More evidence that Komatsu is one-of-a-kind. Looks like he's the only one of his old friends who's still on the right path. And apparently ranking isn't everything since the maker of the century soup isn't in the top 100.
Toriko
-
-
Average chapter. This new guy reminds me on Alfaro. Who's aid is he, though? Kuromado or Midora himself?
The first page with Tommy is atrociuos. That's not how you draw human legs, Shimabu.
And with Toriko's world so grossly overfixed on food, bishokukai plan doesn't sound that much shocking. "We kidnap cooks and make them cook! Shishishi!"
-
Well, it's official. This is definitely my second favourite series behind OP. Shimabukuro's character designs really are fantastic.
-
-
Well there's yer problem right there
Don't deny Tommy his right to be human just because he looks like a metrosexual musclebeast.
-
I know evil metrosexual musclebeast chefs with huge insect colonies teeming inside of them is a large demographic but
-
But nothing. Or do you want to meet our friendly gourmet tolerancy comittee?
-
I love interludes where we get to see the evil guys, so I really enjoyed this chapter. The island beneath the castle was a really great touch.
-
Okay so a few things.
When this series moves on with plot, holy hell it does a good fucking job. Then we have the talk of the top 100 chefs, it's awesome to see new characters come into the story.and yeah this will be a rescue ark, but you guys WANTED to see the 4 kings work together right? Well here ya go. P:
and honestly I can't wait for the reactions of everyone when they hear that their favorite chef has been captured. Especially Zebra's and Toriko's. lol
Oh btw. I think Komatsu wont go with out fighting, I mean if he's got Melk's knife on his person, (( and I mean who wouldn't? It's a knife made my melk.)) he should have 1 -2 decent attacks against the gt robo. This might just be wishful thinking though, I just wish Komatsu had a little backbone is all. :/ I mean after all the crazy shit he's been through, (( thanks to Toriko)) you think he'd be not as scared when something something out of this world. And does anyone else think Staayujin will be an anti-hero?
-
The first page where Tommrod is in, he's in an awkward position. What's up with the way he's holding his right arm?
-
Liked the chapter, I was always appreciate these rare chapters were the bad guys get together. I wonder how tommyrod got his arm and wings back. Easiest answer would be regeneration, since he is pretty much an insect.
Nice concept with garbage island, maybe Shimabukuro got this idea from great pacific garbage patch in real life, like when he explained what water bears are.
Also odd that Komatsu isn't in the top 100, finding out the ingredients for the century soup, you know, the legendary soup that forces people to do silly faces, didn't seem to be enough for that. -
-
Staayujin is totally the other friend Komatsu mentioned.
-
Haven't read this yet (despite not being able to stop singing that theme from that One Piece crossover episode). Everytime I try to, I just stop and re-evaluate everything I have to do. I know I'll get to it eventually because I'm hearing nothing but good things about it.
-
@Kaze: Good job man, I can totally see the four kings coming together to save Komatsu. He's really the only reason they would ever work together.
-

That would be so awesome if all this happened. And if it does, I'm sure it will rock. I would love to see them try to save Komatsu. I have a feeling that Coco would show up late and make Sunny angry with a beaut'ful appearance. The possibilities are endless!
-
Just so you know, Niceny's name is said like "Nice" and "knee". I spelled it the way I thought was clearest and most intentional, because it contains the word "nice". And writes "ny" in this weird way "ニィ" with a small ィ. All uses of that had words ending in y.
I should also mention, "Executive Chef" is a rank above "Head Chef" apparently. So Kuromado isn't the highest Chef in the Bishokukai it seems. Niceny is only that guy's assistant though. And remember, the Vice Head Chefs are the "Sous Chefs", and I'll be writing it like that if the idea comes up again.
Also, I might point out, some of those titles of the guys had parts of their names in English and stuff. "Ethnic King" is using katakanized-English. So I dunno what that means either. A bunch of guys were called "Master" so I translated "油使い" (Abura Tsukai) as "Oil User" even though 使い (Tsukai) can mean like "master" or "tamer" or other thing of the like. I think one of the "King"s was English, but Zaus isn't. He's "料理王"(Ryouri-Ou).
And about Frohze, yeah. He was Acacia's combo partner. So he's probably dead. But Ichiryuu, Jirou, and Mitora were all diciples of Acacia, so maybe those super-guys have really long lifepans because of what they eat. It's mentioned somewhere Acacia did what he did 500 years ago.
If that guy who made that big Toriko-character chart is still around, he'll have a lot of modifying to do.I like how they at least left Tommyrod's scar from Leg Fork. Apparantly he got both arms and his wings re-attached or regrown. At least one he had a new one attached.
And I like the idea of Staajyun as a kind of anti-hero. His character's grown a lot since "The scary guy wearing black in a big cape."And I agree with whomever mentioned a few pages back about how there was a master chef in a Non-IGO-Member-Nation who used poison and Coco was going to a non-member-nation, so there's a good chance Coco trained with him somehow. Coco'll probably show up soon, too. Since… he's the last of the 4 Heavenly Kings who hasn't showed up in this training arc.
-
The evolved Nitro can produce hypnotic pheromones… Now I can say for sure that Zebra will make the baby Nitro concealed at the Honey Prison his pet.
-
@Kewl
Tbh I'd rather Tairan will become Coco's chef partner. It'd be a nice change if one of the Heavenly Kings won't try to persuade K bbbvvv Komatsu to make a combo with him.
Oh and I like the idea of Zebura choosing that Nitro baby as his pet partner.
-
Ethnic King, the first thing I thought of was a southern black person who cooks comfort food/soul food. I'm from the south, so this isn't racist one bit, but it just fits. Now, I doubt Shima even knows what soul food is though…
Also Kewl, if the Vice-Chefs/Sous Chefs are indeed Sous Chefs then they would be the underlings of the newly revealed Executive Chef right and not the prep cooks for the Head Chef Kuramado? Because, Sous Chefs usually are the prep cooks for the Executive Chef(well, this is at least what I believe lol).
I am struggling to believe it will be Komatsu kidnapped and then an ensuing rescue arc. That would mean his saviors would have to enter the Gourmet World to rescue him, and I believe it is still too early for the 4 Kings. I think it will be his d-bag friend who lost his way that gets captured since he is a 7 star chef in the top 100. I think Staa's words were for the future(food for thought) and that GT Robo/Nitro had already been sent.
-
You are right Kewl, since Alfaro didn't even mention the Executive chef and his aid (Niceny) among the people who are capable of entering the Gourmet World. Because they were in the Gourmet World to begin with. Tommyrod even called him -sama, which is not a common thing from him. Zebra + Nitro kid as a pet, +1. Also, what's up with Ume-chan's head?
-
Those weird creatures at the beginning were actually freaky looking. This chapter is awesome lol.
-
To me his name translates to something like Naisunii. But my Japanese is VERY rough.
So his name is "Niceny" huh? Looks like my Japanese isn't so bad after all.
-
The Dust Zone reminded me a little bit of Grey Terminal.
-
goddamn, can we just get some sort of official chart for the ranks of the bishoukukai? I'm not familiar with paramilitary cooking organizations' usual structures.

agreed .
-
Well, I'd say to look on the Toriko Wiki, but that wasn't too organized and a lot of names were wrong. So I'll just list it here.
Bishokukai Hierarchy
Top Tier (Boss):
Boss - Mitora (Former disciple of Acacia along with Ichiryuu and Jirou. Wants to control all the world's ingredients by capturing God.)2nd Tier (Major Leaders):
Garcon (Waiter)- Alfaro (Personal aide to the Boss. Presumably one of the strongest in the Bishokukai.)
Executive Chef - ??? (Not named, but because there's an assistant to the Executive Chef there must be an even stronger Executive Chef. Based on his title, this is a higher rank than Head Chef.)
Assistant to the Executive Chef - Niceny (Described to be in the Gourmet World Elite. Meaning he is one of the people who has been going to Gourmet World for a long time.)
Sommelier - Limon (A sommelier is a guy who serves wine. This implies there could be other such jobs like this, like Saucier and such. He was said to be strong enough to go to Gourmet World.)
Head Chef - Kuromado (Described as strong enough to go to Gourmet World.)3rd Tier (Sous Chefs, a.k.a Vice Head Chefs): (All of them were described as strong enough to go to Gourmet World.)
Sous Chef - Grinparch (Fought Toriko at the Wul Volcano. He said he wants to suck Toriko and Terry up later.)
Sous Chef - Staajyun (Fought and lost to Toriko in the GT Robo. He was limited by the time-lag the GT Robos have, and could not use special abilities. Promised to eventually fight Toriko in person.)
Sous Chef - Tommyrod (Fought and lost to a joint effort of Toriko and Teppei. A large portion of his energy had been used to suppress the Parasite King.)4th Tier (Branch Chiefs):
Branch Chief of 1st Branch - Elg (Was not presant at the meeting in chapter 63 with Kuromado. He was the only Branch Chief described by Alfaro as strong enough to go to Gourmet World.)
Branch Chief of 2nd Branch - Yuu (Piloted the Micro GT Robo that captured the Century Soup for the Bishokukai.)
Branch Chief of 3rd Branch - Jerryboy
Branch Chief of 4th Branch - Barrygamon (Fought and defeated by Match in Ice Hell. It was stated that he was stronger than Match, who only really temporarily disabled him.)
Branch Chief of 5th Branch - Bogeyuz (Fought and defeated by Takimaru in Ice Hell. It was stated that he was stronger than Takimaru, who only really temporarily disabled him. Lodges in the bodies of other beings like a hermit crab and has a large collection of creatures.)
Branch Chief of 6th Branch - Sedoru (Fought as a GT Robo against Sani and loss. Was later beat up by Staajyun when he went on a rampage in the 6th Branch, so he wore bandages during the meeting at Bishokukai HQ. Collects eyeballs.)5th Tier (Workers):
Joejoe (Seems to be some kind of overseer of Bishokukai plans. He refers to Staajyun and other leaders with very-polite speech.)
Bei (Fought Toriko using a GT Robo in Gourmet Colosseum. He lost, and is apparantly not very strong. Staajyun and Mansam both indicated so.)
Zaiper (His nickname was "Mystery Man". He was on Regal Island in the GT Robo with fatigues. The robo was crushed by the Regal Mammoth and destroyed by Gido.)
Dohsa (His nickname is "Yeti" or "Wild Man". He was in the Black GT Robo originally, and switched with Staajyun. He barely appeared and wasn't mentioned in the anime.)
Gido (Drove the giant GT Robo on Regal Island and was defeated by Coco. He was later killed by Staajyun off-screen in his rampage after they failed to get the Jewel Meat.)As more things got revealed, I found that "Sous Chef" is more appropriate than "Vice Head Chef", because the Bishokukai's major titles are based off Brigade de Cuisine, a formal heirarchy of a kitchen. Shimabukuro didn't use the French term for that, so I didn't notice at first that that's what it meant.
These Wikipedia pages describes it in more detail, and may contain other possible jobs of the Bishokukai, I dunno.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigade_de_cuisine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chef
The Chef page describes the difference between Executive Chef and Head Chef. A Head Chef is in charge of the kitchen, but often has someone above him making executive decisions like the final decisions on the menu or staff decisions.I updated this a couple times and I think I got everything. And if anyone is wondering, I'm sure that "Branch Chief" is not a kitchen position like Vice Head Chef was.
-
^kewl, update the list with alfaro please
-
Thanks kewl. That's really awesome.
Quick thoughts on the latest chapter. I like people connecting the poison chef with Coco and I agree they probably would meet. But
having a combo would ruin Komatsu's haremI'm assuming Tairan is on the same "era/level" of Setsuno/Melk I/the other members of the older generation. Though this is just a gut feeling. Also 50/50 on Komatsu's kidnapping. The bishokukai seems to be after 99 Ootake so I'm still not sure if Komatsu will end up getting kidnapped too.

That's awesome of you kewl.
Hmm, thinking Elg might be Toriko's first Gourmet World obstacle then ?
-
One other thing I thought I'd mention. Does this thing remind anyone of the same sort of thing Oda did at a few point in One Piece? Like when we first heard who Whitebeard was, and about the Shichibukai and the Yonkou and the various Admiral ranks? It's similar to the ranks of the IGO and the Bishokukai and the high-level chefs. He's giving background to show how strong some of the strongest guys are in smaller things between arcs.
-
Komatsu… Have my doubts about him as character. We have seen Setsuno made shit Tommyrod's pants or it was another Bishokukai. I can't remember.
I think as a chef Komatsu too should held power. Manga-ka (don't know his name) should be thinking this too but how? It's look like for being powerful in Toriko world you have to have Gourmet Cells.
So you can evolve your body physically to gain inhuman attack and defence. And without inhuman defence nor defence you can't withstand a Capture Level 5 animal's attack.
So either Setsuno and other chiefs have this Gourmet Cells. Or there is a alternative way to gain power.
It hasn't been mentioned yet but eating all those special ingredient may effect on your cells to transform those in to Gourmet Cells. Because I don't see an alternative way to Komatsu to power up.
And as a reader I think he should be gaining some power too. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to hype up other chefs. -
I was thinking the same thing.
-
I'm gonna laugh so hard if during the eventual war vs the bishokukai ensues that Zongeh has a fight against Bei.
-
Zonge might become a King after the war.
-
I hope Zongeh becomes a fake hero or something. Like Mr. Satan after the Cell games. Zongeh gets credit for taking down the Gourmet Corp.
-
Finally we are getting a little bit of a backstory on someone. Sure as hell took long enough.
I still want to see a strong figure amongst the "good guys" being beaten by one of the Bishokukai though. The Bishokukai have been showing a good amount of strong guys already but i want to see them do some damage.
-
Just read the mangastream version. Very bad translation imo, compared to Kewl's.
-
just read the mangastream translation and it sucked, good job Kewl you kicked there ass!!!
-
i'm sorry but i thought executive chef and head chef is on the same level and souf chef is the second in command after executive chef..
-
Zonge should be the one to find god ingridient and become the second coming of that Acacia guy.
-

Totally see this.

This was your best work yet
If it is yours
but it's still awesome XD

So it turns out Bishokukai are sending out Nitros to capture problematic chiefs, and not Nitros stealing chiefs in parallel with Bishokukai for their own reasons. Right? For organization to control such beings is sure impressive. I believe they have enough muscle mass to force labor on them, and not have a pact with Nitros.
-
I'm honestly rather glad we had a chapter devoted mostly to the villains. One of the biggest differences between a good Shonen and a great Shonen is that the best Shonen tend to have the best antagonists, capable of supporting their own scenes on their own.
I'm hoping Komatsu will get captured because if the rescue mission is for Ootake, then no one will care. Since it's a character we never met or heard of before and who didn't even really seem that likeable from what little we saw of them. I'm thinking the 4 Kings will have to work together to rescue him. That'll be great.

It could also just be on Komatsu's behalf, and it leading up to him getting a lesson out of this.
Not sure if Stayjun would be that dickish.
-
I prefer Komatsu being taken out too. What will happen depends on that bird. If it is a nitro, since it has been commanded to capture #99 chef. All it is going to do is capturing him and leaving afterwards.
But if it is a GT Robo, user will most likely recognize Komatsu as Toriko's combo or Miracle Soup's finder and will capture him too. Which leaves us with a rescue arc. -

Creating excellent villains seems easy enough, but how the villians are defeated make or break a series. That was the major failing with bleach, it had awesome villains (e.g. espada) with a great lead-in but they were defeated like fodder and then the deal with aizen just wasn't funny at all. Ulquiorra was the last respectable villian in bleach. Let's hope all the villains in Toriko get a suitable ending.

Ulqiorra was respectable?
Bleachs villains never were awesome. They could've been made into something decent but awesome? Never.
-
Well, you're free to have your opinion, but it was after Ulquiorra died that bleach went downhill for me. And I loved Byakuya as a villian, he was too cool for school.
Back on topic, maybe Komatsu will be able to reform his chef friend during this arc. Watching Komatsu and the heavenly kings in action might help him change his ways.
