I liked it mostly. Didn't care for Teach actually getting scared and whining. Entire point to his character is that he goes back and forth from nonchalant and relaxed to looking like he's in peril to laughing his ass off so you never know what he's really feeling. Here he doesn't look worthy of final villain. I want the Teach from Jaya back.
Agree they took too much liberty with Teach punching WB. Made WB look stupid continuing to attempt quake punching teach.
-
I thought the episode was disappointing… Felt pretty low-key, sad about the music. The shooting scene and voice acting were the really notable good parts. They made Whitebeard look like a bit of a doofus trying to use his powers on Blackbeard over and over again.
-
So, now that Whitebeard is dead, does that means people will stop with the idiotic countdowns?
Anyway, good episode. I had to laugh at the black and white scene when the BB pirates were shooting Whitebeard, though.
-
I thought it was obvious after the 2nd attempt - that he was just waiting for his bisento to fall back to him - so he could attack Teach with it…though that may only be me who thinks that.
I didn't really like that bit. Manga made WB more of a badass....BB uses his power - WB is totally unphazed and then proceeds to pwn him like a bitch.
-
Good episode. I think most has been said about it (the scenes where WB use Quake again and again against BB is a bit too much and made him pass for a moron..also the shooting scene is a bit long..)
But what , i , have found epic in this episode was the smile WB throws at sengoku's face near his end. The smile of a great man.
-

No. Actually probably not.
-
But Gear 2 WB was strange xD
-
All right, guys! Only four episodes until
! Sengoku's goat, who was cut from the anime version, reveals himself to be One Piece. For doing such a good job, the goat (a.k.a. One Piece) runs over to Luffy, gives him a big kiss on the cheek, and suddenly…Voila! Luffy is now King of the Pirates, everyone! He then solos all three admirals, the fleet admiral, the Five Elder Stars, Foxy, Enel's moonie army, Kong, and the Blackbeard pirate crew with ease, thus saving the world.
! ...Oh yeah, and then he smacks Marco around, but only because he's a little bitch. The WB pirate crew remnants all have a good laugh over that, and the series ends at 500 episodes. -

@N!ckGeroux:
Not a single scar on his back
fuckin sickOf course, that makes no effin' sense considering how Squardo's sword was clearly sticking out of his back that one time…
Ah well. On the whole, this episode was quite good. Sure, I'll agree that they should have picked a different track for the final scene, and the constant "Oyaji!"-shouts are pretty annoying, (While translating this episode and the last one, I actually added a comment saying that I must have accidentally grabbed the Oyajian dub) but on the whole, I'd say they did the manga justice. So long, Whitebeard. You died in a manner worthy of the insane badass you are.

Heh, would be fun to try and do an episode where you translate "oyaji" differently every time.
"Old man!"
"Pops!"
"Dude!"
"Mr. Binks!" -

"Old man!"
"Pops!"
"Dude!"
"Mr. Binks!"lyou forgot the most important one…. OLD BUDDY! from a fair few episodes back lol
anyways, thought this episode was great. Shat my pants when right after the opening the title screen came up :O
music choices here were mediocre but nevertheless I wasn't bored and left myself wanting more :)7/10

I know man, what was up with that? Interesting but wierd.
It wasn't Gear Second. It was a manifestation of his burning rage.
-
This is the first time that I've felt disappointed in the anime.
now don't get me wrong the episode was good but it could have been much much better…
first of all what the hell was with GEAR second whitebeard, it served no purpose what so ever. And they made whitebeard stupid while attempting to hit blackbeard with the quake again and again, I really wanted that scene just like the manga it shows whitebeard as a monster if one thing doesn't work BAM something else it took away from his epicness .I understand stand that they need to add filler to fights but DON'T change the characters, it was the same as luffy Vs. Aokiji they changed just a simple aspect and it ruined the whole scene.
But my biggest disappointment was the music , into the grand line was made for this episode...
Sorry for the long rant but it really bothers me when they do stuff like this, and this coming from a guy who prefers the anime.
-
I know man, what was up with that? Interesting but wierd.
It was shit… They copy and pasted it to make WB more awesome... But I see the anime kids now speculating about WB having Gear 2
-
This episode didn't blow me away like the last one, but it's gotta be one of the most solid episodes this far in the arc. It didn't feel streched out or that they added fluff, considering they adapt a chapter per episode. Whitebeard dying felt like an tired person finally getting sleep, and It was fitting.
I really like Blackbeard in this, he's like the bully at school who talk a big game, but when he's on the spot, just loses his mind.
-
if you just prepare yourself that nothing will ever do the manga justice again, you can stop getting your hopes up and find a new enjoyment to the show.
also i'll agree that whitebeard should not have turned all crazy red and looked like he went gear second
-

Haven't seen that episode. What did they change?
-
Man, that death scene was harder to watch than read…
-
Blackbeard landing blows on pops? -_____-
"just okay" episode for me
-
This may be a stupid question, but why did they cut out the Vice-Admirals? It's not like they had to censor them or anything… were they just lazy or ignored it or what?
I mean, they could've told us the horny VAs name. (he didn't talk in the manga but oh well. If Kaiser had plus lines and got a name, why not him? He's the only nameless VA) -

Haven't seen that episode. What did they change?Well if i remember it right, luffy usese gattiling gun in the anime
and breaks aokiji then he gets frozen while in the manga he just freezes him
normaly stuff like this does not bother me but i always saw it as to show how powerful an admiral was. it was something minor but it stills bothers me whenever i see the episode -
Just saw the episode again. Whitebeard is such a badass. The man was untouchable. Even as he was about to die - he made Blackbeard beg for his life and he was pissing himself because he knew WB was gonna kill him.
Whitebeard is gonna be a hard act to follow. He set the bar as high as the heavens. I loved the music they used right at the end - as WB died. That was great.
-
Blackbeard doing martial arts ruined it, It's suppose to be Blackbeard being powerless in front of a dying a man.
-
Dammit Toei why did you make it look like Blackbeard stood any chance against Whitebeard.
-
Well, I quit liked the epispde, but must say the BB blows on WB looked really shitty.
It was a great tribute to WB however and really liked the part where you see WB aging and adding his strongest of men.
-
I mean, they could've told us the horny VAs name.
What the hell? The horny vice admiral? I think you're talking about Momonga.
-
The guy in the horn mask.
-
Please Oda Show Us In The Future The Fights Between Roger And Whitebeard At Their Prime!
-
I coulda sworn I've seen this post, in that exact awkward wording
-
Mostly this episode was poor.
However the Blackbeard Pirates shooting scene was great.

He is not horny… is he?:ninja:
But yeah, I was talking about the guy with the horn mask who's twice as tall as the others.!
The guy behind Strawberry's awesome hat. He's the only one without a name.
I'm also curious how he became a VA. He seems pretty young especially compared to the others. -
the art for when then shot down Whitebeard was nice.Had me creeped out a bit. And i don't remeber blackbeard
beating on WB like that in the manga. Pops put his ass down and Teach couldn't do a thing about it -
Everytime I read AP forums anime episode discussions it feels like we're watching a COMPLETELY different series…
-
I think the episode was fantastic. The flashbacks were great and well executed and Whitebeard dying with the sea washing him away was a nice touch.
What is completely undeniable is that the direction during the Blackbeard Pirates attack was beautiful.
-
I think it helped the episode didn't literaly show the same flashback three times like last episode.

There, so happy I'm not alone!

Agreed, I couldn't ask for a better episode.
"Waaah Waaah BB got 2 punches in" "waaah waaah they're using music they've been using since the beginning of the show" >_>
The shot where WB was staring out into the sky, and the building faded away to a beautiful oceanscape, literally made me choke up. It's a shame we couldn't end up with the swords imbeded in his body, but all of the same points were made, so all of this pointless bitching is fanboy-ing of the highest degree.
-
There were no swords because they made Laffitte and Shot, who were the ones to stick them in, use pistols only.
What made me LOL is that with one punch BB eventually smacked Bisento away XD Oh, anime… It had to come back of course. So much for the script writers there.
-
487…
anybody reckon I'm gonna have a fan girl field trip when it comes out, or is this bitch gonna have to wait another episode?
...hopefully bricks WON'T be shat when -
[/spoilers for those who don't read the manga]! the Supernova appear. Apoos eyes scared me ; u ; srsly.
-
Oh I dunno Al!na, there were quite a few complimentary posts of the chapter early on in the thread, including mine.
Plus it's ok for folks to have different opinions on things.
-
@Cyan:
Dammit Toei why did you make it look like Blackbeard stood any chance against Whitebeard.
he did? where???
whitebeard could bearly move and was facing up against a devilfruit power that defies what was known previously as possible.
even still, whitebeard was destroying him. -
@Vegard:
Of course, that makes no effin' sense considering how Squardo's sword was clearly sticking out of his back that one time…
Way to miss the entire point.
It's saying he has not scars on his back as you would get from turning around and being hit on the back, nothing to do with something from the front going through.
It's saying he's never done anything but face an enemy. Never run away. -

It's saying he's never done anything but face an enemy. Never run away.agree. also there were no giant gaping holes. i don't think that the back was supposed to be viewed as whitebeard was actually standing there with an exposed back, but instead an image-over film technique to show that although he had scars on various locations none were on his back and it was because it was from never running from a fight.
I agree it was definitely confusing at first glance, but it's just like how whitebeard was standing there with the clouds breezing past really fast and the HQ vanishes - just a film technique to represent something entirely different from it's literal representation
-
Phenomenal episode, the Black and White bloodied scene where Whitebeard gets a lot of wounds was very good, and so was his final moments (the music was phenomenal, I don't know what you guys are talking about, and the flashbacks of him getting hit were pretty good too), as mentioned here, too, Blackbeard and Whitebeard's seyuus were phenomenal, especially considering Whitebeard's seems to be a newbie in the voice acting department.
The only nitpick I have against this episode is how Blackbeard's powers worked, as far as I am aware, Whitebeard was supposed to be unable to attack Blackbeard using quakes because he had the blackhole sucking his DF from below, not because of Kurouzu, which was used to draw Whitebeard in to Blackbeard.Regardless, great episode, I would give it a 8/10

I'm also curious how he became a VA. He seems pretty young especially compared to the others.Oh sorry. I though you were calling him horny because he stabbed his hand to avoid Hancock's beam (he does look pretty horny in the picture though). Anyways I see the one you're talking about in the badass mask, and if I recall he hasn't been shown in action yet has he?
