His name was Merry….. Hence the name of the ship, Going Merry....
The New Ship
-
-
the new ship, it would have dials attached onto it …
-
i thinking franky's gonna build the new ship and it's gonna be similar to the puff'n tom, but on a much more higher level. It's been a long while since puff'n tom was built and threw out that time franky turned himself into a total cyborg. He's gotta have huge potential for amazing things. Maybe every body will have their own lil sections they can do their stuff in. ^^. Training room for zoro, library for robin, bigger kitchen for sanji, mechanic room for usopp and the new ship repair guy…etc. Can't wait to see what oda gives us.
-
Thats what they would probably do for any new ship.
I wouldn't be surprised if Luffy asked that whatever he gets has some weird tunnel to the kitchen or he has a room full of meat.
The new ship will have many new things but with such a small crew, size might not matter they might just want more cannons like a bigger version of a Battle Franky but with weapons placed on alll sides of the ship for any possible sea combat.
-
The next ship will still be a tall ship in my opinions but will incorporate dials technologies.
I am of two minds on what I would like their next ships will be, If they get a big ships like Don Kreigs Ship-Of-Line Type with more than a hundred cannons(Which is usually the biggest most armed ship in a whole fleet) then I like each strawhats to get their own rooms, then we can see their personality reflected on how they decorate their cabins. But of course Luffy should get the Captains Stateroom, but probably will not sleep in it.
They also need a library to hold Robin, Nami and Chopper's collection of books, a cartographer room for Nami, sickbay, bigger kitchen, a mess hall, workroom for Usopp and Franky if he joins. A wheelhouse and a flybridge helm. And also lots of crews to run such ship. Still, I don't think their next ship will be this one, because if they maintains their current members plus 1 then they need a smaller managable ships but slightly bigger than Merry.
Merry is a Caravel, so they probably upgrade it to a Sloop, a Clipper or a Schooner but not anything bigger like a Galleon, a Merchantman or a Brigantine. There are other types of tall ships( Ships with tall sails) but these fit their sizes in my opinions because all of them are fast ships and seemed to be prefered by real pirates. When they get their ships, I'll like to see them in a sea battle. They never truly had them yet in One Piece.
-
Yeahh.. Sea Battles that's what i've been waiting for in One Piece.. but it nvr happened… Is it because Grand Line is too vast and dangerous that they never met a single Pirate Ship in the sea.... There was twice though it happened... but it happened near islands not in the 'middle' of the sea....
1st wif Wapol and 2nd with Monbran Cricket's 'Monkeys'Well.. Their ship would be bigger but NOT much bigger than GM if they had their current crew member + franky... What i would want them to have is the series of arsenal for ussop to use... maybe a work room for Franky and Ussop to build weapons and all...
-
I think they'll probably stick with a caravel-type ship. Caravels are good for long-distance exploration and they can sail against the wind and against river currents and all sorts of neat things, and they're easy for a small crew to man. Anything other than a caravel seems like a step down, since it's perfectly suited for their style of pirating.
Sloops, clippers, and schooners may have worked well for historical pirates, but they needed the speed that those ships afforded. Since Luffy and Co. don't perform strike-and-runs on ports or attack other ships at sea, they don't really require a ship whose primary capability is a quick getaway. What they DO require is a ship that is precise, maneuverable, and suited for long travel, which is what caravels were designed for.
Sorry for the late entry, but I'm a sailor myself, and prone to sailing geekery. I had to put my two cents in.

as long as it looks nothing like the old one, i don't mind, but i'd hope they got a decent size ship this time, when they do finally get ten people, it'd have been mighty cramped on merry.
-
I think Laboon could be the new ship. Seriously, he's a plausible deus ex machina; Laboon is big enough to smash the Gate of Justice, he's a mammal and can swim underwater. What better way to avoid the Marines?
-
Wow… That's a rather wild guess to say Laboon would be able to break through the Gate of Justice. Plus isn't it supposed to wait for the strawhats at Reverse Mountain?
You bring a good point though: I have the feeling the next boat will have the ability to go underwater. If Franky build it, you can expect it to have tons of weird abilities, and it would greatly help them to get away from the Marine.
-
I would LOVE for their new ship to be Laboon! Every time I look at that whale I crack up! Then again, I'll love their new ship no matter what…I'm thinking it will be big, and resemble the Merry in some way. I deffinetly think they will use the head of the Going Merry, just to pay their respects. And Usopp will definetly come back, hopefully though, whenever he fights from now on, he will dawn his mask and become...SOGEKING!
I really think that Franky will join their crew though. I know that people have been saying that Franky doesn't really have a dream per say. But imagine this. After this arc is over, Franky builds the Straw Hats a new ship. His "Dream ship" if you will. Then Franky says "Because you helped me obtain my dream, I'm going to help you obtain yours!" Then Franky would join the Straw Hats. Oda has spent a lot of time developing Franky, giving him a number of attacks, a history, and a major role in this arc. What I think happened was, Oda was thinking about making Mr. 2 part of the crew, but he reconsidered cuz Mr. 2 was a little weird. (Franky and Mr. 2 are done by the same voice actor...) So he decided to put a character similar to Mr. 2 in. Franky is just like Mr. 2...except not gay...ya. But hey, thats just what I think.
Paulie would be the next candidate, but they haven't done the traditional flashback and junk.
-

I feel that Laboon is right in that little paper-thin area between "so deus ex machina it's funny" and "well planned-out" that seems contrived. He made a promise to Luffy not to leave that spot and for Crocus to care for him, remember? If he did come, either Crocus croaked (haha?) or Crocus joins too, which he already refused to do.
However, I do hope that the next ship is as out of the blue as Laboon would be.
-
I thought Franky's Dream was to Build a Dream ship, some Grand ship that will sail to the ends of the Sea.
wouldnt Building the ship of the new Pirate King acheve that?
and if it did, wouldnt he want to go with them to make sure it makes that trip? to make sure it doesnt break and make sure they dont replace it?
Regardless, Franky will build the Ship. It may be a Caravel but they will need the speed now that they declared War on the WG. a new kind of ship may be prefered, one that is stronger and faster. also, I think they should conserve a few things from Merry, like the Sheep head and the Red and White Sail in the back (the Mugiwara pirate flag on the front sail is a given) it needs weapons, and Im with the people who think each Mugiwara should have their own rooms now. I guess We just have to wait and see -
I think a bigger ship is a given. And yeah, I'm with… most everyone in that I think Franky is going to build it. He's going to follow in Tom's footsteps for sure. I just think a ship similar in basic functionality to the GM is what they still need.
But as for Franky being a member of the crew... neh. I just can't see it, I guess. But I'm having trouble seeing Paulie, either. Considering all the curveballs Oda's been throwing at us this arc, I wouldn't be surprised if it was both/neither of them.
-
The only thing I can predict about the new ship is that it will have a really nice bathroom. I remember Nami saying to Vivi something about a ship with a bathroom as nice as the one in Arabasta. Course, I don't think it will be as big.
Though assuming Franky is going to build it I think it will be one wacky ship. :)
-
This reminds me, what happened to Nami's orange grove? I forget if it was still on the Merry or not. It seems like something she'd want to keep. Also, the new ship might have a new "special seat" for Luffy.
-
When Usopp was lying on the ship after the duel, the trees were gone.
-
@Battle:
As long as it's not called Going Merry 2: The Next Level. I'm fine.
…...
......
I'm so sorry for that. :(
I have a feeling it'll be Going Merry 2 :D
-
Going Merry eXtreme?
-
The GM was build by Meri. The new ship will be Frankys dream ship
and he has his very own style. Another caravel wouln't be Frankys dream.
The new ship will be very unique and wacky with a lot of engines, cannons
and all kinds of tricks/traps just like the Franky House.
I wouln'd be surprised if Sodom and Gomorrah would pull/carry the ship like
a carriage. This way they could cross the Calm Belt, travel by land and even
cross the Reverse Mountain in the opposite direction. -
That'd be interesting to see.
I've posted here before, but after seeing more of Franky, I think I'm gonna rethink my former opinion. First off, I agree that it'll definetely be larger than Merry; not huge, but larger. I also think that the sheep head will most likely be salvaged. More cannons, and possibly some Franky special weapons will be put on (I wonder if Robin could fire multiple cannons at once with her arms?). I think the idea of separate rooms for each Mugiwara would be awesome (especially if each one was customized, Robin's with bookshelves, Sanji's with a bar or something, etc.); I also think that they're should be main common room tpye thing where the crew members can just….you know be crew members. :P
-
And it shall be crisened: The Battle Merry Deluxe!
They better salvage the sheep's head, because that's Luffy's favorite spot AND I just picture a giant sheep's head that opens up its mouth revealing a big-ass cannon.
-
They better salvage the sheep's head
I know you don't want to hear this, but keeping the sheep head is highly unlikely.
The figurehead is the symbol for the ships identity (Merry=sheep) and Frankys
ship will be a new ship and therefor has a new figurehead.Taking the sheep head is like stripping GM apart and only keeping the useful parts.
It's like carrying the head of a deceased friend around. That's just grotesque.
They should leave Merry with Iceburg and Pauley to rest in peace. They can repair
it and take care of it until the SHs return and carry it with honor back to East Blue. The sheep head was Luffys favorite spot only on board the GM, just as his favorite
spot on board the Rocket Man was in front of the chimney.
Luffy was talking a lot about some bronze statue. I think that will be Luffys new favorite seat. -
I want the new ship something like Wapol's, it can submerge into a submarine:happy: , or maybe fly like a plane , or maybe transform into a giant robot:biggrin: ; Ultra Battle Franky Gooo!!!!
-
It'll be the Going Franky, of course =P
-
battle nakama 37
-
I hope he doesn't use something like battle nakama, it just sounds weird and contradictory.
All his battle franky's had number correct, even the first one?
If that's so, he could make his ultimate battle franky just be Battle Franky without a number, unless his first one didn't have a number anyway.

"Battle Merry" is a nice name. And again, it has to have a seat for Luffy.
-
As a tribute to Tom-san I would say "Tom's Honor"
But I think the new ship will go by something like the one build for Gol D. Roger "Oro Jackson"
Since the Jackson in "Oro Jackson" is a name that I haven't heard before, so maybe there will be a name not related to anybody particular
But Ultimate Battle Franky would be a good name for the best Franky ship ever made
For those that wich Going Merry was rebuilt there's still a possibility that they make a smaller boat for exploring land using Going Merry's usable parts
-
For those that wich Going Merry was rebuilt there's still a possibility that they make a smaller boat for exploring land using Going Merry's usable parts
Whoa, what you just said really struck me as somewhat likely. Franky builds his dream ship, a great majestic battleship for Luffy. It's pretty big, so it has a little "hanger" bay that can deploy a smaller ship for docking, so the main ship can stay anchored at sea. And what better ship than a rebuilt Going Merry? It wouldn't be practical to rebuild the Merry, as we know, but after the Straw Hats are victorious and new heroes of Water 7, why shouldn't it be done as a gift to the crew? It would also patch up most of the reason Usopp left and ensure his rejoining the crew.

Again I say that's impossible. When a dear friend dies you mourn and send flowers.
You don't go steal his shoes at the funeral. (please read my post #171)
The idea of a dinghy sounds good, but they can have that without stripping
Going Merry apart. Usopp and the other SHs would never allow it. -

Battle Merry is actually a really good name. I like it.

i like the name battle merry, also. The old with the new

And again I disagree (sorry).
Franky stopped making Battleships and seeking ultimate power after what
happened to Tom, because he feared that this power could hurt someone he
loves. (except the BF36 which can't be used against his will)
Therefor calling the new ship "battle something" seems unlikely.
@stephen:Franky:
Tom-san…
I don't want to make anymore ships...!!!
I can't love a ship that hurt someone I love...!!!
But Tom-san,
you were what I wanted to be...!!!
I want you to come back and teach me!!!}
Someday,
I want to create the ship of my dreams...!!
The "ship of dreams" that can travel to the ends of the earth,
and cross the greatest of waves with pride and ease...!!Also there is no reason for Franky to call/resemble his dream ship
after the Going Merry, since he has no relationship with the GM, and
no other SH has any right to interfere with the shape of Frankys dream. If I had to choose a name I would place my bet on "Crawling Tom"
(or "World Runner" or "Jumping Don" or …) -
that thing that you quote from stephen could be a good point to franky to join SH
-

Furthermore, the term "battle" doesn´t have anything to do with it. Tom himself that there is no such plan for a pirate ship and that it is the flag that decides what kind of ship it will be. I serioulsy doubt that the new ship won´t have any firepower. So even if it won´t have the term "battle" in the name it would still be able to hurt people. The name doesn´t have anything to do with what the ship can do or can´t do.
Furthermore if he build this ship then it´s obvious that it will be both his dream ship and a ship that suits the Strawhats. Just as Tom gave Roger a ship he deserves. And with all that went on between him and Usopp when they were talking about Merry and the Klabautermann I´m sure he knows what the ship meant to the crew. So I see no reason why he shouldn´t let some influences from Going Merry inspire him when he builds that ship.
I too don´t think that it will be Berry Merry. I still stick with my guess I´ve made pages ago, but I certainly love the name and don´t see any reason why it shouldn´t be the name of the new ship.
-

except the BF36 which can't be used against his will
I said the BF36 is an exception, as it can't be used against his will.

Wrong. Tom meant that each ship can be used by everyone (pirate or marine)
and that the flag only tells us who uses the ship and not how it was build. But the creator/father of the ship decides whether it is a battleship meant for
battle and destruction with as much firepower as posible,
or whether it is an explorationship meant for long voyages and protection of
the crew by making it as invincible and durable as posible.
(Pluton will always be a most dangerous battleship no matter who uses it
just as an atomic bomb always be a weapon of mass destruction)The name of a ship represents the wish of its creator and after what happened
with his Battle Frankys and after what he said back then, I doubt he would wish
to call his dream ship "battle something".Furthermore if he build this ship then it´s obvious that it will be both his dream ship and a ship that suits the Strawhats.
Of course the new ship will "suit" the SHs, but not because Franky has made it
this way intentionally, but simply because it was made to travel around the world,
and that's exactly Luffys mission.
The new ship will be like a miracle and everyone will be happy about it.
There is no need to make it look like a sheep. So I see no reason why he shouldn´t let some influences from Going Merry inspire him when he builds that ship
OK when Going Merry truly inspires him, then so be it.
(Though I don't want to see Going Merry and the new ship compete with each other)
But not to make anyone comfortable. And i doubt he dreams about sheeps.:biggrin:I see no reason why Franky shouldn´t be selfish with his dream.
After all there is nothing more important than the dreams of the SHs.
(not comfort, law, live or even friendship)And I'll stick to my suggestion "Crawling Tom".
-
The ship will combine with the cyborg to form SUPER BATTLE FRANKY
-
I said the BF36 is an exception, as it can't be used against his will.
So what, he still uses it to hurt others. His entire body is a weapon. You don´t build that if you prefer to talk things out.

(Pluton will always be a most dangerous battleship no matter who uses it
just as an atomic bomb always be a weapon of mass destruction)Ok then tell me what is more dangerous. A ship with absolutely no weapons on board but having the term "battle" in its name or a ship with high firepower but without the term "battle" in its name.
The name of a ship represents the wish of its creator and after what happened with his Battle Frankys and after what he said back then, I doubt he would wish to call his dream ship "battle something".
I think you´re making too much of a big deal of the term "battle". Franky promised not to built something again that will harm people but does that mean that the he can´t use the term "battle" anymore. I think not.
True the name represents the name of the creator. But don´t the weapons that can built into the ship do the same? Even if Franky just includes one cannon then it can do already much more damage then the name. I don´t see how using "battle something" would go against his promise but the inclusion of a cannon doesn´t. Are both go against it or none. You can´t just have the one.
OK when Going Merry truly inspires him, then so be it.
(Though I don't want to see Going Merry and the new ship compete with each other)
But not to make anyone comfortable. And i doubt he dreams about sheeps.:biggrin:The point is that no matter how different the new boat is the fandom will compare both to each other constantly. You can´t avoid that by not including a sheeps head or the name "Merry" in it.
Outside of the fandom (meaning within the story itself) I see no reason why the old and new ships should be competing with each other.I see no reason why Franky shouldn´t be selfish with his dream.
After all there is nothing more important than the dreams of the SHs.
(not comfort, law, live or even friendship)Nobody ever said he shouldn´t be selfish. But I see no reason why he shouldn´t be inspired on something Strawhat fitting.
And I'll stick to my suggestion "Crawling Tom".
And I´ll stick with my first guess, though I still like Battle Merry.
-
So what, he still uses it to hurt others. His entire body is a weapon. You don´t build that if you prefer to talk things out.
The point is that the Battle Franky 36 is Franky himself, so noone can ever take it from him and use it in a way he doesn't intend it to be used. He has never been against violence; Someone taking his creation and using it against his will to hurt others is what traumatized him. Making BF36 a part of himself makes perfect sense to his character and what happened to him with Spandam.
-
The point is that the Battle Franky 36 is Franky himself, so noone can ever take it from him and use it in a way he doesn't intend it to be used. He never had a problem hurting others, it was that it was used by someone else to hurt others. Making BF36 a part of himself makes perfect sense to his character and what happened to him with Spandam.
That´s the whole point. He can build things that can hurt others if he puts it in the right hands. The Strawhats are the "right hands" and if he didn´t find out already on the Sea Train then at least since chapter 399 Franky knows it too.
-
As cool as the name Battle Merry is, it won't be it. After all, why would Franky name his dream ship after a fairly obscure character in the story who he doesn't know anything about (except that he gave the Straw Hats their first ship)?
Personally, I don't think it'll be called Battle anything. I'd say there's a good chance of it bearing Franky's name, but most likely not Battle Franky. One reason is that it'd be just another in his Battle Franky series, and another is that he probably wouldn't want his "dream ship" to be little more than a weapon. Maybe Puffing Franky (if it's steam powered), Running Franky, hell, I don't know… why not Super Franky?
-
No, having the term Franky in it bites much more then having the term battle in it. For Going Merry it made sense because Merry wasn´t that much of a big character and his name fell only three or four times in the story.
But having the ship named after one of the Strawhats themselves would really suck. It just bites for the ship to have the same name as one of the characters on board.
-
I dont know if it has been said, but how about Going Tom?
-

I predict that if Franky gives the SHs a ship, then Franky and Luffy will fight over the name.
-
It could be named the Cutty Flam, Tom's Honor, the Pirates Dream.
Who knows the only thing I'm certain of is that Franky will be the creator and the Strawhat's have already paid for it.
-
Hmmm just wondering…. Who's gonna love the ship more after they build it?
Ussop or Franky?Ussop as we know have always loved merry because it's like the parent/child relationship
On the other hand, I have this gut feeling that Franky's finally gonna learn his lesson of "I want to create the ship of my dream" which he wanted to learn from Tom. After he learns the lesson he's gonna own the ship with the pride and sail on.
-

Erm, Usopp loved Going Merry because it was a gift from Kaya. True she didn´t give it to him but Luffy but it still is something that reminds him of her and that makes him hold the ship in a little higher respect then the rest of the crew.
With Franky´s ship it would be different. If Franky becomes a part of the crew then sooner or later all other crewmates will feel the same towards him. There won´t be any special relationship between Usopp and him as Usopp had it with Kaya.
Franky on the other will be the creator of the ship. No matter how much the others will love it that can´t compete with the relation between a creator and creation.
-
I don't actually think franky will end up building the ship. It was Iceburg who said he'd pay the Sh's back "somehow."
That said, I like the suggestions "battle merry" or "going Franky." Especially when viz translates as "Franky go."
