What we need is another F-ZERO character.. Probably not Goroh, maybe Black Bull, but then he'd end up being a clone or something, so how about… fuck it, I've got nothing.
This is why I kinda feel the next step would be to try and get other chars from Nintendo orientated series into the mix. We could have ones like Farmer (Harvest Moon) Goemon (Mystical Ninja) etc

If Ridley is playable, then Giga Bowser should be(fully) playable too. Oh! Master/Crazy Hand too. Imagine playing with all these massive creatures on stages with limited space. Epic.
yeah i don't like the idea of ridley being a playable character. I'd rather have adam malkovich cause at least he's a character with significance (who isn't a huge monster i.e. ridley, mother brain)

I've always wondered is professor layton actually a nintendo character. He's only appeard on nintendo consoles but i'm pretty sure level 5 isn't a nintendo company so i don't know where he stands

Captain Olimar was re-scaled for Brawl, too. I don't know if you've played Pikmin before, but in that game he's tiny. So I'm sure they could make Ridley about as big as Charizard and finally make him playable.

I think we'll certainly see one of the new Pokemon in it too. Probably (Hopefully) replacing Lucario since he just seemed to be there to promote the new gen.
Although for the customising thing it would be cool if they could put a larger pokemon roster for the pokemon trainer. maybe even allowing sync with B+W to have three from YOUR pokemon roster

Oh man. It's been around 4 years since I was chanting "Ridley for Brawl" with the rest of the Ridley fanatics on the Smash forums. Eventually they had to ban Ridley threads. I'm proud. It's what Ridley would have wanted.
We're going to have to pull out some major campaigns… Time to get started again~
see ridley is a GREAT choice. he is unique enough compared to many other fighters. I mean how many more swordsman can we get? thus why greatly against say cloud, besides fact he is overrated and i hate his fans
but just look at most characters and think in power of 3.

Mario: Mario, Luigi, Bowser
Kirby: Kirby, Metaknight, that king dude

yes they do have some extra's like Peach or a different link, but i really don't want to have like 10 different zelda characters or stuff like that. variety is best.

It's not like Bowser where he's basically just a ball of legs- thus a lot easier to scale down then say … Ridley who's just s skinny yet big fuck that would have a weird hitbox. Hell even in the old smash blog they mentioned him being far too big.
Now that being said, if any metriod characters DO have a chance to get a roster spot, it might as well be him since nobody else is really prevalent in these games. Still, I wouldn't bet money on Ridley.
Anyway, my preditions for the time being.
*Layton (If I recall there was something about him being invited to the game awhile ago?)
*Paper Mario (A good representative for all the Mario RPGs. We have "Toon Link", so why not an alternate Mario? He's very different from the regular Mario in terms of moves AND brings something aesthetically new to the franchise)
*Toon Zelda/Tetra (I believe they were supposed to be in Brawl or something? With the Uniqueness of Tetra and the special powers or whatever that Zelda's getting in the cel-shaded handhelds I didn't play, she'd seem like a good fit to make the rosters between Mario and Zelda equal.)
*New character from Kid Icarrus:Uprising (Sakurai is a biased fuck when it comes to making things, His favorite character Meta-knight is literally the BEST character, with his buddy's character being second best, hmmmm. Anyway his interest in the Kid Icarrus franchise kind of make this likely, I'd predict either Medusa or the big guy with the sword, he seems kind of important)
*Zoroark (sigh I don't really like this Mary-Sue of a pokemon, but given how it's marketed it's pretty much designed to replace Lucario)

About Ridley being too big it goes back to this and I quote "The big problem, though, comes from the idea of trying to get characters from a completely different universe to fit with the style that has been dictated by Nintendo's characters in a fighting game"
Either Isaac or Mathew would be awesome! Both are equally iconic IMO… one being more playable while the other being more recent. I'd also like a mage from Fire Emblem, like Michiah but I'd also like a female sword user like Lynn or Erika.
I'd also like the to use SS Link instead of TP Link, since it would improve his stats like crazy. He would be faster and have better jumps.
I would like Ike's "older" model, if it doesnt slow him down (but he doesnt seem to have much of a problem with that in the actual game cutscenes lol). The Black Knight would also be cool.
I don't know why, but I always thought Sora (KH) would suit this game so well...

That means absolutely nothing. Kirby and Olimar are absolutely tiny. Olimar is about the size of ant while Kirby is only 8 inches tall. These characters are rescaled to battle each other. Ridley could be the shape of Charizard easily and about as big as Bowser or Dedede is now. Also let's not forget Ridley's orginal appearance no taller than Samus in the first Metroid, as well as his melee appearance where he was barely bigger than Samus. Those who say he is too big barely take into consideration all the characters and universes that came before him. Aren't the smash bros characters just dolls/statues anyway?
In Sakurai's Japanese Brawl wishlist poll Ridley was way up there along with a few others and sadly became just a boss. I am absolutely certain he will be greatly considered for playable this time around.

Ridley appears in Brawl as one of the boss characters in the story mode. This was him relative to the other characters.

We won't see Isaac from Golden Sun, we'll see Matthew if anything. He's the new protagonist of the games, and Smash tends to go with the new characters in situations like that. Lucario is the only one that will probably get replaced.
And an IGN poll means nothing.
About sizes: remember the concept in the original game (that probably still remains): they're toys. Thus think of the games as "a kid playing with action figures of various Nintendo characters obviously not accurate to their real sizes" and you can pretty much make anyone a character, no matter how tiny (Olimar) or massive (some versions of Bowser or DK) Therefore, if a kid buys a toy of, say, Ridley and it's essentially on an even size playing field as Mario, then it can work.
Size doesn't matter, Smash Bros Pikachu is huge.

You can't compare Ridley to fucking Master Hand. MH has no importance outside of smash bros. It isn't even a character. It has no purpose outside of being a boss. Ridley was always a key character in Metroid and it's pretty much canon he's the one who killed Samus's parents. Hell, he was named after the guy who inspired Metroid to begin with.
How does making him small defeat his purpose? That's bullshit. Ridley has changed size in many metroid games, and was never a boss that depended on his size like Kraid. Plus, Sakurai has nothing against resizing him considering he did exactly that in Ridley's cameo in Melee. I'm not going to repost it because someone already did.
Ridley was highly desired and his exclusion was even touched upon in an interview with Sakurai.
If there is another Metroid addition it will be him. I already mentioned that there has been a pattern when deciding what characters to add to Brawl and next in line is a villain - ZeroSuit Samus fills in the ally slot. If he isn't included, it's because Metroid won't get another addition.
Saying canon size matters in a game that made literally penny sized Olimar playable is really, really stupid.

Ridley is not only the recurring boss both also THE main antagonist in Metroid, the reason he's never the final boss is because there's always something bigger story wise that needs to be take care of, Ridley however always appears to fight Samus and is as synonoumous to the franchise as Samus

That's a case of nintendo games needing more female protagonists. Those need to exist before they get included in the Smash games. Brawl accurately represented Nintendo, and Nintendo games are a sausagefest.
I'd like to see Ganon as a playable character this time, preferably based off the older games although I'd be fine with his design from Ocarina of Time.

I haven't played Advance Wars so I can't say much about that.
Fire Emblem is hard to work with since there are no recurring protagonists, so all PCs have to be any of those, but I did hear there was a lot of disappointment that Lyn was not a playable character. And she was a protagonist. She might make it.
Same issue with Earthbound, which as far as I know doesn't have any main female protagonist either.
Again with Pokemon.

Point is that Brawl shouldn't add female characters just for the sake of adding female characters. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as unhappy as any other girl that there aren't enough core games with female protagonists like with Metroid, but that's an issue Nintendo has to fix first before pointing the finger at Sakurai.
