This may have been mentioned before, but I can imagine that submarines are a preferred mode of transportation for the revolutionary – hence Robin's comment about submarines in the beginning of the chapter.
Chapter 604: "Into the Depths" Discussion
-
-
Spent wayyy too much time on the sea current stuff.
Cariboo morphed from fodder to bitch.
Luffy about to tame the Kraken really easily. I know this because he calls it a "little guy", meaning he's soo used to taming them from his island training. Cariboo will see this, shit bricks, and tell his crew not to f with the SH's.
-
@imp:

I thought she was referring to the Shark Submerge.
-
Luffy rang the bell at their graves so yeah, he knows.
It would be interesting for the Kraken to be their nakama but I kinda see it as just being something they use to get through FI and afterwards just let it go. Kinda like the octopus they used to descend from Skypeia (Unless that was only in the anime, I never read the manga for that part so I apologize if that's the case).
-
Luffy is gona duplicate zeus: "Release the kraken"!!

You're overdoing it.
Sea current stuff was useful to show that Oda is trying not to bullshit us with fantasy world physics.
Caribou is mostly acting, there's no way he'd be stupid enough to think he could take on all 9 by himself even if he is a Logia. Would YOU be that much of a fucking retard? Apparently so?
It will not be "easy". The Kraken will probably nearly destroy the ship, and everyone will tell Luffy to stop trying and let them focus on escaping, and Luffy will barely convince it in time to not destroy them; either that, or Jinbei or someone will pop in and help upon being notified of their coming arrival. And Caribou will either be impressed by how batshit fucking insane Luffy is OR he will simply continue trying to get his crew to attack. I still do not see him running away once his entire crew gathers.
-
How the fuck did you just make Caribou look cute?!
Lol, i just made the first one. I got the picture you quoted from Pixiv :P
-
Also, for the record, my vote for Caribou is a putty/ plastic paramecia fruit user. He can manipulate his body's plasticity (ability to hold a single form) just like luffy can manipulate hist body's elasticity. He absorbed that cannonball into his body, it didn't pass through him like it would a logia. He should resistant to impacts like Luffy, and also be able to manipulate his body into different shapes.
Ooooh! Nice one, I like it!
Does any one else think that Coribou is one of the cutest characters in OP? "Bro-Brooo!" He's just endearingly pathetic, like a puppy.

@Don:
Even so thats sure the explanation..in ca. 1000 meters thats just impossible without some special glasses.
A normal eye is not able to use that light a plant could still use for photosynthesis.http://apforums.net/showpost.php?p=1985723&postcount=112
Yup,I like the "breeding place", because in the fog-silhouette it could easily be 3 or more of those guys.
And the florian triangle is definitely close enough to now make the entry to FI a new hunting ground for one those kraken. The Kraken would fit, maybe, but what would be the importance of the shadow near TB if no character noticed it? Only some easter egg? :getlost:
"Yes, you're right, it was the Kraken" but nothing more? :sad:Robin has a red tattoo on the leg??
on the lower left side
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/12514403/3Already mentioned. ^^
And it might be just a stain or something… what a strange tatoo if it's really one. Or maybe she was marked by her jailors in Tequila Wolf?
BTW, I LOVE your avatar ^^ -
I laughted SO MUCH when Chopper stole Brook's skull joke and he became depressed about it. That was so great. :'DD And wow, that creature pulling their ship was actually Moo Moo? I never would've believed that it would make a comeback. I always thought it was cute, so I really like seeing it again.
I thought it was cool how Oda actually explained a real-life phenomenon in such detail and then used it in a situation that would never be possible in real world. How awesome would it be to ride down a sea current?
-
@Don:
The iguana obviously controls Coribou.

But a plant can't survive on that little light.
Yeah, without any source of power that brings their "chlorophyll b" to a higher condition, no green plant is able to survive.
But some are like pros in using even the smallest amount of light to split H2O.
But also parasite plants exist, which use the energie out of their host.
So it is possible (now for the OP-world spoken) that some parasite-plants are on the roots of the mangroves and by that are able to grow even without any light at all.(but that are most of the time sorts of fungi in real life…a specific green plant i dont think can
t exist without light at all)I expect we'll meet most of the others shortly. Bioluminescence is obviously going to be a major factor at FI.
Absolutely..Anglerfish iam pretty sure, somehow.
Bioluminescence will most likely give us the impression of FI as if it would be a city by night.
For that Oda could use animals, fungis, special plants etc in so many ways..uhuu -
i gotta leave, again D:
im at college but im bored, im gonna draw some Cari-chibies :3
-
Haha, I love the Wapol face Caribou made when he realized he was on his own.
And that Kraken looked beastly.
-
No worries, soon they'll be entering the aphotic zone and groping around in the dark.
Good one! I'm with you and DonQ on this – I hadn't thought of it specifically as a breeding ground, but since the Florian trio seems to be of different sizes, that's a great explanation.
Also, according to this site:
http://www.squid-world.com/squid-reproduction.html
Squid can travel large distances to mate, and in the mating grounds the males can be very aggressive. Also, all that swimming in circles could explain the choppy and unpredictable currents in the triangle. Especially if it's skyscraper-sized squid doing the swimming.
"baby squid fend for themselves from the very start" – maybe Luffy isn't wrong then in calling this one "little". Maybe it's a baby-giant that has lost its way down. They live in deep water after all.
But a plant can't survive on that little light. According to wiki : We've already met the giant squid. I expect we'll meet most of the others shortly. Bioluminescence is obviously going to be a major factor at FI.
Yeeesss!
Bring on the dragon-, hatcher- and anglerfish! -
YAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWN!!!! I almost died reading all that stuff but then the kraken appears fucking epic.
-
The Kraken would fit, maybe, but what would be the importance of the shadow near TB if no character noticed it? Only some easter egg? :getlost:
"Yes, you're right, it was the Kraken" but nothing more? :sad:Well, the giant shadows before Skypia also weren
t THAT important afterall. Also we
re close to the NW, so i dont think that the Florian Triangle will be ever that important again. And having here a breeding place for giant kraken which all those years let vanish the ships would be a good explanation. Also it would be added something to that why that kraken right now has moved to that new location and didn
t stay at Florian Triangle. -
Was one of the best chapters period. I seriously love explanation chapters that depicts one piece's world. I stared at that current waterfall for like 10 minutes to grasp the fact that there is something like that in this manga. Just like the method for getting to skypeia, i also fell in love with this concept too. I cant believe this manga just keeps getting better and better.
-
thx Castelmore ;p
I have a funny feeling , kraken will and up as takoyaki ;)
-
The Kraken would fit, maybe, but what would be the importance of the shadow near TB if no character noticed it? Only some easter egg? :getlost:
"Yes, you're right, it was the Kraken" but nothing more? :sad:Oda let us know that long before Moriah, ships were disappearing in the Florian Triangle for a long time. And showing us that silhouette let us know exactly why. It's just more of his mystery building and now after several years this may be the exact answer we were looking for. He does things like that all the time.

Dont' know wheather this was mentioned before, but the colorspread seems to have an Oda version of the "Bremer Stadtmusikanten" (Town Musicians of Bremen, a German Fairy tail)

I see this discussion has gotten interesting. Add in some mix of Atlantis and the imperial design of the "God of the Seas" (I get images of olden Chinese folk tales), and Oda will have won me over big time.
It'll also be a big strain on his pen if it's that dark down there. :ninja:

You bet..i didn`t even hoped for such amazing undersea pics.
I just thought..well that it would be not that breathtaking.
But especially when they see the first time the roots of the mangroves and now the underwater "waterfall"..just brilliant. So lets just rly hope that Oda makes FI a dark and gloomy city which just has some bioluminescence to light it up here and there (sure the hot spots on that island will be bright and wide open).
Lets also hope that the crew gets some kind of leaves which gives them oxygen while having them in their mouths, instead of bubbles to walk down there.(when the whole island isn`t surrounded by a big coating bubble, which i highly doubt, or else every mean guy would easily destroy it.)
-
Hm, I had an idea: why not use the biological attributes of sea creatures and utilize them in everyday tools? A glowing squid lantern would be great to see… And how would the bubbles come into play...?
Yep, Oda's gonna use lots of ink if it's dark down there...
-
Eöectric eeld i could see, being used as lamps.
But the fishman would maybe see that kind of differnet when their friends are used like tools down there.
I mean they can talk to them, so using them all the time like a "thing"..well, well. -
Wow, another week where I miss the entire spoiler thread, so this was a surprise.
-Awesome colorspread.
-Whoa…..Mohmoo?! I TOTALLY wasn't expecting that, what a nice surprise.
-Loved how Sanji beat Caribou up yet got a nosebleed at Nami's sight the panel after. XD
-Ha, interesting mechanics of their travel.
-Lmao at Luffy, Zoro, Chopper, and Usopp's collective "mysterious sea currents" thought.
-And holy hell, a kraken?! Oda sure surprised me this week….Not too many developments, but I did like the chapter.
-
oh man bioluminescence ftw!
Also, for the record, my vote for Caribou is a putty/ plastic paramecia fruit user. but what's "putty" in japanese?
i'm for mochi mochi no mi :ninja:hmm…Caribou says "I've never heard of one of those living in a place like this" and "It must be preying on the ships trying to ride on the downward current"
Could it be possible that FI planted the Kraken there sometime over the past 2 years to ward off pirates/slave traders (possibly marines) as an added measure of security since it's no longer under WBs protection?
-
It'll also be a big strain on his pen if it's that dark down there. :ninja:
That's what inkers are for.
Hey – in the last few chapters, I was under the impression that Oda brought a new inker on board. Maybe he did specifically to cope with all the dark he'll soon be drawing.
@Don:

The moodiness and isolated "light" of deep sea that you're predicting would suit what we know about the history of Fishman Island. I hope you're right.
Lets also hope that the crew gets some kind of leaves which gives them oxygen while having them in their mouths, instead of bubbles to walk down there.(when the whole island isn`t surrounded by a big coating bubble, which i highly doubt, or else every mean guy would easily destroy it.)
I'm not sure how Oda will handle the breathing under water aspect either. Bubbles suddenly seem too "cute" and frail for deep sea – assuming it's the kind of deep sea that we're predicting.
hey boiga, if you're out there still: have any theories on how the crew will breathe in deep sea?
EDIT: m3mori -- good theory.
-
I am really glad I didn't read the all the spoilers, I just peeked at them.
I think page 16 was one of the best. Going to adjust Sanji to hot women with photos.Rubia, every time I see that Sunny pic in your signature, I marvel at the beauty.
I don't know how to use blender pretty much at all. Is there any online tutorials?
I would really love to find a tutorial for that kind of coloring. The shine is amazing. -
franky was awesome
-
Has Zoro and Luffy seemed friendlier since the time skip?
When everybody is relaxing drinking was great.
I think Usopp's new design is awesome.
Nami's face is better now. The eyes are returning to the
original, larger size. I really like everyone's new appearence,
Chopper's hat is now larger. -
@Don:

but what's "putty" in japanese?
i'm for mochi mochi no mi :ninja:Try "pate pate no mi", then. Mochi is something to eat. Tasty too.
Could it be possible that FI planted the Kraken there sometime over the past 2 years to ward off pirates/slave traders (possibly marines) as an added measure of security since it's no longer under WBs protection?
The legend of the Kraken has gone on much longer than just 2 years. If 70% of ships traveling there are lost because of it, I doubt Rayleigh meant for only these past two years.
He's an overtime worker, that Kraken guy.
hey boiga, if you're out there still: have any theories on how the crew will breathe in deep sea?
I imagine an enbubbled city, where there are bubbles of all sorts, used for various purposes, within this huge bubble. It'd be a beautiful sight with the glittering lights.
-
Do you have a larger version of that picture, Rubia?
I thought it was awesome they brought back the sea cow.
That is still one of the funniest scenes. When Sanji was going to feed it at Arlong Park.Let me know if this theory is wrong.
We have noticed they used burning lamps for light in One Piece.
Are they able to burn anything while inside the bubble?
Wouldn't the smoke/fumes and also the heat produced endanger the bubble? -
wow another early chaper!!
-
Momoo-lovers, unite!
Do you have a larger version of that picture, Rubia?
Of the Sunny's descent, right? It was colored by Renegadesoul. She did two different colorings; I took the latter. Here's the thread page where it's from:
http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=17826&page=160Let me know if this theory is wrong.

Wouldn't the smoke/fumes and also the heat produced endanger the bubble?Exactly why I suggest bioluminescence for light. It rids of the complications. And yes, burning something within a bubble would not be a good idea.

Do you think we´ll see Arlong again in the new arc? Too many Arlong's saga references so far.
I hope Oda won't try to redeem the guy or something.
-
Very curious about Zoro's comment "I always wanted a fire sword."
Though seemingly unimportant, could be foreshadowing of Zoro getting a new sword or new ability. One that can be set ablaze at will maybe. Though Zoro already seems to have that ability somewhat, maybe he will refine that "dragon" technique he used on Ryuma.

I wouldn
t say it
s impossible.
We already saw that also Jinbe was thinking about him while they were sailing to Marineford, so Jinbe will for sure talk about him once more.
I actually don`t see him necessary for the story right now nor have we seen him escape….but on FI his chances are the highest to reappear, hehe.Very curious about Zoro's comment "I always wanted a fire sword."

Well, he didn`t want to upgrade his swords with dials from Usopp.
So he would have been able to have a flaming sword. -
Thanks for the larger Sunny pics.
I am going to look for tutorials later.
After seeing the Sea Cow I think Oda might be hinting at bringing Arlong back.
I am not sure if I am for it. -

. . . You did read the pun explanation, right? What kind of swordsman wouldn't think a fire sword is cool? You're looking too much into it, Oda wouldn't base a powerup off of a pun on salinity.
-
The fire sword was a pun, just a joke.
I didn't quite get why luffy suddenly asked where Zoro went. I can't wait for the strawhats to tell each other where they were. Luffy will be amazed at them all, especially zoro and sanji. Who will most likely start throwing the banter at each other :P
I made a joke to a friend that mohmoo would return… Then he actually did.
I lol'd soooo hard at caribous face fault that utterly destroyed abs re invented his character. I really like him now. How long till I see him cosplayed... -
arlong for new nakama?

Sigh… if you insist dints.
I've been dreaming lately (yes I dream one piece... it's why I'm here after all) about a deep sea bioluminescent giant sponge reef. Sea sponges are filter feeders that live by filtering out food particles floating freely in the water. The giant tunnel that makes up the connection between the first and second halves of the grandline have to be nutrient rich, considering it's the only water passage between the two hemispheres on this side of the planet. The sponges could thrive in such an environment to reach a magnitude similar to the harukiman mangroves.
And that's the other important aspect here. Mangroves work by having their root systems span from above water to the soil far beneath. This allows for easier gas transfer to their roots so that they don't asphyxiate underwater. So, the harukiman mangroves should be constantly bringing breathable air down to their roots while removing waste gasses from the same. These are the same gasses that create the bubbles in Shabondy. My impression is that the Fishmen could simply tap into the gas exchange of these root systems. Their scale, as shown last chapter, has an enormity sufficient to provide for an entire city's air supply.
Okay, follow me here. If we have giant sponges with an air supply and a water pressure resistant barrier that can be applied over anything, why not a sponge style apartment complex? Coat the outer holes of the sponge, and drain the inside. You'll have thousands of soft, cushioning, intersecting rooms. You would have thousands of small coated barriers instead of one big vulnerable bubble. The outside of the sponge colony would still be covered with living polyps while you inhabit its skeletal interior. It'd be both beautiful and weird enough to be something Oda would think up. Here are a few pics that I think could be an inspiration for something like this:
!

Nami told those two to stay over there where they wouldn't listen to her explanations, and why not ask where he went? And I think Oda will go gradually with their tales; just hinting at some while blabbing outright with others, perhaps?
Edit: boiga, you're back! And yes, that's brilliant. It works well with the enbubbled city idea.

omg omg omg KRAKEN!

If Oda doesn't do that, then I'm making a story that takes place in a world like that! -
Or is it…? :ninja:
If it's not, and Zoro gets a fire sword as a LONG-TERM powerup, I will delete this account and make a new one (without telling anyone what my previous account was) to be subjected to the recent bias against new posters.
And you can quote me on that. Zoro will not get a long-term fire sword just because of a salinity pun.
