1. Will Viz Media release a new printing of color walk 1?
because I kinda heard that it was out of print

2.What was its original price back 2005? because I found one in amazon, but the price is too much... 74.99$

1. Usually art books don't get multiple prints, so you're mostly out of luck.

2. It was about $7.99 back in 2005. What exactly did you see on Amazon? I'm curious that sounds weird.

Actually thats about the same price I get when I look it up on Viz's website.

That's because Viz's shop is just an amazon portal anyway. Not at home to check my copy, but I vaguely remember paying about £10-15 for it, so it should probably be around $15-20 new were it still in print.

If you're not too bothered about being able to read the text & toriyama interview, the japanese version is still cheap & available, cdjapan or somesuch will sell it.

I'm just chiming in to say that I do support and actually like the Viz manga. One Piece volume 1 was an impulse purchase for me back in 2006, and it was what got me into the series. While I seriously dislike the editing of sound effects, Zolo, etc, it is the best investment for North American OP IMO. I was seriously disheartened way back when, when we were at volume 18 or so, and they were coming out basically 1 volume a year. I remember actually doing the math and realizing that Arabasta wouldn't be wrapped up until I was out of college (and I was like 16 or 17 at the time). Needless to say, I was extremely surprised to see us up to the 40s the next time I stopped by the manga section at a book store.

I honestly totally missed out on that. Literally, just 20 volumes just came out of nowhere it seemed like.

So yeah, I don't know. I think nowadays I think it's an excellent translation (first 20 volumes are still a bit shaky for me), and a tangible book is my preferred method of experiencing One Piece. Just picked up the latest volume the other day (I check in every few months just to buy it out and fill up my collection), so I now have volumes 1-57 on my shelf, a collection that I've been amassing for 5 years now. It's a pretty cool feeling.

It's unlikely it'll go back in print, and if it does it'll be a while from now. I mean maybe it could if Color Walk 2 sells really well, but if does you're more likely to see new supplemental books than a reprint of Color Walk 1.

Out of all the early volumes, I think volume 14 was had top notch translation compared to most of them. Maybe that's just a slight observation.

Does Viz have a partner when printing the Artbooks? I know here the company says they wait until someone else wants them, because of the higher printing costs, so they can print them together or something.

The only reason were getting CW2 is because France or Italy is getting it, too. I'm not sure if the US is part of that deal. Kind of hard being on a different continent and all, but I did think it was odd that so shortly after it was announced for here, it was announced for the US.

You should write and tell Viz then. They most likely won't put Color Walk 1 back into print because there isn't enough demand. They won't print something that will cost them money in the end. As Darkstorm said, Manga is a niche in the US and is becoming less and less mainstream. Not even Naruto, Death Note, and Bleach are as well known as they used to be, let alone the niche titles like One Piece within a niche industry. We're pretty lucky to be getting Color Walk 2 (and hopefully the other color walks). Hopefully we'll get Data Book Green and Strong World. Wishful thinking I suppose.

There's more fans, but it's less mainstream, cause there not shown on T.V as much compared to what they were 4 years ago.

Ohh I didn't realize there were more now. I really don't care about it being non-mainstream at all…I'm just glad that the industry is doing well. Hey, it's better that it has loyal fans that will stick with it rather than something like a fad that people will like cause it's mainstream for a few years then leave behind when they get to be "too old" or "too cool" for anime / manga.

What Viz needs to see more than anything else is for One Piece to go up in popularity and volume sales to increase. That has to reach a certain point in order to reprint a color walk.

I don't know the exact numbers they'd need to see for financial feasibility, but if they start selling twice as many new volumes as they did when CW1 went out of stock, for example, then it would make business sense to reprint it.

In a worst case scenario you could always order a Japanese copy. I'm sure they have no issues reprinting them to keep them in stock.

This^. Plus, 98% of the Color Walks are pictures, so it's not like you have to know Japanese to understand it. The only thing that may give you trouble in the Japanese book is the interview between Oda and Akira Toriyama at the very end, but I'm sure that's up online somewhere.

It was like #3 but that was when there was the speed-up and thus more new "One Piece" on the shelf. No big deal it dropped down this far.

From the top 3….well I like Naruto XD.

11th isn't bad for only volumes 56 and 57 being released in Q1 and Q2. I mean....volume 50 of Naruto came out when 56 of OP came out and volume 51 of Naruto came out when 57 of One Piece came out, but we already know Naruto outsells OP by a wide margin in the US unfortunately.

Death Note is probably so high because they're reprinting it in bigger double volumes. I think four double volumes (1-8 in the original volumes) came out this year alone so far. I mean, I know Death Note is popular but otherwise it would be very difficult for a 12 volume series that ended 3 years ago stay so high in the sales......though Dragon Ball still somehow sells a lot.

They're doing omnibus releases of Naruto, Bleach, and FMA as well so that likely boosted sales for those series.

Next year it might look a little different. The reprint of Death Note will be finished by then and so will Fullmetal Alchemist.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think Bakuman is great, but it's good to see One Piece did better. Bakuman had volumes 3, 4, and 5 released in Q1 / Q2 since it switched over to a bimonthly release schedule. Bakuman is one of Viz's better selling titles and had three volumes out, but OP did better which is a good sign. It's definitely holding it's own after the speed up.

I've got a reply again from Vizmedia when I ask if they will print a new Color walk 1, they said,,

"As of right now not yet, but reprint status' change often as backorders come in"

I think I've decided not to buy an old one but to wait for vizmedia to reprint it again. Its most likely they will print it again in the future, and I dont mind to wait. I will only buy an old one if they directly said to me that "no, we will not print it again"

backorders are… if enough people want to buy it and show this by ordering it from Viz they will consider republishing it. they may have a threshold of a certain number before they will.

for example say 1000 orders come in they may calculate it is worth reprinting

I understand the earlier volumes in translation are still not exactly great, with Zoro being Zolo and all kinds of other stuff - is that correct? Will there be corrections made in the future that are known of? Or, more importantly, is there the possibility that when OP reaches its conclusion, that there will be corrected reprints?
I would love to get the original Japanese versions, but since I know no Japanese whatsoever (except stuff like "Mugiwara" and some catchy phases :ninja:) there's really no point. So, I'm going for English ones. In GB. Those would still be the American translations though, right? Any clarification is very much appreciated.

There was 4Kids terms, toned down swearing, and some stereotypical pirate talk but it was mostly minor. Around Skypiea it became a more, fan-friendly faithful translation. Changed terms will stay though to be consistent.

It is possible that when the series ends there will be a special, corrected reprint. It depend also on sales and if there's some special-edition thing from Japan.
