Has anybody else read this manga? It's pretty funny and the ridiculousness of the premise alone makes it worth checking out. Apparently an anime is coming out in the Fall, so I thought I make a topic.
The World God Only Knows

It's a visual novel buff's innocent pleasure, I will say that. One of the few manga I'm actually reading concurrently, along with OP and BL.
-
i read it to, but i hope they don`t go the same way as mahou sensei negima.
-
Its really a great series and the points about making BIG first impressions, and then later changing it from x,y, and z into love, love, and love (stated in ch 32 or so) has worked for me so many times
-
I hope more visual novels get parodied beyond the simple stock characters. Thus far "Yokkyun" is the direct parody of a visual novel, I'd like to see characters like from Saya no Uta or Ever17.
-
I'd like to see parodies of / references to Type-Moon, Digital Object, or AliceSoft's Rance. The latter might be a bit off in left field though.
-
I'm glad somebody else has read it. I'm a big fan of the main character's, "I can already see the ending!" It reminds me of Kenshiro.
Also, "Kami-nii-sama" has got to be the funniest way to refer to someone ever.
-
One more week till the anime premieres. This is one of those mangas I thought the art alone mandated that it be animated. But with the solid story and humor I hoped it would. So far however it looks a little disappointing. It seems like Manglobe is going for a more moe romance feel instead of a comdey with some romantic aspects. But I'll have to see a episode or two before I have a strong opinion about it. Maybe it'll be fine and my expectations are too high.
-
Hmmm…I hope they use the comedy as their baseline. It's more prevalent than the romance, that's for sure.
-
I'm in the opposite camp. While I agree the comedy balances well with the romance, Keima's CV is notoriously obnoxious in all of his comedy roles, a role that forces a more serious performance might be less grating.
-
Just watched the first episode. I thought it was really good; they struck a good balance between the comedy and romance, and of course employed Kiema's ultimate pick-up line: "I can already see the ending!"
-
As feared, Keima's CV sucks, and is the worst casting decision of the whole year. I can't believe someone blew something like this, the series must not be as high profile as I'd originally imagined.
Everything looks top-notch but it's really rushed.
-
I have to agree that his voice actor wasn't very appropriate. Maybe he'll get better. Else has a really good CV though; it fits her perfectly. And the first episode is always rushed since it comprises a 50ish page manga chapter.
-
He won't.
I've been following Shimono since before he got big, ever since his first major role as Ikuto in Nagasarete Airantou. As Ikuto, he was more serious than any of the roles he took after that, but while he was appropriate for Ikuto, his style of voice was never meant for a character with class and intelligence like Keima. It clashes.
Elyse is perfect of course, her CV is well known as the lovely Saten from Raildex. I was very happy with that casting choice, in comparison to Keima.
Apparently S2 was already green-lit, so this is likely going to be a 12 episode anime. Sad. :(

This post is deleted!

I'm fine with Keima's VA…
Anyway, this series has promise. I'll definitely be checking the others out.
-
I love this manga, so I was already excited about the anime…
...and then I found out that the charadesigns are done by Watanabe Akio, who happens to be my favorite artist.
So yeah, Zenigame happy.
-
Episode one was pretty good; it was solid and showed the series was doing a good job of adapting the manga.
Episode two knocked my socks off. Everything was handled amazingly well, especially Elsie being hilarious and clumsy, Kiema's girl-game-based explanations and the scene with the mom. I seriously hope the series can stay at this level.
-
What I think I like the most about this series, is that it could totally have gone overboard with ecchi, yet doesn't, for the most part.
recently, it's picked up a bit, but this series is classy, on the whole.
-
i also like the lightness about the series. i hope i doesn't become to serious, because it just wouldn't fit in
-
Yeah, episode two was really well done. I have hopes for the rest of this series.
-
watching the anime it's pretty good.
-
I loved Kiema using the contra code for dancing.

Anyone else see Layton's Seal in chapter 124? I don't suppose there's an explanation?
-
I haven't been keeping up with the manga, but I do love Layton. Could you link the page?
-
Hahahaha, that chapter. Looks like Yui wants in on the game as well!

The bottom two panels on the book she's holding.

@Harvady:
Anyone else see Layton's Seal in chapter 124? I don't suppose there's an explanation?
It's just another random reference, like the approximately 50 billion others like it in the series. I seriously doubt there was any meaning behind it.
-
It's kind of funny how the anime and manga are suddenly concerned with the same librarian character right now.
Also thanks for posting the Layton reference.
-
The last episode of this season (apparently a second one is coming) was, for lack of a better word, Godly.
-
I'm waiting for the latest chapter myself, I hear it comes out today.
I don't really understand the season thing with this anime, since the second season was announced fairly early on despite the show's low ratings. At that, why not make a single two-season anime instead of two seperate anime series?
-
The anime got low ratings? I thought it's done a very good job. The voices were good and the soundtrack is also very good.
The anime prompted me to read the manga, and it only gets better and better. I'm not quite caught up, but I'm at the point where Diana (in Tenri) asks Keima to search for the other two goddesses. I was wondering how the author could keep this going without it getting too formulamatic after a few years, and this was well done. Looking forward to reading the rest.
-
I'm still not caught up on the manga, but I think I'll get around to it after I finish JoJo part 4. I love the culture shock involved in switches between the two.

That's what really hooked me, the series had a lot of promise from the start - an obviously flawed male lead, a formula, and numerous ways to improve on the challenge of each capture event. When stuff started to get tough for Keima, starting with…Chihiro's capture, I think, I realized the author knew what he was doing.
I'm amazed though that you're reading a VN parody manga without the VN backing CR. D: You might be missing a lot of the references...Get to the VN topic, pronto!
Also, yeah, the anime's been getting low ratings, but I don't know anything about the time-slot or the DVD sales. I can say I stopped watching the anime completely because of Keima's failure CV. Ratings were top during the idol capture (Kanon), but have been low otherwise.
checks MF
New CHAPTER YO!

His voice still annoys me a bit, but I enjoy the anime in spite of it. You should definitely watch 12th episode if you can, Terek. It's that stand-alone chapter near the beginning of the manga where Keima has to catch up on all his games.
-
I still don't get why everyone hates Keima's voice. It fits him perfectly IMO. You can't say he is not a goofy character. Yes, he most definitely has very serious and intellectual moments, but when I see him turning into freaking Mario and random game/cartoon characters in the manga, there's no way I can't say he's got a goofy side to him. I think the VA does well portraying both.
The anime did a fine job with all the captures, I believe. Especially Kanon and Shiori.
And Terek, what do you mean by VN parody? Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea what you meant.
-
didn't like the last episode of season one hopefully seaosn 2 will be good was still a good show overall.
-
I've been reading the manga, only watched the first episode of the anime. I probably should try and watch the rest if it's really a faithful adaptation. But it's definately on top of my to-follow list nowadays.
I have little experience with these kinds of games, but it's still fun to spot all those references you mentioned earlier. I mean, the moment I started reading this, I thought that Keima's apparel must be an homage to Austin Powers.
-
Well, the final episode of the season was awesome, but Keima's singing at the end… shudder I stick by what I said about his seiyuu, but I will admit that song at the end was the worst thing I've ever heard in any anime series, yet it had me on the floor rolling.
And the Hakua cameo at the end was awesome. Can't wait for season 2! But at least for the time being I have the manga to catch up on.
Also, a little cameo from Hakua's buddy was shown (the ugly woman that delivers that drink.)

It was almost unbearable, but it was in the manga, so I guess they decided to go for it.

Yes, I do recall the scene. It was still funny and had the same impact of uncomfortableness. Basically it's supposed to stress on his freakish side, lol.
-
Almost caught up with the manga now. I have no idea why I stopped reading; every chapter is hilarious! And the art style changes with the mood so well from panel to panel.
-
The latest chapters haven't been too funny, but they've got some sweet sweet Hakua x Keima moments and I love how Keima's acting sort of a gamer lost without a walkthrough, although in spite of his stumbling about he's on the right track.
-
Haven't made it there yet. Just found out the teacher
! is a super demon!
-
I'm getting close to being caught up.
I just finished the arc with the dojo girl's older sister becoming a giant. (I cannot remember their names atm for some reason.) This story is getting better and better! It's almost a shame I'm almost caught up. :(
The most intelligent arc I've seen so far was the Yui arc. Yes, the whole body switching gender-bender thing is not new and I usually don't like it much, but with someone like Keima, it's the best thing for his character. And he seems to be slowly opening up to reality a little, as he basically openly admitted he cares about the girls he helped, like when he wished Mio good luck. And himself being captured by his own body was a genius way to wrap up that story.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next here. I'm liking how this goddess stuff is being incorporated with new characters and old characters.
And the teacher turning out to be part of Hell… I usually see these things coming, but this really caught me off guard!
-
Ah, we seem to be basically at the same point.
Else is so freaking funny; I liked that extra thing called "The World a Little Demon Only Knows" where it shows what she was up to during scenes from the previous arc.

Yeah, that's the chapter I literally just finished last night.
And Elsee is definitely cute. I can't deny that. I like a majority of the girls, but my favorites are probably Elsee, Hakua, Tenri/Diana, Kanon and Shiori.
-
Damn episode 4 was annoying!
–> Yes? No?

Damn episode 4 was annoying!
:ninja:
-
Best Elysee line:
"Kami nii-sama, you fell in love with guys?"
…
didn't watch episode 4, dropped the anime after episode 1 due to Keima's fail CV
The manga's really kicking it up though, it's a pain it's only one chapter/week, this arc would be better in bulk.
I'm also getting annoyed with the recent fans. >>; Seems like some Hayate the Combat Butler moe-lovers have descended on TWGOK, and are completely oblivious to the characterization and the visual novel parodies. Not in the, "I'm not familiar with this, but it's cool" kind of way, but the "what's a galge she's so hawt :3" herp derp. --
-
But I don't know anything about galge either and I enjoy this series quite a bit.
I loved the anime, but it has also become one of my favorite mangas. I am caught up completely, btw. This goddess arc is the best in the story so far IMO. Seeing Keima stepping into reality a little to save Kanon is really improving on his character a lot, even if he is pretty much screwing 5 girls at the same time.
It's just a shame I am all caught up. I was having so much fun reading 15 or so chapters a night. >> Anyway, I also read the newest chapter.
! So… Any thoughts on what will happen with the other girl? Miyoki, I believe her name is?
