You're making me want to read Blade of the Immortal, really.
And re-start Vagabond while I'm at it.

I was wondering if people could tell me the must see anime movies
so far I've been looking up critically acclaimed anime movies and have found these
Akira
Prophecy
Fist of the North star
Ninja Scroll
Ghost Shell
Spirited Away
Perfect Blue
Sword of the Stranger
Vampire Hunter D
Grave of the Fire Flies
Howl’s moving castle
REDLINE
Princess Mononoke
Paprika
any others would be great to know, thank you!
Fist of the North Star's movie is sufficient for your whole life.
Hell, the movie's Rei vs Raoh is sufficient for your whole life.
Or you can add My Neighbor Totoro.
Spirited Away
Grave of the Fire Flies
Howl’s moving castle
Princess Mononoke
Replace Howl with Nausicca, Laputa, Kiki, Totoro, and Porco Rosso.
BTW, I'm one of the rare few that likes Porco Rosso the most. That movie's got more testosterone than all other Ghibli films combined. :ninja:
Nostalgic value is Laputa for me though, It left such an impression in my youth when I saw it in theaters back in the mid 80s, I watched it over 3 dozen times since then.
I've really gotta watch more Miyazaki.
Started reading Please Jeeves. Which is based on the Jeeves novels by Wodehouse. As a somehow fan of the tv series Jeeves and Woosters and novels by Wodehouse ( it is a genre by itself) I like the series, it is quirky and idiotic like the novels.
A link.

There are other die-hard fans or Porco Rosso?! This movie is so underrated, it hurts physically just thinking about it.The whole interwar period atmosphere combined with the typical light-hearted Ghibli-esque characterization; simply great.
Isn't Porco Rosso Miyazaki's favorite?
Mononoke's my favorite, but all of them are pretty amazing.

Porco Rosso has his most consistent narrative beginning to end (save, perhaps, Castle in the Sky). And it's charming. Certainly in contention for my favorite, too.

Cage of Eden: 8,5/10 -Drama - Horror - Psychological - Action. Anyone reading this series? It is great imo.
Cage of Eden, in my opinion, is absolutely dreadful. Most of the characters are cliches, too much underage fanservice, plot points are pretty melodramatic…
Have read every chapter. Have no idea why. But no matter how bad I think it is from a technical standpoint, I just can't stop.
I quite like Cage of Eden, of course the fact that they can go one on one against some animals and win is something that really bothers me.
Well, I just kinda like the "survival of the fittets" concept.
Well, I just kinda like the "survival of the fittets" concept.
Well, as I was trying to point out, there's something about it that appeals to me despite me disliking it in most ways.
Anyways, judging from your list (and this probably won't help at all if it wasn't an exhaustive list), you might be a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist. Same mix of comedy/action as several of the series you mentioned, with good characters and a solid/consistent plot. Also might give Toriko a glance (fits into the general model of the shonen you like) or Death Note (same guys as Bakuman, less comedy but a page-turning first half).

Just a friendly advice: Despite what others may tell you, don't bother with Battle Royale.
I picked up the first volume of battle royale about 3 years ago, and while the premise intrigued me at first, i thought the art (especially the faces) was ugly so i never bothered with more.
@Nidhoeggr: Thanks for the peace of mind.
Hello everyone. I've been meaning to immerse myself in stories these days, and so I'm looking for a good manga to read. Specifically, something a bit intellectual, and emotional, but not too arty or snobbish, if that makes sense, and I'm sure there's tons I've been missing out on. Oh, here's a list of things I've read and really enjoyed, hopefully that can give you some idea of where my tastes are. Please disregard whatever system of ordering I use, just pretend that I like them all the same.
One Piece, obviously. Mostly for the character growth and immersion more than anything else, really.
Fullmetal Alchemist, the manga moreso than any adaptation.
Gintama, most of the time.
The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer
Onani Master Kurosawa
Vinland Saga
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Please keep in mind that my taste in manga is incredibly fickle, so I'm open to as many suggestions as you can throw at me. Thanks in advance, everyone.

Read Hunter X Hunter man. You'll love it!

Oyasumi PunPun and Vagabond.

@E7x:

Fist of the North Star, Gunnm, 7 Seeds, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Eden - It's an Endless World, Basara, to an extent Akira.

There was a series recent enough I read called btoom
I have'nt read a lot of it myself yet because…I just have'nt got around to it, but it was good from what I read and would fit.

Not as good but it's alright.

Desert Punk
The Arms Peddler
Blame! and Biomega

Why not? He should feel the rage I felt for reading it. I hate that fat guy and Kamiya soo much.

Somebody already said it, but I'm going to suggest you read Vagabond. The manga adaptation of the epic novel Musashi could not have been done any better. And it's coming back from a long hiatus too. Definitely worth giving a shot.
Other great stories I assume you might appreciate that come to mind are HxH, Lone Wolf and Cub (a must), Dorohedoro (it's an exceptional piece of art that very few have read because of its dark theme. Highly enjoyable.), Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys, Monster and Billy Bat, Berserk and The Ravages of Time (only if you're interested in politics and philosophy, though.)
I would also highly recommend a delinquent manga called Worst, since it's one of the best series I have ever read. The characters are beautifully written, the messages it conveys to its readers deep and meaningful, and the art is absolutely pretty. Check it out if the premise doesn't turn you off.
And if sports interests you as a theme, try Eyeshield21, Slam Dunk and Hajime no Ippo. All three are marvellous reads in different ways.
I caught up with History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi recently. I want something similar to that (it's basically action with huge amounts of comedy). Any recs? Preferably something with an anime please, but well.. i'll take manga recs too.
Beelzebub ? Tough its anime is crap.
Blackcat has always been a favorite manga of mine. I also suggest RED and Bartender, and Addicted to Curry. Those three are nice simple manga.
Fractured my Leg a couple of days ago so I have alot of free time and I want to catch on awesome Animes, So I would really appreciate the best ones out there especially ones that adapt their Mangas well.
I have watched:One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, Darker than Black, Kenichi, Gantz, Berserk, Claymore, Elfen Lied, the rest were to crapy for me to remeber.
As you can see I have a wide taste in the genres except for slice of life ones that I just cant get into.
A quick question One Piece(the earlier stuff) and Hunter X hunter the original had old graphics but you can still get into them and enjoy it, is YU YU Hakusho the same?
Fist of the North Star, Gunnm, 7 Seeds, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Eden - It's an Endless World, Basara, to an extent Akira.
Akira? The crazy little boy with superpowers?
it's a good title and there's more to it than just that, but yeah the guy with the powers is in it.

Some of the best I've watched:
Mushishi
Baccano
Kino's Journey
Seirei no Moribito
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Gankutsou
Gintama
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Great-Good shows:
Hellsing Ultimate
Book of Bantorra
Last Exile
Legend of the Legendary Heroes
Durarara!
Eureka Seven
Eve no Jikan
Haibane Renmei
That's all I can think for now. Dunno if this will interest you since you dislike slice-of-life, but I recommend that you check out Natsume Yuujinchou.

Yes, yu yu hakusho is weird for me, not only do I prefer the anime to the manga, but the I also prefer the English dub. So if you can, try and watch the English dub.
^HAD a nice beginning, then it became a site for fanarts, shitty ugly fanarts, and some shitty matchups and transformations that rivals SSJ3 Broly.
Anyway here's Spider-Man !
Oh I know it's a fan fiction but the main art is good enough (the other fanarts are pretty weak) and I liked how some universes diverged from the main one. The story is simple enough where you could see it actually being a DB movie.
Vegetto staying Vegetto after Buu, a world where Goku kills everybody on Earth and teams up with Vegeta, Buu wins, Cell wins, Androids win, Broly's world, Trunks world (which I always felt Toriyama or someone else could've made a legit manga as a spinoff for the alternate timeline), a world where Krillin, Tien, and Yamacha are the strongest
I have just finished reading Eyeshield 21.
Not a fantastic manga, but Yoichi Hiruma got to be one of my favorite characters, of all time.
A good manga I recently read, Oumagadoki-doubutsuen. It's about a zoo were the animals can transform into humans, lead by a reeeally selfish Rabbitman. Great but incomplete.

Is Blade of the Immortals any good? Is it worth buying the Dark Horse releases (good translations, no fear of cancellation?)? I've also heard the Dark Horse releases read from left to right, is that a problem?
It's very good to me. If you're in to a good story that becomes a journey and cool fights throughout. Art is good and consistent.
I just started reading "Again!". Volume 1 just came out this month.
And….. wow, this is fun!
The protagonist is a social reject. A degenerate. It's graduation day from highschool.
He has long blond hair (dyed), scary face, and made no friends the entire time at school.
He's anti-social, and has no fond memories of school life.
Only thing he regrets about the school he's about to graduate from is this one girl he saw at the first day of school, 3 years ago.
A girl who was the only member of a traditional school cheer club, and sang the school anthem on stage. The heroine is a very social girl. She's made many friends in high school, and scored a handsome boyfriend.
She has many fond memories of the school. She finds the protagonist a loser, and a freak. He's creepy, and wish he'd never come near her.The two get in an accident right after the graduation ceremony by falling down the stairs near where the traditional cheer club used to be.
They are both severly injured, and bleeding to death. They wake up 3 years ago.
Everything is time slipped to 3 years ago. Their bodies are younger, everyone is how they were 3 years ago.
It's the first day of school.
But their memories are that of 18 year old graduate. Now they have a chance to re-live their lives. (School work is going to be cakewalk obviously)
The protagonist decides this time he's going to make full of his school life, and find out about that girl he remembers.
To his surprise, his relation with classmates are going far better than he ever imagined. His new motivation in life starts to change him for the positive... despite his unawareness of it.
The heroine tries to re-live her life but.... somehow things aren't going the same way. Her knowlege of future is hindering her from active social life...Our two heroes have chance to change their lives.... will they be successful?
The premise is nothing new, yet another take of ground hog's day.. but the characters are absolutely charming.
I fell in love with the characters in mere 1-2 chapters.
The author is known to do short serialization, but I hope this goes on for a bit longer than his last. I'm gonna enjoy this ride.
I searched but I can't seem to find much information about it. Can someone please enlighten me about the author, the japanese title, maybe link to a RAW….just something. Because that sounds good. I'd even be willing to bring out the Aohige signal.
Again!! @ jCafe** Sadly, not a single chapter is translated.
Is Zatch Bell worth reading ? I'm in chapter 29 right now and all i see is continuous fights, angry people that burst tears and a girl that everyone abducts or bullies.
Art wise i know it'll get better since that's what made me want to read it first. But is the story really worth it ?

I'm at chapter 140 something, I think. . .I stopped reading it. Not because it's necessarily bad (it's quite generic), but because I wanted to catch up with Billy Bat. Now that I'm done with it I'll probably go back to Zatch, although I'm in no rush; so far what I read of Zatch Bell is quite decent, but nothing stellar. The fights can get a bit repetitive, and the "friendship power up" is even more over-used than Fairy Tail, believe it or not. It's a mix of "friend hurt = power up" and "you're a mean human being/demon = rage power up".
BUUUUUT! That being said. . .the comedy is H Y S T E R I C A L. Really. It's incredible the thing that got me glued to the manga weren't the fights, or characters (except Folgore), or the powers (although some attacks do look impressive). . .but the comedy. It's not a gag manga, that's a given, and the comedy isn't there as much as I'd want, but when it happens, it's just so bizarre, so absurd, so over the top, I can't help but laugh hysterically.
And also, I think someone here said the "holy shit" arc is later in the game, so. . .someday I'll probably pick it up again. I think.
Well atleast they made a little explanation about how the book works with emotions, then no biggie. And i can't say the comedy isn't random, just the way i like it.
It's just 300 chapters long so i guess i'll just continue. Thanks !

I am about 23 volumes in and I am not sure if it has been worth it honestly. Maybe I expected too much or something because I quite liked it in the beginning but it has just felt like flat volume after flat volumes recently. Like Kouch said, the comedy is literally the only thing that I think exceeds mediocrity (that and maybe the art here and there.)
Again!! @ jCafe** Sadly, not a single chapter is translated.
Thank you very much.
Would you guys recommend Kenshin? I've heard good things about it and the opening chapter seems alright, but is it some thing I should commit myself to? (I'll probably read it anyway I just want to know what to expect).
Sora no Otoshimono is really a underestimated manga. Sure, it has a looot of fanservice and ecchi stuff. But the crazy stories the author is making, it gives me a big grin almost every chapter :D
Recently I've been wanting to check out Akira, both the anime and manga. Should I watch the movie first then read the manga? Or vice versa? I usually go anime then manga, this way I get to enjoy both and not feel disappointed with the anime.
