Watched the first disc three times, only watched the first episode on the second disc. I'm doing my best to ration it… Few comments...
The crew sounds perfect. The sound bites from the clips made them sound off, but watching all the episodes straight through, they sound normal. I'm curious if they dubbed 206 way back when, or just recently.
It's a bit jarring to be watching english episodes with japanese themes. I can't wait for Kokoro to be dubbed, as great of a japanese song it is. I agree with the people saying they might not have dubbed one of the themes because it would be weird having an episode with an english opening and japanese ending. I'm curious which one was the real problem, and why.
Foxy's voice is growing on me, but I think we should generally keep the cardinal rule of there being no unnecessary accents in the dub. Foxy's VA definitely isn't as great as Funi was raving though, at least not for me. I understand why they did it though. There've been so many outrageous voices on One Piece so far, it's hard to be fresh without a quirky flair...
They said bastard three or four times on one disc. They're cursing a lot more than usual (I think they only said it 4 times in total in the first three seasons). I like the additional cursing. I think Fozy's been called a bastard numerous times.
Sanji says Nami-swan 2 or 3 times on the first disc. I don't like it personally because it's inconsistent and sounds a bit off in the english version.
These episodes are the funniest in the series so far. I'm enjoying the anime version of this arc loads more than the manga version. It's much more humerous.
The animation is stunning. It'll be hard for me to go back to the 4:3 version of the show. As gorgeous as the animation is, I do tend to feel myself wishing that it was truely high def. I've been spoiled with FMAB blurays for the past few weeks, so I quickly notice the difference. The upscaling must really be doing its job though, because the episodes really do look like low-res HD.
EDIT: Voyage Three is the set that everyone is waiting for. I looked it up, and there's no way to disinclude the Aokiji fight in the next set. They've got two more 12 episode sets and two more 11 episode sets. Here's the lineup:
Voyage Two Possibilities:
1. Foxy Final Fight, Filler, Aokiji Fight. (ep. 218-228 - Eleven Episodes) MORE LIKELY
2. Foxy Final Fight, Filler, Aokiji Fight, first episode of Water 7 arc. (ep. 218-229 - Twelve Episodes)
Voyage Three Possibilities:
1. Final episode is Galley-La accusing Luffy of shooting Iceberg. (229-239 - Eleven Episodes)
2.Robin gives Sanji and Chopper the bad news. (230-240 - Eleven Episodes)
3. Robin gives Sanji and Chopper the bad news. (229-240 - Twelve Episodes)
4. Galley-La shipwrights line up outside of Iceberg's door before Agua Laguna. (230-241 - Twelve Episodes)
We'll get Luffy vs Usopp no matter what on the third set. The three episodes that the set has the possibility of ending on aren't critical episodes. Maybe Robin telling Sanji and Chopper the news would be the best episode to leave us on.
