The world is triggered…
-
No it's not. Its dreadfully generic.
-
Well, the protagonist is eh so far, but I do like Kuga.
-
Both chapters have been slow and dragged out for no reason because it seems that the author thinks that the readers are idiots.I mean how many bullies are going to get their asses kicked in just a few hours?
-
meh. I won't count it out yet. Nothing special about it so far, but the art is good and 4-eyes could be interesting.
-
I read the second chapter. It's kinda…eh. The face that short guy makes is strange for a default aloof face. Why are there so many asshats in this world? Wouldn't you have better things to do if there were weird aliens roaming around constantly eating people? Scamming people out of money is pointless.
-
The perpetual (=3=) is going to get annoying. Fast.
-
This manga would be better if there was no dialogue like a beat-em-up arcade game with random goons on every corner.
-
Hmm after reading the second chapter, I am starting to grow confused. Is this suppose to be a slice of life comic with minor action/adventure elements like Ass Class? When I read, "I'll teach you everything there is to know about Japan." It sounds like something typical out of a standard "new guy coming into Japan" slice of life story.
It is doing very little to bolster the whole "action/adventure" element of the story since a lot of this chapter (and the previous one) was invested in the new kid being intrigued in fitting into his new environment. Sure, we have few minor moments like him killing the monster in ch 1, the eye thing, and getting hit by a car (which this should be the focal point of the story rather than…having most of it being him awkward in Japan, but not in a funny endearing way either).
Yeaah I know Bleach did this whole slice of life thing too before becoming full on "Action/Adventure" story, but it (ironically) moved at a much faster pace than this. Likewise, early Bleach was much more likeable, established a bigger cast by ch 2, and a more interesting setup with the whole Shinigami thing.
Also...two groups of bullies in one chapter? Really? If they were to take anything from Bleach, how about doing a "monster of the week" thing until getting to the meat of the serie? This world at least lends the opportunity for this to happen. They could have shown this whole bit about him getting hit with a car (and recovering) through a monster battle at the end of this chapter.
Like with chapter 1, this chapter has pacing issues as well. It spent WAY too much time on the whole "I don't know how to use Japanese money bit". That should have been only 1-2 pages long and with only ONE toss-away bully.PS: I really hate this face > ( = 3 =)
Is it his default face? I swear he is shown doing ( = 3 =) more than his "normal" expression. It's as if the author doesn't know what other expression he should be giving this character. It screams "I'm a brat" more than anything, and it's not cute, endearing or funny. -
( = 3 =) …...Yeah I much more prefer One Punchman's default derp face over the weird duckface/pucker this kid has.
-
While not Takablah-ga-Hara tier slow, these first two chapters (along with the next few, I'm guessing) could've easily been blended into the first. It's this slowness that's gonna kill it.
We're probably gonna get the heroine in the next few chapters, but she'll probably be as bland as the rest of them.
Given the tripe still going (like Edison and Kiruko), it could potentially float like Kurogane and Medaka Box, but I don't see it lasting any longer than 50 chapters (and that's being REALLY generous).
Ashihara seems like one of those mangaka that could get really good later down the road, though; but might be better off in another magazine.
-
Third chapter.
More bullies got owned.
…..... seriously, DUDE.
I'm not even spoiler taggin' this shit.
(yeah, there's more to the chapter, but really. It's beyond getting old.) -
Guess the author got bullied as a kid and is now getting revenge in his story.
-
It'll be interesting to see it's ranking among the other titles.
-
The pacing in this comic is dreadful. Chapters 2 and 3 could have EASILY been just one chapter. Does this guy even have an editor?
Yeaaah, this author was probably harassed by bullies when he was a kid.
"Ha ha! That'll show those meanies to mess with a comic artist!" (= 3 =) -

Honestly I struggled to read the second chapter because it was so god damn boring. For the most part there just doesn't seem to be anything that sets the story apart from anything else in the magazine. The main characters boring, and their attempts at getting a laugh or two fall flat on its face.
If the first chapter had not been so bland and uninspired then I might have cut the series some more slack, but right now it doesn't seem to have a lot going for it at the moment. Hopefully it shapes up to be something more otherwise it's just gonna get sacked.
-
I like the other-worldly conflict, as well as hints of factions at war (=3=) hints about his homeland.
I like "aliens are war with each other and Earth is caught in middle of it" sci-fi stories. The problem is, 3 chapters in and we're only getting teased about it, and too many pages wasted on repeats of bullies getting stomped. I mean really, they went through FOUR bullies-get-owned incidents in 3 chapters, instead of cool alien shit.
-
Welcome to the my new series, where every chapter is exactly the same
-
God this shit is worse than Hungry Joker, at least that guy is trying. Probably
Hungry Joker is making this look like a master piece so far.
-
Hungry Joker is making this look like a master piece so far.
I wouldn't put it like that, but yeah it is certainly making HJ look better by comparison.
At least HJ tried something "different" (albiet it sucks at doing it), but WT is nothing but recycled, confused content from other shounen/action titles (heck, even the title font is a rip from something else). Also it seems like the author doesn't even know what type of story he is going for. If you are going to write a sci-fi story, you don't have three chapters focused MOSTLY on beating up high school bullies (that is reserved for something like a slice of life story) and only about 8ish pages (out of the three chapters) showcasing your alien monsters (their designs aren't all that interesting either). Why does the author feel the need to keep bringing the bullies back into the story? Does he intend on turning the leader into a sort of Ryunosuke (Shaman King) character later? Or is he suppose to be our damsel in distress since we have yet to run into any prominent female leads so far?
So far they've only been punching bags. We get it! Bullies are bad and lame! Stop wasting panels and show us something more "science-fiction/action-esque".
-
After reading chapter 3, yea it's a pain that the bullies were mentioned yet again, but there wasn't that much time spent on it. And in it's defense, they allowed the readers to learn a bit about how Border operates and let the main leads interact with other people (though that could easily have been handled differently too).
The poor pacing and lack of any substantial info gained from reading this chapter was way worse.
It might have even been okay if the main characters and their ineractions were interesting/likable, but their meh at best and the glasses guy hasn't had nearly enough spotlight.

I haven't read the 3rd chapter yet. Was there more ( = 3 =)?
It seems weird to me that this guy is going about this manga the way he is. No real hooks yet?

Yes on the face, as for the hook…looks like glasses guy isn't going to report the dude is a neighbor as long as he doesn't do anything illegal, and (=3=) seems happy about it, plus there's another random attack, but no solid hook yet for now (for me at least).
-
After already dealing with bullies three times in the previous two chapters, wasting another six pages on them I say is a waste.
That may not seem like a lot to you, but that's well 1/4 of the chapter. -
It's hard to believe this is the same guy who did Super Dog Rilienthal, he's just staaaaaaaaaaalling like no-one's business. I mean I like it a bit, it looks pretty, but it's a step down from Ashihara's previous work, and when that only ran 4 volumes that's…. not a good sign.
Best comparison is still Takama-Ga-Hara, in that they both wasted their opening chapters, but I really do want this to pull its socks up and get on with more exciting stuff. And more exciting expressions.
-
Looks like that bully with the broken foot will probably be a reoccurring character. Despite having his mind wiped he vaguely remembered his foot getting crushed after ( = 3 =) did his ground stomp. I can only assume that's why he bothered showing them again so soon.
Also this image…http://www.mangahere.com/manga/world_trigger/c003/21.html
Is that the same guy on the left? Or is it someone else?

Chapter 4, WOOHOO! much better. This really should have been chapter 1.

! NO BULLIES TO BEAT UP!You were right. This would have been a much better starter chapter. I actually found something to like about it despite the fact I still don't like ( = 3 =).
I like how the trigger transformation kinda seems to function. I was all "Oh shit!" But then it was fine lol.
-
Still hurting from 2 and 3's world-building vapidness, but man… chapter 4... If it hasn't spent any goodwill I'd expect this to make some waves. Ridiculously good.

And of course if you're American or Canadian make sure to get chapter 4 from the next issue of Weekly Shonen Jump US, which'll be out in a small matter of hours. And I believe through their improved system you can get the previous issues with chapters 1-3 in still (and all of chapter one in that nifty starter pack). Y'all know it's the better way. -
hm… kinda conflicted about the bully issue here. They were used for an easy explanation of why no one ever remembers areas being destoryed but it was still annoying.
Anyway yeah, new chapter made me go "OH SHIZZLE!" at first.
I guess this will allow for some hardcore battles.
-
Yep, definitely a turn around chapter.
-
This could have some potential.
Chapter 1 left me curious, chapter 2 bored me, chapter 3 didn't get interesting until the last page, and then chapter 4 blew me away. If the author would focus a lot more on the sci-fi/starship troopers kind of stuff and building a story from that stuff with possible space travel and whatnot, this could be a pretty good manga.
Just don't.. PLEASE don't… for the love of god don't have the defenders of the planet beat up some more high school thugs.
-
Finally got a chance to read ch4 and…yeah the author should have somehow put some of this action into chapter 1 and allocated some of the exposition (and bullies) into ch 3/4 as cool down/world building chapters. Maybe this serie is worth following afterall, but that only depends on whether the the author decides to focus on bullies again or these monsters. I fear this story might still have pacing issues though. I am curious to see where the next chapter goes...though it is still somewhat of a typical story right now.
-
What a good chapter.

WT>Bleach even with Ch 1-3
Not a huge fan of how seemingly underpowered the "main" character is but we'll see I guess
-
I think it's a balance thing, innit. One of them's super strong and heartless, the other one's weak and has too much heart. both have an area to improve in.

Are comparing Bleach's first 3 chapters with these first 3?
Because I thoroughly enjoyed Bleach in the beginning. This one is kinda meh.

Well if you read this and Bleach's chapters carefully, you will notice that they share a lot of characteristics. They're not stupidly obvious, but they are pretty apparent.
-
Ichigo did beat up some punks first chapter iirc.
-
WT Author: Hmm, first page has Ichigo beating up bullies. OF COURSE! That must be why Bleach is so popular! goes off and writes 3 chapters straight with bullies getting beaten up
Fortunately…Ch4 is the exception.
-
At least Bleach had an actual cast of characters by chapter 4.
-
bleach actually had a very ideal model shounen first chapter
-
The only qualm I had with Bleach chapter one is we never really got the main character's objective (which ISN'T a necessity, but it helps like with OP's "pirate king/shank's hat" and Naruto's "hokage". It gives the story an immediate direction/sense of purpose. But it apparently, in the long run, this problem still seems apparent since the story does seem to still lack a sense of purpose.
However, Bleach chapter 1 had a lot of major pluses that would easily entice readers. Stylistically unique, violent, fast paced, quirky designs, and compelling premise (all of which has been absent in Bleach for a LONG time).
-
It also subverted a lot of tropes and had characters you were interested in from the getgo.
Kubo what happened. You used to be so good at character designs. :[
