I about 90 chapters get published in 2 years so it wasn't that complicated :P

So in what plot not contriving way are they going to end the series ?
And if it's another of those "maybe someday !" then bullshit, seeing it happen is what the readers read your damn series for you stupid fucks !
Oh btw Jump, you have TWELVE series over 100 chapters long. So once you wind up with a bunch of new series that will have no following whatsoever, blame no one but your fucking selves.
I mean seriously, are there any series from 2009/2010 stil running ?
They need to make 2 seperate magazines, one for their heavy hitters than never fall below the yellow line. An one for new comers. Have the one for newcomers be tested an once it hits the 200 chapter mark than it can go into the other magazine with no fear of ever being cut out.
-
Nurarihyon no Mago is in Danger??????
I am afraid, I love Nura!Bleach should be at the bottom not Nura =/

so, a magazine for proven, strong manga, and another full of possibilities that might just be shit? Yeah, that'd sell well.
I think the system works mostly fine, but I wish they'd have people rank like their top 10 instead of their top 3. Because if there's a manga that everyone likes 4th best, it should stay, but under the current polling system it wouldn't ever get any votes.
-
They mix in the new ones with the hits because it'll have more exposure. No one would buy a mag with just new manga while their favs are in another, but If its like this they're forces to buy it along with their fav…
-
How the fuck they can expect anything to even catch on when they've axed like 90% of all new series from the past two years !

Nurarihyon no Mago 150 2008We have a total of 4 series that began within the span of the years of 2009/2010.
We have 12 series that started earlier.
Also it can't be healthy for business to introduce a series like "Here's this awesome new series with this intriguing plot you all want to see to the en- what, low ratings, Prematurely Canceled Forever ! Now, Here's this new awesome new series with this intriguing plot you all want to see to the en-"
I mean, how many of those four series are even going to put out a year's serialisation worth of chapters ?
Also isn't it just nice how these mangaka come up with this series, and with an entiere plot that they want to see realised, only for them having to create a random bs ending telling the people that enjoyed reading the series that none of the series' plot lines will ever be resolved, while Togashi doesn't hand in anything for over 30 weeks of serialisation each year and somehow his series stil doesn't get cancelled.
-
While it is the editors at JUMP who ultimately decide what gets canceled and what doesn't, JUMP's entire premise is that they feature interesting stories that young men want to read, because the readers vote on what they like.
If people aren't voting for the cancelled series over other series, they don't appeal to the readers of JUMP. And there's literally nothing to be done for it.
Sucks, but… what?
Honestly, it's not like every shonen magazine does what JUMP does, with the weekly questionnaires. There are other magazines one can be serialized in; the issue is that JUMP is one of the most popular and it has that huge pedigree [in large part] because of this system of trial by fire that has mostly worked for them for a very long time. So say you can't give the new series a separate magazine of completely untested new authors [because no one would buy them]. Tossing that idea out of the door, what would you do, facing this situation?
-
For one, I wouldn't put out a third sucessive soccer manga right after two previous ones bombed.

How about an actual answer for two and three? :P
We don't know at all what the editorial process is like for JUMP. It could be those second and third soccer manga had different editors who thought they could go about it differently to make it successful. But rather it being that soccer isn't interesting, isn't the issue that the manga just weren't interesting enough for JUMP's readers? I mean, in the hands of its author, Eyeshield 21 could have been about rugby and it still would've been a runaway hit.

JUMP's editor-in-chief made a Twitter account, lol. And he writes only in English.
-
Kinda funny to open it up and see all those One Piece quotes at the top of the page.

Yeah, haha. It's odd he uses Zolo too? :o
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'll so make a twitter account for this. XD

So he's a fanboy ? Because having an english only blog with manga quotes seems prety nerdy to me. :P
-
Well, I'd certainly hope he'd be enthusiastic about his work. I just wasn't expecting to see a whole block of One Piece quotes after he was talking about that dumpling place.
I do find it funny that his icon is his Bakuman persona.

Early 2000 is worse than late 2000. You are making a fuss over nothing. It sucks to have your series canceled and see naruto and bleach survive, maybe is the system, but it isn't stacked against newer series.
If it weren't for Naruto and Bleach I'd say that the older series should get out of the pools. Maybe a vote for the bottom 5 with the top 3..
Over half of the series are older than 5 years.

Exactly. And the reason there aren't any series around from early 2000's isn't because they didn't get picked up, it's because they already ended. Black cat, Jaguar, Bo-bobo, Mr. Fullswing, Ichigo 100%, Eyeshield 21, Buso Renkin, Death Note… Jump has been pretty good about picking up great new series and then letting them stand along side their older ones.
I wouldn't say that Jump refuses to run new series in favor of their old worn out horses, because ruto and One Piece, Naruto, Kochikame and Bleach are oddities in their long run time. Rokudenashi Blues, JoJo, Dragon Ball, and arguably HxH are the only other series I know of that ran in Jump for 10 years or more.

Hate to burst your bubble but Buso Renkin got cancelled an had a rushed ending.

seems like his focus is to further promote Jump in US states, that's maybe why he use english. I also noticed that he is following Funimation, Crunchyroll, hulu, and Viz

checks 80 chapters, huh? I just looked on wikipedia and saw it lasted from 2003 - 2005. I don't know shit about it.
Still doesn't change the fact that Jump HAS picked up and ran good new series in the early 2000's, and then let them continue. The loss of OD is regrettable, but Jump doesn't have a systematic habit of killing good series for no reason. In general, I think Jump does a good job with its roster.

Seems like Sasaki posted a pic with the chapters of the next issue (20-21) or even the one after that :argh
Sasaki you fucking tease. Although, except for the a little bit of Bakuman we can't see anything lol.
-
It would be great if he showed a little more.
-
I don't know about you guys, but DELICIOUS SANDWICH certainly cracked me up.
-
I wish I could be more like him, being able to read the chapters two weeks in advance…
-
I wonder if he sits in tea shops listening to readers gossip about what they would like to happen thinking to himself "if only you knew, hehehe"
-
He probably does.
And also:
No time to go out to eat, so biting sandwich at my desk.Delicious.
-
Now that's one sandwich I could go for. It's name tells me so.

wow his English is good and he has a sense of humor… expected him to be more dickish.

So that's how the chapters are delivered to the management ?
Also Gep, he'd get fired if he did.

Fuck.

Is it for the Golden Week break?
LOL, Ichigo got bumped to the second row by Toriko.
And its funny they're all happy. Gintoki is the only one surprised. Or maybe he's just teasing.
-
-
Yes, it's Golden Week next week. So no chapters until the 4th of May.
-
You mean after the one we are suposed to get around now right ?
-
I never get tired of Bossun's faces.
-
Holy shit Gintoki. that is brilliant.
Not as brilliant as bleach being pushed to second row by Toriko. Now that is awesome.

Weekly Shonen Jump #20-21 cover.
THIS!!!! that just made my day, Fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
-
It just means we will have only one regular sized Jump to last us two weeks.
-
yeah, break week, whatever. :(
But seeing Toriko placed alongside One Piece and Naruto instead of Bleach… beautiful...

I want to share this information but I don't follow this thread regularly, so my apology if this is old news:
WSJ 2011 weekly popularity rating average up to March. 18th:
(How it works: The smaller the better, 1-5 = 1st Tier; 5-10 = 2nd Tier; 10-15 = 3rd Tier; 15+ = risk of getting cut)
(my own take in parenthesis)1。ONE PIECE *1.87 (Should be its own tier)
2。NARUTO *2.81 (Will likely be 2nd till its end, might even gather enough popularity during its finale and overthrow OP yet again on its way to 7 consecutive year of NO.1 rank)
3。TORIKO *4.56 (current leader in the competition of next generation)
4。Gintama *5.44 (Perpetually the 1st of 2nd tier. The "mediocrity" actually kinda fits the mood of the manga)
5。BLEACH *6.73 (HAHAHAHAHA)
6。Bakuman。 *7.19
7。SKET DANCE *8.69 (Seems to be another one heavily promoted by JUMP to be the next generation)
8。Beelzebub *9.13 (Will compete with Toriko for that 3rd place)
9。Enigma *9.75
10。REBORN 12.06
11。Inumarudashi 13.00
12。Kochikame 14.13 (Exception to the ranking rule, this one ain't going anywhere till the author dies)
13。Kuroko no Basuke 14.69
14。Medaka BOX 14.94 (Booby manga, should long be cut)
15。Nurarihyon no Mago 16.56 (Personally surprised, didn't it just get an anime 2 seasons ago?)
16。Omagadoki Dobutsuen 17.69
17。Hokenshitsu no Shinigami 17.75 (A shame, personally enjoyed it)Jokes and despise aside, while I do believe Toriko and Beelzebub are WSJ's "Supernovas", it will still take some time to completely dethrone Bleach from 3rd. When it comes to other stats like sales and exposure, the newcomers still have a lot of catch up to do.
-
Wasn't the Gintama x Skeet Dance published last week?
-
Yeah I got surprised when I saw this on twitter, totally enjoyed it, awesome cover.
By the way, thanks for the info archanfel. I'm happy about Bakuman holding his spot but I don't believe it will ever go farther than 4th, it'd be cool to stay like it to match with PCP too. -
