I agree that Perona's supporters' theories were stupid. However I'm not making a big fucking deal out of it.
Yes Perona has her flaws, but she's far from hateable like Bellamy and Spandam were. And she showed plenty of personality to me from what we have seen, but it's the same as any minor character. I don't see how she is any more shallow in character than any of the carpenters in Water7, or Hogback, or any other villain lackey. And I don't think Oda would have brought her back if he thought of her as a completely disposable character.

I totally agree with this. Well, I think it might be okay to call Perona stupid if Oda makes her do something stupid, but I don't think it's quite warranted so far.
What's putting me off here is how several of the anti-Perona people are bunkered into defensive positions and flinging knee-jerk reactions against anyone who might remotely like Perona as a character. Maybe the original Perona fans were so annoy that this was the only way to combat them, but this kind of vitriol cannot be good for these forums.

Well, whether necessary or not something has to happen. Nobles are one thing … pretty much something similar to the class conflict that's existed in real life.
But the tennryubito is something on a whole other level. You mention the whole discord with fishmen as being meaningful for a fishman joining, and a lot of this was the result of us seeing Arlong proclaim fishman superiority over humans based on his experiences.
With the tennryubito we also have the issue of a group of people claiming superiority over other based on mere genetics/existence. And this feeling from their part has played a strong role in affecting the strawhats, seeing how the whole Charlos incident involved Hatchan getting shot and Caimie almost getting killed or sold into slavery. Not to mention Luffy hearing Boa's story. I think a reminder is necessary that they're also people and there should be at least one of them who doesn't believe in the way things are.
Of course, Oda doesn't necessarily need to have such a nakama join, but I disagree that the Sabo story makes the tennryubito thing something not worth exploring.

That would basically mean that jimbei isn't improving? Maybe he is already at the highest strength level he could reach? Won't that also be a won't join criteria?
I mean there can be a lot of reasons why he couldn't become stronger during the 2 years time skip… The household... bringing the kids to school... Taking slasa courses....
But if that's just because he seems like every shichibukai strong but no hint about strength development/no development at all because he is at his top...

I understand your point, but I can't really get behind it. If someone like Brook can still improve, then Jinbei should be able to as well. All the crew members were put in an ideal situation to improve over the course of two years. Jinbei, on the other hand, just went back to the same thing he's been doing for a long time, most likely, minus a warlord title. The potential in comparative growth over the two year span should naturally be lower for him, I'd think.
If he were to join, I'd expect that he'd grow from necessity in the future. I'd expect things like an underwater battle against a merman, in which he actually has to overcome a disadvantage by fighting in the water. Simply put, new and unique situations would spur his development.
I'd hope for some decent growth over the two years if he doesn't join, though.
