Alright. New things are happening and here's the deal.
I left my job. Or did I quit? Eh? What's the difference? I suppose this would make no sense unless I start form the very beginning.
Two months ago, my mom recommended me temporary job that was supposed to last 2-3 weeks. Her boss needed someone to do this thing called Fire Watching. Basically I keep an eye on the building for fire since the apartments is changing and testing their alarm systems. Long story short, I was saving the company thousands of dollars for doing this since it was required by law to have someone on watch. But the job went on alot longer than it was supposed to.
They were paying me 50 dollars a day for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. I'm not sure why they paid so low for that amount of hours, but I didn't complain at first. It was my first job afterall. Now that my job is clear, here's the actual story.
My mom does cleaning there. She's an illegal immigrant, and they pay her minimum wage(while everyone else is otherwise). Today her(or our) boss demanded a job that required mom to climb a ladder. As silly as this sounds, about a year, ago she was asked to do this same exact thing…. And she fell down. She told the boss and her reaction was no sympathy or anything. This event bought it up today, and mom said that she didn't have insurance to cover any injuries would get if she feel from the ladder again. And for some reason she was fired... just for bringing that up.
I was really disgusted by this. I mean... Firing her over something like this? Sure, the company would have been viable if she were injured on the job with no insurance, but it didn't mean they never have other alternatives for mom to do that job(like a long window wiper). I'm sure this whole situation goes alot deeper than this. I mean, the people basically take complete advantage of her to a point that she's longer a human being. One time she takes her lunch hour for a fitness course. They they told her to stop going and take her lunch in the office. Some people were throwing shit(yes, shit) in bag with ice outside the building and they told HER to clean it up, when no else wanted to. There's a whole bunch of other things too and it's sad.... that she could not really do anything about it at the risk of losing the job.
As for me.. well you can already tell. They were taking advantage of me too. Just recently that have added insult to injury by giving me these other little tasks that no one else wanted to do. Like... stapling rubber bands to these brochure things. About 500 sheets. And then they got the nerve to tell me to go in the buildings I watch to bind these brochures to the tenant's doors. Off course, I could not argue or say no either. That would have looked bad on me and my mom who already worked there. Now it all comes down to what happened today. If I stayed there any longer, they would have exploited me further. That, and I'd probably end up making a complete ass of myself due the amount of frustration that resulted from today's events.
So I did the mature thing. I went to the office and proclaimed that today was my last day with the reason that I needed a better job. The boss asked me agian before I left. She asked me if there was anything that came up. Sure all of this mess was part of the reason I withdrew, but realistically... I really DO need a better job... so I stuck with my reason and told her just that. I can't support my family and the house with this scrap change and crazy ass hours.
I hope this was clear. I'm not good at being profound... but yeah. I'm looking for another job now.

First of all, I have to say that I'm pretty horrified to read of you and your mom's ordeal with this employer. You are absolutely correct when you state that they were taking advantage of you, and the fact that they would use your mother's employment there as a figurative axe above your head to exploit you further is low and outrageous. What they were doing was not only unethical (to put it mildly), it was also illegal. And even though I know this is a stressful and uncertain time in your life, and that you need employment, I too am glad that you and your mom are no longer working there because I don't like the thought of my friend and his family being treated like shit. You both deserve so much better.
I don't know what else I can say other than to offer encouragement that yes, there are more jobs out there and that I know you and your mom will be able to find something, even if it takes some time. Please don't feel sad and hopeless even though things are very overwhelming right now, because I know you will find a way. And please don't ever hesitate to let me know if there's anything I can do to support you through this, hun. Even if it's only a FB message, I'm here for you if you ever need to talk.
You are strong and courageous Hiroy, don't ever doubt that. Your friends love you and believe in you, and I want you to believe that things will get better, because they will.
And in the meantime, lean on us for support if you need to. That's why we're your friends - to be there for you when things get rough.
