I'd watch those movies for a variety of reasons, and not just because those posters are hilarious.
Scott Pilgrim

-
Sure. If you like creepy chicks that peep through your window and mimicks your friends to fit in.
as i've had an argument with my girlfriend over this, i feel the need to point out that knives was mimicking scott's 'hipster' girl friends partially because she thought it was the kind of girl he liked, and she liked scott and wanted him to like her. i think she was trying to fit into his crowd to be with him, not just to be cool..
she was trying to fit in with her boyfriend's friends, which is kind of cute.

I'm a big fan of the comics and can't wait for this adaptation. It's somehow jarring that they are not including any material (well, how could they) from the final volume but on the other hand the author has given them some info, so I look forward to seeing how the final part of the movie is handled.
I just love the overall campy, video game & pop culture induced, even 4th wall- breaking atmosphere of the comic. If they have managed to include even a fraction of that into the movie, I'll be satisfied.
Btw, did anyone else mark out when Ramona and Scott did X Strike on Gideon?
-
Review I don't know if it has spoilers, but it got 77%
-
Ah damn, my country won't see the release of this movie until September. Can someone gives me a plot summary? And I'll eat up all spoilers, though please put it under spoiler tag because some people don't like getting spoiled.
-
Review I don't know if it has spoilers, but it got 77%
Its up to 79 now. They have enough major critics that like it just depends on the people now cross your fingers.
-
Saw it, loved it. I'm glad it stayed as faithful as it could to the comics, and I welcomed the changes it made to fit a reasonable length of a movie.
One of the things I loved more in the movie was Lucas Lee. Definitely the least interesting evil ex, but he was absolutely hysterical in the movie. Schwartzman was great too.
-
Bought volume 4 today. Definitely the best of the bunch, MAYBE tied with 3, maybe.
-
I saw "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" today. It was fantastic. I don't think I've ever walked out of a movie theater happier than I did earlier. Go see it.
-
This movie is the equivalent of a little kid yelling and waving a flashlight in your face with a soap opera playing in the background.
-
80% on rotten tomatoes as of two seconds ago.
saw it. loved it. not as much so as the comics, but definitely giving it a MUST-SEE recommendation to friends.liked ramona a lot more in the movie, although she's a far less independent GIRL POWER character.
stephen stills and the ending were better in the movie. mark webber is always great, though, so i expected one of those
things. -
Just got back it truly is an epic of epic epicness. Story wise I was really satisfied and everything else was perfect.
-
So… I found this.
!
And the movie finally got a official release date here. 10/15 hooray!

Twilight sucks so that comment is invalid
-
Fantastic movie marred only by weak performances from Cera, Winstead, and Schwartzman. Recommending!
Much more memorable, fun, and amusing than Kick-Ass.
-
Fun movie but I have a few gripes.
-The whole "WHAT SHOULD I DO?" from Cera was terrible.
-Fights were too long, and that time could've been used for character development.
-NO DOUBLE DRAGON FIGHT. >:(
-hardly any character development at all
and the pluses/changes:
! +Lucas Lee scene was funny, but again too long
! +Matthew Pattel fight went better than the comic. Still too long, but the change of scott and his friends posing and singing along was terrible. I'm glad they changed that.
! +Knives was adorable for the first 1/3
! +Band battle was cool. I was expecting Crash and the Boys to help though.
! Some spoiler minuses:
! -No Envy vs. Ramona and Knives
-No closure with Envy at all
-No Kim development
-Time spent too much on the band songs and fighting. That time should've been divided up to the characters. It's a hard movie to recommend, it's cheesy, but if you know it's based on a comic it's easy to look through.
So for fans and gamers, I see this as a: 8-9/10
For non-fans and non-gamers (who have no clue what's going on) it's a: 5-7/10
So it's definitely a success. I enjoyed it.
-
Walked out of the theater with a big damn grin. Not a perfect movie, but a damn entertaining one.
Rarely do I feel so rewarded for being a fan.
-
Scenes that you wnated to see answers-
Highlights scene
! Yes and damn was it awesome
Save point scene
! No
Make out scene
! No
All in all i give it a strong 8.5 IF YOU LIKE VIDEO GAMES OR COMIC BOOKS or are a fan of the series. If not, go if you want to see a fun movie with some really, really, really good fight scenes. I loved it but it wasnt without it's share of flaws, one major one being some of the exes fights were too long, which was fine but when you sacrifice things like the important line that "Scotts the best fighter in the providence." to extend fights then it becomes a hinderance. Gideon really didnt need
! two fights either.

If I hear one more moron say "Twilight for Boys", I don't know what I'd do.

@Mary:
Twilight for boys
It's like I'm really in a Bakemonogatari thread in /a/.

Not enough pretentious.
Also, Bakemonogatari wasn't hipster.

-
See both.
Scott Pilgrim isn't going anywhere for a while.
-
need to see this or will die
-
need to see this or will die
Please do because it needs all the help it can. Scott Pilgrim came in 4th yesterday and that means it will not be pretty when the numbers come out.
-
DAMMIT! I can't believe scott pilgrim is doing so bad at the box office. I mean I know the expendables was gonna rake in alot but damn. Oh well maybe if nothing actiony comes out next week all the action fans will come out to see it then. Oh and before anyone says the expendables is a better movie, rotten tomatoes has scott pilgrim at 80% and expendables at 44%

I'm with you about the Expendables but I hope Scott would have at least beaten Eat Pray Love. I believe it's even WORSE than the Expendables…....checking RT.........why yes yes it is.

I'm just gonna ahead and throw my two cents in on what I thought about the movie.
It was…alright
Visually, it was awesome and most of the dialogue wasn't so bad either, I actually l'dol a couple times. Then again, most of the dialogue the was awesome was from the original comic. In my opinion, you could really tell what was written by O'Malley and what wasn't.Really, my main problem was the actors.
In some ways, Michael Cera did a really good job as Scott, but honestly, he made the character too, uh, Michael Cera-y.
I don't know the actress who played Ramona, but I think she didn't portray the character very well. She lacked everything that made Ramona likable in the comic, and overall just seemed like a bitch. Also, I like the ending in the comic more, even if the two were pretty similar.

I agree with you to a point about the actors, scott was definitely more awesome in the comics but alot of it came from facial expressions and animation that no actor could pull off except maybe Jim carry if you digitally made him younger. I think micheal cera did just as good a job as anyone and he was a good choice as the character of Scott himself is cry micheal ceraish. You were spot on about Romona though. Granted try cut alot f the scenes that made her likable but the actress definitely could have done better with what she had. I think the only scene where she really seemed anything other than annoying was when she stepped in to fight in Scotts place and even that wasn't handled great.
-
Greatest movie ever. I demand it win an Oscar for best movie.
Also, I will see this again.
-
@Yonkou#3:

I'm not even sure how to comment at this point. I'm just going to say that this is a gross overestimation of "how unique Scott is" and underestimation of how many flexible actors there are in Hollywood.
Also, it's more about how Scott carried himself over facial expressions. If it was just facial expressions, they'd have chosen some other actor.
-
Just came back from seeing it.
Totally fucking awesome.
Going to find the comics now.
-
I think I may have seen the word "Mugiwara" when Knives was on the floor after Todd punched her.
Did anyone else notice or was I just seeing things?
-
@Yonkou#3:

This really shouldn't be a suprise. Michael Cera can't carry a movie. Plus it's not playing in many theaters. Out of the five near me, only one was playing it and at limited times.
I was sort of forced to go see it friday. It wasn't bad but I thought it was alittle overrated. Fight scenes were cool. And again cera plays the same character he plays in every movie/tv show/webisode.
-
So I want to see it but the town I live in doesnt like to play new movies, theres three movies and none of them are new. Hell I'd settle for seeing The Expendables but thats not playing either.
-
I went to see the movie again today with a friend. I loved it even more than the first time I saw it. Easily the movie of the year for me. It's not even a contest. This will be an insta-buy Bluray purchase. I would order it now if I could. I'll probably end up seeing this movie again before it leaves theaters.
I never want to know what it feels like not to experience joy while watching this. For the first time in my nearly 29 years of existence I feel like a movie was actually made for me. I couldn't be happier.
-
Hmmm. If we're talking about how it stacks up to the other movies of the year, I'd say that it's in my top 10 so far, but only barely. Inception is still my number 1.
-
Loved the movie. Especially the video game refrences like the zelda music
things i didn't like though:! The total lack of kim doing anything. she has such a minor role compared to comics.
Knives fighting gideon instead of ramona. (it's not bad it just annoyed me)
the twins fight. Everything about them is to different.
Todd and envy losing most of their scenes (he was my fav in the books)wallace is definatley the best character in the film though. so funny.
-

I don't really think Scott is all the Cera-esque.
I mean, everything Cera said came off as kinda dickish, cynical or sarcastic, whereas pretty much everything Scott says makes him look like a dumbass. Also, to the guy above me who said Todd was his favorite, good job, bro.
-
-NO DOUBLE DRAGON FIGHT. >:(
..what?
! did you miss the part during the fight where a DOUBLE DRAGON appeared and attacked sex bob-omb?
-
@Ao:

No the same thing. I wanted my hurricane kick.
-
I saw the movie not actually having read the series and I loved it. I think Michael Cera was the wrong choice for lead, though, since he just lacks energy. Also, I wanted the double dragon guys to do more, especially musically. I was ready for them to break out some
, but they got overshadowed too easily. -

! build robots, AND FIGHT like Billy and Jimmy Lee
! They're awesome. And strangely… the only fight that didn't get fleshed out.... -
Now that sounds awesome. I would have gladly scrapped the romantic shit for that.
-

Scott was a dick when you think about it. He did a lot of things out of his own interest with no respect for others around him:
! He lived off of Wallace without working, toyed with a 17 year old girl's heart, left kim without telling her, beat up Simon Lee for hugging Kim, and broke Stephen Stills and his brother's guitars. He doesn't know a thing about the people who care about him, like what Wallace does, Ramona's birthday, or that Stephen came out the closet.
! He punched his own brother in the face.
! He wasn't the greatest person, which is why I never really liked him in the first place, despite how funny it was to see just how long he could get away with it all.
! Cera made him seem less like an asshole in my opinion, but only because we had less time to see all the jacked up things he does.
! Cera probably had about 4 of the asshole acts throughout the whole movie:
! 1. Cheating
2. dumping Kim and Knives coldly and thinking nothing of it.
3. Asking Ramona "Who at the party she didn't sleep with?"
4. mooching off of wallace
! that's light compared to what I mentioned above. And number #4 is pushing it since Wallace wasn't bothered to much by it.One more thing about the movie :
! I also think one important thing they left out was the subspace highway, Ramona mentions it once, and they go through the door. But they never show that you can walk into ANYONE'S mind and affect memories.
! They left that out, but kept in that Scott couldn't remember anything, which I thought was a bad move. It was also a key factor in Ramona's mind control.
! They could've had Gideon take a few seconds to explain it all and connect everything. Which would've been great instead of having Scott "re-do" the level.
! Granted, this could've been because the script writer didn't know this stuff due to O'Malley not telling him. -
Just saw the movie today. I love how they incorporated video game effects in the movie. The Pee bar was amusing. Wallace was a great complimentary cast to Cera. If not for those those annoying obnoxious advertisement for COKE ZERO and PIZZA PIZZA I would say the movie is fantastic.
Yeah, Scott Pilgrim was an ASS and maybe NEGA Scott too. XD
-
Loved the movie. I'd give it a very generous 8.5/10. I'm obsessed with the clash at demonhead song. I just started reading the comics now and i'm loving them too. what a brill concept for a story. love it love it love it.
-
Too Bad the movie preformed horribly at the box office earning only about 10 million.
-
A pretty damn good review that calls out all the terrible ones.
