to bad. well as long as there's a spread it'll be fine  we can still color it ourselves
Chapter 398 "Proclamation of War" Discussion
-
-
I just want to get to the next chapter and get on with the fights… I also want a decent fucking chair since the computer department replaced all the good comp lab chairs with these pieces of shit
-
everyone does know that usopps mask will come off right, theres no other way that luffy will know.
and was anyone else disappointed with the damage that it done to the flat. it was meant to destory it, not just invert the colour scheme.
-
and was anyone else disappointed with the damage that it done to the flat. it was meant to destory it, not just invert the colour scheme.
Do what? The star cluster was burned right off and the rest of the flag was pretty much turned to ash. It was falling apart in the next few panels that we saw it in. Kabuto did a lot more to it than just invert the color scheme.
As far as the next chapter goes, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Oda doesn't temporarily step away from the main action and go back to the Galley-La shipwrights for a moment. He might even shift the scene away from Enies Lobby altogether.
If nothing else, I'm not expecting the Luffy-Lucci match to really get in gear until 400.
-
He might even shift the scene away from Enies Lobby altogether.
That
s what i was thinking… i have a feeling we
ll see Iceburg next chapterAnyway, as far as Galley-La/FF goes i think the situation will be setled quickly with the giants guarding the entrance do the first tower
-
I'm tipping that the Baskerville/Family fight will be resolved within this chapter. Also I think there's still some jurors to clean up, which Galley-la should handle.
-
I think a mix of both the beginning of the fight and the other stuff will happen. The very last page of this chapter with Zoro´s and Lucci´s expression actually screems "We finally got to the fights".
The whole chapter 400 thing doesn´t have to mean much. The true rematch between Luffy and Crocodile maybe started at chapter 200 but the first punches of it already took place in chapter 199.
-
@Battle:
Also I think there's still some jurors to clean up, which Galley-la should handle.
Out of curiosity and boredom, I did a brief "Eleven Juror" head/defeat count.
Feel free to make corrections.
-
My sole ''correction'' would lie in you saying Kiwi, Mos and the Franky Family must have done off with some Jurors in order to lower the bridge, while I say it's much more likely to assume they managed to do so when Lulu and Tilestone entered the fray. I mean, they were pretty much hopeless by themselves, so I think all that just happened offscreen.
I say there's a reasonable chance we'll be seeing some Pauly/Zambai and co fighting Baskerville, though.
Either way, probably not enough to fill an entire chapter, and not even Oda would torture us that much.
-
Ah, I forgot Lulu/Tilestone went to back up Kiwi/Mos & the Family in the towers. Yeh, I'd say they would've made all the difference against the remaining Jurors.
-
What everyone seems to miss is that Sanji also has a huge grin on his face. He's the first smile shown, but it's easy to see how he's overshadowed by the other's smiles. Sanji was kind of humiliated against CP9 in the sense that he didn't save Robin. All three of the heavy straw hat hitters didn't do a good job on their first tries. So it makes sense they're all happy they get to fight.
It's very exciting, after reading endless internet speculation on who's going to fight who, to know that in the next couple of weeks, we'll definitely have an answer.
-
@Mog:

Want to bet?
I just get the feeling that 399 is going to be a filler chapter and that we may well have a better chance of seeing the Gorosei or maybe even Spandine this week than more than the very beginning of the fight between CP9 and the Straw Hats.
It's bound to happen sometime and it's really better if Oda does it now rather than interrupting the actual fight.

i'm really hoping Sanji destroys someone, he really needs a bounty.
-
i'm really hoping Sanji destroys someone, he really needs a bounty.
And a piratey nickname…or does he have one already? I heard somebody mention "5 Star Sanji," that'd be a perfect nickname.
Nami needs a new one ("the pirate rober" just doesn't really fit anymore) so I nominate her for "Thundercloud Nami" in defference to her clima-tact.
Chopper could brobably just be "Blue Nose Chopper,"
And Usopp should, of course, become known as Sogeking Usopp
-
I think Sanji was only smiling because of what Robin said.
-
i'm really hoping Sanji destroys someone, he really needs a bounty.
Considering that he singlefootedly kicked the asses of at least two Cipher Pols cells on the Puffing Tom, I'm pretty sure that he'll get one regardless of what he does against CP9. At a minimum, he's beat up between fifty and one hundred representatives of the World Government today.
And a piratey nickname…
Zoro doesn't have one though, so I don't know if Sanji needs one.
If he gets one, I hope it's something really, really stupid like Hypnobrow just for the inevitable exchange between Sanji and Zoro.
-
"Hypnobrow Sanji…."
I LIIIIIIKE it!
-
I still like Love Cook Sanji, although 5 Star Sanji sounds pretty good.
Nami is kinda hard, the only one I can think of is Treasure Hunting Nami.
Chopper the Reindeer, Blue Nose Chopper, etc.
Sogeking Ussop or just Sogeking will be fine.
If Franky joins the crew, his might be Franky the Cyborg, or Fire-Breathing Franky (taking the name from episode 238)
EDIT: Almost forgot about Speedo Franky
-
If Franky joins the crew, his might be Franky the Cyborg, or Fire-Breathing Franky
Seeing as how Franky is already an alias, there's no real need to create a descriptive nickname for him.
-
Zoro's alias is "Pirate Hunter" Zoro. Yes, even though he's not a bounty hunter anymore he's still known as this; Zambai calls him that when he attempts to capture him at the start of W7.
-
I was just thinking about that. Pretty awesome. So wait, all pirates have goofy nicknames? At least Franky would be saved…
-
If Franky did get a nickname, it could be, in the words of Luffy, "Panty Man" Franky!
Come to think of it, nevermind.
-
Let's see…..
Pirate Hunter Zoro
Pirate King Luffy
Sogeking Usopp
Franky Cutty Flam
Demon of Ohara Nico Robin
Thief Nami
Blue-Nosed Raindeer Chopper
Mr. Prince Sanji -
@Cap'n:

I forgot about that, but you have to admit that simply calling somebody by their former occupation isn't much of a nickname though.
-
Sanji's been smiling the whole time, even in the first shot of them standing on the roof together.
I wish they could just call him "Mr. Prince." Too bad that died out in Alabasta.
-
Joekido, I believe Luffy is "Straw Hat."
I forgot about that, but you have to admit that simply calling somebody by their former occupation isn't much of a nickname though.
It's widely accepted in that world, and honestly a pretty cool nickname when you think about it.
-
a surprising thought just occured to me.
what if they don't get bounties? what if, the crime of burning the flag and going against the world government is so huge, that the gorusei decided that giving these 'rebels' large bounties is, perhaps, unaffordable? by the look of the marine's faces when they saw the flag they've always looked up in pride, aflamed, they were horrified. it was obvious that never happened before.
or has it?
i believe the phrase was:
Robin: …you can't-
Soldiers: Ah...
...aaah!!
Look... look what they DID...!!
Do they know what attacking a flag MEANS...?!!
THEY'VE DONE IT NOW!!!!even the pirate with the current largest bounty in the world got its bounty from a series of events, and not by fighting against the entire world government in one blow. the gorusei might attack them through other things, perhaps through the shichibukai or some other secret operation.
i might just be overanalyzing. and i want another OMFG twist in the series.
-
I was thinking of how this fight is actually going to break out or start? Spandam insists that CP9 fight only from the 'Judicial Tower' in order to of course protect his worthless carcass.
So that'd create a weird sort of intermission, where the Strawhat's would have to clamber down through the Courthouse & get out onto the draw bridge, with the exception of maybe Luffy who could stretch across or at least jump down to the bridge without taking any major damage.
But I'd think everyone else would have to just climb down, unless any CP9 members were to disobey orders and just use 'geppou' to come across, and the fight would start on the Courthouse instead.
-
It might not be realistic but I doubt oda will have them slowly climb down. They'll just jump, or better yet, Luffy will launch them against their will like he's done in the past, Zoro and Sanji will then swear "I'm gonna kill you!" to Luffy and they'll be on their merry way to the fight.
I hope.
-
Yeh, I think the group slingshot scenario will be the most probable, Luffy was already gearing up to do that by himself before. Though, I'm sort of hoping that all the parties involved regroup in the lower Courthouse and charge across the draw bridge together.
But considering Luffy's impatient nature, he'll probably already be over at the tower trading blows with Lucci before that could ever happen.
-
Well the main reason I don't think they'll slowly climb down the tower is actually because it would ruin the moment. Luffy's like "Lower the bridge!" If he meant, "Lower the bridge so we can slowly climb down to it" it'd be, well, lame.
-
I think Luffy should use Gomu Gomu no Rifle Shot and break Robin's seastone cuffs, then she makes an arm bridge to the judicial tower.
Bonus points if Sanji runs up it and gives Spandam a good kick in the face.
Btw, Sanji is now "The fighting cook formerly known as Mr. Prince".
They actually have multiple names:
Luffy: Mugiwara (Straw Hat), Rubber-man, Monkey-boy, Hammer
Zoro: Three-sword Zoro, Two-sword Zoro (When he was a child), Pirate Hunter Zoro, Best Swordsman in East Blue, Marimo Head, Mr. Bushido.Sanji: Mr. Prince, Needlebrow, Sous-Chef
Nami: Pirate Thief Nami, Navigator-san, Witch-woman Nami
Usopp: Captain Usopp, Sogeking, Marksman-san
Chopper: Tony-kun, Choppah, Doctor-san.
Robin: Demon of Ohara, Ms. Allsunday, Robin-chwaaan, Demon girl
Franky: Boss, Cyborg
And Meethz, though it's not said, it's strongly implied that the highest bounty in the One PIece World is Dragon's. The highest we've been shown is Doflamingo's. But everything everyone's said points to Dragon having the highest bounty, with Shanks and Whitebeard right behind him.
-
How does "Everything" point to Dragon having a higher bounty than Whitebeard?
-
It's simple:
Smoker: "You're one of the World's Most Wanted!"
Man in flashback: "This man, gentlemen, will be a great threat to the government in a few years! We must take all precautions to ensure this man is stopped!"
Also, the fact is, Whitebeard is a DYING old man. Shanks has ONE arm. With Whitebeard's health failing, and shanks unable to be the swordsman he once was, it's rather easy to discern that Dragon is the biggest threat to the government.
Besides, Whitebeard is, according to Buggy, "The closest man to One Piece", which means he's so far down the Grand Line that I dbout many civilizations are near him, nor can be influenced by him. Shanks is… at an unknown place at the moment, but is on his way to meet Whitebeard, which would mean he's also far down the Grand Line. Dragon - if everyone's theory about him eating the Kaze Kaze no Mi are true - is the most mobile person in Odachii. He can be anywhere he wants in an instant. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but his words were: "A Pirate? Good!"
If he was a pirate himself, he would have said "ANOTHER Pirate? Good!" or "A pirate as well? Good!". This indicates that he's a radical or revolutionary of some sort, and would be more of a threat.
-
I think that with the situation of the bridge Spandam will call to blow the bridge to bits if they go through it; or better yet the franky family and galley-la will join in and than they fall down in the waterfall. Not only does it raise suspense it could make Franky a) Superpissed and join the crew or b) Superpissed and join in the fight than come in as a part of the crew with rage fueling him…thats to DBZ when you think about it.
Also it could add more to what Pauly asked Zoro "When you meet up with up with them, tell them you're fired."
Than of coarse the best way possable to join the fight, Luffy's supersling and I think if they can get high enough they can do a cheeky starting shot, as CP9 can only really walk accross air, the rest of their attacks are close range I think.
-
@Fire Fist:
It's simple:
Smoker: "You're one of the World's Most Wanted!"
He never said that. All he says is, and I quote Stephen, is…
Smoker: The government wants your head.
@Fire Fist:
Man in flashback: "This man, gentlemen, will be a great threat to the government in a few years! We must take all precautions to ensure this man is stopped!"
Point? Like Whitebeard isn't a threat? Or Shanks?
There's nothing given to compare the threat posed by Whitebeard and/or Shanks to Dragon.
@Fire Fist:
Also, the fact is, Whitebeard is a DYING old man. Shanks has ONE arm. With Whitebeard's health failing, and shanks unable to be the swordsman he once was, it's rather easy to discern that Dragon is the biggest threat to the government.
Okay. First off, you're making too many assumptions. One is that Whitebeard and Shanks are any less of a threat. Oda says himself that Shanks isn't any less dangerous, and Whitebeard is STILL the most powerful pirate.
Second, even if they WERE worse off, which is very doubtful, why would the World Government lower an already placed bounty? Once they've earned their bounties (when they're at their prime,) they're not going to go DOWN afterwards. They'll remain the same. That's what common logic dictates.
@Fire Fist:
Good!"
Okay, and why would this matter at all?
If he's not there immediately, he's not a threat and the bounty goes away? Is that your logic? It doesn't really make sense.
It doesn't matter WHERE Whitebeard is. He's still the same pirate he was. The Marines aren't going to say, "Oh, look, he's so far away! Let's lower his bounty!" That would just be dumb, wouldn't it? It'd make more sense to keep the bounty on his head… which would be the highest, right?
@Fire Fist:
If he was a pirate himself, he would have said "ANOTHER Pirate? Good!" or "A pirate as well? Good!". This indicates that he's a radical or revolutionary of some sort, and would be more of a threat.
That'd make sense, except that pirates are also in opposition to the government. In fact, pirates endanger innocent civilians, attack Marine ships, go after their money….
Not to say that revolutionaries AREN'T a threat. They're equal, but different, types of threats.
-
@joekido:
Let's see…..
Pirate King LuffyAs Buccaneer already pointed out it´s Straw Hat Luffy.
Sogeking Usopp
Nobody called Usopp ever Sogeking. They know that Sogeking is Usopp but they don´t refer to him as Usopp the Sogeking (which is a must if it has to be a nickname).
I think Captain Usopp is still the best nickname. Heck I call him that myself and I know he´s no captain.
Franky Cutty Flam
Either that or Bakanky
Demon of Ohara Nico Robin
Actually Robin was always refered to as Devil Woman.
Thief Nami
Well yes she is a thief but I never hear anyone using that as a nickname for her. However I´m not sure if she wasn´t labeling herself as "Pirate Thief" at some point. If yes then this could work. But if she just said "I only steal from pirates" then she doesn´t have a nickname yet.
Blue-Nosed Raindeer Chopper
That´s what he is but he barely gets recognized like that. Actually he mostly gets refered to as Racoon or whatever Tanuki means. True he doesn´t like that reference but then again, Zoro never called himself Pirate Hunter. Nicknames often come up like that.
Mr. Prince Sanji
Mr. Prince isn´t a nickname. It was an alter ego he created. You also don´t would say Luffy´s nickname is Afro-Luffy. Using the same argument as I just did with Chopper I think the best nickname for Sanji would be Love Cook. It got used often enough by Zoro to work and it seems to appeal to people since it isn´t a rarity to read in this forum.
-
The one nickname I would like to see Sanji's have is the one Zeff had, which is if I'm not mistaken is Red Shoe. Red Shoe Sanji sounds just right. It'll be even cool if his shoes are soaked with blood after the CP9 fight for him to merits it name.
As for getting down. We have seen that they don't die after falling from high places, remember that incident at the Clock Tower in Alabasta. But Sogeking will probably stays behind playing vanguard, sniping at CP9ers so that the Straw Hats can get safely down before pulling out a parachute for his own descent.
-
Red Leg Zeff… bada** nickname if you ask me.
I don't like much this nicknames... StrawHat Luffy ok, Sanji could inherit the Red Leg thing, Sogeking Usopp doesn`t make sense but neither does Captain Usopp (wich is the best imo), Thief Nami is too simple and Chopper is Choppah d4 3v1l r331nd33r
-
Are we debating what their nicknames will be here or what will be put on their bounty papers?
If the second, I think TonyTony Chopper will be just fine. With Sanji either Love Cook Sanji or Red Leg Sanji. OR we will maybe be learning his full name?!;) Would be really interesting I say. :)
The others, I have no good idea, so, will not post them. ^^ -
I don't think it could be Red Leg Sanji. There is one Red Leg and that is Zeff. Love Cook should be it.
Zorro is Pirate Hunter or Marimo
Luffy i Mugiwara
Usopp will be Sogeking
Franky - The Dismantler, hehe, that should do it.
The rest i don't know. Perhaps Demon Woman for Robin, but i don't think so.As for bounties - Whitebeard is the strongest pirate there is and he is obviously aiming for One Piece and the title of Pirate King. It's only logical that his bounty would be the highest. Shanks was mentioned as an equal to Whitebeard in everithing but ambition, so he should be out there as well. What would follow is either some unknown to us pirate/s, Dragon or some of the Shichibukai, there is no way to be certain. As for Dragon - he is dangerous and wanted, but i kinda doubt he poses as much threat for the Government as the pirates do in the age of piracy.
-
Okey, Let me try again:
"Straw-Hat" Luffy
"Love Cook" Sanji
"Devil Woman" Robin
"Blue-Nosed Raindeer" Chopper
"Pirate Hunter" Zoro
"Pirate Thief" Nami
"Cutty Flam" Franky
"Captain Usopp" UsoppThere, that should do it.
-
Is it really spelled that way? Isn't it like more… reindeer? :P Not sure, but think so. :)
Oww, can't wait to see the legend of the strawhat clan begin to take it's place. :D
-
Yep it is reindeer. And the blue nose is a bit strange since nobody refers to him like that. It´s like saying Buggy is the Red Nose Pirate. He´s not, he´s the Clown Pirate though he does have a red nose.
Whether or not the clow thing was his own idea or not is a completely different discussion. It still think that Racoon or Tanuki Chopper is a good choice since everybody who doesn´t know him refers to him that way. True, he´s no racoon but then again, Nico Robin is no Devil Woman and yet she´s called like that.
And ysn just reminded me of it. Franky has already been given a nickname. It´s Franky the Dismantler or Dismantler Franky, however you read it.
-
no, no, not just the Dismantler…
It has to be The Dismantler, you know. Like, The Terminator etc.
;) -
@joekido:
Okey, Let me try again:
"Straw-Hat" Luffy
"Love Cook" Sanji
"Devil Woman" Robin
"Blue-Nosed Raindeer" Chopper
"Pirate Hunter" Zoro
"Pirate Thief" Nami
"Cutty Flam" Franky
"Captain Usopp" UsoppThere, that should do it.
I still want it to be "Five Star" Sanji…I swear I remember to Sanji reffering to himself like that once.
Nami needs a better one, and Franky's nickname cannot be just his name. I dunno...."iron Fist" Franky, maybe.
-
Dismantler Franky
DD-Cup Nami -
Dismantler Franky
DD-Cup NamiRobin's bigger than Nami is.
EDIT: Sanji DID call himself "five star," right here-http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume33.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=6267
-
here is some wild speculation do any of you guys think that dragon can perhaps be robin's dad? dragon has a grudge against the world goverment so he must know some of the lost history. im not saying he is from ohara but perhaps went to ohara to learn more of the lost history and then met robin's mom and then had robin. after that perhaps he left on a voyage to learn more of the lost history. if dragon is indeed a D like luffy then would make robin and luffy related. since ohara was destroyed than that also gives dragon extra incentive's to hate the world goverment and want to start a revolution against it.
-
He's saying he's a five star chef, not that that's his nickname. And it'd only work if they'd used it, anyway.
Franky is a nickname itself, and "Iron Fist" is taken already.
