was also glad to see a lot of the stuff from the trailer all in that one episode.
