Well… Anyways... What did everyone think of the new voices?

Crocodile: It's alright. It's better than in Grand Battle, but still not sinister enough. But it's okay to me.

Ms. All Sunday: I kinda like her voice. It'd be better without the accent though.

Mr.2 Bon Clay: Meh. I do get a few chuckles from it though.

Ace: I love his dub voice. Exactly how I pictured him to sound. If only he didn't get a stupid name change, he would've been perfect.

Cobra: Ehh... Nothing really bad about it. But nothing really good about it either. Then, he too has a stupid name change....

Well, whenever a court case arises they always call it a "Copyright infringement" but the original point is 4kids had a good reason to change it. They rarely change anime names so its probably some kind if legal reason.

Ah, well, here I am…I was at work all day, and I taped the episode, and just finished watching it.

Few notes:

I honestly didn't think this was a horrile episode. There wasn't really much that they had to edit, it was mostly an expositional episode. There were a few odd things I noticed, though:

Chopper's insult dance was turned into a completely happy dance. Not good.
Vivi said Mr. 9 was a double agent. WRONG.
Usopp to Luffy: "you haven't made sense in years". Um, you haven't known him for more than a few months, Usopp.
And of course, Nebra and Trace...wierd. There's no legal reason for those changes, I assure you.

However, I was pleasantly surprised with all the new voices. Ace was actually GREAT and portrayed perfectly. The only thing that pisses me off, is that I think SANJI probably should have had that voice...
Crocodile and NEBRA are alright.

And I hate to say it again, but it's true...I like Bon Clays' voice, I think it's a crack-up. XD

Trace makes me think of Tracy from Pokemon though. :p

I read all of that, and pretty much argee, but people complain about it, because they want to see a good dub anime, so they DONT have to watch it in subs, but in english. Thats what its like for me anyhow. Thats all from me… lol

joe i agreed for the most of the way through that big long thing but then i started thinking. and im gonna start with this, spell defend right! it drives me crazy when you spell it defand.

anyway it is human nature to be slaves to fiction. whether it be books,games,cartoons,live action shows, its all fiction but its something we enjoy something we care about so its natural to defend. or at least thats the way i see it.

Not 100% serious about it, I rarly complianed about the dub, what bothers me that everyone goes crazy overdone. well batdan stick to the complaining. nothing anyone does will make a difference. and as has been said many times before 4kids doesn't care about people or one piece or any of their other shows, they have them purley for the merchandise. now that choppers here hes gonna be a gold mine for 4kids. and before you know it they'll be spewing out 100 crappy games, one piece monopoly, one piece risk, one piece chess, one piece model kits, one piece shaped candy and fruit snacks, and thats all i got for now

edit: joe. well i meant the usual complainers that complain seem like they might be doing it for fun. and most of the time when i defend something its when a friend or someone i can joke around with says it sucks. its kind of a mock arguement and not something real. and well i never said anything about addictions. its something people do for fun not a bad habit. i know people you could say are addicted to sports but its just a different way to ammuse themselves. i play videogames alot and im still healthy and physically fit, i don't see it as a bad habit at all.

Well. This is the First time for me hearing Robin's dub voice. It wasn't as bad as I expected. At least it sounds like the lady doing the voice knows who she is playing. Bon clay terrifies me to no end. Ace to Trace? WHy wouldn't those Idiots Keep Ace? The Word ace is not offensive in anyway… At least I think it isn't.

And did anyone notice that Crocodile's Trademark scar in the middle of his face is gone? It looked like it to me at least. But Croc's voice isn't that bad. Why on God's Green Earth would they Change Miss Merry Christmas to Miss Groundhog's day? (Okay, stupid question. Moving On!) Miss Golden week to Miss April Fools day? Miss Double Finger to Miss. New year's eve?

@lalala: One Piece barely has any American merch. It only has Grand Battle, and toys (toys by Mattel). Plus, the way they dubbed it. It doesn't have a big American fanbase.

Maybe they will come up with crazier things, maybe they'll actually be faithful to the original. We'll have to find out.

@Devilfruitgrower: What I noticed is that Crocodile had Chaser syndrome. Meaning he had smoke coming out of his mouth for no reason. Smoker can make an exception since he has the Moku Moku no Mi but Crocodile is a Sandman so the smoke is yet another plot hole.

After Mr. 2's speech about how they were supposed to kill Mr. 3 now made it offical that the cutting of Little Garden was a late decision and was only done to get to Chopper faster.

Yeah, that was a dumb move 4kids made. Why could they just dub Little Garden and be patiant about the Chopper thing? They thought Chopper would save the ratings but they are horrible in predicating their future. They are horrible planners and they don't orgenize things. Their attitudes are 'Whatever'. So here it is and here's a lighter to burn the anime.

I know I've said this before but I called 4Kids once and asked about Little Garden. The response? They said it was licensing issues that couldn't be explained. Maybe it was a mistake to say I was 15.

But after that plothole, maybe I'll call them again and ask the same thing and if they say the same thing then I will say A-HA CAUGHT YOU with Sean Connery (maybe not the Connery part).

In the Luffy vs. Crocodile fights, Croc. is going to use a million sand puns. When Luffy gets dehydrated in the dub, he'll probably be mummified. It'll be too graphic for young children to see Luffy's body completely dried out.

I also agree. And at times I get the feeling Viz is translating it properly rather than following 4Kids. We'll know more in a few months when Smoker shows up.

But you have to remember. Viz and 4Kids are in cahoots. But that's what Funimation told me when I talked to them last year at a convention.

But what I don't get is why change it to Zolo after two years of Zoro. Makes no f'ing sense.

I am aware of the fact Viz and 4Kids are in cahoots. I once heard Viz say that in the future any series that featues in SJ can only be dubbed by 4Kids or Sho Pro/Viz. However, Shaman King uses the original names and terms (bar furyoku) rather than the ones 4Kids used. There might still be hope in my eyes.

Anyway, the name changes sound pretty bad and pointless in my eyes. And the fact Crocodile is "breathing smoke" is perhaps one of the worst changes they've made to date. It's almost as if they don't want to put any effort in the series. However like the rest of the dub I've decided not to bother watching it if/when it has a UK release.

I was actually taken in a bit by the Drum Arc, which aside from some stupidities, was not that bad by comparison. How foolish I was.

Somewhere down the line, 4Kids is going to murder either Crocodile or Robin's character by having them utter some variant of the line: "Won't you be my Nebra?" In which case, I will retaliate with a Doomday Device. I sincerely apologize in advance for killing you all, but I can't take a chance on missing the people responsible.

Trace? … I dread what they'll do to Blackbeard as I doubt Teach will fare any better than Ace.

Bon Clay's voice is... well, I really don't know how I feel about that.

Crocodile's voice is not really imposing enough for my tastes.

Bon clays is horrible and there are too many plot holes. How did usopp know about mr.5 when he was sleeping in whiskey peak, or sanji know about the unluckies when he was alsleep. Too many goddamn plot holes. Crocidiles voice is average. Though i do like it. I'm also loving robins voice. She sounds so sexy. Not as good as the orginal but still its so sexy. And i guess its the spirt of d now in the dub. Vivi cant act worth crap even when shes a child. Though that might not be the vas fault cuz the producer couldve told her to go in that direction. Also cobra got his name changed…(his voice is bad IMO)

wow, just about 200 posts on the new thread in less than 24 hours. Well, I guess I'll put in my two cents.

I was most displeased by them changing Chopper's happy dance dialog from "your not making me happy" to "oh yeah, I rock!" not did I like the whole "We animals talk the talk and walk the walk bit." It changes Chopper's whle personality. It makes him more extraverted. I also felt the scene of them discovering he was a doctor was also ruined. Instead of the cool reindeer/emergencey food supply response they just had wow, cool!
