@JERK:
It's insanely depressing that this is what Horror has degraded to. You literally act like horror is some special kid in the movie class that is all about blood and gross outs.
You're not really a Horror fan so much as a slasher one. And for the love of fuck, acknowledge the difference here.
For the record, let it show that I hate movies that are overly gory, and express the gore through torture….
This is what Hollywood Horror has degraded to. Not just horror in general.
Hollywood has been captivated by the ideal of having a jump scare every few minutes, to have terribly fast pacing instead of letting the terror build.
So many independent directors still get it right. Paranormal Activity is a great example. Foreign horror markets also have a better grasp of what makes good horror, but many of those are deteriorating as well.
The great thing about horror, however, is that it is the widest reaching genre. It can be almost anything. You have your slashers, gorror, psychological horror, "torture porn" (which I absolutely despise btw", gross out, horror comedy, etc. Horror is so wide reaching that you cannot evaluate it all on the same criteria.
So no, I do not "literally act like horror is some special kid in the movie class that is all about blood and gross outs."
All I've talked about, as it applies to THC, is gross out horror, which is completely different from say psychological (Black Swan, Silence of the Lambs, etc.)
And your assumption that I don't know the differences between the horror genre is laughable, as nothing in my post should give you that idea.
If you like I could list of specifics of each horror sub-genre (there's about 25 of 'em), and classify some movies for ya.
In other news, I sort of expected ending up in an argument like this. Happens literally every time I tell someone I like The Human Centipede, and they're all practically identical.
But you know what matters at the end of the day, the 5 awards the director got for the movie, including 4 best picture awards, one of which came from Screamfest.
Is he gonna care what the average person thinks about a movie that was borne of a joke, or is he gonna think about the awards he got thanks to said joke?

So what exactly is the difference between The Human Centipede and "Hollywood Horror" because I don't see a damn thing.
I don't whatsoever in any sense understand this…sub-culture of people who worship these kind of movies as being some distinct thing worthy of respect, ESPECIALLY if they stick their nose up at stuff like Saw for being simplistic exploitation.
ALL of this shit is simplistic exploitation.
Just fucking admit it, that this is what you like. I'll never understand obsessing over it but whatever, just don't fucking pretend it's some noble genre of rules and form, when it's just brainless exploitation cinema.
If you like I could list of specifics of each horror sub-genre (there's about 25 of 'em), and classify some movies for ya.
Oh no no no, no there is not "25" of them. This is not some objective thing, genres. ESPECIALLY sub-genres.
And frankly I don't want to hear an obsessive rant about inane stupid overly detailed fanmade genres.
But you know what matters at the end of the day, the 5 awards the director got for the movie, including 4 best picture awards, one of which came from Screamfest.
Awards at a thing called "Screamfest" don't matter at the end of any day.
Is he gonna care what the average person thinks about a movie that was borne of a joke, or is he gonna think about the awards he got thanks to said joke?
What's the joke exactly.
If you ever find yourself making an argument going "well see there's shitty and there's lazy" stop immediately and rethink your life.
@JERK:
So what exactly is the difference between The Human Centipede and "Hollywood Horror" because I don't see a damn thing.
Was this film a jump scare every few minutes? No. Was it fast paced or did it build? It built. Those are the two key differences between Hollywood and pretty much anything else. Hollywood doesn't create horror through atmosphere, they do it through jump scares.
I don't worship this movie. I said I liked it, nothing else. You're making a baseless assumption that I worship it.
And I don't like Saw for the same reason I hate Hostel. I can't do torture. That's the one thing I can't tolerate when it comes to horror.
And no, this really isn't torture because the guy didn't want them dead. e just wanted some weird pet. He wasn't causing them pain just to cause them pain.
Just fucking admit it, that this is what you like. I'll never understand obsessing over it but whatever, just don't fucking pretend it's some noble genre of rules and form, when it's just brainless exploitation cinema.
No, truthfully I love slashers. They're easily the most fun, and have provided for some of the biggest stereotyped characters in film.
I also love horror films that build to an end. Ringu is one of my favorites. You don't see how the girl dies in the beginning, so there's all this suspense over what happened the whole movie, And then at the very end, you find out, and that scene is so well done, and the build up is so great.
A movie I love, that a lot of people hate on is The Blair Witch Project. People don't like it because it was boring and nothing happened till the end. I love it because it was all atmosphere. You got some background in the beginning, but once they ended up in the woods, that was it. They were lost and so were you. No idea what was going on, where you were. It came across so well. Little things here and there helped build the suspense. The stick figures, them realizing they were going in circles. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, constantly sure something was going to happen. And then the ending was fantastic with him standing in the corner like in the stories. The ending just happened. There was no falling action nothing. Just climax then the black screen. Fantastic.
That's the kind of horror movie I love. The more terrifying it can be along with the less blood and gore, the better. Which oddly is why Scream is my favorite slasher movie. Minimal blood (throughout the entire series) and it's really fun. Yes, it's not all that scary, but most slashers aren't.
So that's what I like. Generally, THC wouldn't be my kind of film, but it was unique, and it got the reaction it wanted perfectly.
Oh no no no, no there is not "25" of them. This is not some objective thing, genres. ESPECIALLY sub-genres.
And frankly I don't want to hear an obsessive rant about inane stupid overly detailed fanmade genres.
Would you say the same for music? Cause if I remember right from some of your threads, you get pretty specific about your sub genres, no? Same applies here.
You're gonna specify the differences between ska and metal.
You're gonna to do the same for Psychological and Paranormal. They're not the same. They have different characteristics that make grouping them as the same nonsensical.
And as for them being fanmade, they're as fanmade as the crap ton of rock sub genres.
Awards at a thing called "Screamfest" don't matter at the end of any day.
They do to dedicated horror fans and anyone in the business. Winning best picture at Screamfest is the highest honor an independent horror film can win.
It's like saying winning best picture at Sundance doesn't matter, or winning an Oscar doesn't matter.
What's the joke exactly.
The director and one of his buddies were screwing around and joked about punishing child molesters by stitching their mouths to the anus of a fat truck driver. From there it sort of became a bet to see if he could actually get it made. Neither one of them thought they could get it picked up especially since he had to be very vague about the plot when pitching it.
So I'd say he's more than happy with the awards and could care less about what the public thinks.
@JERK:
If you ever find yourself making an argument going "well see there's shitty and there's lazy" stop immediately and rethink your life.
See now, I could unfortunately make that argument for pretty much every genre in every form of media. It's a sad truth that the average output is either shitty or lazy.
And yes, you know that there is a difference between the two.
It's like saying a band wrote a shitty song as opposed to they were lazy and just wrote Generic Song A.
New review by Todd is up. This time he reviews Grenade by Bruno Mars.
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/tis/tpsr/30353-grenade-ep-19
I totally share his sympathies regarding Alanis Morisette's "You Oughtta Know."
Watched it. Very much agree with him, and the ending to the clip was just perfect.
Also, Roses made a top 10 music videos:
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/pushinguproses/vinyl-destination/30344-i-want-my-mtv
Cameo with Todd, where he confesses his favorite song of all time, one of his favorite videos of all time, and #7 of Roses' list (which is all of the same song).
I knew Todd's favorite song before this video, so when #8 came on, I was halfway expecting Todd to mention the song (namely since #7 is far more superior).
Also, if Roses reaches 2000 followers on Twitter, she's agreed to do a live UStream, much like Paw did this Saturday. She also wants to break his record (he had a 6 hour stream with fans and other producers).

There are worse things…
Hell yes
When I first learned of the NC and what he did, my first thought was "If I had one choice for a review, it'd be this". Despite being 12 at the time, it's the first movie I've ever seen where I realized that so what if it was for kids, this is still utter horshshit. If your movie calls for toddler main characters voiced by children it deserves to be put down instantly, but if the plot just consists of said characters constantly outwitting adults the writer needs to get his fingers broken.
Damn, I need something else to look forward to now. I can only hope Doug knows of the existence of Freddie the Frog. And theres always Heavens Gate…
Hoo boy. Baby Geniuses. This oughta be good.
Of course this naturally means we'll eventually see a review of the sequel.

what. no one wants to post the new nostalgia chick "disaster movies or roland emmerich part 2. Ok, I will then. I liked it. She does a good job of seperating their little skit with the review, so it doesn't get in the way, and i think it's kinda funny seeing how all these characters are reacting to Nella's terror.
I saw them. And wow, Elisa and her characters are killing me. "NELLA! Your make-up is so expertly applied!"
I haven't watched the baby geniuses yet, but did anyone notice the Bison stuffed toy in the title screen?
killing you in a good way, or a bad way?
Okay.
That was funny.
Stil, I would love to see a joke reference to the sequel, even though Mike J already reviewed it.
@The:

Daz I saw the uncut version on youtube a while back.
Do you remember the KKK members and that female agent flashing her boobs to Freddie when they meet ?
…No, that I do not.
I remember him dancing with Nessies at the bottom of the sea, and transforming from a regular frog in medieval times to a human sized anthropomorphic Frog in the 20th century between scenes. And the evil aunt suddenly being a snake for no explained reason. Yes, even as a kid I sought out plotholes. Maybe I have OCD or something.
The uncut version sounds like its veering into "So bad its slightly entertaining" category, so maybe I should check that out for nostalgias sake.

Oh remember him just growng up to a human sized frog and they then cut to him getting a call on a frog phone and I was like
NO, you CANNOT just cut to that. He's a gigantic frog with psychic powers. You CANNOT just skip over his venturing into modern society.
Oh and how did he grow to be several hundred years old ?
And why does El Supremo want to make a snake the ruler of the world ? And how does stealing national monuments make people fall asleep ?
Yeah I saw that like two months ago on youtube.
Doug needs to tackle the Star Wars prequels, I know Red letter media did it but I want to see his take on it.
that would be interesting to see. I don't see what people find so wrong about them. I can understand jar jar binks being annoying, but the movies arn't that bad to me. Sometimes I wonder if it's cause I didn't watch any starwars movies till I was 20.

I feel the exact same way. I didnt love em, didnt hate em. Some of the lightsaber duels still get a rise out of me today but I see nothing offensive in them, having seen all the star wars movies starting at around age 10 and only being 19.

The distressed watcher is just terrible. Thanks though for looking that up for us.
I don't see what people find so wrong about them.
Terrible dialouge.
Awful romance.
Bad camera work.
couch, walk, couch again, sitting.
Lack of memorable characters-No Han Solo.
Too much Cgi.
Ruined Darth Vader.
Boring characters-Mace Windu for example.
acting lacks soul and life.
Midi-chlorians.
Characters explain the plot in a couch.
-No excitement
-Feels boring
Why ? His reviews are done competently enough. He doesn't stand out, but he does get his point across.
Also he made me aware of that horrible Aeon Flux movie I will never have to see now, given how I'm sort of a casual fan of the original show (would have been a bigger fan had I seen it more often).

He's too unrefined. It seems like he does all his reviews in a single take and we have to hear him go "uhhh" "ohhh" "ahhh" a billion times and repeat the same things over and over. I am not exagerrating when i say i could do better. I also dislike that he's SO harsh and uses the most demeaning terms and exclamations for everything he dislikes. OBVIOUSLY he's not the only one who goes over tht top but if you look at linkara and the critic and people like CR and Film Brain they mostly make jokes and only go "OH MY GOD THIS WAS SO TERRIBLE THIS PERSON I THE DEVIL FOR SHOOTING THIS SCENE LIKE THIS." for the REALLY bad stuff and it's inbetween other well written or opinion based jokes. I actually want to like the DW since he reviews some stuff i've seen but i just cant sit through his stuff for the reasons i've mentioned.
@ BILL
Terrible dialouge.-Nothing especially terrible
Awful romance.- Fair enough but i didnt care
Bad camera work.- Example please?
couch, walk, couch again, sitting.- I guess????
Lack of memorable characters-No Han Solo.- Wrong
Too much Cgi.- As opposed to?
Ruined Darth Vader.- As a stotic badass with no history or depth other than "I have you now?" Yes, but i believe that was the point.
Boring characters-Mace Windu for example. - Fair enough
acting lacks soul and life.- A lot of that I believe is done on purpose, i could be wrong. Much like how in opera's every move is huge, i thought everything was supposed to eb sutle here. (Except jar jhar)
Midi-chlorians.- Explain.
Characters explain the plot in a couch.- Ok i guess?
-No excitement- :wassat:
-Feels boring- Shut the fuck up. Links several dozens scenes that prove you wrong
Lobster, why he's not a favourite, he's not bad. I mean he's better then 70 % of youtube's reviewers.

Good way. She's pretty funny, and has a lot of energy. I can't believe how much Doctor Tease, as a character, as actually become important. Glad she didn't die.

I wrote a reply to this terrible reply, but then I realized who are and then decided it would be pointless.
I thought people didn't have problems with cu before.
I just started watching this. Why does MG list Naruto and Bleach as typical Shonen examples I will never know.
"CU" you talking about me? I don't get it?
I'm gonna agree with yonkou. bill listed a bunch of reasons, but i'd like explanations behind them, or to be shown. that's why I wanna see a review.
how long ARE those distressed watcher clips? I'm not sitting here for 3 hours of "umm's" as someone said.
