Chapter 694: A Very Dangerous Man

Apookins and the Kidd.

That would be like picking the members of your team in the school sports class. The good ones have all been chosen, so the losers have to form a group on their own (well, except Drake maybe).
I would choose Urouge over Kid, Hawkins or Killer on a sports class anytime. I bet he could do all the team's work alone :ninja:

The Supernoviettes?

The Killer Kidappinks.
It's a name for a kidnapping group. i like it
I can see the tagline for Hairkid: The alliance of bad hairstyles.
-
What the hell is going on? Kiddy PooPoo Sky Kite? What planet did I just wake up on? What year is it?! Who are you people?!?!
-
The Killer Kidappinks.
That sounds like that matches the Strawhat & Law alliance more
-
Looks like Brownbeard is conscious again. Dude's a beast.
I like that Law acknowledges what an odd time it is for Smoker to bring up the heart situation. I think a flashback would have been more appropriate. Like, a scene of Law giving Smoker his heart back which prompts him to question why Caesar thought he was in possession of his heart. I dunno, the timing just seemed weird.
Also, look at how adorable Sind is being, protecting Mocha from falling rocks:
!
On the Monet situation, I'd like to believe that she's dead; not because I want her to be but because she was explicitly portrayed as getting killed. I know she probably isn't, but there's always that chance. I just think Oda uses the whole fake-out death trope way too much, and I think a real death would be a nice change of pace and a good way of showing a distinction between the Paradise and the New World (where death happens more frequently). The fact that a lot of mysteries surrounding Monet's character have been left open indicates she may live, but they could always reveal those via flashbacks.Honestly, dead or not, neither option would surprise me.
As for Doflamingo, I think he's gonna be a force to be reckoned with. I'm hoping they hold off on him meeting with the Straw Hats for at least a few smaller arcs. But I hope he stays relevant and his status is kept updated.
With all these big occurrences in the manga, one of the things I'm most interested in seeing is how the giant group of people on the SAD cart will depart from Punk Hazard. Will they all pile onto the Sunny? The Straw Hats, Momo, and Kinemon are pretty much the only ones guaranteed to. That SAD tanker has blown up like 3 times, but I suppose it could still be navigated as long as it hasn't sunk. I'm guessing G-5 will take that tanker and take the kids back to their respective families. But aren't they in danger of dying in 5 years? Or is that just if they were to continue being experimented on? Also, I'd like for Smoker and Tashigi to stick around for a little while longer. I wonder if Law's sub is somewhere close-by. If so, he'll probably take the satyrs/centaurs with him and follow the Sunny. But where would their destination be? Dressrosa? Doesn't make much sense if Doflamingo isn't even there…
I seems to be just rambling now. Sorry about that. It's gonna be rough, these next few weeks.

While I'm in the Monet=dead boat, I don't really understand the "because it's the New World" notion.
I honestly don't think strong pirates are a big part of the New World's reputation.
In my eyes it's just more crazy sea, more crazy islands, more crazy weather similar to the transmission from East Blue to Grand Line. -
For the Alliance the name ScratchKid Hawkins sounds nice.
New World just adds dangerous environment into the mix

Unlike the first half of the GL the New World is dominated by those who seek ultimate power and fame; who aim for the very top. Not having strength spells doom for any pirate in that terrifying sea (even if they're able to withstand the crazy weather conditions).

yeah, but come on, Brownbeard was in the NW, Lola's crew was in the NW, those that Kid crucified (well, those wanted to leave, but they did travel a bit in the NW) it can't be THAT crawling with strong ones

But remember where those characters ended up respectively. Brownbeard was only able to escape to a seemingly deserted island (having been destroyed by Hawkins beforehand), Lola and her crew were in Thriller Bark with their shadows being held hostage by a Shichibukai (and who knows if Lola wasn't under her mom's protection while in the latter half of the GL) and those pirates… well you said it yourself already- they didn't get far before meeting Kid.
In my eyes strength and an iron will are mandatory if you want to survive as a pirate and make a name for yourself (in the NW that is). -
the alliance name should be HawkApKidd :ninja:
-
Remember that Law "wants to take something back", I guess his crew. It's unlikely he has the submarine with him

I think he was referring to his heart.

Its his own desire for that, he refused to call his crew the Apoo Pirates, nope he went with "On Air", he's had to deal witht he jokes ever since… like they use 'air' in the alliance name because other wise it the Apookin fans would be outraged at the "Kid On Hawkins" :ninja:

Things I caught when reading this chapter a third time: how serious and contemplative Doflamingo looks when he's at his window. Definite switch of character.

Saw something about a show in the 1990's called Babylon 5.. Could that have been inspiration for naming Baby 5?

So did I. It seems like he has that kind of behaviour around his 'dear servants' (no better word since we don't know too much about their shared past) but most of the time puts up the smile act. According to the motto 'age of smiles'. I have a feeling that there's a lot more to his character; more than all of us would expect. And quite frankly, I'm dying to know more about Doflamingo and his past.

TEAM HEAVY METAL
!
! -
Since Monet has an altered body, maybe she has 2 hearts…Although as much as I liked Monet, I do hope the two stay dead though. Although, I don't know if Vergo is dead, since we was sliced by law, he could still be alive, but in two pieces.
-
I don't think the real fight with Dofla will be on Punk Hazard.
1. It's really just Dofla, Baby5, Buffalo (Ceasar won't survive another beatdown and Vergo needs to be put together)
They have to fight Luffy, Law, Smoker, Zoro, Sanji, rest of SHs, Tashigi and G-5, Brownbeard and his fodder, a dragon and some Giant Kids. Not to mention Franky is holding his own against 2 of them already.
2. Dress Rosa characters will be cut-off from the rest of the storyline if Dolfa loses. There were some intersting characters there.
3. If strawhats lose I can't think of any way out (unless Dragon or Kuma decide to show up again). edit or the Going Merry or Law's submarine or Pell or… -
Monet is both dead and not dead, at the same time.
-
Monet is both dead and not dead, at the same time.
Both dead and not dead, eh? The only way this would be possible is if you meant it in the following context:
Monet isn't a real thing. She's a drawing. In this sense she's not alive ("dead")
In the manga she's alive

Schrödinger's Monet. :D
She is both alive and dead, both realities are superimposed, until one of the realities collapses at the moment when we actually see that she is either alive or dead.
! "Schrödinger's Cat: A cat, a flask of poison and a radioactive source are placed in a sealed box. If an internal monitor detects radioactivity (i.e. a single atom decaying), the flask is shattered, releasing the poison that kills the cat. There is a supposed 50% chance of this happening. The Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics implies that after a while, the cat is simultaneously alive and dead. Yet, when one looks in the box, one sees the cat either alive or dead, not both alive and dead. This poses the question of when exactly superposition ends and reality collapses into one possibility or the other"
! Wikipedia -
Her status is not clear, yes. But schrödingers cat is a bad example, because we actually saw the act that "killed" her.
If that all wpuld have happened in the real world, id jump on the shes dead wagon for sure.
But its the imaginary op world where people survive lethal stuff all the time and oda likes cliffhangers and monets character is kind of undeveloped, i think shes alive!
