I've always been concerned as to why One Piece, or rather, Toei, has to take such measures as eliminating the licensing and other costs for the EDs by disposing of them entirely. The shock value is tremendous considering how amazingly popular and profitable One Piece is, to much justice.
Personally, I would prefer the endings back, wholeheartedly. The 2:30 opening is nice, but the idea of two different songs and video sequences seems more favorable. Probably contrary to entire belief, there is art direction and significant thought that goes into the openings and endings. Call me pathetic, but I'm completely vulnerable to the emotions that openings and endings can evoke, especially with our most recent one, "Fight Together." If I can have something at the end of the episode that can remind me why I'm watching One Piece after a distasteful filler episode or reassure my love for One Piece after an epic episode, then I'm all for it. My second time through the series, I loved hearing "Memories" play at the end of those early episodes.
As for the lamp action motif reminder in the beginning of each episode, I think it can be handled in a similar fashion. For something they make once to include in every episode, it could be more visually stimulating. A sequence of flashback fights or something like that would be more entertaining than the Straw Hats standing on a giant map whilst our narrator talks for a minute if you ask me.
