I would really like to believe that Ging just on the spot decided to set himself in the worst light possible, and this way provoke Leorio to act and by doing so focus some support from the community on him. As long as it's opposing Pariston's goals, it works. And nothing to do with bad parenting, guilt trips and deserved punishment. At least, not directly.

I'd bet on it. He apparently has some ability at foresight; perhaps it's his Nen ability. Think about it. He predicted exactly how Pariston and the other Zodiac would react during their discussion on electing a new chairman, and he was very adamant to Pariston that Gon would live. My guess is that he has something similar to Neon's Nen ability, without the need to write down his predictions. Perhaps he knew that Leorio (or any of Gon's friends, really) would come to see the election debates and directly confront him, and he openly provoked that to increase voter turnout and get votes away from Pariston.

Personally, I'd rather see Cheadle win the election than Leorio. Leorio winning means he's stuck at a desk, can't become a doctor, and also can't be part of the main cast again. Despite being a new character, Cheadle is likeable enough to be the new Chairman, and would get things done a lot better than Leorio could, and would definitely be better than that slimeball Pariston.

But maybe you're right, maybe that's why Kurapika hasn't gone to see Gon yet. I'm sure we'll see in the upcoming chapters. If Leorio has returned, so will Kurapika, soon.

Ah, I see. And no I didn't forget. I would just doubt Kalluto would have mentioned her to them even in that scenario, Kalluto has no real loyalty to Ryodan. Seems to be a fairly high offense in their family to tell anyone outside their family about Alluka.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as suggest a precognition nen ability. Simply because it's much more impressive for me to see a result of quick deduction and 20+ years of experience rather than a convinient and shrewd power.

Hmmm. Maybe that explains Kurapika's absence. Maybe he felt his nen being erased from Lucifer and wanted to go deal with it.

I blame 50% of that on the awkward english translation. You can't deny the way things are phrased isn't confusing. For example this week Leorio says:

That is not proper english and that is not how you would word that sentence

Much more grammatically correct sentence. The weird structure of sentences and words is what made the presidential rules hard to decipher as well. These things always read much better when officially translated and adjusted for the right audience and language

I agree that a lot of the confusion stems from weird sentence structure.
Also if something is so complex that you're readers can't really understand it, than you're a bad storyteller.
You're job as a good storywriter is to enable readers to understand even you're most mindboggling thoughts/creations.
And since I believe that Togashi is anything but a bad writer I'll rather blame it on the translations(not necesseraly the accuracy of them but one can not deny that sometimes things get lost or meanings slightly altered through translation).

THIS CHAPTER WAS AWESOME. I'm so glad I didn't read spoilers. I think that was the right decision. The minute You-Know-Who showed up I cheered like mad. I also realized why the Narublegh thread had it's new title. At first I thought he'd punch Pariston (who tbh would be more deserving) but considering what was going on Ging made more sense. Point is: It was pretty goddamn freaking awesome.

I feel Ging is as inscrutable as Gon is. If you asked Gon for a complicated answer for why he didn't want his father to come to him, he'd probably just say "it wouldn't be fun." In a similar situation I'm feeling Ging would say the same thing. Ging has already established himself as far more interested in being a Hunter than being a father, and the big declarations he makes regarding Gon are honestly what he straightforwardly believes. He's irresponsible and a little childish, but he has a great intuition and conviction regarding his son, who has become a Hunter like him, who Kaito has told him about, who obtained and completed Greed Island, and so on. I honestly don't think he's encumbered by doubt when it comes to his parenting - he's made quite clear what kind of a parent he is, and I don't think the reasons he gives are just "excuses for show."

He'd probably feel differently about helping Gon out if it wasn't already very clear what a huge circle of supportive friends and pseudo-guardians his son had amassed.
He's honestly grateful to them, because they can support Gon for him.

Make no mistake, Ging IS a self-centered douchebag - but I don't think those big "meaningful" excuses are anything short of his absolute belief in Gon.

I'm not denying that free internet translations are of varying quality. They can be awful, worse than professional translations - and good as well, sometimes even better than professional ones. Well, MangaStream never was a group reknowned for their translations anyways. Hell, some of their mistakes has risen to meme level.

But what's wrong with this sentence? I find your variant incorrect. Why would you separate two parts of the sentence with a question mark like that? Could you explain your choice?

I didn't mean he had to stay 24 h a day, but at least having a short personal visit given the Hunters' Asociation top brass not being able to find a realistic way to cure someone in that condition, would be a nice thing. At least make him express grief at not being able to go due to the election, at least as a thought.

Because we know there's a way to cure Gon, but Ging doesn't know about the laws of reality bending eldritch abomination stuck in the Zoldyck cellar.

Don't see how the Gon/Gin relationship can be questioned now. Of course in the real world he's a horrible father that probably owes thousands in unpaid child support but in the HxH world the few special children aren't emotionally and psychologically damaged by their father's abandoning them.

Then again I could totally see somebody cooking up a "The Truth about Hunter x Hunter" manga to analyze gon and the other characters like they did with Pokemon and the Rugrats.

Gin wants Gon to be an excellent hunter, there is nothing more he can do than be an excellent prey/target. At least that's what I think about their relationship, a father shaping his son to be the very best..like no one ever was.

Yeah that was quite a gamble. lol. Gon could have decided he just wanted to be a fisherman, a carpenter, a forest ranger or work in the bar with his aunt. It's a almost arrogant to just assume a baby that's fairly a blank slate he dropped off will want to become a hunter just because that was your profession even though he may never have found out about it. His aunt sure wasn't going to make it known. It was pretty random chance that he met Kaito in the situation where Gon had the chance to be in awe and see a glimpse of the Hunter life. Gon pretty much had every right to say, "Naw."

One scene that will forever drive me nuts is Gon choosing to not listen to his mother's voice. It's nice that's he's dedicated to his aunt and thinks of her as his mother, but argh. Now that I'm thinking about it she's not even in flash backs with Ging. It seems odd I kinda wanted to know how they even got together since based on the flashbacks his aunt was the one that seemed to be following him and hiding to get his attention. Was her sister a hunter too? Is she actually dead? These are things I don't remember them saying. I know there's a grave, but I forget if they ever said how she died. Ging came back suddenly with a kid and they were surprised, so I'm guessing his mother wasn't ever at home. But I'm also confusing myself now cause in the manga Ging is Mito's cousin, in the anime she's his sister in law iirc.

That could have been a possibility he considered…nevertheless...he already set out the conditions, if you want to meet ur daddy...you'll have to hunt me down first. Looking at it, whether GON decides to be a "HUNTER" or not...he will still be hunting for Ging if he wants to meet him.

Before this thread comes to a close I just have to ask, is it going to be worth it to watch the original anime or should I just continue with the remake because I am finding it to be very interesting and the one week wait is killing me, so any advice

Yeah, read the manga. But the original anime is also good, much darker than this one, but ends just before the longest arc.

I am a little disappointed that the new Hunter X Hunter anime is trying to appeal to a younger demographic.

If an anime cannot depict death how can it portray the good guys intentionally provoking a surrendering species with no will to fight to extinction or even describe a double majority election system for that matter.

You'll likely see less censorship in the DVDs.

That said, I was surprised at the amount of death that was shown in the HxH anime (first time initiate here!). I know Togashi is old school and doesn't care to keep his characters "immaculate" like the new age boys Oda, Kishimoto and Kubo, but I would have put bets on more heavy censorship than what we're seeing in the show. Death is there, graphic gore is not. Though Hisoka's card kills are pretty graphic and obviously murder to mine eyes.
