Most of us just watched the announcement on the Wii U conference and saw this curve ball that is Bayonetta 2 Wii U exclusive.
Bayonetta 2

So does anyone want to buy a Wii U?
I'm gonna buy a Wii U?
I'm probably gonna buy ten Wii U's?
Doesn't Wii U look like a gorgeous console?
It's gonna be better than the PS4000 and the XBOX720^2 COMBINED!
NINTENDO! TAKE ME! MAKE LOVE TO ME!…...So yeah, I really wanted Bayonetta 2. Like...now.
-
The colors in the logo (Blue & Yellow) are the same as the ones on the Wii U boxes.
Anyway, this was a really unexpected announcement. I've been hoping for a sequel, but with SEGA downsizing I was worried it'd never come. Thank God for Nintendo.
Anway from Kellie on the SEGA forums:
I see there's some confusion, so let me clarify! Bayonetta 2 is being developed by Platinum Games and published by Nintendo. SEGA is working with both as an advisor to the project.
-
I'm not surprised because of Anarchy Reigns is apparently popular. (which I'm waiting for with pins and needles)
I'm looking forward to it all the same though.
-
Don't want to come off as a Wii U hater but… this is fucking stupid. This should be multiplatform. If it wasn't for the support the first game got on PS3/360 there wouldn't be a sequel. This is a major slap across the face of the fanbase. "Hey, thanks for giving us money and loving Bayonetta. You want the sequel? That'll be $360, thanks!"
Dammit, Platinum Games, you guys WERE flawless. On the bonus side hey, a reason to get a WiiU, but an insanely cheap and wrong reason.

Actually, if it wasn't for Nintendo there wouldn't be a sequel.
-
I'm honestly fine with this. I've been intending to buy a Wii U anyway, now I have an even bigger reason to do so.
-

Like Marcello said, Bayonetta 2 was already cancelled for whatever reason. If Nintendo hadn't have picked it up and funded it there wouldn't have been a sequel at all. Exclusives in this vein kind of annoy me as well but I'd say Nintendo is well within reason to have this as an exclusive since if it wasn't for them it wouldn't have existed in the first place.
-
With the news of Bayonetta 2, there is now a grand total of TWO games on the Wii U worth interest, the other being The Wonderful 101.
Good news: Hell yes a sequel to a great game(one of my fav from this gen), developed by Platinum Games themselves. I was very excited when I heard about the game earlier.
Bad news: It's on the Wii U. The people who played Bayonetta are largely PS3/360/PC people. This is likely not gonna sell well. Not many people are gonna buy a Wii U for this game, including myself. 1-2 games does not make a disappointing console any better. Sadly, since it's being published by Nintendo, it's doubtful it will be ported to a better console.
so it's like, gee thanks
-
Game's not going to sell well.
Sold amazingly in Japan.
Japan's gonna buy like fifty bajillion Wii Us cause it's Japan.
Like Bayonetta 2 won't get a 360/PS3 port at all. Cause Resident Evil 4 stayed on the Gamecube forever, right?Sorry, I'll stop using meme arrows/green text.
However, I love this game of, "IT'S BEING RELEASED ON A BAD/DISAPPOINTING CONSOLE". Do you have the console?
-
'Nobody will buy this one because everyone who played it was on the 360/PS3 (and none of them obviously owned a Wii. Guess that was just me)'
Seriously Nintendo/Sega/Platinum You need to double boot these guys in the crotch and announce a port of the first one for like £10 or something. Would be so hilarious
-
Do I want to buy a Wii U just for this game? No.
Will I do it nonetheless? Sadly… yes. '_'
-
Like Marcello said, Bayonetta 2 was already cancelled for whatever reason.
Isn't there a decent chance that reason was "hey, exclusivity contract"? Not trying to be snarky, but wouldn't that make sense?

Yeah, in Japan. Japan ain't the whole world. And the difference with a port in this case is that it's being published by Nintendo. If this game gets ported, it'd be a well-wanted miracle.
And it's Nintendo. They don't know how to do console gaming anymore, hence why the Wii U is expected to be mediocre at best by non-Nintendo fanboys.

Love to rephrase, eh? I've already been talking around on many gaming forums and most people are saying that they won't be getting this, some cause they flat out don't care about the Wii U. The people in support of this are a minority.
-
Welp. Say bye to the Bayonetta series or hope that it gets ported. Don't know what I can tell ya.
I've got plenty of reasons to buy the Wii U, and Bayonetta 2 is just one of them.

Then go complain at Sony and Microsoft for not picking it up earlier? I honestly don't see the problem with this. At least Nintendo's trying not to let the series just die. They noted that it had some fandom and are tying to monopolise on that. Giving the people what they want. Really. If you don't want to buy a Wii U then nothing has changed for you. You weren't gonna get the game anyway.

RE4, while initially a Gamecube exclusive, was still published by Capcom so they could do what they want. Resident Evil REmake and RE Zero however were published by Nintendo, which is why they,ve never been on anything but Gamecube and Wii.
-
Apparently Hideki Kamiya snuck into Sakurai's workplace, or vice-versa, not too long ago. It was dismissed as a wacky prank that those nips will get up to from time to time.
but what if?
what if they were talking about Bayonetta on the WiiU? Published by Nintendo? Which makes her eligible for inclusion in SSB4? WHAT IF??
-

Oh. Really? Oh well.
Either way, it was either that or the game doesn't come out for another 2-3 years.

Anarchy Reigns is being deemed as 'massively successful' and it hasn't even reached NA shores.
-
No matter how you look at it, this was a good decision on Ninty's part. Wii U is definitely looking a lot better after today.
-
I never expected this game to get made, and it's definitely something I want to consider since the first one was great (it was a pretty hard game too, which is rare).
I know I'll probably end up getting a Wii U but I'm really disappointed that they're basically releasing a PS3 but 6 years later.
@Big_Bad_Lith: Every time I see your avatar I remember the time my friend dressed up as The Cheese Stands Alone for Halloween.
-
im just glad they're finally making a sequel for Bayonetta. she definitely deserves one.
-
Damn I still have to play the first one but what if I really like it then I have to get a wii u…
Darn you nintendo!!! But no in all seriousness kudo's that they picked that game up. Now their line-up contains at least one game I'm interested in.
I still probably won't by one first day. RPG's are my bread and butter until they get their line up in that department together I'll wait. -

-
Yeah I know but 1 game isn't going to make me shell out 300 bucks. I didn't even get a wii although I own 3 wii games (skyward sword, xenoblade and last story). If there is only one have to play game I'll probably borrow one from a friend or something.
It's got to have at the very least like 8 games I want to have to make me even consider getting one.But I'll usually buy late into the cycle anyways. So I hope they succeed to get an interesting game library together until then.

Interesting. Considering the money Nintendo put into publishing this game I wouldn't be surprised if they suggest it at the least for SSB4.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And first post should be updated with news saying Nintendo is publishing this thus less people come in blindly and bitch about something without knowing why its exclusive and what not. But then again most people don't read beyond title anyway. As for me, haven't played first, so this is nothing big news to me.
As for Wii U. Damn totally forgot this system was coming out soon. Just spend lots of money on computer, might have to wait a bit to get the new system.
-

It was Sakurai sneaking into platinum games. And yeah, that could be possible
-
This is definitely awesome, and great for nintendo. Loved the first and how over the top it was.
–-
But man there sure are a lot of butthurt people over this games exclusivity, and they seem to be bombarding platinum games twitter with hate. Its a damn shame fools like this probably make japanese devs hate us in at least some way. Sure am glad i dont limit myself to one system, because it creates these kinds of creatures.
Warning for sheer ignorance
[hide]
-
And people thought I was being ridiculous just calling it stupid. I wish I watched the video before reading the tweets, funny shit.
-
I want to believe that this is a problem of ignorance with people not knowing that there wouldn't have been a bayonetta 2 otherwise instead of people being stupid about it…
I mean I don't like it either but really in today's day and age I congratulate any company willing to fund projects that are rather unique/risky and are thus usually rejected.
-
So i guess the first Bayonetta was that good?
Never got around playing it, so might pick it up soon. -
Going back to sales talk, I don't think Nintendo expects this to be a huge seller. They said they want the "hardcore" crowd back, right? Well, Bayonetta and Rayman Origins were recieved really well by critics and fans, but didn't exactly set the world on fire (Though, I don't think they bombed either), so I feel Nintendo is trying to win over some of the more niche "hardcore" fans.
Could be wrong, though.
-
lol. there's so much butthurt XD
I'm happy. The first bayonetta was really, really good and so i have high hopes for this one.

On September 13, 2012 Bayonetta 2 was announced as an exclusive title under development for the Wii U during the Nintendo Direction presentation held on the same day.
As game developers, we are incredibly excited to be able to announce a new title to all of our fans; however, we are aware that the announcement may have come as a shock to many of you.As with Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 is under development and production here at PlatinumGames, and is a true sequel to the acclaimed first game in the series. Bayonetta is one of our most beloved titles, and it played a large part in establishing PlatinumGames as an emerging game studio in the minds of users worldwide. Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of PlatinumGames.
That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with SEGA, the previous game’s publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo.
Along with their new hardware, Nintendo, as a company, is dedicated to establishing a new future for the games industry, as you can tell by their record of passionate support for gaming. Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.
We hope that you will look forward to what we have in store.Tatsuya Minami
President & CEO, PlatinumGames Inc.I’m Yusuke Hashimoto, director of Bayonetta 2. It has been three years since Bayonetta, a title I was also a part of… I’m incredibly happy to be able to announce that we are working on a sequel. Alongside Bayonetta’s creator, Hideki Kamiya, I’m working on everything from creating a compelling world to character designs (I will be designing the enemies again), and everyone on our talented team is united around the core of Bayonetta, Climax Action, in an effort push the series forward. For empowering our heroine with incredible new action to introducing new characters (which you may have noticed in the teaser trailer), Bayonetta will further expand on the mythology of the Trinity of Realities – Inferno, Paradiso, and our human world. I can’t wait to take the journey with you.
Yusuke Hashimoto
Director, Bayonetta 2After Bayonetta was released, I was coming back on the bullet train with Yusuke Hashimoto, pondering various ideas for sequels or spin-offs to Bayonetta over a beer. I never thought we’d actually get to announce a sequel to her story, so I am absolutely over the moon.
Even though there has been a bit of a gap since the release of the last game, but I still got lots of request for a sequel from gamers. We were secretly making one the entire time. While I am not the director of this game, I am still supervising the world, story, characters, etc. in close coordination with Hashimoto, and I have been from the very beginning. You have nothing to work about on that end. And of course, plenty of members from the first Bayonetta are on-board and working hard under the direction of Hashimoto, so I look forward to work every day, coming in and seeing all the progress they have made on the game. With new hardware, we look forward to expanding on the Climax Action of Bayonetta, so sit tight and get ready!

Sad how it seems many gamers would rather there be NO Bayonetta 2 than have it on said console they dislike for some reason.

I'd say again, it's probably more ignorance that there wouldn't be a Bayonetta 2 if Nintendo wasn't funding it.

A large part of it is that a LOT of gamers have given up on Nintendo consoles due to the disaster that is the Wii. Then having a game that is so wanted be put on the new Nintendo console. It's completely out of left field, and it's like a huge slap in the face to a large amount of fans, as evidenced by the huge amount of hate this thing is getting. It wouldn't be as disappointing if Bayonetta 2 just didn't happen.

disaster? The wii was by no means a bad console, Nintendo tried to force "waggle" a little too hard, but there were plenty of decent games. I swear people hate the wii because it's just "cool" to do it.
I also doubt some of these people have even played Bayonetta and are causing a shit storm because LOL "Nintendo".
-
I like how nobody has brought up Metal Gear Solid. 1, 2 and 3 are multi-platform yet 4 is still a PS3 exclusive. Guess they need to stop slapping in people's faces and make sure the next one comes out on all of the consoles. Including 3DS and Vista.
IIRC Skyrim was a multiplatform game but the 360 is getting the DLC as exclusive. What about all those people who bought it on the PS3?

Now hold on. I'd rather have bayonetta 2 come out even if it was for a console i wasn't interested in, just so that there is one. Better knowing there is a sequel to a good game that you can't play than not one at all because you never know what might happen down the line. What if the wii u turns out to be incredibly succesful? then people would be glad a bayonetta 2 was made than it not.
Also wasn't the wii the most succesful financially? i'm pretty sure that more houses own a wii than a 360/ps3 even if most of them households aren't gamers.
-
Truthfully, I could see myself buying a Wii U before a nextgen xbox and playstation since I figure most of my favorite games on the latter two will have a lot of the games on the PC anyway.

MGS1 was PS only but released for PC a while after. MGS3 was only for PS2 I think until the HD collections.
Skyrim DLC is exclusive mostly because of a combination of the PS3 being difficult to program for and Bethesda being terrible at programming.

The Wii was the point when Nintendo became a sellout. Most of their franchises are stale or suck now - the only real good stuff left is Fire Emblem and Pokemon, but the the developers for those games are actually consistently good. People pull the "ignorant" and "cool to do it" stuff up when they can't admit to the fact that Nintendo just isn't what it used to be, pretends to be blind to their faults, or is too forgiving of the company. But hey, loltendo.

Well of course the Wii was a financial success, but it came at the cost at a large chunk of Nintendo's old fanbase. The Wii was sold for relatively cheap and was marketed towards casuals. And of course, most of the first party console games were pretty mediocre-below average with a lack of must have third party exclusives. Personally, I just use the Wii for playing Gamecube games now. At least their handhelds are still rockin'.
And it should be very understandable why people are upset that Bayo 2 is on the Wii U. Just use google and find some gaming forums to find a more in-depth discussion on that. I haven't seen a game cause this much of a war since FFXIII went multiplatform.

Is this a joke ?

"Nintendo doesn't care about real gamers anymore! They only care about grandmas and children now!"
All I fucking hear.
Although I find it quite funny that the common complain of the Wii is that it didn't have any "hardcore" (emphasis on the quotes) games, but the moment that it DOES have "hardcore" games, "NOOOOO! HOW DARE THEY!"
-
Is this a joke ?
To be honest, its not 100% true, but you can't tell me that you still get excited when Nintend re-re-re-release a game or does stuff like Nintendo Land or Wii Music. I mean yea New Super Mario Bros is a fun series, but damn is it super old.
-

Nintendo Land is severely different from Wii Music. SEVERELY. Nintendo Land is not only supposed to be the Wii Sports equal for the Wii U, but it's going to be able to update with more games themed not only after Nintendo games, but third party games. For a Wii Sport type deal, that's pretty fucking cool.
Also, if you're only going for Nintendo consoles for only Nintendo games, you're doing it wrong.
-
But New Super Mario Bros. Wii freshened things up with 4-player co-op. Even ignoring that, it was a great game. Both Galaxy games were fantastic. Skyward Sword was great, despite it's flaws. Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland, too. The only real hiccups I see are Pokemon Battle Revolution and Other M. To say their franchises besides Pokemon and Fire Emblem suck now is stupid.
And Nintendo Land looks like a fun game, though irrelevant here as this is about old franchises.
-

I'm with my man Silver here. Nintendo's mainstasy franchises are good quality and all, but the new yearly Mario bros trend has even sapped the excitement out of their most iconic figure. I don't even think the games, despite their definitively solid build, feel that great due to the sort of uninspiredness behind it all. I know the first New Super Mario Bros certainly didn't quite do it for me and I'm still on that fence with the Wii games.
I hear the 3DS ones are kinda new feeling, but I still haven't played those
Skyward Sword also didn't really do it for me and I can't get pumped about Zeldas until I get my hands on them, I think now.
But the important thing here is that Nintendo is getting third party support, which the Wii never had, here and that's great. The Microsoft strategy: buy up a bunch of guys to secure a launch. And uh, for the first time in history, this actually looks like one of the most capable lauches I've ever seen. 101, Bayo 2, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3U. I'm not sure if those are all launch titles or just announced, though, so I can't be talking it up too much.
But we'll see how it goes. Personally, I think the Wii U could really be a good turnaround and I'm excited to see what creative things people can come up with for the Wii Pad, because parallel gaming where you're playing with somebody but not in the same way, could be kinda awesome if it doesn't turn into boring bullshit like in Mario Galaxy where you just point a cursor around while your friend plays.
