@JERK:
You mean like the electro influences that have been around as of 2008?
I mean, fine if you don't like it…
But you do know that Electro and hip-hop used to be DEEPLY related when they were both wee babies in the early 80's right?
Afrika Bambaataa (one of the three most important forefathers of the genre) was basically an Electro-Hop artist when he was actually making records.
It's an ancient hip-hop artform that got pushed aside and crushed mostly by the rise of Run DMC, and then got killed on the west coast by the rise of NWA.

Well, yes, but it's far from what's actually popular… Like those Kid Cudi, Akon, and Rihanna things.
@JERK:
Well….I mean, it's shit music mostly this party rap. But again, hip-hop did start as party music.
Party music isn't always shitty. Funk was party music, like Hip Hop at the beginning. But wasn't it more like a ray of hope and rejoicement for black people in America ? I find it honorable. And damn, Funk is purely awesome !
@JERK:
It's evolution has been just like Rock's in a lot of ways.
Started out as a silly light form of music, then there came a point where the genre exploded into maturity, variety, and endless possibility (late 60's for Rock, and late 80's for Rap).
I have no problem with how it began, but more with what it became. I know there still is good music, but I'm sick of what I hear on the TV most of the time. Not that I really listen to it, though…
@JERK:
It's a shame that most mainstream rap has gotta be that way, but as long as the genre produces lots of goods for the devoted I'll be fine. And there is lots of goods. 2010 was a pretty sweet year actually.
Could you post some examples of things that you liked from 2010, please ?
I admit that I didn't really search for good late rap… ^^
@JERK:
This is simply untrue. Hip-hop may not be as vibrant a scene as it was from 88-96, but it's been surviving at the same pace since 97'. It's been over a decade of things being as they are and there's been still so much really good music around.
I don't know why it matters what dominates the radio and music channels. Who cares what they're doing.
Don't you find that it would be good the radio was dominated with "better" things ? Somehow, mainstream things are imposed to us because of the media. It's not such a big deal, but I can't say I like it.
@JERK:
Also Hip-Hop has always been a hybrid genre by the nature of it having such a minimal basis, it adhers itself to all sorts of sounds.
-First it was Disco (Disco! You think modern Electro is bad? Disco!).
-Then it was the original Electro wave.
-Then things were super minimal with a bit of Rock thrown in
-Then it was increasingly involved with Jazz and Funk
-And since then it's been whatever individual artists have wanted to do.
There's been actually some incredible Electro based hip-hop recently, some of the best. Mostly from the current Detroit scene.
Yeah, sure, hybrid doesn't necessarily mean bad, maybe it's just that I don't like the way it's mixed today… (in general, because there are still good things)
@JERK:
What you probably think of as classic Hip-Hop (De La Soul, Wu Tang, Public Enemy) was all an abberation of what the original sound of the genre was.
Hip-Hop has never been a purist genre. It's always by nature been about hybrid and crossbreeding.
I have to admit it, but now it's kinda a hybridation (does this word exist in english ?) of hybrids… I don't think if what we usually call Hip Hop now can actually be called Hip Hop... It's just a potpourri of "dance music".
