Cover Story Theories and Discussion

Well, I've seen threads about predictions over next volume's color, characters and so on, and there's also the colour prediction thread, but I haven't seen anything like this before. If there is, I'm sorry XD
As you all know, Oda is always drawing new cover page stories, so, why don't we try guessing who he's gonna feature on the next one and what is gonna happen on his/her story?

As I started the thread, I shall also give my opinion first. I guess Oda will start a cover story telling about what have been happening with the Navy during these 2 years, featuring mostly Smoker and maybe Coby and Helmeppo. I'd say it'd show how Smoker ended up going to the G1 base and then changing to the new place where Marineford is, as it's place has changed. I guess Kuzan really became Fleet Admiral, and it should show which Vice-Admiral took his place. Maybe Momonga, who knows. Maybe even Smoker is a Vice-Admiral himself now.

Well, what do you guys think? Who's gonna be the star of the next cover page story? What's gonna happen to him/her? Will it affect the story like Buggy's, Hacchi's, Coby/Helmeppo's and the Strawhat's cover pages or is it gonna just be something parallel with no repercution at all, like Enel's or Wapol's cover pages?

if there is anything about the marines moving their base and stuff I think it will be in the
actual chapters and not as a cover story.

for me I really want to see Moria. so I think it will be him, or Garp.

There aint no cover stories and there never was!

Man it's been a long time. After the Straw Hats went through theirs I was eagerly awaiting the next story in line. Maybe now that the series is in part 2 Oda will jump on it very soon. My guess is Magellan's quest for a new purpose! Since he was so down about what happened to Impel Down maybe he is just traveling the world feeling worthless, and then discoveres something about himself that he already knew.

I'd like to see a cover story form the marines (Coby, Smoker, Garp, etc), but i would be happy with the WB or RH or Buggy Pirates' cover story.

BTW a cover story from the fake SHs (especially Cocoa with Spandam) would be hilarious.

Cover stories usually center around someone/something that appeared an arc or two ago. I'd say, since the timeskip happened, we'll see either:

a) Where are they now(s) revolving around the people that aided the Strawhats during the 2 years (Heracles, Haredas, Torino Kingdom tribe, etc.),

b) Fake Strawhats' later exploits (or FakeRobin and FakeChopper's demise), or

c) Something completely random (like Crossword's PX-1 adventure)!

Either way, I would be glad for a cover story with any marine.

Not sure if there'll even be a new one. The new one should have started loooooooong time ago, but Oda just keep drawing random animal covers instead.
Anyways, if we get a new one, I hope for Foxy or Gin/Krieg as I've always done.

There are many chars that are "available" to it. Like Buggy, the Supernovas, Teach, marines and so on. But it surely would be nice to see some old enemies or such coming back to the series. Oh, there's also Crocodile.

A series that depicts Mihawk's quest for sanity after hanging out with Perona for too long. (honestly I wanted Perona in a cover arc, not the way Oda did it randomly throwing her on Zoro's island and starting all that random and idle "will she join the crew" crap)

Now I'm more leaning to the less important supernovas unless they, like Bonney start showing up in the manga, but I don't think they will.

I think Apoo could be a good story. He has quite a comic appearance and he was left literally running off a cliff.

• Absalom and Hogback (maybe Moria) … who knows, maybe they run into Perona and they make a legit pirate crew.
• Cocoa and the Fox (and the cucumber) would definitely be hilarious, but it's too soon for that.

Also, we don't know what will become of Black, but I'd love for him to encounter other pirates like Foxy or Buggy and tricking them.

edit: also, I initially felt like Magellan and Hannyabal would be cool, but I kind of want the whole Magellan issue to be left in shadows ... Part of me hopes that the Magellan inches away from his life was actually Bon Clay.

Moria and Magellan, with their uncertain fates, don't seem like good candidates as of now. Loose-end characters don't typically appear on covers; only ones who have executed their first acts to absolute completion and are being set-up for their second acts.

But I'd definitely bet on one or more of the fake Strawhats at some point. They're just too fun.

I guess this is a good time to up this thread, as it seems a new one is at last starting. So, what do you guys think might happenx next, though we don't have much of a clue yet?

I'd say Oda will start by showing us what happened to many chars like Teach, Crocodile and so on, but I don't have much of a clue as to what it's gonna be about. I guess we need at least one more cover to start actually discussing abou it. Oh well XD

Did Smoker said something like that he needs strong marine soldiers to defeat the straw hats in the NW ? Juding from chapter 580 cover, it is possible that Smoker will recruit Coby and Hermepo.

It would be cool to see a timeskip Coby and hermeppo. I think timeskip Tashigi will be even hotter and I am hoping she wil have longer hair.

Personally I think that this is basically the usual chapter where the crew gets a bounty boost just into cover-story mode to conserve on time. We will probably see the usual people reacting to the news (Vivi, Shanks, Garp, Mihawk, crew's family and friends..ect..) but hopefully we also get some look at the new Supernova designs or at least hints to what the new Admiral and Schichibukai hierarchy is right now.

I'm thinking a regular "Where are they now" styled moving from place to place in the first half of the Grand Line, showing how time has passed for the character's Luffy and C:O met there. Perhaps parts of Water 7 are floating on water by now.

There are just too many people to be shown. Sure, it'd be nice, but I'd like more if Oda showed us something else. Maybe someone pics the news about the Strawhats and his/her story develops from that.

I think it'll be just a series of covers showing how places we saw two years ago changed. We will see familiar faces and places reacting to the Strawhats, and that's all.

I'd like a Hancock coverstory, though… (yeah, I know, surprising, isn't it?)

It would be a good opportunity to show people that won't feature in the 'new world', and not use up a chapter for it.(Like Kureha, Iceberg, baratie etc.)
I would be surprised if he showed people we are going to see later in the 'new world'

Such a simple idea, yet so obvious that it'd show up. It's an excellent alternative to what many fans were hoping for, as in how whatever characters have changed over the two years. I wish I had seen it coming.

Those 9 Primarily - Crocus I don't believe because I think that would spoil Laboon and Brooks Reunion.
Garp and Coby are likely as well - but being that they are military and the way that the SH's left the SA they should already know.

I was thinking Buggy or Mr 3 but that may spoil upcoming meetings with them this would also be a factor with some of the other villians as it would depend on what stories they may be re-introduced via.

Supernova's are also ones I doubt - but then again a single page showing their progress may not be all that bad.

Well the cover storys normally end up effecting the main story we could out recently that even Wapols story about making a new metal did as well because it was used on the walls in marineford war, Buggys story before the time skip did as well because that put him in impel down.

So i think we will get one with Perona going back to Moria or one to do with Coby training with Garp.

I Think Moriah is really dead. I mean, it was DoFlamingo along with some Pacifistas, I don't think Moriah could escape that. Nonetheless, seems like Oda will really show the entire "world" instead of focusing in one story only for the time being. So, Makino's son? With who? Though I dislike the idea and don't think it's too possible, I really can't help but point Luffy as the possible father.
