really, thanks!!!!!!
@Gliblord: You need to understand that they had no way to trace the incidents. Both of the stand users in question were dead, and everyone else was staying mum. What doesn't make sense is that the secret of stands hasn't come out through other circumstances by now.

Possible spoilers?
! But I thought that since normal people can't see Stands and most people that get involved die it wouldn't come out at all. At the very least people would think it's a hoax. Hell, half the Stand users we seem to come across are even skeptical although they know about the abilities.

! That works, up until the moment a whole trainload of people suddenly start aging and de-aging, and a part of Rome becomes quicksand with random Romans becoming mold factories. It also doesn't provide a cover up for the aforementioned 19th century vampiric attacks.
No way stands would stay secret in the real world. The fact that they are a secret in the manga is little more than a plot convenience, so Araki can focus on the primary conflict without getting the government and such involved. All it would take is one person willing to reveal the secret, as most of the surviving cast members from part 3 onwards have seen several stand users and could reveal their whereabouts. Further, half of the people we see in the series have little to no reason for keeping their abilities secret.

! Well…Let's talk about Vampires. I look at it like this. The majority of people in the JJBA universe wouldn't consider a vampire a real thing. In real life a lot of times we hear that the myth started back when people were superstitious and couldn't explain odd phenomenons or fathom how someone could kill people in horrific and inhumane ways. So someone a bit off their nut, but believable, comes up with this idea about a humanoid monster that feeds off of people and is immortal. Coming up with bizarre theories helps people cope with things they can't fully comprehend.
! I figure that the train incident is looked as mass hysteria, swamp gas, wild badgers, etc. We tell ourselves strange things when something weird occurs and there's no easy to spot reason.
It also doesn't provide a cover up for the aforementioned 19th century vampiric attacks.
We did see the newspaper coverage of the Windsknight Lot incident.
It pretty much amounted to "a bunch of village folk mysteriously disappeared. There were some dudes there. One of them broke a mask with a sledgehammer.Mysterious."
! Also I don't think Stands users would be overly willing to come out. Most of them are murderers.
The fact that they are a secret in the manga is little more than a plot convenience, so Araki can focus on the primary conflict without getting the government and such involved.
! Oh but it does get involved in Part 7.
! Hell,even Jesus is somehow involved(haven't read it all).l

Yeah, exactly my thinking.
Too much spoilers and no one noticed this… Well, whatever. I'll give you my opinions (like it would matter)...
Spoiler from everything (just in case).
! 1º - It's fiction, just a manga, so the author can cover up this like there weren't anyone normal who noticed, even if it was obvious.
2º - Because Araki (I know it's like the first point, but talking about Araki can't forget writing this just for the lulz).
3º - For Part 5, we can suppose Passione have some connections with the government and asked to cover up this incidents somehow, they are the most powerful and dangerous mafia in Italy, so why not?
! It still is a plothole in some moments, like Straits in New York, but Araki tries to limitate these events only for the characters. Like someone here said, he doesn't want to envolve something more than he wants, so if this happens he just forget and pretends nothing happened, only for the characters he uses.
! Oh but it does get involved in Part 7.
! Hell,even Jesus is somehow involved(haven't read it all).l
! Sure, but it's still only a small minority of the population, functionally the same as any organization from the first 6 parts.

! I wouldn't call isolated incidents like with Straits or whenever fights started involving civilians to be plot holes. They're singular occurences where people would claim to see something impossible, and in most cases they never see the involved parties again. As long as nobody reveals the secret of stands, vampires or Hamon, the secrecy surrounding them makes sense. That said, what I don't believe is that so many people would independantly decide to hide such a huge secret, when it's human nature to reveal such findings and there's little reason not to.
Trying to use common sense to the events of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure lacks common sense.
People have a weirdness censor, anything beyond their understanding, or their "world" gets censored. If you hold on to those ideas and confront them to someone else, that person will disbelive, or ridicule the "conspiracy theorist" or "gullible" one.
Besides, of the list of things that don't make sense of Vento Aureo, you are taking issue that "no one noticed the annomalies"?
That's true to a degree, but once the evidence becomes unmistakeable people will start believing. And even a single stand user coming forward would provide unmistakeable, scientifically proveable evidence, not to mention the possible revealing of several more stand users. And out of curiosity, what doesn't make sense? Just to be a tad preemptive…
! The stand arrow didn't affect Giorno when Black Sabbath used it because the arrow didn't deam him worthy. Giorno's stand can give life and rebound damage given to it's constructs. King Crimson's abilitiy probably has decent internal logic, but I was never able to understand it, partly due to the subpar translations. Polnareff didn't use the arrow on himself or tell Jotaro about it because he is a fool. Any other questions?
So, a stand user comes forward to tv and says "I have this misterious power that allows me to..(let's stay down to earth) move stuff!!, don't you see him? It's called "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"!"
He's on tv, another stand user that surely hates the first one comes and proves it a hoax with "Baby baby baby huh" repeating the trick and then setting up the fake evidence, kills the first one and the two fade away into obscurity.
Also, the kind of people that get stands could be the kind of people that don't want to get famous for it, they either want to kill for the hell of it, fight for justice, or keep on living with their extraordinary talents. The stands were about the personality, so the kind of people that goes to tv and blurbs all the secrets of the stands, aren't suited to get a stand.
Maybe Valentine of all universes prevents the revelations of the standoom.
I'll go with weirdness censor.
The "weirdness censor" isn't going to be a catch-all, you know. There are tons of people who scream to the skies about the stupidest little things they thought were paranormal.
Maybe the people of the Jojoverse are just so desensitized to crazy shit after Nazi science and Jack the Rippers vampire rampage.
And what do we do? We ignore them. We ridicule them. We make fun of them. We turn their stories into jokes, cautionary tales and memes.
Even the events of Crimsom King, Bohemian Rapsody and Starway to heaven that should be inignorables by all mankind, just got handwaved.

We ignore them because their proof is circumstantial at best, nonexistent at worst. Again, stands are a phenomenon that can be proven and tested repeatedly. The scenario you brought up is only one possible scenario out of hundreds; you can't say that would happen every time or even frequently. As for your statement about personalities, all sorts end up with stands. The only trait that is shown to be absolutely necessary is a strong spirit. Everything else is variable.
! As for the large scale stand incidents, King Crimson and Silver Chariot Requiem probably merited tons of investigation, but of course only Giorno, Trish, Mista and Polnareff knew about it, so nothing could be done. Not to mention, GER would probably have stopped any attempts to investigate Giorno.
! As for Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven, the people of the world only had a few days to respond to them before everything reset. Not to mention we only saw a microcosm of the responses to the incident. More likely than not, several stand users would have been revealed while Stairway to Heaven was going on, especially Ungaro, since he was behind Bohemian Rhapsody and wanted an extraordinary life.

All three of those things have veritable hordes of believers and aren't socially unacceptable to believe in, despite they're all being patently ridiculous. If a UFO swoops down and beams up a train, people are not going to be laughing that off.

I would, untill I saw the video, then I would look for proof of it being a hoax, and when I couldn't I'd hide, untill I can ignore it succesfully, unless the phenomena manages to intrude in my life, Or I was the witness, then I'd have to reestructurate my system of belives and self, so I couldn't answer what "I'd do" then.
I'm sure that there's a "Stands fan club" in the Jojoverse, that gathers a lot of people but aren't treated as evidence.

Yes, there are lots of escenarios, but is more than Araki is willing to give.
In the end you have 2 choices, the Jojo answer, that it isn't the foucs of the plot, so it doesn't mater.
Or the "Try to predict it with the real world as a comparasion", that leads to:

It still requires someone credible to actually make the claim. If Neil deGrasse Tyson said he got taken up by aliens and they taught him the dance from Single Ladies. I'd believe it.
A train full of people getting snatched may not cause people to laugh it up. But it'll be filed away under unsolved mysteries.
Also name one person that you've seen in documentary about ghosts, monsters and other oddities that seemed like they were a fully functional human.
In the Jojoverse, the History channel has a program about hitler's undeniable connection to Stands
The best part is that it's far far more accurate than they realize

TONIGHT ON HIDDEN HISTORIES
The Steel Ball Run????? Was it really just a good natured race designed to celebrate the pioneer spirit that just happened to incredibly bolster the economy, be a landmark moment for civil rights, and immortalize Funny Valentine as the greatest leader of anything ever????
OR WAS IT REALLY A COVER UP FOR SOMETHING FAR GREATER
We look at startling new evidence!!!! New archives from President Valentines office!!!
Now we're not saying the race was about Jesus's skeleton
but the race was about jesus's skeleton
Omg spoilers~ Geeze.
In fairness, the saint's identity became really obvious pretty early on.
In fairness, the saint's identity became really obvious pretty early on.
I'm not that faaar~
I've read a bit of steel ball run, and I didn't get that far either, but I still managed to figure that much out
Just the stigmata should be hint enough.
And the crown of thorns.
Tonight on History, "Funny Valentine: Great President or Greatest President?"
Tonight on History, "Funny Valentine: Great President or Greatest President?"
In the Jojoverse there is no Statue of Liberty, just a giant gold statue of Funny pointing at Manhattan holding a giant sign that says "NO BULLSHIT CZARS/KAISERS/NAPOLEON/POGROMS/POTATO FAMINES ON THIS SIDE"
Taking the napkin is fightin' words in the White House
"On this napkin is health care reform. I fucking dare you to take it from me."
Oh, the napkin, I'm just imagining ANYONE hearing it without context, and It brings me joy, I think that I should start using it in conversations.
! I didn't think of the stigmata. Why would he still have those wounds? I thought he healed to max after the 3 days. And I haven't seen the head yet so I didn't see the crown of thorns. I'm really not that far into Part 7 lol. I'm only just now at chapter 36.
Teddy Roosevelt would make foreign delegates go on two mile jogs with him to judge their worth
Funny Valentine simply observed their dinner etiquette
But what if I took… BOTH NAPKINS!!!

Nah, he rose from the dead in 3 days, he kept the wounds and even asked his disciples to touch them… which is kinda funny when you think about it.

Dinner etiquette at the Valentine's includes shotgunning your beer.

Just stand right next to this door…just like that...aaaaaanndddd...

He would do that with all problems, external debt, terrorism, rowdy stand users.
Although we were pretty much done talking about it. I think this illustrates my point a bit more about non-Stand users and their reactions to Stands and weird occurrences.
! Particularly the last panel.
Yes, there are lots of escenarios, but is more than Araki is willing to give.
In the end you have 2 choices, the Jojo answer, that it isn't the foucs of the plot, so it doesn't mater.
Or the "Try to predict it with the real world as a comparasion", that leads to:
- People ignore it as they can't understand it
- There's a conspiracy, as there are stand users in every goverment, as they are drawn together, and with strong personalities, they tend to go to positions of power, where they could shut down any Ungaro that wants to go public with the fantastic powers that would force them to change the way that they do things
Sure, but I don't think any of your explanations fit for the latter option, which forces me to conclude the former. Come to think of it though…
Part 5 spoilers
! We only ever saw 5 of the stand arrows in the original series, when there were said to be 6. Maybe the person who got their hands on the last one figured out the Requiem function. Maybe they're a huge fan of pulp fiction where supernatural forces remain hidden from the world, so their stand goes Requiem, and it gains the ability to subtly manipulate the fate of souls, so that stands are never discovered.
Omg spoilers~ Geeze.
Yeah, you're right. please spoiler tag.

Wow. Just caught up to the anime, and it is so amazing.
I liked the Phantom Blood arc, but this Battle Tendency Arc tops it by far.
Like all series I catch up with though, waiting weekly is going to be unbearable.
