Thats because the publishing company is switching over. Of course there's going to be a hiccup in the schedule.

NO NEW CHAPTER YET
Sorry for getting your hopes up guys.
Just wanted to say that Animum Mutare has caught up in the Negima releases for those who want to read the current Negi vs Fate fight in much better quality. Oh and also new chapter should be out by Monday or Tuesday:) And apparently the raw is awesome (though I don't know if the dude is talking about how awesome the chapter is or how easy it is to clean, probably the latter).

Does this series have a proper anime adaption?

Does this series have a proper anime adaption?
Anime sucks except for the Other World ovas.
-
I just read your comment on the Reborn thread and came to this thread right away to ask that. I'm usually an anime-first guy, can't really explain why besides saying I prefer anime over manga although the manga is usually better overall.
Guess I'll check out the manga and ignore the anime or pray that it gets another adaption like FMA.

I also think that would be great for Negima to get an anime adaptation that follows the whole story like Fullmetal Alchemist and (possibly) Berserk. But I don't know how popular Negima is in Japan.

Good luck getting into it.

I pray every day for an accurate anime from chapter one with awesome animation even if the beginning sucked. But I feel that day will never come.

I still try to hopeful on it. Remember the special news that Akamatsu mentioned awhile ago should be announced in May…Although I'm rather worried about Shaft (the studio who did the 2nd series, the Spring/Summer OVAs, and the Ala Alba and Another World OADs). They seem very understaffed and I worry that if they do in fact make a Negima anime, that they won't be able to handle it and end up ceasing production since it would be a long running series.

Don't wanna step on your toes TLS, but the site where I get the raws just released the chapter… I trust you'll keep an eye on mangafox for the ad-less site...
-
Gah, it's out and I can't see it till much later!!!>< Just go to usual places people (mangafox, mangareader, unix). It's all there.
@Shuuhan Dude nothing's more important than Negima, nothing. Don't hold back on my expense. Share the Negima love:)

! This chapter…was kinda meh overall.
! But I don't care, the rest of the class are back in the picture!!! It was SUCH a breath of fresh air to see them pop out of nowhere like that. Finally a chance for the final class-mates to begin growing as characters just like the rest. This chapter was the perfect set-up for them to become thrown into the world of magic. I literally had a fit when Ayaka called Evangeline by her nickname!!! THIS IS SO AWESOME!!! Also Eva and Zazie's chemistry was so delicious :)
! Best part of the chapter
-
Chapter been out for a while for anyone interested.
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/mahou_sensei_negima/v35/c322/1.html
Pretty meh chapter. Nothing really happened which is a shame given how Akamtsu is usually so good at pacing. Seeing super minor characters in action and Ayaka wearing her outfit again was fun.
-
I fucking love that pompadour guy, he always makes my day.

Hey guys on Sunday I read the Negi vs Rakan fight.
AND IT WAS GLORIOUS!
It really is one of the best fights in manga, I would be hard pressed to think of fights that were better. If nothing else they don't come much better than Negi vs Rakan. It was so good I didn't really mind going to school the next day.
May I ask is it the best fight in the series? I believe it is, but are there any that come close? -
I read this chapter and gotta agree with TLS… it was a meh chap. The fact that this scene has happened before just bored me... What interested me is what Evangeline meant about the world tree. It got me thinking, Ku_nel(lol) is bound to that spot,s o something big must be there for a big player like him to be bound to it.... I dunno...
@Kareem:
May I ask is it the best fight in the series? I believe it is, but are there any that come close?
I dunno, the fight going on now is starting to rival it… be patient, the best is yet to come!
-
Fate vs Negi is starting to look as good (but then it is a fight settling a 300 chapter rivalry).

It's probably one of the best shonen fights I've ever read.
-
I'm a bit dissapointed in this "oh yeah, we're throwing ANOTHER fake alien hunt" gimmick, cause it… well, its a retread. And even though its been a large number of chapters, its a retread of THE PREVIOUS ARC. The school festival feels forever ago now (the other world has now been about half the series) but still... the climax of the previous arc.
I wouldn't mind if this was retreaded some for the finale of the series, but here? Eh. Though I guess maybe in the finale everyone will know its real or something.
-
I don't mind the retread for two reasons. One, it makes sense that demons and other dark forces would spill over to the other world and that Mahora academy would defend itself. Two, Akamatsu didn't make it into a whole omg super secret defense plan like last time. Though it was quite dragged out, the execution of it itself was quite nonchalant (Ayaka's outfit change was only shown in one panel among everything else). As to why they didn't come up with some other story other than aliens again well it's because people would get into the action more quickly if they were already familiar with the plot setting.
Again, what mostly bugged me this chapter is NOTHING really happened…

May I ask is it the best fight in the series? I believe it is, but are there any that come close?Negi vs Rakan is what happens when you take out everything lame or mediocre about shonen leaving only the good things and cramming it all into one fight. Pure distilled awesome shonen. Absolutely flawless and especially incredible given how out of nowhere the fight came from. Pure brilliance.
No fucking way.
It's probably one of the best shonen fights I've ever read.

Ok well I just made it in the magic world, currently Negima just met with Rakan an was attacked by an assassin.
-
Chapter's out guys
Now that's a chapter.
Awesome sweet characterization all around. I love how the development EVERYONE seems important in this series. What's more to say? I cried manly tears. And woo, never thought Haruna would be the one to explain everything to Ayaka but since Asuna isn't around…
Oh btw guys, no new Negima chapter for three weeks :(
-
Nice chapter… I have to say, I kinda felt Haruna's relief at finally making it back home, partly because I had just opened the window, and the smell of rain reminded me of home.

[QUOTE=Thousand Lion-san;2200923}
Oh btw guys, no new Negima chapter for three weeks :(
I would be upset, but I was planning on finishing Negima so I could keep up with it weekly, because Negima feels like the type of manga that would be a ton of fun to read weekly, just like One Piece and I'd say I'm close to getting up to date. Still, three weeks sounds like a little much since I'd planned to make Negima the only manga I'd read until I finally finished it. Guess I'll also be reading Hunter x Hunter. -
Blame the movie that's coming out which Akamatsu needs to take time to supervise :/ (I'm not too hot on it myself because I want a proper anime from beginning to end and a movie will probably blast through all the tiny details and footnotes and easter eggs that make the manga so special).
But man was this chapter good. It's times like these where Negima's uniqueness brought on by it's highly unusual development into a shonen shines out. What OTHER shonen manga can you name which, in the middle of an intense battle and all the craziness of the climax, takes the time to so fully expose the seemingly irrelevant (in the grand scheme of things) emotions of a side-character out of the blue like that. So beautiful and so human. Haruna is like the crazy, eccentric otaku who is seemingly unfazed by anything yet, just this once, we saw her more emotional side showing that deep down she's a girl with feelings too. And if there were ever a more fitting way to bring that side out. Fantastic. And if that wasn't enough, we got some awesome Chachamaru/Hakase development (which I long predicted would happen but was still emotionally moved). The pacing of the chapter was laughing at last week's. We got some more Fate vs Negi with clear indications that Fate is becoming obsessed and crazy, we got some nice aerial action, we got great character development for two of the side-characters and now the rest of the class 3-A students might finally find out the whole truth!!! Awesome, awesome chapter all round.

So BBL you're up to date with Negima. May I ask where you would put it on your manga tier list. I know that you had 5 S Rank manga which were One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Toriko and Eyeshield 21. I like all those manga (except Eyeshield 21 I only read 10 or so chapters although I plan to read more) and I think that's a good top 5. I would have to say Negima definitely should be S Rank along with those others. I like Soul Eater and Toriko a lot but I'd have to say Negima is better than both of them. So anyway is Negima S Rank to you?

I feel this is the best for now. Even if SHAFT did make a series, the possibility of them not being able to handle it and the whole project falling apart since it would be longrunning is something I can see happening…They're understaffed and working on other projects apart from the Negima movie. Maybe it would be doable if they did seasons?
Ken is supposed to give a surprise Negima announcement in May, so I'm wondering if it has to do with the future of Negima animation.

I guess…
Still on the bright side, Negi vs Rakan with movie animation will be glorious.

I doubt we'll even be getting that fight in the movie since it's meant to cover the end of this arc, but maybe we'll get to catch a glimpse of it, like how we saw a glimpse of Negi vs. Chao at the beginning of Ala Alba Episode 1.

Well, I really like Negima. But I don't think it would go into my S rank.
One Piece has everything. FMA has an excellent story and great themes. Soul Eater has cool characters and good fights. Toriko is manly manliness, it just makes me happy and pumped every time I read it. Eyeshield 21 has great characters, amazing art, and I love a good football underdog story.
And Negima is great, but it doesn't have the "cool" characters and the harem bits are annoying, but tolerable. It goes solidly into A tier for me.

I'm not done with Negima (I'm about 38 chapters away from being up to date bear with me) but I would say that I like it more than Soul Eater and Toriko. Don't get me wrong I think those are very good manga, but I'd say Negima beats Toriko in characters and beats Soul Eater in fights (I also like Akamatsu's characterization a bit more than Okubo's though his is good to). Soul Eater has some flaws too though, Justin being evil kind of came out of nowhere, and the Salvage arc kind of dragged. I'm sure I could think of more flaws if I was given time. I do agree the harem aspects of Negima are annoying but I can look past it because everything else is so epic. To each their own, I'd say Negima is S Rank and Soul Eater and Toriko are A Rank but whatever.
As for Eyeshield 21, I plan to read more of that but there's a few other series I'm trying to read first. I usually don't care for sports manga but Eyeshield 21 is the exception. I don't know if it'll be S Rank but I'm still giving it a chance.
Edit: All done now, totally S-Rank for me.

after a long wait, spoilers are out…
-
I've now read the first 30 chapters of this. I utterly hated the first 15 - the latter 15 were readable. I hope the rumors that it picks up quite a bit around chapter 40 are true (can anyone verify)?
I still don't care for the art style much (seriously it's like the artist can only draw 6 different facial expressions) but the level of detail in the backdrops and most of the spreads is downright astounding for a weekly series (I assume the artist uses the aid of computers - the art has that vibe…sort of like FMA). The humor is growing on me a little but I still roll my eyes at least once every chapter.
I've read accounts of people feeling that every One Piece chapter is just packed with lots of panels and lots of dialog (and apparently these lazy asses find this tiring shrugs). In this respect One Piece has nothing on Negima. I may have some complaints but at the very least I can tell the mangaka is an extremely hard working and caring individual and that's more then I can say for some other popular mangaka.

Trust me, it picks up. It picked up for me, it'll probably pick up for you. I've found that you and I have pretty similar opinions. Akamatsu always wanted it to be a battle manga, and he's really good at it, but his editor wanted him to do another harem series, so that's what it was for a while. But once you get to the Negi vs Kotaro fight, it finds it's footing as an action series, and then it just keeps getting better and better. Recent chapters fill me with a complete rush of excitement, now that they're engaging with an intense fight against a major villain. I'd say if you aren't impressed by the end of the Kyoto arc, then keep with it until the Mahora Festival arc ends. If you aren't hooked by then, well I can't force you to keep reading (even though the Magical World arc is better). But I think by that point, you will be really fond of this series. Probably before that.
My only regret about Negima is not having read it earlier. I planned to read it 4 years ago (I would imagine at that point Mahora Festival arc had just ended, and they might have just started Magical World arc) it feels like it would be so much fun to read this series weekly for a long period of time.
-

Yes, the first dozen or so chapters are pretty terrible, and the eva arc is the first hint of what it really has to offer. There's nothing specific about chapter 40, but at about that point its past the early harem manga setup and finds its footing better as more of a shonen battle series. That's about when it shows its true colors, and it just keeps getting better and better from there. Around when Kotaru shows up. Not because of Kotaru, but because that's when it switches to a battle manga, and the harem thing becomes secondary. (its still present, but much less of a focus.)
-

This is really one of my favorite parts about the series. There's SO MUCH stuff crammed in yet it all melds together and works somehow. Even One Piece didn't get so crammy till much later. Every page you have a ton of stuff going on, every character of the very large main cast interacting and doing their thing so even though they're not being focused on, they're still there, still important, still alive. Oodles and oodles and oodles of tiny little sentences on the side (which I really, really love) that, though tiny and seemingly insignificant, go along way into building up the world, the characterization, the atmosphere, the overall energy and how alive and vibrant everything seems. Just take any page of a crowd spread having fun from the school festival arc. So many activities going on at once, it's nuts.
Oh and about whether it picks up, it's a fact not a rumour. If you still don't like it then, it probably wasn't your thing. But seeing as you found the Eva arc mildly enjoyable, you're off to a good start. If that arc could make you go mm kay, not bad then you should be just fine for the Kyoto arc.

That's actually the main reason I wish I started reading Negima earlier, I love when every week I have just one chapter to read, but it's a chapter with a significant amount of content, and Negima is one of those series. It's just for so long, the only weekly series I kept up with were One Piece, Naruto and Bleach and only one of those series was putting out good chapters (althogh I was reading FMA monthly and that was a good series). That's why I wish I was reading Negima earlier.
And yeah Evangeline is when it starts to get better and it only ups itself from there.
-
When do the actual fights start?
-
Theres a little bit in Kyoto
probably the school festival martial arts tournament is the first real fighting (chapter 100ish? i can't remember it's been a while)
-
Hot damn.
[space filler] -
The first fight was Negi vs Eva around chapter 20 which wasn't so much of a fight as an energy spamming contest. The first real, real fight is Negi vs Koutarou around chapter 40ish which was pretty awesome. We get a martial arts tournament around chapter 100 which was really, really awesome (and the match-ups were totally randomly chosen by the author too).
-
So the movie's getting released on August 27. Hopefully Akamatsu will reveal that surprise he talked about before soon, since this is the month he's supposed to do it.

Yeah, people always go on and on about how awesome Negi vs Rakan is (and it is indeed very awesome) but Negi vs Chao was really cool to. As was Negi vs Takamichi. And a ton of other fights, let's not kid ourselves.
