Greg, dear, can you do us another huge favour and translate the notes?~
I can only cleary see Vasco and Q. Everybody else is just "oh SHIT" O_O
There is a guy who looked really like Crocodile there.
WOW I am glad he did not go through with his plan to call Auger "Van Faggot"
snorts and dies forever
Oh my fucking god, seriously XD
al!na already ahead of you
stephen, hard for me to tell. Is that a 'U' or 'Fu' cause that makes a huge difference.
edit:
nm I'm asking you with the goddamn original book in my left hand. It's an 'fu'. Good call Oda.
I can also see someone NOT covering Oda's ass on "Lappe Jesus" and simply transliterating it to "Rape Jesus" which would go over just as well
Oh my god, Greg, thank you so much.
Oh my god XDDD
So basically the first 2 so-so completed people were Shot and Q.
Faggot X'D Rape Jesus… GOD DAMN, ODA!
Cat -> Fox -> Cresent Moon Hunter... Hmmmmmmm~ it's a werewolf!
al!na check the post in about 45 seconds, I'm uploading the swordswoman.
Can someone host the images? I'm looking at the number of readers and my dad is gonna kill me if I set off the bw again.
Oh wow. Thanks for all the work Greg.
Glad Oda went with Devon. Woman with cat ears/hime hair on BB's team? Brain does not compute.
I will rehost them right away~
And pfffffffffffffff XD No thank you, I like current Devon better.
So Shiryuu and Laffitte were non-existant at that point. Well looks at two man with no comments - shooves them away Yeah~
guys i just get some notes in back under cover images
[hide][/hide]
I Hope my notes are correct!
Edit : i forget to thanks everyone who works in scan or translate the green book :)
Most of them are spot on but the Fake Luffy was actually 'Robo Luffy' from a vapor-Time 'Robo Time'.
Thank you soooooooo much again Greg, I really-really appreciate.
now I can forgive you for not noticing my glorious debut in Usopp Gallery :ninja:

Now you're in the Gallery? What the fuck is this bullshit? I've been busting my balls for 8 years now and I haven't gotten jackshit. Goddamnit. Fuckin-A! I seriously wonder if I'm black-listed.
Who's next? LPS?
"Hey guyz! I got in with this awesome Captain Kuro avatar I used to use! lol!"
Thank you so much greg.
That lame guy in the golf cap should definitely join the Blackbeard Crew. He would stand out by how normal and lame he is in comparison to the rest of them.
Ulrilra will have a shitload of awesome scans. Serious, this place is going to EXPLODE when he gets it up. So you know what to look for in advance: pages 343-365 are the best.
There's also a hard to read picture of the fight pairings at TB similar to the Skypiea one from a CW. It's freakin' sick but it's too small to read everything.

That was my wish as well. I'm guessing that 'kind' of quirk was passed to Doc Q who looks like he can't do shit.
I seem to remember that picture of Cat-Nami from the back cover in the Strong World artbook sketches section on 'The Crystal Ship's Log'. Is it possible those animal crew member shots were intended designs for the crew being transformed in the original Movie 10? BTW, if that picture of Nami WASN'T from the SW artbook, (for example, if it was in a CW) then just ignore this.

And hmmmm?~ I don't quite get what you mean about Nami there.@Greg:

But he has the scythe! O:
Don't be sorry, that's incredible/awesome for you. You're a part of the OP legacy now.
If that Nami sketch was in the SW artbook, and we see other characters like Zoro, Usopp and Sanji in their animal forms, I think it means they were intended to be transformed in the original story.

Whether you know it or not, Greg, you're also a part of the OP legacy.
Hmmmmmmmmm~ I don't remember any cat sketches from SW artbook~ Oda did give them animal themes years ago though and they even made a game for WonderSwan console. Would they really want to go into the same story again?
Dude, this is incredibly awesome. I can't wait until Ulrilra gets all this up. Then EVERYONE will be omgwtf'ing just like you are, Greg :D
Hey, Greg, there isn't a height chart in there for the Blackbeards by any chance? It'd be interesting to see when Oda went from the relatively normal sized guy on that early cover spread to the 10-12 foot tall behemoths he's using these days.
Far as the original names go, well, switching to a themed naming system for the Blackbeard Pirates might well be the best decision Oda ever made.
Imagine the final battles otherwise:
Luffy vs Everything!
Usopp vs Van Fahgot!
Sanji vs Rape Jesus!
That lame guy in the golf cap should definitely join the Blackbeard Crew. He would stand out by how normal and lame he is in comparison to the rest of them.
Right up until he starts beating people to death with a sack of sweet, sweet Florida oranges. Sure, he looks all mild mannered and everything, but there's no way a guy that normal looking in a crew that weird isn't a tremendous psychopath.

That remind me, the story of Circe and Odysseus, a sorceress goddess that transforms in pigs the crew of Odysseus, whe they arrived to her island.
Maybe it's a inspiration for an island adventure in the new world
Whether you know it or not, Greg, you're also a part of the OP legacy.
Psh! Shyeah! Maybe the English-speaking world.
insert weeaboo
Hmmmmmmmmm~ I don't remember any cat sketches from SW artbook~
I remember a cat, the question is, whether it was that Nami-cat or not. I know I've seen it before for certain, but it MIGHT have been a CW.

No, I was hoping for one but not yet.
I guess you mean this sketch, Greg? Defenetly not the same thing.

Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation. Probably a CW.
^This is from Strong World artbook, I just took a picture.
Don't see anything else in this one or any other CWs about cats though.
I didn't see the sketch in any of the Color Walks, SW artbook or volume 0.
Well…
Fuck.
I know for certain I've seen that exact rough sketch of her though. I swear I'm not insane guys! Ya gotta trust me! Ya just gotta!
Greg did you happen to read anything on "the introduction of the main forces in the New World,? like it said in the previous spoiler?
Would it have been in any of the logs or previous databooks?
Blazing-
It was a typical recap of what we already know.
J-Sack-
I doubt it was a Log and I'm preeeeetty sure it wasn't a databook. I'm at a loss. I just know I've seen that precise image before.
I just checked the movie 10 program, nothing.
Not in the Mook either.
Maybe one of the magazines? (maybe I missed it when skimming stuff?)
No, I was hoping for one but not yet.
Too bad.
Still, some interesting material here though.
Several characters were combined by the looks of this. As you said, catwoman was split off into Pizarro and Devon while Shot was originally a combination of Wolf and the current Shot.
Meanwhile, King Joker lost his jester's hat to Shot, but kept his makeup and Joker-inspired grin to become Lafitte.
Name notwithstanding, Van Augur came through the process largely intact judging by that little sketch.
Going by the facepaint, at least some of these designs must have been made somewhere around or before Drum since that particular design apparently wound up being used for Pell instead while Q's final design is a lot more subdued.
Odd that he seemed to have originally intended for there to be two characters with one eye in the same handful of pirates though.
Right up until he starts beating people to death with a sack of sweet, sweet Florida oranges. Sure, he looks all mild mannered and everything, but there's no way a guy that normal looking in a crew that weird isn't a tremendous psychopath.
My thoughts exactly.
What do you mean by themed naming system? I actually like the name Everything D. Teach and Rape Jesus would have been hilarious.

Now all of them are named after real pirates and sailors.

Maybe the magazine you got on the rainy day, what was the called again, started with an S, I think…? Or the fashion magazine.

Barring San Juan Wolf (maybe), all of them are named after famous mariners or pirates.
Edward Teach, Jack Quelch, Samuel Burgess, John Augur, Gaspard, and Jean Lafitte were all real pirates; plus there's a couple of possibilities for Devon. Francisco Pizarro and Vasco de Gama (or Michael de Basco, either way) were explorers.
It's possible that Wolf is a particular reference that I haven't run across yet. The best I've come up with so far is that it's a reference to pirates being sea wolves, but that isn't very satisying.
A couple of them seem to be named after places as well; San Juan Wolf is the obvious one there. Devon is probably named after Devonport Australia and Teach is probably named after Marshalsea Prison while Pops was named after Newgate Prison.
@A!ina_James:
NO :I
With a name like King Joker and Lafitte's final design, you're trying to tell me that this wasn't a WIP image of him?
It was easier to connect Shiliew to a pirate when he was still Shiryuu, as there was a guy called Zheng Zhilong , and translated to Japanese is Tei Shiryuu.
-Edit: Oh, whoops. Ubiq covered that. Thought he was talking about the myth from Florida.
Greg, you are a legend. This stuff is just…overload.
Zach, I know you're reading. There better be, like, a 4 hour podcast episode with Greg on breaking this fucker down. I can only look at untranslated scans/the copy of the book so many times lol.

I still insist on Vasco Nunez. De Gamma explored India, while Nunez raided Peru together with Francisco Pizarro. If Devon is also partially named after Catalina de Euraso, then all of the new additions are named after "New World" Spanish Conquerors. Makes a nice pattern to me.
And duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh~
Even this has a resemblance to Laffitte, but defenetly not… THAT thing :o Vasco is Joker themed.
Sweet info. Can't wait for the sketches. Thanks alot Greg. =D
And I know that's one of Iva's main inspirations, but her first sketches are exact portraits of Tim Curry.

Vasco da Gama :P, just correcting you but yeah it makes sense if the other two are spanish pirates/explores/wtv I doubt it our(portuguese) Vasco that inspired Vasco Shot, I still love the dude though it my favourite BB pirate right now, berserking drunk penis nose dude for the win.
Sea wtv you wanted to google for us is not working, atleast for me its not showing anything.
Yeah, I fail at spelling when it's 7AM and I haven't had an hour of sleep U_U
But I still don't feel like sleeping~ Why would that be?

Vasco Nunez de Balboa didn't help Pizarro raid Peru though; sure, he was associated with Pizarro as the latter explored the ithmus of Panama with Balboa and later arrested him on the orders of Pedro Arias De Avila so that they could execute him, but that was well before Pizarro went to Peru.
Now, Blasco Nunez Vela was in Peru, but he was a Viceroy that was killed in a battle by Gonzalo Pizarro's troops.

That's pretty much Brandnew without the afro.
The King Joker name and makeup are pretty strong indications that the concept ultimately wound up being used to make Lafitte.
It looks nothing like Brandnew, what the hell ._.
We'll need a HQ scan for that.
Just wait till I get Oda to confirm Laffitte's prototype to be Yoko Kon in SBS.
He doesn't have any makeup apart from lipstick. Devon wears lipstick too.
Why our history books suck so much? It makes me look stupid, but I didn't made up all that info in my head, I read it in a book :/ What the hell~
Eef, I don't like arguing with you, you always end up being right.
