Merida sounds wonderful. I admit I was a bit wary about the one plot point they mentioned in that story, but I can handle it I think.
! Hopefully Merida will remain independent and unmarried by the end of the movie. I'm not crazy enough to think there won't be a romantic interest, but it's be cool if she was 'just friends' with one of the suitors by the end.
! I'm fine with marriage as long as it's made very clear that it's HER CHOICE, not just giving into duties for the kingdom.
So apparently Brad Bird has some ideas for The Incredibles 2, but he won't make a movie until there's a concrete story to tell:

Damn.
I won't keep my hopes up, though.
It's like…..the greatest dream and the weirdest nightmare at the same time.
Brave's new trailer is out! Why aren't we discussing it
Because people were silly and posted it in the Disney thread instead.
Hm, so that's Brave? I won't make a judgement just yet, but from what I've seen, it seems a bit less dark than I had hoped. Hopefully it will still be good regardless.
I think the trailer looks great, but I've learned to not make too many judgments on trailers…I've gone in seeing a completely different film than the trailer promotes many a time. You'll rarely see any darker themes focused on a movie from Disney/Pixar. But likewise, you really shouldn't expect an unusually dark film from them.
Pixar ads are ALWAYS deceptive. With the exception of Up, (where the ads focused entirely on the second half with the talking dog and craaaazy bird, understandably so) they're usually REALLY good about either making trailers up completely from scratch, or not showing anything past the first 1/3 or so of the movie.
I actually did get the impression that the trailer was going out of its way to hide an important plot point. Namely, how little attention was given to the bear, which seems to be one of the biggest elements of the film.

I think some of the earlier synopsis and random designs they've released have revealed a little bit, but I'm not going to talk about or speculate too heavily. I want to go in as surprised as possible.
Brave trailer
fapfapfap
As a proud Scotsman, this should be a good laugh. Also, Billy Connolly=Sold.
I'm still mad at you AP for your Up hate.
Who the hell hates Up?
When did anyone here say that we hate Up?
@Monkey:
I'm still mad at you AP for your Up hate.
…. whut.
Grr, we found one or two things that are mildly bothersome about the movie. That means we hates it!
When's June coming.
The worst thing I have to say about Up is that I will never like it more than Wall-E in the Pixar movie hierarchy. But just the first ten minutes of Up are better than 90% of what Hollywood brings out these days, animated or not.
And new Brave trailer! Yeaaahh!
The trailers is really good to see the visual mood of Brave (and as always everything looks amazing).
There's not much of a coherent story I can conclude of it though, except for cool scottish accents everywhere. And Merida being a total badass (she's the first female Pixar protagonist right? So I know I can expect something good).
But nowadays I almost count on the trailers not making much sense so that I can be blown away completely by the full thing.
Up was a very good movie. It had a very creative premise, a very interesting message about moving on, some really endearing moments and the first 10 minutes of Up especially is some of the greatest material ever to grace the big screen ever. With that said…the talking dogs in airplanes (and all the kiddy and formulaic elements especially) really hurt the movie. Which is a huge shame.
How can anyone hate the talking dogs!!?

Well, she's the first headliner protagonist. Jessie, Helen Parr, and Eve, to name a few, are all protagonist heroines, but this is Merida's story.

Dug was fine. The rest of them however. In the tiny airplanes…

Yeah I've had this conversation before. As far as I'm concerned she is the first true female lead (who came after a rat, an 80 year old man and a robot). The one who we all focus on with no male counterpart to overshadow her. Again, not to say Pixar hasn't had really good females but…they've all been part of a group or part of a pair with the male half to complete them. This time it's the girl's show for the entire movie. You go girl!
How can anyone hate the talking dogs!!?
The marketing greatly overused them; that and the business with the planes created a dissonant tone since it went from Muntz's dangerous insanity to jok-SQUIRREL! Anyway, the sheer goofiness of the entire business with the dogs further undermined the villain of a film that didn't need one to start with.
A friend of mine who works for Pixar spoiled me on the plot of Brave a bit tonight >.<…as to what the story behind the bear is. Maybe it won't be so much of a spoiler when the movie is closer to release, because I assume you'll be finding out early on in the movie, but I wouldn't have guessed it from the current trailer. The info is easily available online, though, so maybe I'm already the last to know here.
Don't say a word!!! Pixar movies are not meant to be spoiled!!!!
I wasn't going to! Just want to confirm that trailers really don't really tell you jack about the movie.
Good! They shouldn't!!
Thank god. I felt that the trailer was very lacking, but my theory was that the movie had more than what's being shown.
I'd love to be proven correct.
Brave hits theaters on June 22nd, three days before my birthday. Happy Birthday to me~!
And for people saying the Brave trailer isn't all that great and hoping the movie's better, I'd like to take us back ten years to the trailer for Monsters, Inc:
Not the best trailer, but an excellent movie that was so much more than the sneak peek. Heck, the first Toy Story trailer was a mess of random clips that gave very little of the plot's depth away. I'm sure Brave will be the same way. :D
Charlie Rose interviews John Lasseter. Some neat stuff.
http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/12024
The first 10 minutes is just clips of old movies and the Brave trailer, so that first bit is skippable.
Apaprently Lasseter's favorite movie is Dumbo.
Includes a little tiiiiny tease about Pete Doctor's next thing, tentively scheduled for 2014.
" Docter's new film would indeed take place inside the mind - of a little girl, according to Lasseter. He stated, "It is about her emotions as characters, and that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen."
I'll just have to assume it isn't like Herman's Head.
So… they're making a feature length version of the Teen Titan's episode Nevermore?

YES YES YES!!!!
More Female Heroines for Pixar.
‘John Carter’ Tracking Shockingly Soft: “Could Be Biggest Writeoff Of All Time”
Hollywood is in a tizzy over the early tracking which just came online this morning for Walt Disney Studios‘ John Carter opening March 9th. “Not good. 2 unaided, 53 aware, 27 definitely interested, 3 first choice,” a senior exec at a rival studio emails me. Another writes me, ”It just came out. Women of all ages have flat out rejected the film. The tracking for John Carter is shocking for a film that cost over $250 million. This could be the biggest writeoff of all time.” I’m hearing figures in the neighborhood of $100 million. And the studio isn’t even trying to spin reports of the 3D pic’s bloated budget any more.
Now, to be fair, this very soft tracking has been expected. The studios’ private reports have shown for some time very soft awareness and very little wannasee. So what’s Disney’s explanation? “It’s the last leftover from the previous regime of Dick Cook,” an executive who works for successor Rich Ross reminds me. “We’re not running away from the movie. Our job is to sell it.” Then again, Cook also left Ross Alice In Wonderland to sell, too, along with other hits and a few misses.
Disney is nervous, really nervous, but trying to hold out some hope. ”We know that we have a long way to go. It’s still four weeks out, and the bulk of the media hasn’t hit yet. Our Super Bowl ad did what we intended it to do: have a pop of awareness. On Sunday we launch a full campaign with 90+% of all of our media ready to go.” Problem is, John Carter (formerly titled John Carter Of Mars) only has a two-week window before Lionsgate’s hotly anticipated The Hunger Games opens March 23rd.
Disney is still planning a gigantic worldwide day-and-date push for John Carter with all the frills no matter how dismal its prospects look. ”After all the movie has Andrew Stanton of Finding Nemo and Wall-E,” an insider explains to me.
As proof? I can not for the life of me find a thread on this forum dedicated to it, though I know we've talked about it before. So I'm just going to plop it into the Pixar thread because Andrew Stanton is involved and there's a lot of CG and its under the Disney umbrella.
Changing the name from Princess of Mars to John Carter of Mars to John Carter probably didn't help. Also, the reaaaaally lackluster early trailers. And that ALL the promo materials look dull. And that, even though Frazetta didn't bring his interpretation to the table till 50 years later… Frazetta is what everyone thinks of when they imagine this property visually, and that's not what's being shown. And the fact that, I don't care that the book came first by decades, or that Avatar is a terrible movie... Avatar beat it to the punch with the exact same plot and more exotic visuals. And Star Wars did desert planets already. And Total Recall had a RED Mars. (I know in the books its not red, but... its what people expect.)
It looks like a bizarre generic superhero movie set in desert.
I trust in Stanton, but...
John Carter is a really lame title for a sci-fi/fantasy action movie.
It sounds more like a drama or possibly a realistic mystery/thriller.

The point was, "John Carter is a really lame name for a sci-fi/fantasy action movie."
"Princess of Mars" is a good name, it tells you everything. Even "John Carter of Mars" evokes something.
"John Carter", by itself ,is not a name that says or evokes anything.
i'm sure the movie will be great
I trust in Stanton. And that like most Pixar films, the trailers can't capture anything in 3 second bits.
Has Disney not been promoting this movie? This is the first time I've heard of it.
I've seen trailers and commercials, but I don't think they're pulling out the big guns for it.

Some idiot at Disney keeps pushing for these one-or-two word movie titles. The same guy who got Rapuzel renamed Tangled and The Snow Queen renamed Frozen. Somebody go fire him/her immediately.
I understand the logic here. "Princess and the Frog didn't do great! Drop "princess" from all titles! And 2D animation while you're at it!" followed by "Mars Needs Moms was the biggest bomb of the year! Drop "Mars" from all titles!"
I get that. But at the same time… by the time this movie releases next month its full title might be "JC".
no it's going to be "space story"
Honestly, this isn't Jerry Maguire or Michael Clayton.
Spruce up your titles Disney!

If nothing else, the pissed off evangelicals would get it some media coverage.
Rocky Balboa of Mars.
I hope I'll be able to watch Brave in the cinema setting when it comes out.
My European friends across the seas, how difficult would it be to see movies in their native english in Europe, no dub and preferably without subtitles either?

The association fallacy is a most disgusting sight, isn't it.
