Bottom right panel. Mira and Lisanna have bigger problems than just Grimoire Heart. And Wendy, too…
Mashima, if that was intentional, that's hilarious.

Interesting? That the next anime opening?
I doubt it. It's an OVA, so this opening will most likely only be used for it. I've never heard of an OVA having a theme that ended up being used in the same anime.
It's lookin pretty good. Do we know who's singing that, because it sounds like a character song by Natsu to me.
I'm worried about Ultear. Is it being hinted that she has some kind of romantic relation to Zerref? Cause I hope not, I fear that might lead to an angsty twist. But there's just as good a chance that won't happen.
Otherwise, everything else was great. Top shonen stuff. The enemy is intimidating, yet everyone of our heroes featured in this chapter looked as good as they can be. This is looking tough to mess up.
A prety awesome chapter , mostly thanks to Makarov .
Plot twists
So Hades was the 2nd master of Fairy Tail and he left 40 years ago
We know that Ultear was at least 9 when she brainwashed Gerard into believing he could revive Zeref.
So I guess the timeline works for when Hades started his plans.
When is the release of that OVA? O_O
@Thousand:
Ugh, I was liking this chapter up to when it was revealed that the big bad was Markarov's former master. What a shitty plot twist.
I also like that Hades is even older then Makarov , how old is he 75 plus ?
Makarov's close to 90, I think was said earlier on in the series, so Hades has got to be a ways over 100.
Then again, this is a fantasy series, so age probably doesn't mean as much.
No comments on Pedobear attacking Lisanna and Mira? I thought that was hilarious…
Anyway, in the first page, is that heart in the center of the Guild signpost still in the current sign? If so, that could have been a subtle hint that none of us had caught.
Oh, and Makarov is 88. It's even stated in this chapter he was fourty fourty-eight years ago, so do the Math.

Anyone notice the ship in the top panel? It doesn't look damaged at all so it doesn't seem to be the one that Azuma kaboom-ed.
Wow pretty good chap. Flashback made me think Makarov was going to die until the twist in the end.

The ship he blew up is from the council. Why would he blow up his own ship?

Derp , sorry for that
I just didn't notice at the time .
Also , anyone think Makarov looked…..realy stupid at 40 ?
@Zik:
The ship he blew up from the council. Why would he blow up his own ship?
I'm saying that it looks fully intact (i.e another ship?), whereas earlier on the ship from the Council was fully blown up.
I'm saying that it looks fully intact (i.e another ship?), whereas earlier on the ship from the Council was fully blown up.
There are two ships. The one from the council is long gone. Azuma blew it up. The ship in this chap is the Grimorie Heart ship. Makarov smashed it and Ultear did some magic to rebuild it.
Don't see the confusion. GH ship was in the sky and the council ship was on water.

that's Fairy Tail's ship. The one Azuma blew up was the Council Battleship.
Okay I'm lost. How is that Fairy Tail's ship? Makarov is attacking FT's ship? Did I miss the chap when the GH members got on their ship?
It's going to be really hard to fuck this one up… but I trust in his abilities to do so.
God, huys. What's the problem? There are 3 ships: the council one, the Fairy Tail one, and the flying ship of Grimoire Heart. The first was blown by Asuma, the second is still intact, and the third one was destroyed by Makarov and then restored by Ultear.
And yes, a pretty good chapter. Mashima add more and more detail to this arc and yet doesn't make it worse than mediocre. TLK is just a bit sad due to the new manga regualtaion bill or something.
@Zik:

No, he's talking about this:
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/88559921/7
See the little ship down in the water? He's referring to that. That's the ship that Fairy Tail came to the island on. He's not talking about Grimoire Heart's airship.
If that's Fairy Tail's ship, how the hell did Gildartz/Fried/Bixlow get back to the guild? o_o
They flew off on Bixlow's totems of course.
But to be serious, I'm pretty sure Erza, Gildartz, etc. had to be on the island before the others, so there's probably a second Fairy Tail ship that Gildartz and the others took back.
@No:
Huh ?
TLC's scared shitless that his beloved Negima will be canned thanks to a new anime/manga regulation bill that was just approved that has the potential to be heavily abused and impose a Draconian set of censorship guidelines on the Tokyo-based industry. No one's really happy about it, including the major publishers. There's a thread in the General section about it.
Anyone has a link ? I can't find it .

Oh. Didn't even notice that little ship.
I too thought Gildartz left on that but there could've been another ship.

Relevant stuff starts here.
Basically it started out as a basc anti-lolicon bill that snowballed into something much more zealous under the (rather hypocritical) governor of Tokyo. To put things in perspective, the worst case scenario is that this bill could kill large chunks of the industry just like the American Comics Code killed off most comic genres save for Silver Age superheroes and Archie.
Lol, didn't notice that bear on that panel. Wonder if Mashima did that on purpose.

Though someone should tell these so worried people, that unless there's something more, the law is only about restricting explicit sexual material. That and the government already has the power to restrict such content, and in a much broader way. But the law is also about cell-phones and internet and even real phothos, not just manga/anime.
Honestly I think it was more of a Pandaman refernece if anything .
quick question
was that an anti-fairy law he used, like cancelled it out
or was it a basic two guys each holding nukes situation and saying "if you fire, I fire, and we all lose/die"

It's the latter. Hades basically said, "If neither of us release, we'll all get blown to hell."
Don't jinx it ¬_¬
Everyone is thinking it!
Also, I have a question. Is there a rumor going around that Mashima is actually a team of authors instead of one guy? Cause it feels like this arc and chapter was written by a different guy, and not just in quality.
Look at Lucy. In this chapter she nearly gets cut apart because she's apparently the only one slow enough to miss it. Now this has happened before, but then I remember where we were one arc ago. Lucy ran on a giant octopus tentacle and fought with a whip–both take good reflexes. Where did that go now? Sure there's the element of surprise but still. It's like Lucy lost all her sudden, albeit unexplained combat skills.
There's also Wendy's role in this arc. She jobbed out to the first guy! It's like Mashima felt compelled to add a lolicon into the series in that one arc then as time goes on he realizes this character adds little or nothing to the series. Like one author wanted this character there in the Oracion Seis arc, but forgot to explain why she's important for the rest of the series to the next guy.
It'd also explain how this guy can draw so much manga. Looking back, Oracion Seis, Edoras, and this arc just feel so different!
Arc started off great.. then I got a bit worried, but now it looks like it is awesome again!
MIND = BLOWN.

Sounds like something that could happen inside the head of a guy that draws too much manga.
I kinda doubt Mashima's actually a hivemind. He's far from the only author to flip-flop or change his mind on what characters are capable of.
I'd chaulk this arc's current quality up to it being in the works for a longer period of time. So far it's tied itself into the main myth arc of the series, Zeref, in such a way that will leave its mark on the rest of the series, as well as going into the backstories of both Makarov and the guild itself. By comparison, Edoras was very out there and had little impact on the storyline (yeah, it explained Mystogan, the cats, and brought back Lisanna, but those haven't really changed the status quo any as it stands). The events that are currently happening strike me as something that has always been meant to happen, though the circumstances may have changed, while some stuff like Edoras strikes me as Mashima one day going ''hey, wouldn't it be cool if…'' and modifying the existing story to fit it in.
If Makarov bites it, I'll be a sad. :(
Also, I have a question. Is there a rumor going around that Mashima is actually a team of authors instead of one guy?
Mashima is like Gerard. There's a lot of them in FT, why there can't be a lot of Mashimas? :ninja:
Whoa.
I really, really liked this chapter. Great plot twist, didn't see it coming at all. I really wonder how the FT guys are going to get out of this one, especially if Makarov dies. Even if they blaze through the fodder, they still have the Seven Kin to deal with. Perhaps Zeref will surprise us? -shrugs-
Whoa.

I'm sure Natsu can eat a rock or something for a one time powerup. Or draw upon tomorrow's power today.
@Fire Fist:
Dude, you're just a troll now. Shut up.
Little baby needs to realize that I can express distaste to something whenever I want if I have a reason for it which I happen to do.
@Fire Fist:
That was an awesome plot twist.
No, it was an awful plot twist. The problem is that Mashima pulled out all this history out of his ass at the last moment to force-feed some drama whilst the reveal itself will ultimately mean nothing anyway. Now if he calmly built up the history of the guild along the way, then the revelation would have meant something and it would have been intense and awesome. As is, it's just some random pointless unnecessary event whose greatest merit is to make us go "Ooh what a coincidence!" whilst not even having an actual effect on the damn story. Let's not get into how annoying it is that Mashima has to make the big bad a former master to make Markarov lose and how stupid the whole age issue makes it.
@RobbyBevard:

No. We've heard of that happening before. Everybody knows that the best powerup comes completely out of nowhere with absolutely no build up.

Your biggest complaint is the age issue? Seriously? This is a shonen, dude. There are characters that live to be hundreds of years old. You're just assuming that he's going to live a natural life span. His damn name is Hades… perhaps he used some kind of life extension. Maybe he swapped hearts... There are plenty of way someone could be still alive at an old age. We don't know exactly how old he was in the flashback, anyway. Even in the real world, people nowadays have been seen living up to 119. So that's ridiculous if you're going to complain about the age.
While you're at it, why don't you complain about how Gildarts lived after having an organ ripped out of him? By real world logic, unless it was one of his kidneys, or his appendix, or his gall bladder, or one of his lungs, he would've died. He would've died anyway from blood loss from having half his body ripped off.
As for Hades being the 2nd Guild Leader, there were actually plenty of subtle hints. As I pointed out, the Grimoire heart logo actually vaguely resembles the Fairy Tail one... not the Fairy itself, but the heart of the signpost outside. Not to mention the fact that there would be no way Hades would know where Tenrou Island was unless he either had: A. A Mole, which we thought was Mest, but he turned out to be a Government Mole, not a GH Mole; or B. Previous affiliation with the guild.
Lastly, the absence of information is not "pulling it out of his ass". It's waiting to reveal it so you can have twists like this. We were never told the name/identity of the 2nd Guild Member for a reason. We were told that Makarov was the third, and at the start of this arc, Mavis was the first. Unless you're an idiot, you'd know there has to be a second. This isn't Naruto where it goes backwards before it goes forwards in succession (3rd becoming the Hokage again after Yondaime died). Makarov had no reason to mention Pureheart (Or Purehito, but I don't really trust Mangastream's initial translations of names) until now, because he just assumed he had "gone on a journey" and died.
How many years was it in One Piece before we found out that Garp was his grandfather and Dragon was his dad? Over 8 years into the series… But I'm sure you wanna bitch about that, too. And it took us 10 years to meet the final Shichibukai (Jinbe).
So, yeah... try again.
I'm not saying this was a terrible reveal like TLC is, but I think you guys are seriously over rating it.

Well, it's not like it was completely out of the blue:

Back then, you would've thought he had a grudge against Fairy Tail. After this chapter, it makes even more sense.

@Fire Fist:
Lastly, the absence of information is not "pulling it out of his ass". It's waiting to reveal it so you can have twists like this.
There's a fine line between an out of blue plot-twist and pulling out the ass. Especially when the latter has not even the slightest hint and absolutely no reason or meaning to it.

The second master and the entire history of the guild wasn't even mentioned till this arc. That's the problem. How am I supposed to be impressed by this "twist" when it doesn't even mean anything to me. It's just a forced contrivance.
@Fire Fist:

I hate it when people try to drag in other series because they're incapable of discussing the series itself. Also relevance? Because all those characters were hinted and foreshadowed at way in advance. Opposed to this guy which we only got two chapters ago.
@Fire Fist:
So, yeah… try again.
How about you stop trolling for once?
Overrating what, the revelation of the equivalent of Dragon being Luffy's dad as Fire Fist said? Geez…
I'll bite with the comparisons for once. Dragon was hinted way in advance as some super important, super-wanted charactertied to the protagonist, referred to often along the way and the fact that he's Luffy's father meant a lot to the story in many ways. This is just some dumb coincidence that's tied to a lot of history force-fed at the last moment.
