I'm pulling for Assassination Classroom, Beelzebub, or Sket Dance.

Viz uncanceling Gintama and puttingit in alpha would be fantastic

I'd love to see Gintama coming back too. Don't know if they would do that though.
I wonder what their plan of action is? If they license series that have been serialized for for a while (especially the ones that have been around for a long time like Beelzebub or Sket Dance) how will they get people caught up to the current point in the story? Gintama isn't a problem because the arcs never go any longer than usually 10-or-so chapters, and the only thing one would really need to understand an arc would be the characters pasts.
Maybe they could do what they did last year when the Big 3 and rest were preparing to make the jump to later-on digital volumes, and make a post on the website summarizing everything that has happened until the current point.
-
so glad to see that barrage is getting a print release, that probably means that takamagahara and cross manage will as well. was worried it may just be online exclusive which would kinda suck (for me).
if there is one thing I'm grateful to alpha for even if i cant get it, it's that finally we can get some of the short lived manga series as the only ones that had been licensed before this were those attached to big name authors and would profit from name value alone.
Zombie Powder - Kubo Tite (Bleach,)
Gun Blaze West - Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin, Buso Renkin)
Waqwaq - Ryu Fujisaki (Hoshin Engi)
Ral Grad - Takeshi Obata (Death Note)
SandLand/Cowa - Akira Toriyama (Drgaon Ball/Z)hope they keep that word and bring more manga when/if they jump to the same schedule as japan.
I would like to see them delve into SJ's archives as well though and bring us stuff like hokuto no ken, city hunter and kimagure orange road and maybe the rest of jojo now that it has a new anime.and why have they not really put any oomph into the sunday line-up. there's so few series in it.
where's Kenichi, ZKC, The world God only knows and Magi with its new popularity boost due to the anime. I'm pretty sure gin no saji would sell due to the name value thing with hiromu arakwa. all the rest they have are finished or not under the sunday banner (like recca, mar and ueki) Kekkaishi is done with the next volume as well. isthey cant just continue with conan, rinne, arata and hayate can they that's only 4 series.
suppose for both jump and sunday they could use the cross game/tenjo tenge method and bundle the manga as omnibuses in order to catch up.
….maybe i just wanna buy too much manga lol.

Shonen Jump Alpha announced on twitter that they will be aquiring new series for the magazine when they make the jump (no pun intended) to Japan's releases in early 2013.
Watch it be Date-Senpai.
I hope it is Assassination Classroom though.

I got Vol. 65 in the mail today, and opened it up to find:
Translation/Stephen Paul
,so I'm looking forward to reading it once classes are all done. Shame 66 isn't coming out until March.
Kinda strange that the colorspread they showcased on the back cover was from the previous volume and not one from the current one like what they normally do.
-
Seriously, why do they hold the digital releases back? If I'm going to buy a digital volume that I can't even read on my Kindle Fire for only a dollar less than I can get the physical book for from RightStuf, I'd at least be tempted if I could read it before that physical volume is out.

Haven't visited this thread in a while.
Since Funi announced Strong World sometime back, do you think we might get Volume zero? I doubt we'd get it at all since it isn't all that important(and it was an intentionally limited thing), but it could be "nice". -

I see Chapter 0 getting the same treatment that the Toriko crossover got.

What treatment was that?
-
A special, "permanent" download for Alpha subscribers outside of the weekly magazine.

I wonder how long VIZ is planning on using the "New World" tagline for the current arc releases and what they might be planning on using next?
-
I'm not sure if I'm correct, but I don't think it's Viz's call when it comes to titles.
-

Well since the releases are so far and spread apart , I imagine it shouldn't be to much of a problem to come up with something before then.
-
New title announcement from Sasaki Hisahi. Nisekoi will be in Alpha in two weeks.
Some variety, good. -
Interesting… I wonder if they're planning to just not have it run simultaneous at all? They can't possibly just start up at chapter 50 or so and expect people to enjoy it the same way, right?

What makes you say that?
No actually, I see what you mean. Maybe they'll translate the previous volumes digitally so people can quickly catch up to it?
-
Didn't Alpha start with nothing but chapters that Viz hadn't caught up to yet?

Yeah, but most were series that had a following (and an anime) and so it wasn't as much of a gamble. That said, I'd rather see Gintama than Nisekoi and Gintama would be far easier to incorporate because it's episodic and has the anime that can be used to fill in most of what people have missed
-
I don't know what chapter of Nisekoi will appear in jump, but the story just hit a turning point in the series, so it'd be a fair place to start for new readers to jump in.
And anyways, Nisekoi follows the formula of a romantic comedy/harem manga so closely that it shouldn't be overly difficult for people to follow.
-

Pretty sure toriko didn't have that much of a following and it still got to get in,despite not selling as well as the other series.
-
So One piece 65 made it to #7 on the NYT list
-
Vol 65 is on the NY Times best seller list one again for the week of nov 11-17, and now its moved up to #3
-
They could go the Blue Exorcist route with Nisekoi and print two chapters per issue until they're caught up. Granted, I don't know how long/far Nisekoi is, but it's impossible, and neither are the other theories I've seen.
-
Well it looks like they are just moving forward, with a ting synopsis. No catch up chapters or anything like that. Oh and this little tidbit from the author, its rather meaningless but I find it kind of neat that he is indeed aware that foreigners are reading his work (and in real time very soon)
Edit: okay so apparently I'm unable to put the picture from my tablet via tapatalk. Anyways all it was was just him explaining and saying that he is very proud that others can appreciate his work from other countries .
-
Janurary 21st. Looks like my guess was correct. They'll catch up using the two double jump issues over winter break.
On a different note, the chapters they chose for Nisekoi were a great way to tie in new readers. The first chapter was pretty much the climax and a huge turning point for the series, but it also showcased on the characters which gives readers an idea who everyone is. The second chapter also did a good job showcasing the Onodera and her relationship with Ichijo. Next chapter is another good one as well since it brings back the other big plot device/story other than the fake relationship to keep the mafia people happy, the childhood key thing.
The chapter after that though…I wonder how SJA readers will take that chapter lol.

Volume 66 cover:
-
Just saw that on amazon myself. Huge disappointment. Punk Hazard starts this volume. Looks like they're going to be sticking with that shitty 'new world' subtitle for the rest of the series.
(Over volumes have been named after a new arc even if there were only two chapters of that new arc in the volume) sure, v67 could be named punk hazard, but that would only fuc* up their continuity more.
-
I would be okay with these stupid subtitles. …if they were freaking accurate.
-
But…they are in the New World, so it is accurate, more accurate than it was when they were on Fishman Island. The New World subtitle is probably going to stay for the rest of the series to denote it's timeskip.
-
Then the other volumes should've said 'Grand Line'.
-
Well….it'll probably stay until they reach the end of the New World at least. I don't think that will be the end of the series though, so I think there's a good chance we'll get a subtitle change much, much later. I think the story could go significantly beyond the New World and Raftel though. But yeah probs for the next 60 or so volumes we're sticking with New World. I don't mind. I like the color scheme and it's a pretty neutral title. Better when they were going to have the war all under "Impel Down". The only thing I wish is that we could finally get rid of the gigantic artwork obscuring numbering Viz used for its earlier series before going for a more natural look with later series like Toriko and Bakuman. Unfortunately if this was gonna change it would've happened at the speed up. At this point it's here to stay. It's not horrible, and I always care a little bit less when I finally hold the physical copy in my hand and realize the covers look awesome regardless. Plus we'll eventually, hopefully get special editions or something (zoro!)
-

It's understandable as to why they simply settled for New World.
They were subtitling based on "saga" therefore first 12 volumes were East Blue, next 12 Baroque Works, etc. But as they began to catch up, it became harder to see where the story was going to categorize it. If they had been volumes behind, I'm sure Sabaody-Impel Down-Paramount War would have all simply been subtitled "Paramount War" entirely. They learned from this and instead of trying to play a guessing game as to what the Saga will be called, they decided to indefinitely retain the "New World" subtitle for the post-timeskip stories.
It makes sense, and I don't really mind it.

Post-timeskip is going to last MUCH longer than a saga.
I'd even contend that Thriller Bark and Fishman Island were their own sagas, looking at the Japanese website.

So guys, since I´d like to support Oda-sensei, I´m thinking about buying up all of the volumes which are available around here (not all at once, but I´d like to start, you know ^^).
From what I´ve been reading the VIZ translations are pretty accurate and there´s no censorship, so I guess I´ll get those (they´re available over amazon.de). Now, my question to any of the Germans out there buying OP, is it the best option? The German volumes by Carlsen are a bit cheaper and at 68 it would make a difference (if you´d look at the total at least), but I´m really used to the English version now (reading Ruffy and everything else with their German names…:D). But I´d still like to know how good the translation is and if it is uncensored (it probably is, just want to make sure).Would be happy to get some answers, guys :)
-
How good the translations are depends a bit on who was doing the volumes. Stephen's been doing the recent translations and he's usually considered the best OP translator out there right now to my knowledge, but I know some people have issues with a few early volumes (I have the early volumes, but haven't read them in a while)
-
The early volumes aren't bad, but I hear there was a bit of pirate lingo/slang during East Blue. I started collecting volumes from the Grand Line, so I'm not sure how bad that was.
But for the most part, it's mostly good with a few misplaced dialogue hiccups here and there.
-
Post-timeskip is going to last MUCH longer than a saga.
Yes. That's why I said they would retain that title for the rest of the post-timeskip stories.

We're looking at a JUNE release for v67. Hopefully it features a new subtitle.
Is that our new schedule? A volume every three months? I suppose it's manageable, but I wish they were a bit more caught up with the japanese volumes.

That's ridiculous.
They already have these chapters translated for Alpha, and even if they didn't they released them once every two months just fine before.
At this point they could be having simultaneous releases for new volumes as they come out in Japan, instead they are falling further behind.
What is going on? -

Okay, thank you. Do you guys know any people from Germany that know both the German and the English version? I´ll probably buy the VIZ ones anyway, but I´d still like to get some other opinions on this ^^

Okay so for Christmas my dad got me volume 65 and in some pages there like when nami uses "storm cloud rod" attack on the left side of the page there is like a big thick grey line, is it just my volume or was there a problem while printing and they all came out like that?
-
Sounds like a printing error. My copy is totally fine. Maybe you can bring it back to the bookstore to see if they have another one?
-
I changed today, turns out it was my volume :p
-
For Nura Rise of the Yokai Clan, should I continue to read the manga or watch the anime.
-
Just learned that SJA is no longer just renting the issues. They're for keeps now. Pretty sweet.
Kudos next week when SJA catches up to simultaneous release. Never thought this (SJA in general) could happen. It's cool how far they've gone.

Yep, it's a shame scanlations will continue to be a few days ahead though.

I wouldn't mind waiting a few days fore a superior product. To bad its not available in my country.
