Onigumo has gotten a lot of attention indeed. His leaning toward Absolute Justice was emphasized at Enies Lobby, and he was the one in charge of Ace's escort from Impel Down, a rather prestigious mission to be sure. He also was the one that snuck up on and cuffed Marco in the war. It seems to me as if Oda has something in store for him considering these things.

Yeah, he steals the show. But I really want to see the other VAs in action too. Especially Strawberry… I mean, his name is Strawberry, he should be dangerous. But I wouldn't mind a little more Doberman or Yamakaji. Or the giants...
Oh well, I can still dream...
I really want to know who's the new Admiral. I'm curious. -
Strawberry is one of my favorites too. Not that he's done much, but he looks awesome. And yeah, I'm also really curious about the new Admiral. I've seen theories about Magellan, which I guess isn't entirely implausible, but I hope that it's one of the VAs. They all have cool designs and by the looks of it are battle-hardened Marine veterans, as an Admiral ought to be.

His hat is awesome. How does he go through doors with that on his head?
I doubt Magellan can be an Admiral. He isn't a marine, is he?
Talking about veterans, do you remember Horn mask? (or Horny as many of us call him) He seems too young compared to the others. -
Magellan isn't a Marine, true, but some people think that he'll take the spot anyway because 1) he's got the height, 2) he's got a "haxxed" Devil Fruit power and 3) none of the Vice Admirals seemed strong enough. Sentoumaru did apparently jump to a reasonably prestigious position among the Marines in two years from being employed directly under the WG, so Magellan could maybe do the same.
Not sure about the horn mask thing. But I do recall one of them looking oddly young… Lacroix, I think?

Nope, Lacroix is the giant that looks oddly normal, especially compared to the other giants (like Catman or Hippo)
!
The guy behind Strawberry.True, the VAs haven't show anything great, but they must be strong, they are just below the admirals. Maybe there are some of them who is just a VA because of his brain, but there got to be some fighters.
I love how Strawberry showed us his cool sabers just to hide them for the rest of the war. -
Ah, I see. But how can you tell that he looks young when we can't see his face? Although I suppose I get that feeling, as well, now that I think of it; he doesn't have that battle-scarred veteran aura about him. Lacroix is the one I was thinking of, doesn't he look really young to you? Doesn't help that he was (partly) off-paneled by Oars Junior… seems to me like he's the "newbie" among the VAs.
It seemed to me that whenever we saw the VAs, save that opening shot, they appeared to be barking orders or just watching rather than actually engaging in combat themselves. Compare that to the captains from the New World or Whitebeard's commanders that were constantly seen fighting. Maybe they were a bit underworked in the war, apart from fighting in the bay at the beginning? Only the giant ones suffered any damage, from what I remember, none of the others looked like they had as much as a single scratch on them. I dunno.

It's tricky because he's a giant. But I agree, now that I look at him, he does look younger. But the others as well. Except John Giant.
Barking orders… it fits Doberman haha, but yes, they did nothing but shouted left and right while three of them (Momonga, Dalmatian and Onigumo) did all the work. But maybe that's because someone needed to lead the marines. The Admirals did the "dirty" work and the Vice-Admirals controlled everything from behind. Or at least I think it was the case.
Oars Jr. cut down Lacroix and Ronse got his head bashed. Also, John Giant fell too.
Gosh, the giants did all the work while Strawberry looked at the pirates from above saying: "Foolish pirates, they're perfect targets... shoot!" -
Yeah, it did seem as if the Vice Admirals did a lot of ordering fodder around and overseeing their defenses and whatever else. It's just curious that Oda barely ever showed a scene with any of them fighting while he did so for the captains, the commanders, the Shichibukai and the Admirals quite often. Either he's intentionally holding them back because they'll play a bigger role now in the New World, or they weren't important enough to show. I lean toward the former, though there may be a touch of the latter as well. Although Momonga and Dalmatian did go for Luffy at one point, which IIRC was when he started getting closer to Ace, so maybe they were kind of standing by and keeping a watchful eye on people getting too close?
-
They'd better be important!
You know that's not a bad idea. I could imagine that was their purpose. Although Oda could show them to do a little more than that. I guess it was already too much things going on in the war so the Vice-Admirals only got the background. Only thing that bothers me about that: some of them DID something, it just happened off-screen. Horn mask stood next to Strawberry with one of his horns missing (the scene that was deleted in the anime, meh) and later they showed Strawberry with his swords in his hands, so he must have used them. I maybe look to deep into it. But that's why I was waiting for the anime, I hoped it would make some awesome filler scenes. Sadly, those scenes were badly drawn but still I was happy for them. I also liked ep 464 with the Giant Squad, it didn't feel out of place and was nicely done. -
Well Oda made Ace/Whitebeard so that they could get killed in the war and planned ahead with that however he could have done this with one of the Vice admirals or a named marine character and had them die in the war as well and just made them for that reason to give us a marine death.
Just like how Whitebeard died and gave us a yonkou death.
how Ace died and killed someone close to Luffy.
A marine that Oda could have made that no one liked and killed it in the war would have been nice.! -iDgn6EyHPo&feature=related

Most dissappointing thing in One Piece?
Franky's new form. Man does he look retarded. The nipple lights are funny, but don't really help…the new form still sucks...
-
I've already adjusted to Franky's new look, but for some people, it might take longer. When we see him fighting in a battle, I'm pretty sure it'll look more epic.
-
I can't see Franky being as agile or fast with those huge ass arms, but I guess he can pack a punch now. I imagine he's pretty resilient too. I just wish his body was more proportionate.
-
Hm, well, he has shrunken down to a more manageable size following his debut chapter.
But aside from the lose of the pompadour, what I'm going to miss most about Franky's old design are those cool jackets he wore, especially the one for Movie 10. I still wonder if those huge shoulder orbs are supposed to be collapsable/removable.

It´s not disappointing, is only a thig that you don´t like.
-
i miss nami's short hair. and robin's hair looks greasy

He can still grow back his pompadour(and other neat hair styles).
He just doesn't do it often. -
I know, but it's not the same. His new design just isn't as visually appealing to me as the old one was.
-
I'd say I need to see Franky in battle before I give a final opinion on his new design. I always like his new design a bit more every time I see him pop out something new from it.
-
im getting used to frankys design. but itll take me more time to get used to nami's. she just doesnt seem young and vibrant anymore. i miss the cuteness, i dont want sexy
-
She is 20, you know.

Nami was always sexy. :/
-
she now has hips and no shirt, she's just sexy now. she can still be cute at 20 ;o

Spanking the monkey over Manga-girls is kinda lame, you know? :ninja:

Are you implying there's a time when spanking the monkey is cool?
-
Damn it PELL WHY DIDN'T YOU DIE!!!
-
That we don't get more than 5 chapters in a row. The number of breaks is only forgivable because of the quality
-
@Sonic:
Damn it PELL WHY DIDN'T YOU DIE!!!
I agree. I was kinda upset that he didn't die. He died being this big and hero and saving everyone! Plus the bomb was huge! Then it got runined because he came back with nothing wrong with him.
-
there will never be a tournament arc. i know horrible idea but love the fights potential and new characters
-
I hate tournament arcs. They're boring and take way too long.
-
I think a tournament arc would be pointless in One Piece, especially now, but the Davy Back Fight was kinda like a tournament arc. Not the best one, though, it was like a great filler arc ^^
-
@Sonic:
Damn it PELL WHY DIDN'T YOU DIE!!!
According to Oda-Logic, the bomb must have only destroyed his dream.
But yes, Pell is also my most disappointing thing.
-
Well pell didnt die so that the readers will think that people in One Piece dont die..it was a writing trick..
Now that I think of it, it would be retarded to kill a character with no REAL plot relevance in the future…The real dissapointing thing is how the fuck the supernovas which got stomped by Kizaru werent captured...
-
@Sonic:
Damn it PELL WHY DIDN'T YOU DIE!!!
This.
I get that Ace's death had more of an impact with no major (non-flashback) prior deaths but if Oda wanted that impact… why couldn't he have set up a situation wherein Pell shot the ball upwards or, well, anything that he could have feasibly survived?
I'm also not sold on Nami's hair. I don't mind her style change, but the hair makes her seem less Nami-like. Ah, I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.
-
- Pell not dying
- Robin without bangs :<
-
Haki is the most disappointing thing in OP. Not that it exist but that everyone and their mother now has it. Atleast these who are strong…. I would have liked it to be some "speical" fighting style but now its basic
-
What I really love about the Pell fiasco is that didn't Luffy give a speech to Vivi earlier in the arc about how it was naive to think that things could be solved without anyone dying? Guess she was right after all. (yes, I know those stupid guards and a bunch of mooks did probably die, but absolutely no one cares about them)
-

He has huge scars on his body.

Davy Back Fight isn't filler.
In the anime, some episodes were filler however.

The hell are you talking about?
Haki is dormant in every person, and most of them never use it in their whole entire lives. Only a few people can use/contol haki. How the hell is it basic?
And there already is a special fighting style. It's called Rokushiki. Doesn't require haki. -
He has huge scars on his body.
Oh wow. That pesky bomb, capable of blowing up and destroying anything within a 5 km radius of it, gave him some nasty scars. Poor Pell.
Davy Back Fight isn't filler.
The person you quoted didn't say it was a filler arc. They said it was kind of like a filler arc.
There's a difference.
-
Franky's new design is just too much. I dont read the manga but i saw it. Just too much. He now just looks TOOOO SUUUUPPPPAAAA!!! Also i hate how Oda focuses too much on luffy sanji and zoro. All the other characters dont get fights, especially franky, who is my favorite character.
-
Shut up, tori22.
-
If you read the manga you would most likely over the Franky design thing. Also, saying Oda doesn't give the other SHs fights is sort of ridiculous.
-

Those guards. Ah yes.
I agree. That speech is undermined every time Oda saves characters from dying. Not just in Alabasta but in all future arcs. It trivializes death.
I would forgive it if Coribou and that crew died or the fake Strawhats are dead. Hopefully he's learning from his mistakes. -
If you read the manta you would most likely over the Franky design thing. Also, saying Oda doesn't give the other SHs fights is sort of ridiculous.
Well it's kind of true. I mean I know One Piece isn't just about fights but some of the characters such as franky didn't get a real fight since enies lobby. They all fought Oars but still besides that franky didnt really get any fights.
Shut up, tori22.
I dont understand the joke.
-
I've given up trying to weigh what kills characters and what doesn't. At least we know definitively that a giant hole in the chest and a shot to the head is able to kill off an OP character. Also, tripping down the stairs.
-

Oh, didn't notice that.

I knew it was him. If you're gonna make an alternate, at least try to not to be conspicuous.
@Gomu:Well it's kind of true. I mean I know One Piece isn't just about fights but some of the characters such as franky didn't get a real fight since enies lobby. They all fought Oars but still besides that franky didnt really get any fights.
Franky was still developing before Enies Lobby.
So you're saying Franky vs Fukuro and Franky vs Nero weren't real fights? Shut up. -
Oh, didn't notice that.

So you're saying Franky vs Fukuro and Franky vs Nero weren't real fights? Shut up.What are you talking about? And no im just saying he hasn't had a real fight since then.
-
What did happen to Luffy's speech?
"People are going to die."Oh really, when? It was always odd on the idea of what could kill a person.
Missing half a face, giant hole in you, hundreds of bullets, and still going.
http://www.mangareader.net/103-2302-12/one-piece/chapter-195.htmlI always imagined that she fell carrying her sword, and the sword went through her stomach or something.
