They could always replace the images and still keep the opening we have now. Something hunter x hunter 2011 does alot.
I'd be…upset, to say the least, if they went this route.

@Miss:
In an unrelated topic: Have we not heard anything about a new opening yet? Because I thought for sure that this would be the optimal time to introduce one. It wouldn't be very nice to kickstart the next episode with Shirahoshi and Hody still in the intro. Although One Piece intros have span multiple arcs before, so.. Maybe it'll be a surprise?
If they want to announce a new opening, there's still one Jump to be released before the next episode…it's the last chance.
If nothing happens, there's still hope if they pull a surprise, which only happened once, with Kaze wo Sagashite.

DBz Kai's "Dragon Soul" was done that way as well. Also while I love We Go, I probably wouldn't like this too much, as I'm kinda ready for a new opening now, but I would like a remix or 2 of We Go further down the line in other openings, similar to what we got with We Are. (Straw Hat remix, DBSK remix, etc.)

no, it would be to late in term of official release date, because the last jump release was a double issue #03-04, so the next official release for jump #05 is in 15 days january 7 (of course we gonna have the scan in advance as usual but it's not my point).
The thing is the next episode 579 of the new arc will air the january 6, before the jump #05 officially comes out.
The jump #03-04 was the last issue to talk about it, not the next one, because the point is to talk about a new opening before it actually happen, not after :/
and this make me think we may not have a new opening yet :/, or yeah toei goes for the surprise.

Next Shonen Jump actually comes out on 1/4. It's an early Friday release.

As everyone knows "we go" is the new "we are" . So I think they would want to use it for as long as they want.
Honestly i like "we go" so I wouldn't mind either way. But I wouldn't want it to out stay its welcome either so…...

Well as the new we are, we go has already lasted for more ep than we are (62 against 47) and as good as we go may be, I think it's really time for it to let its place for a new opening >_>. (Well if in the end there's no new opening, I'll cry "whyyyyyyy" and then skip the opening like I did for the filler part).
Needs to be a japanese metal song, to reflect the fury and…destructive power of the Punk Hazard arc. Needs to be like the second opening of Death Note.

just thinking to the characters of this arc, there's not space for a song that isn't well hard rhytmed
Now that I think about it, Eternal Waves could have been a pretty cool song for Opening 16.

I love metal just as much as the next guy,but it just doesn't suit one piece at all. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
Come to think of it,I didn't think that type of music would fit hunter x hunter either, but it worked for its first ed.

I disagree. I like this song very much, but it just doesn´t fit as an opening, since it´s too slow. The only really slow opening we had was "One Day", because of Ace´s death and because the strawhats were still apart, but now that they are all back and ready to go on the next adventure we need a fast, lively song!

16 chars of god no
That doesn't fit one piece a single bit

Yeah, I think so too! It fits perfectly as an ending. It´s so sad that they don´t use endings anymore! I loved every single ending we had, even the second one.
I really hope we get a new opening. I wouldn't really mind if we keep going with "We Go!" a while longer since I really enjoy it, but it's time we change things up a bit, now that Punk Hazard is starting..

It would fit just fine, whether you want to admit it or not.
It would fit better than the 'happy-go-lucky' Kaze wo Sagashite (or SagaSHIT, as I call it) did with the Impel Down arc/Marineford arc/Ace's & Whitebeard's death; heck… A war arc IN GENERAL. It's like the Benny Hill theme being the theme song during the time of Concentration Camps/Invasion of Normandy, France during WWII.

Kaze wo Sagashite is an example of going to the extreme happy side of openings. Metal would go to the extreme dark side, something One Piece is not.
One Piece is more about adventure, so the dark themes that metal can convey definitely don't belong in one of its openings.

Punk Hazard's a pretty dark arc though, and I'm not talking heavy metal or anything; just metal (or hard rock, and japanese, of course–which, to be frank, isn't dark when compared to its counterparts). In fact, the series is seemingly becoming darker as it progresses.
I'm not saying One Piece will reach the status of series like Monster, Death Note, Texhnolyze, or Berserk dark. But, it has, to me anyway, become a darker series in a somewhat short amount of time.
I'd be a little more open to a new opening theme if it was still Kitadani.
.Yuugi, what is your avatar from…?
tee hee, the avatar looks much better. ty for the reply
RIP Takashi, the seiyuu for Montblanc Cricket. My condolences.
May he find new romance wherever he is now.
Peace to his relatives.
Rest in Peace. It's always sad when someone you've had fun listening to, passes away. As the song goes, "thanks for the memories…"

Since I haven't seen anyone talking here or on the manga board about a new opening announcement, I'm assuming there wasn't one and we're doomed to ichi ni sunshine purgatory unless Toei trolls us?

Yep. No announcement.
It'll either be a surprise or "We Go!"

This is the most disappointing option I can imagine
Toei has never done that before though.
Best thing to hope for is the surprise, or they change it a bit into the arc, like they did with Share the World and Sabaody.
They might be waiting until the typical seasonal changeover. New openings tend to occur during the beginning of the spring (april) or fall (october). So the current opening could perhaps be staying with us until April.
Looking it up it seems One Piece has never had a new opening during the winter. Its always been during the fall, spring or (rarely) the summer.
@Galaxy:
Toei has never done that before though.
In One Piece, no. However, they've done it a lot with other shows. To mention something relatively recent, Digimon Xros Wars went through several changes to the opening animation over the course of its first season.

True, but that doesn't mean they can't start. Toei just seems to do stuff at a whim anyways, so there is no telling.
Anyways I didn't think anyone would have the balls to do something like that until the new hunter anime (not sure if its been done in other anime or not) but ill give that anime a pass since at least has great animation and consistent art. Something most long runners can take an example from.

Yes they've done that with other Digimon series as well, Adventure 02 and Tamers both come to mind.
I really hope we do get a new theme soon though, it's definitely time.
Same thing happend to Toriko and DBZ Kai
And since 'we go' is a new main theme of OP…. then....maybe....nahhh, they won't do that to us.
Right...?
RIGHT?
I'm expecting a surprise. A new opening next episode, I mean. Expecting a surprise, though, is rather ironic when you think about it.
It would be cheaper to re-adjust it for the next arc though, but I hope that doesn't happen.
Maybe they're waiting for a good chunk of the new characters to make their appearances before displaying them all in the opening? Though I'd think most people who watch the anime also read the manga and wouldn't have to fear being spoiled, but I know squat about the viewership.
Then again that's not how they handled the FM Island characters in We Go
Ehh I have no idea how these things work

Toei doesn't seem to follow that rule when it comes to OP, though. For instance, One Day debuted in July and Kaze wo Sagashite in November.

Wow really?haven't watched the toriko anime in awhile so that is news to me.
Hopefully this doesn't become a new trend, now that I think about how long has this practice been going on? I remember shows like yu yu hakusho doing stuff like this, except through their entire anime.

Toei doesn't care about spoilers either.
Kaze wo Sagashite premiered during Impel Down, and had scenes in it that went all the way to the latest manga chapters.

It would hardly become a "new" trend considering how it was pretty much omnipresent 20+ years ago. Like, look at Dragon Ball Z for example… 291 episodes... Only actually changed its theme-songs once through that entire run. Sailor Moon? Four of its five series had the same theme-song with different visuals (although they did remix the song for S and SuperS.) And how about the longest-running anime ever made, Sazae-san? From what I can gather, it's never changed its theme-song.
Oh, and changing the theme-song seems to be mostly an anime-thing anyway. I mean, how many non-Japanese shows can you think of that frequently change their theme?
Toei doesn't seem to follow that rule when it comes to OP, though. For instance, One Day debuted in July and Kaze wo Sagashite in November.
Those are the exceptions to the rule though. The far majority of the OP opening have started in either October or April (or pretty close to those dates). And the exceptions tend to have obvious causes: Kaze wo Sagashite began with the Strong World filler and One day occurred in conjunction with the start of Marineford arc (which in of itself was a rare occurence).

It could be. Though if it happens it'll join Kaze wo Sagashite as the exception of exceptions since it also wouldn't have been announced ahead of time.

Also, you have to consider that unlike first episodes, now there's a new series director, and since the end of thriller bark that he took control, there has been all the exceptions you're saying.
I remember the one opening that spoiled Robin would become a strawhat well before she actually became one.
Thankfully at that point I'd already been reading the manga.
Those are the exceptions to the rule though. The far majority of the OP opening have started in either October or April (or pretty close to those dates).
Believe (November 22), Hikari E (June 30), Brand New World (May 21), Crazy Rainbow (November 5)…alongside ""Kaze" and "One Day", makes it six against nine, those are certainly a lot of exceptions.
Pretty much every studio time their new openings to begin in either April or October, regardless of new arcs, but Toei doesn't care. They go out of their way to have a new OP when they think it's time, so they really don't stick to that rule. Not to mention they don't follow a strict amount of 24-26 episodes for each OP, unlike other studios.
Even if Toei followed that pattern of waiting for another anime season to start, then January 6th would be a great date for the new opening since the 2013 winter season is starting at that time (+- a few days).
