Oh, right, noticed that reading this thread but i didn't remember the titan respected her. I was wrong, that's interesting for sure :P
Attack on Titan: Why Genocide Is Sometimes Kind of Okay

Oh yeah, Ilse did have freckles.
But this hidden revelation complicates the titan faction relations even further, at least to me. Ymir and her people are supposedly the first titan faction from the outside the walls which until the recent introduction of advanced sentient titan species was presented by the mindless numerous drones. But now it turns out Ymir is also part of the second titan faction from the inside of the walls which is just humans shapeshifting into titans.
Who manipulates who again.

Is that last month's chapter? I've been wondering for a while if Monthly magazines like Bessatsu take the same breaks as the weekly ones.
Anyway, I'm glad the story keeps getting better. This and Doubutsu no Kuni are among the few series I bother to buy.
-
None of the three long japanese holidays have any effect on the schedule of the monthly magazines as far as I know. Last month we had chapter 35 in issue #08, this month we have chapter 36 in issue #09.
-
I had always wondered why ymir had important moments in the manga while not being in the top 10 and not being named. Specifically this moment.
http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/12/10 -
Man, it would be so much easier to remember these characters if they didn't all look so similar. I get he's going for a bit of verisimilitude or what have you, but still.

You recognize the hair colour, freckles (and female how they tie their hair or whatever) and after that you recognizes how the character would act. That is how you should distinguish them. They all act distinguishly different. With whom they hang, what they say and etc. I had difficulties the first 12 chapters, after that it has been a lot easier. I admit though sometimes it can get difficult but than you just reread the chapter.
-
In the beginning I had Jean and Reiner confused a few times. But by this point pretty much every secondary character is already distincty enough on their own, so I don't know what you are talking about.
What I still can't get over is the Ymir bomb. It's too small of a detail to be a distracting red herring at this point. Or is it? Man, Isayama, what are you doing here.
-
I don't think it's a red herring
What would even be the point anyway, it's not like it gives us any sort of insight on the titans origin or the conspiracy
If Ymir ends up coincidentally sharing her name with the person that titan mentioned, it'll just mean that Isayama created a rather pointless character just for the sake of vaguely hinting at her being important
I don't see the point

Just got finished reading this manga and so far it's awesome. The appearance of the intelligent titan surprised me because although I guessed one will be arriving soon, it appeared sooner than I thought.
I also have a far-fetched theory that the more skin/hair/fur a titan has the more intelligent it is…. of course this doesn't included the ones that can transform from humans to titans.
-
I'm sorry I doubted you Ymir. But what's up with the 104th trainee squad. Was Marco the only one not related to the titan mystery in any way.
Not as an emotionally gripping chapter as last Sasha centered one - though I suspect we might get a similar Connie story next time - but the view Nick sees and the spread of despaired people do their job nonetheless. Anyway, the revelations and implications Isayama throws at us this issue don't relieve the tension at all.
There no time to stop

I really liked this chapter. "What if there was something more important than preventing the fall of humanity?" Hm. Interesting. And the weird baby-like titan is totally creepy.

Regarding the 104th trainee squad. They started two years after the breach, and the breach is the perfect chance to secretly infiltrate the inner walls. That training squad is probably the first one that incorporated the people from the most outer region. The trainee squad is the easiest chance to get into the most inner wall, without breaking everything. That is the reason they wanted to join there. Ymir didnt go to the innest wall because of christa, and christa didnt go because she is a crowd pleaser. Reiner and bernhold wanted to go to the scouting squad because of the Eren changed into a titan thing.

I just started reading this series yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. It's heavy… It's violent as all get out.... but I like that about it. It gives me the same taste Gantz gave me once... A LONG LONG LONG time ago.
-
I recently started this manga, im enjoying it a lot. I heard theres going to be a live action movie….im guessing it will be Japanese though, but it doesnt give a lot of detail in wiki

Raws are out:
http://juinjutsuteam.forumcommunity.net/?t=50889609! Looks like the titan with tiny arms and legs was talking to Connie… Maybe it was formerly human? And the hairy ape titan led a bunch of titans to where the guys in the castle were, then proceeded to climb up the wall. Not sure what the guys riding in the dark were doing, the language there was too advanced for me. :P
-
! I repeat what I said before, that intelligent titan is one scary mofo.
! And it does seem like the villagers were turned into titans somehow. -
The beast titan has such a awesome design.
-
I could feel the pressure and the anxiety in the night part, that was well done to say the least.
And the orangutan being sentient and with an objective is what scares me the most.
-
The part with the torches reminded me to the game "Dragon's Dogma", you really fear the beasts that may lurk on the night.
! And then there is the part about people turning into dragons too…
-
Utgard is the name of the illusionary hall of the giants in Norse mythology.
-
This manga is getting weirder by the second. Quite sure next chapter, Ymir will finally reveal what's what.
-
I got a little lost in this chapter, where is castle utgard located? is it in the vicinity of wall rose?
-
Interesting, this manga is is kind of giving me a claymore feel.
Seems like a group of humans or non humans are using the giants and walls as some sort of containment.
-
http://www.mangahere.com/manga/shingeki_no_kyojin/c039/2.html
This face… i just can't...
-
Wow that's really fucked up. I was lucky and missed the last 2 chapters so had 3 in one go… that beast titan is scary as fuck.
-
I wonder if the other Titans scaled the wall or if there's something far more diabolical at work.
The second is more likely if we consider that Titan with dimunitive limbs.
At any rate,Titans being capable of simply climbing over the wall spells even DEEPER shit for humanity. It's worse than wall breaches on so many levels.
-
Seems like Isayama intends to establish some sort of rivalry between Ymir and Reiner seeing the "can incident" and in the current chapter Reiner thinking "Just marry me already" implying he possibly has feelings for Christa just how Ymir loves her.
Ape Titan, why so mad?
Utgard is the name of the illusionary hall of the giants in Norse mythology.
Precisely, the manga has a very solid theme based around the Norse mythology such as that several characters can be pinpointed to Norse figures.
EG: Sasha = Ullr or Armin = Bragi while Christa could be Lofn.Ymir is a important name in the myths however it'd be too much of a spoiler.
If one knows a bit about the Norse, one can make out where the story goes and how it may end though, I won't make any too hasty assumptions regarding that.

If you don't mind please PM me about your thoughts regarding the parallels and how they'll pan out in the future, I'm quite interested in Norse myths but not as invested as you are, it appears ;)

For one: Ymir.
! In the Norse Myth, Ymir is the ancestor of Jotnar/Titans as in the very first, without Ymir they wouldn't even exist basically giving birth to them.Odin once went on a discovery to find out if Ymir was a god but came to the result that Ymir was nowhere near a god but a pure evil entity yet for the Titans, Ymir can be considered one.Funny thing is:Ymir = The World literally, a Titan without parallell with its blood becoming the Ocean, and its bones the mountains. The gods used Ymirs eyebrows and created humanities sole stronghold against the Titans called Midgard, known for its walls.;Yet, Midgard awaits a fated battle. The colossal Titan
! We were told that he is quite hot or capable of producing flames.http://mangafox.me/manga/shingeki_no_kyojin/v01/c004/11.html Norse Myth has a colossal titan of fire called Surtr that is fated to battle Midgard and the Aesir and going after the Myth most fated to battle Freyr, the brother of Freyja.Though, Surtr is said to bring the end of everything by engulfing the world in flames ending Ragnaroks 2nd last step before the world is born anew with two human being a la Adam and Eve repopulating it.Aesir:
! They are Norse Gods really, parallells aren't that obvious but you gotta take a deeper look.Sasha = Ullr - A god that is supposed to have had unparallelled speed and skill with the Bow.http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/15/9 don't think I have to explain the Bow part. Armin - Bragi - Known for his intelligence and speeches.Intelligence speaks for Armin himself. Speech:http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/10/106.html Onwards. Rivaille could be Thor though the only resemblance I see is that Rivaille = Humanities strongest soldier Thor = strongest Aesir. Eh, I've always loved how the concept of Ragnarok is completely fated from the very beginning and basically everyone knows it but just rolls with it.

@MAL:
According to Bessatsu Shonen Magazine official website, manga "Shingeki no Kyojin" was announced to get a TV anime adaptation. It will be aired in the spring of 2013.
Source: Bessatsu Shonen Magazine
So, are you ready?
-
Too son. Too Bad. Unless the mangas pacing enters hyperspeed. the anime will be going the FMA/Soul Eater route after a year.
-
It'll probably be 1-cour and they might just have enough for that.
However, this implies either a lot of changes from the manga or a filler ending. And we still don't know which studio, the staff, etc.
Edit: Nevermind, I got some info - this is the staff of the previously announced "Project Attack". Most likely this is indeed the staff for Attack of the Titans.
Staff
Director: Araki Tetsuro (Death Note, Guilty Crown, Aoi Bungaku)
Series Composition: Kobayashi Yasuko (Casshern Sins, Jojo)
Character Design: Asano Kyoji (GitS, HxH, Guilty Crown, Kimi ni Todoke)
Production Studio: WIT Studio (A branch of I.G Port) -
1-cour?
If you mean one chapter/episode, then that still means that a weekly anime catches up to a monthly release fast. Even if the anime doesn't start until May, I'd be surprised if it covers much beyond the eventual resolving of the current manga events before making up its own ending. -
I mean a standard 13 episode season. And there should be enough material for 13 episodes.
-
Oh, definetely. If they do seasons it might work…or at least give them another year before fillering it up. I'm just so used to no-break-ever animes like One Piece and FMA: Brotherhood that I didn't even think seasons would be an option.
-
Seasons are the norm, it would be more than just suprising if they would turn a series with such a little amount of chapters into a neverending beast like they did with OP.
However, while I like the person they choose for the series composition the rest of the staff makes me cautious. Guilty Crown was a mess and while both of them participated in other great works I fear for another desaster. Not to mention there will be an amazing hype backlash as well.
-
I wonder how the anime adaptation will be in terms of art, the faces/designs are kinda rough in the manga but when it comes to movement it's definitely great.
And by looking at the staff one can tell that this is promising (animation wise). -
If the series composition is just as good as with the current Jojo anime there is a reason to be a bit excited.
-
Project Attack? Yes, they didn't even bother to hide it.
It was certain we would get a Shingeki no Kyojin anime sooner or later. And surprisingly, they have gathered an impressive staff to do it. Pay no heed to Guilty Crown complaints since the reason for that series being the biggest trainwreck of 2010s can and should be blamed on the script.
Anyway, at least until we see the first teaser on Friday and get more information on this, worrying about the unknown is pointless.
-
Yuuki Kaji as Eren
Yui Ishikawa as Mikasa
Marina Inoue as Armin -
And surprisingly, they have gathered an impressive staff to do it. Pay no heed to Guilty Crown complaints since the reason for that series being the biggest trainwreck of 2010s can and should be blamed on the script.
Yeah. Araki made the best he could with a story he didn't write.
I liked his work in Death Note, Kurozuka and the Aoi Bungaku arc he directed (this is an amazing series btw).Series composition refers to nothing else than the series' main writer…Kobayashi is kinda hit-or-miss, and in fact i like her original scripts more, but she usually has no problem with adaptations.
-
Now watch as Shingeki No Kyojin's popularity boom!
