Rightstuf added the cover. Strange to see that Funi changed the side image of Sogeking to fit the side better.
How is that strange?

I just hadn't noticed it before. It looked better on the side.
They updated the description too guys, check it out!
Sanji is aided in his battle against the CP9 goons by the arrival of the mysterious Soge King, a wandering warrior from the Island of Snipers!
They're keeping it Sogeking!
Awesome to hear they're going with Sogeking! I would have been able to live with Sniper King but I've been saying Sogeking for 5 years now :)
Didn't notice that, either! AWESOME. Great news!
No idea why they wouldn't, it's his name. If he was Sniper King, King of the Snipers….well...that'd just be redundant. I think Funi deserves a bit more credit than that
What?!
They have Sogeking as two words instead of ONE?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU….
flips table
! jk jk I'm just fooling around. :P
Pretend that King is his last name!
So when do you guys think we'll be seeing S4 Voyage 5 released? Hopefully early again, before May 14th. Water 7 has so many cliffhangers, each set ends with a part I have to see next.
I'd expect it last week of April, first week of May TBH. That's how quickly we USUALLY get it early.
Pretend that King is his last name!
Well, those DVD summaries also keep calling Robin "Nico"…
Rightstuf is random with how early we get the sets. Voyage 2 we got almost a whole month early, wheras Voyage 3 was only a few days early. Voyage 4 came pretty early though.
I feel like the more we want a set the longer it takes to come.
Is Season 2 Voyage 5 getting less rare now? I just picked it up for $33 and had to pay an extra $14 for international shipping but it's still cheap compared to what others ask?
don't know if i should put thsi here but this is how i would dub WE GO! [yt]yVaHXqY13cY[/yt]
a mixed version from FUNImation would be great!
So the One Piece Podcast had Josh Kocurek, the One Piece Brand Manager, on their episode tonight. He's confirmed that they're releasing Season 5 starting in July of this year. Additionally, they just received the material for Strong World last month and they're aiming for a release by the holidays.
Season 5 in July. Just like I expected.
I hope a limited theatrical release of Strong World comes out earlier than the holidays. (I was expecting a summer/early fall release -_-)
With the current May release of S4V5, July as a release of S5V1 fits exactly with their usual release window.
By "just received the material", does that mean they just received the footage and scripts and such, and that no actual production for the movie has taken place thus far?
Which means they probably haven't cast Brook yet….

thats awsome news! 4 month's baby yeah!

That's exactly what it sounded like. Basically, Josh said that for the moment, their highest priority as far as One Piece goes is trying to get out new voyages every few months, which they plan on continuing for the foreseeable future. Strong World is something they are actively trying to dub, but getting out new voyages to us comes first. He did say that Mike McFarland had been working on scheduling time for the VAs to come in and record for Strong World, so I wouldn't be surprised if Brook is cast relatively soon.
He said he wants to start it in Skypeia. That's the worst cannon place to start it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
He eluded to there being more announcements that weren't announced. I'm pretty damn sure that leak was all true.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
We'll finally see one piece in true HD. That's something that escaped me with the toonami news.
Skypiea is not necessarily a bad place to start. For one thing, if they want to get into Water 7 on Toonami sooner than later, it makes sense to have the episodes where Robin is an active part of the crew first, to give the episodes where she leaves have more weight for the general viewing audience.
For another, whether it's entirely accurate or not, many people have at least the general idea of the first couple arcs because of 4Kids, plus the manga and movie 8; at the very least those arcs, if not in a wholly satisfactory manner, were completed on TV, whereas Skypiea was certainly not. With Neon Alley handling the beginning and the Collections being as cheap as they are, I think the further along they can pick it up on Toonami, the better.

I didn't really enjoy this at all to be honest…Why switch back and forth between the English and Japanese? And I found that most of the Japanese lyrics were butchered. I understand that it's another language but I'd suggest making sure you have the hirigana and the pronunciations from Hiroshi Kitadani's original down first before attempting something like this.
It's great that Season 5's coming to us in July instead of August though, we know they're far enough ahead to release it there but I thought they might've tried to put a little gap anyway.
Yeah. I can't wait for that first voyage!
I just don't think Skypeia is a very good arc. If someone had shown me that arc to start off with, it wouldn't have gotten me into One Piece. There's nothing (or little) in it that sets it apart from other shonen manga. Lots of fighting, little story. Sure, as you said, there are plenty of things that are set up in Skypeia with Robin and the Merry, but I'm looking at it as if I'm a new fan, and it just doesn't have anything that would capture my attention.
Plain and simple: If they're not starting at episode one, Foxy or Water Seven is the best place to start. Foxy might even be tricky if the fans are more action or story focused than comedy.
Starting at 207 is a bad idea in my opinion, because the first few minutes of 207 involes with the aftermath of Jaya. The only good spot to start with in my opinion is episode 1. And I would like to see new viewers to get to the see the series from the beginning and not being confuse.
In the interview, the guy mentioned 13-14 episode sets. I just realized that the only way Robin's past would all be on the same set is if it's a 14 episode set. Any chance of it, you think?
I dunno, I think that the best bet for Toonami would be to air One Piece from the beginning. However, if they chose to start later, normally I'd recommend starting with Baroque Works, actually. You have Whiskey Peak happening fairly quickly, which is a short arc with some really cool stuff going on and it puts you in Drum within half a year, so that means you've got a strong arc that displays the emotional chops this series can pull out, but because of the way that it's merged with the shitty filler, that won't happen. Starting with Jaya/Skypeia is actually a pretty solid idea. Even though it's not the strongest story arc in the series, it sets up a lot of pretty critical stuff for Season 4 - the terrible state of the Merry, Usopp's growing concern with it, and Robin starting to fit in with the crew. Establishing each of these is really important for when CP9 rolls around because these factors really strengthen the story and the impact it has on people.
What do you all think of the idea of starting with episode one on Toonami and then start streaming Season 4 dub episodes online?
196 is the episode they should start on! the G8 arc in my opinion shows off all of the best aspects on One Piece for a new viewer.
I still suggest the best idea is starting at season 4, it is just the best place for new fans and closest for old fans of the series to be able to enjoy the show also. New fans can catch up through the collections and character promo's FUNimation made last year.

What do either of the 2 have to do with each other? It just sounds kind of pointless to stream season 4 randomly because one piece is airing on Toonami.
Starting at Season 4 is just a bad idea, I mean the first episode of the season is the finale of the G8 arc, which makes no sense to start in the middle of arc like that. And the 2nd episode of the seasons starts right in the middle of the aftermath of the Jaya stuff with Bellamy. Which make no sense to new viewers that haven't seen the series before. I rather them starting at episode 1 so that new viewers can see the series from the beginning and understand stuff.
Also 4kids skipped over a lot of episodes that inculded the Laboon and Little Garden, which both arcs play major role in the story of the series later on. I just don't want to see people getting confuse about the show and stuff. I mean Naruto is starting from the beginning and it shouldn't be a problem for One Piece to start at the beginning.
Cool press release (kind of?) of One Piece on Toonami! It is fer sure comin' in April.

When they say Skypiea, do they mean starting at the same spot as when FUNimation's dub first aired? Hopefully they mean the spot where it left off. I remember I was stoked back then to hear "Bon Voyage" dubbed on Toonami during my spring break vacation in Florida back in '08, so maybe I can still live the dream since I'm headed down there around the time of _OP'_s comeback.
the problem with airing it from the beginning is that regardless of how good it becomes, it's still kind of a slow build up. Sure I like the beginning, and I stuck it out, but how can we say the same for the rest? The advantage however is that now those of the people who's opinion was swayed by the terrible 4 kids dub will now be able to see a proper dub uncut in all its glory. If in fact they are airing it at sky piea, it would appear that they don't have much confidence in the series as to start it in the beginning. Or they could be doing that as a service to those who want to move on, and for those of us who are aware of the series.
but, they risk alienating new viewers by doing so,not sure where to go from here.
Well, while the beginning is slow, it isn't exactly bad. The beginning of the anime is paced really, really well and even though the content isn't as good as some of the super cool stuff down the road, it's still pretty enjoyable. Most of the arcs are fairly short and the Arlong Arc starts just after episode 30-ish, which is where pretty much everyone says that One Piece got them hooked. I think that if they sandwiched it between Bleach and Naruto, the ratings would do fairly well just coasting on those viewers until it starts to pick up steam.
It's tough to say either way. Obviously the most important thing for Toonami is ratings. Starting at episode 1 maximizes the chances of bringing in new viewers, but long time fans will be less likely watch. Starting at Season 4 should definitely attract the existing fans, but anyone who's never seen the show will be left out of the loop. Which will bring the bigger numbers? New fans or older fans?
Personally, I'd like to see it start at episode 1. The more new fans the series attracts, the better - spreading the fandom and helping to increase DVD sales, ensuring a lasting future for Funimation's One Piece. I admit it's a bit of a slow start, but hopefully new viewers can understand that One Piece is an investment with an awesome payoff - there's a reason this series is so beloved by its fans.
I'm very happy to see OP coming onto Toonami in April, and at this point, I don't care where they start. Some say either: 1.) start at the beginning to attract new viewers, 2.) start at Jaya/Skypiea where we last left off, or 3.) start at Season 4. Personally, if I HAD to pick, I'd like to start off at Skypiea (not only because it's one of my favorite arcs, but it does set up a lot of the stuff we need to get invested in for Season 4, such as Robin's fitting in w/ the crew and Merry's condition). To those who say that starting at such a point would alienate people…we have a little something called the internet now. I've never known a person to simply get "alienated" from watching an episode in the middle of a series and then not watch it ever...especially when one can look it up in a second on Wikipedia. XP Besides, starting at Skypiea could also interest potential buyers into buying the Collections that lead up to it too. So, that's my 2 cents. I'm still gonna tune in and continue to buy the sets regardless. ^^

It makes sense if Toonami starts at episode one. To compensate for fans who want to watch new dub episodes they could watch the online stream of said episodes, while the TV broadcast would be at the beginning.
The fact that we're even sitting here discussing where they should start for when the series actually airs on US TV is still bewildering. Three years ago we couldn't even dream of having this convo or any of this even happening, heck, we didn't even know if OP would even survive past G8 over here. We've sure come a long way. I'm still pinching myself to make sure this is all real.
I mean Toonami kinda sorta tried this risk before when (after being absent for months) they started airing new episodes again from episode 144 (the FUNi dub) which I guess was a fresh start.
Plus back when Toonami came back half the shows that aired on the block were mid-season mid-series already. Plus if people watch whichever episode they start with, and like it, it might get them to check out more of the dub.
If they start from the beginning, they would greatly benefit from having 2 episodes shown. They should get rid of one of those Cowboy Bebop episodes and push the shows done to give room for One Piece to air 2 episodes every week. But that is wishful thinking, it'll never happen.

All it was was Season 3 of "One Piece". FUNimation's episodes followed a week after the last 4Kids episode played on Toonami. It wasn't a fresh start, they were just new episodes.

They were reruns of shows that had already been airing on adult swim action. And Toonami's revival was basically a revamp of adult swim action that officially came out a week after adult swim action block "ended". So that doesn't mean anything.
Actually, remember when Toonami previewed "Mar" and "Prince of Tennis" out of episode order? That didn't really work out very well.

I could've sworn that when they showed "MAR" and "Prince of Tennis" they did show the first episode(s). The only time I remember Toonami showing episodes outta order was during "Giant Robot Week". But then again, I have been wrong before. XP
I wouldn't mind them starting from the first episode, but the problem is Toonami's current format of airing 1 episode per week would work against the series since stuff doesn't really pick up until around episode 30-ish or so. The only reason Naruto's is starting from the beginning is because these episodes are being re-aired "uncut" for the first time and Disney still holds the rights to Shippuden. They didn't reset Bleach despite the long hiatuses so it makes sense if they want to avoid resetting One Piece.
But the basic problem is…
The current Toonami is not exactly the most appropriate format to run long running Shonen shows. It works for shorter series, but they really need a Mon-Fri thing going for anything over 52 episodes. Bleach gets a pass because it's been running continuously, but Naruto is kind of "just there" because Shippuden couldn't be acquired.
^ Yet in Japan most long running shonen series air only 1 episode a week. Granted they're brand new hot commodities over there, people manage. Same goes for the manga, I watched dozens of episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho that way, the funimation dub of One Piece is good enough that I think it could survive for a while at least on this Toonami block. Ideally if we could get two episodes a week somehow it'd get to the really good stuff faster but I'm patient. I just hope new fans turn in, also starting at episode 1 is still the best idea to get new fans hooked. Skypeia isn't a bad choice either because although Skypeia has its problems, the early Jaya stuff sets up a lot of world building and really lets Robin shine as a crew mate. I think its a lot easier to randomly jump into then Whiskey peaks arguably, though that'd be my second choice to start things off. IDK, yea episode 1 is always ideal, its hard to argue anything else is a better idea for new fans. The problem is will it stay on long enough to catch up?

You nailed it. This is why starting from episode 1 isn't the greatest idea. We'd all love it, but if we want One Piece to have any success on TV, we have to ask ourselves just how long we're willing to wait for people to get into it.
If they start around Season 4, they get longtime fans of the series that want to see new uncut english One Piece. New fans of the series have ample opportunities to catch up on their own time with streaming, as well as buying the collections on DVD. It worked for Viz with the manga speed-up.
'ninja edit' Are Funimation voice actors going to be at any Conventions or signings for the month of April? I've got to be in Dallas for almost then entire month for work and should be able to escape for some fun.
I think funimation will be very eager to start it around Skypiea and not at the beginning. This way as well as introducing new viewers to the series they can cash in and sell even more collections/voyages for people who desperately want to be up to date after seeing it. I live in the UK so i won't enjoy the luxury of seeing one piece on tv for many years if it ever happens, but i'm glad to see it making it's rightful comeback.
Ah-hahaha!
It seems I'll soon be able to import me some Water 7 DVDs! I just wish I could skip Voyage 2 because I don't care for the Filler Arcs, but I really want the Aokiji episodes and Kokoro & Chimney. The latter especially since it starts off the whole arc. Maybe it'll be more sensible to hold off til Voyage 5 comes out and bundle the four together, but I didn't want to wait til May to get them…
Perhaps in the meantime, I'll just finish off Skypeia.
I haven't caught up much in season 4 but is the swearing back to season 1 level? Do you guys think FUNi might go overboard again with the swearing in the future since One Piece will be dead set with the adult swim audience?
Not really. We haven't gotten anything as heavy as earlier Season 1 so I seriously doubt they'd see any reason to make the language any more adult than it already is in the latest releases, because it would just end up getting bleeped. In fact, for Deadman Wonderland they toned down the dialogue in the already-dubbed episodes because they saw how the bleeps in the broadcast version could be seen as distracting.
