Doflamingo and the people of Dressrosa only have themselves to blame. The former for making deals with a worldwide criminal without stepping down from his position of ruler, consequently putting his people in potential danger in case something goes wrong with his business, and the latter for accepting having a criminal, Shichibukai or not, as their leader.

Ottoman's never "ruled the world". The emergence of anything even close never occured until the cold war, and even then there were two great superpowers. The Ottoman's were regional rulers of the middle east, and I don't believe they were undisputed even there. BUt you want to know who was really the most powerful nation for almost all of history? It was China. Don't say foreigners will never understand your greatness, especially if you can't use facts to back it up. ALl you're showing is that you've bought in to a load of propaganda and don't have an open mind. Let me guess, you're going off stuff you were taught in school? About what I expected. Oda wouldn't have brought it up if it would have no impact on Luffy, but it's never been like Luffy to get really emotional about these types of events, so I'd say his reaction was about on cue.

Yeah, I don't think I'd call how he's reacted to be surprising at all, including his offering it to Franky. The thing is, I was honestly a bit baffled that so many people were so vehemently on one side or another over whether he'd care about it, since to me, either way would have been in character for him. In that sense, I think how it's been playing out has been pretty much perfect, just like Zack says. In a way, both camps have ended up being right: Luffy isn't dismissing the fruit off-hand, and cares about it enough to want to win it so it doesn't go into the hands of some random stranger, but at the same time, he doesn't make so big a deal about it that he isn't willing to just off-handedly offer it to Franky like he did.
It really makes all the people that were doing the whole gloating, 'hey where are those idiots that predicted something the opposite of what I did now! hur hur' posts even more ridiculous than they would have been under more general circumstances, when you think about it that way.
